When we last spoke with Canadian director Gariel Carrer (The Demolisher), he was about to unleash some violent Ventablvck conceptual footage at the Frontieres Market at the Fantasia Film Festival. That footage made its way online today and I'm not surprised to see it's as stylistically aggressive as the subject matter. The neon glow paired with underground fighting rings can't help but remind us of Only God Forgives, but I think Carrer's film will be another thing entirely. The cinematography by Scott McIntyre is firing on all cylinders. Synopsis: On the outskirts of a city, violence explodes in an underground fight club where opponents are blind folded. Liam, a lonely and mysterious young man who suppresses violent tendencies, keeps active by working as a pizza delivery driver for...

If you thought last year's revenge thriller The Demolisher packed an emotional gut punch, Gabriel Carrer has a message for you: You ain't seen nothing yet. Speaking to me about his next film, the intriguingly titled Ventablvck, the director was very clear he was planning to go to even further to explore how dark the human soul can get. "This film will be a violent attack on the people who didn’t like The Demolisher," said Carrer when I asked what to expect from the film. "This film is about a man and a woman who choose not to be a part of society. It’s about a man and a woman who thrive in the darkness, who hold themselves back from fighting others, or stand by their actions. It is a fight movie...

Any one person can be afflicted by a fit of rage. No one is entirely exempt from giving in to one’s emotions, shooing reason to the wayside and letting loose with a spew of vitriol, or worse. Some of pop culture’s most iconic characters are known and beloved precisely for their willingness to let fury get the better of them, most notably the Incredible Hulk and Wolverine. There is a dark side to humanity that can live vicariously through these dangerous beings when they enter apoplectic rage. However, the truth about rage is that it is extremely dangerous if left uncontrolled, leaving both recipient and perpetrators as victims. This is the starting point of writer-director Gabriel Carrer’s semi-revenge story The Demolisher, which premiered at the 2015 Fantasia Film Festival.

The world, as vast as it is, can be a claustrophobic place when you spend all your time in your own head, with only one driving force keeping you going. As much as the trailer for The Demolisher - let alone the title of the film – would lead you to believe that it’s a throwback to the glory days of 70's/80's exploitation and violent revenge flicks like Death Wish, it’s really more of a dark and depressing character study of one man’s downward spiral into madness due to his unquenchable thirst for revenge.

We've already been impressed by the first trailer for Canadian writer/director Gabriel Carrer's revenge thriller The Demolisher which is making its debut at Fantasia Film Festival. The first trailer set-up the story of man on the brink of a mental break and the project caught our attention in part for story and in part for its visuals.
The newly released spot is a bit more abstract but focuses even more on the cinematography from Martin Buzora, providing a moody clip which propels this well into must-see territory.
Synopsis:

In The Drownsman, now out on Blu-ray from Anchor Bay, Ry Barrett superbly plays the titular antagonist, and we caught up with the actor to discuss the 1980s horror movie villains that influenced his performance, his thoughts on reprising the role, and more.
Thanks for taking the time to chat about The Drownsman. I thought it was a fun and frightening film with a 1980s-esque vibe.
Ry Barrett: It is definitely a throwback to those kinds of movies. That is exactly what drew me to it. I’m staring at a stack of my DVDs right now and they’re full of A Nightmare on Elm Street, Candyman—all those sorts of characters I grew up with and always loved to get freaked out by. The second I heard of the opportunity to play a character like that, I was all over it.
Did any horror movie villains influence your portrayal of Sebastian Donner,...

Canadian writer/director Gabriel Carrer makes his feature debut with The Demolisher, a revenge thriller with a psychological bent. The film is playing at Fantasia fest this year
The first trailer shows off the film's wonderful cinematography and its intensity. The final shot of the trailer certainly makes you wonder what's about to come next. This is definitely a man on a mission.

We’ve been tracking filmmaker Gabriel Carrer’s revenge thriller The Demolisher since last spring, so we’re stoked the first teaser and poster is finally here! Apart from sporting a mean moniker, Gabriel Carrer’s vigilante film The Demolisher looks impacting and synthy; a hard edged throwback of citywide violence. The Demolisher is the fourth feature from Carrer, the Canadian indie filmmaker behind If A Tree Falls, Kill and the Henry Rollins-starring In The House of Flies. In the film, “Bruce (Ryan Barrett) is an ordinary repairman tormented…

Tristan Risk, who wowed audiences in the role of Beatress in American Mary last year, will be bringing her fabulous talents to the set of director Ryan M. Andrews' newest project, Save Yourself, which begins filming soon.
Little Miss Risk can also be seen in the new short film Call Girl, the upcoming Fetish Factory and Fembot, as well as many other entertainingly twisted underground projects, leading to what is sure to be a huge and exciting year for her. Currently, she joins Jessica Cameron amongst a fully Canadian cast in Andrews' Save Yourself.

Latefox Pictures has completed shooting on the revenge yarn The Demolisher. And recently, several stills have been released for the film. The photos show the central character, Bruce, armoured and roaming city streets. This title was developed by Canadian director Gabriel Carrer (If a Tree Falls). As well, the film stars Ry Barrett as Bruce. Tianna Nori, Ashley Awde and Jessica Vano also star. Four stills for The Demolisher are hosted here. In the story, Bruce feels helpless after his wife is brutally attacked. He experiences paranoia and as his mental state deteriorates, he turns to violence. This film fan is reminded of Uwe Boll's Rampage (2009), by the stills. Both films deal with uber-violent vigilantes who attack others randomly. Though, motivations (revenge, political) are different between Rampage and Carrer's The Demolisher. More details and stills are hosted below, with a trailer sure to come this way shortly. Actor Ry Barrett as Bruce in armour.

We first told you about the "hyper-violent" new film from Latefox Pictures entitled The Demolisher back in February, and today we have over a dozen images and even a sample of the film's soundtrack for ya! Dig it!
Check out the goods below via Bloody Disgusting and Fangoria.
The Demolisher is both a character study and a psychological examination of trauma, resulting in an unapologetic portrayal of what can happen when a fragile mind is pushed too far.
“The film is complex and character-driven, dealing with an outpouring of raw emotion,” said director Gabriel Carrer, also one of the film’s producers. “It delicately juggles our sympathetic nature and reactions to chance encounters with the dangerous and addicted intoxication of violence. The film’s narrative pertains to the film industry, or any industry for that matter, and the level of abuse that can be endured,” he concludes.
