In Kurt Sutter’s series focused on the lives of outlaw motorcycle club members, which ran for seven seasons between 2008 and 2014, Coates plays one of the lead characters, Tig Trager, who serves as the sergeant-at-arms and is often involved in the club’s most challenging and controversial activities.
Most recently recurring on Max’s White House Plumbers, Coates has also been seen on series including Netflix’s Godless and Bad Blood, CBS’s CSI: Miami, and Fox’s Prison Break, to name a few.

Canada’s Jay Baruchel became known as part of the group of young comedians linked to Judd Apatow. In the romantic comedy Knocked Up, for example, he portrayed one of the friends of the protagonist played by Seth Rogen. He later had a similar role in the apocalyptic comedy This Is the End, where this group of actors took self-reference and self-parody to another level. Like Rogen and Jonah Hill, Baruchel became a director: he debuted with Goon: Last of the Enforcers, sequel to Goon, which was co-written by Baruchel. This pair of films – in which Baruchel plays the friend of the main character (Seann William Scott) – combine sport (ice hockey) with comedy, romance and violence, the latter because they are focused on an...

Don’t let the image above fool you. Jay Baruchel‘s(!) Random Acts of Violence is not a fun road trip horror-comedy. It is a brutal and merciless slasher that marks the director’s second directorial effort (his first being 2017’s Goon: Last of the Enforcers). It wants to have a conversation about the effects of media violence on the […]...

Most of you know Jay Baruchel from his comedy work. Sure, he’s a very talented comedic actor, but his talents run far deeper than that. Behind the camera, he co-wrote the sports dramedy Goon, as well as co-writing and also directing its sequel Goon: Last of the Enforcers. Now, nearly a decade after he first set out to make it, his sophomore feature Random Acts of Violence is hitting screens. A gory and powerful horror movie (our review can be found right here), it’s a whole new side of Baruchel. Recently, I got on the phone with him to discuss not just directing, but also his pure love for the horror genre as well. You’ll be able to hear my chat with Baruchel below, and it’s a very fun one, even given the heavy nature of his film. We laugh a lot and talk about why...

Plot: A graphic novel creator (Jesse Williams) whose work is based on a real-life serial killer faces his worst fears when the subject of his books starts killing again. One of the guys I've always enjoyed talking to the most during my time with JoBlo.com is definitely Jay Baruchel, who, in recent years, has turned into one heck of a great director with Goon: Last Of The Enforcers and his new horror flick, Random Acts Of Violence. A hardcore film-buff, here Jay discusses what influenced him on this ultra-dark thriller, including his love of Michael Mann, graphic novels, and the intensity of his star, the great Jesse Williams. And, of course, knowing what…...

"I can't wait to show you..." Shudder has released an official red band trailer for the indie horror thriller titled Random Acts of Violence, the second feature film directed by Canadian actor-turned-filmmaker Jay Baruchel (his debut was the hockey sequel Goon: Last of the Enforcers from a few years ago). This first premiered at Fantastic Fest in Austin last year, and it will be available on Shudder later this summer to watch. This brutal horror is about a comic book creator who starts to notice that a real killer is using his "Slasherman" comic as inspiration for actual murder. Starring Jesse Williams, Jordana Brewster, Jay Baruchel, Niamh Wilson, Simon Northwood, Victoria Snow, Eric Osborne, and Nia Roam. This trailer has some crazy gore at the end, it looks like a slasher film wrapped around a story about pop culture and how you can't control it once it's out in public.

Jay Baruchel has played a role for every consumer age bracket: The Canadian actor’s lengthy resume includes everything, from voicing an awkward teen in Dreamworks’ hit animated franchise “How to Train Your Dragon” to playing a 20-something looking for love with surreal consequences in “Man Seeking Woman” to, well, himself in “This Is the End” in 2013, alongside longtime friend and sometimes-collaborator Seth Rogen.
For his latest film, “Random Acts of Violence,” premiering at Fantastic Fest on Sept. 19, he took up not only acting but also screenwriting and directorial duties, his second turn at the helm — In 2017, Baruchel directed “Goon: Last of the Enforcers,” the sequel to hockey comedy “Goon,” both of which he co-wrote and acted in.

Exclusive: Momentum Pictures has acquired North American rights to Bloodline, the Blumhouse horror thriller that stars Seann William Scott. The pic, directed by Henry Jacobson, who co-wrote the screenplay with Avra Fox-Lerner and Will Honley, will now hit theaters day-and-date with digital on September 20.
Scott plays Evan, who values family above all else — anyone who gets between him, his wife, and newborn son learns that the hard way. But when it comes to violent tendencies, it seems the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Mariela Garriga, Dale Dickey and Kevin Carroll also star.
“I am so proud to be a part of this film with such an exceptional cast and crew,” said Scott, who most recently co-starred on the CBS drama series Lethal Weapon and the hockey comedy Goon: Last of the Enforcers. “Bloodline is such a departure from my previous roles. It was so great to work...

Doug Glatt (Seann William Scott) is the ice hockey enforcer for Halifax Highlanders, known as Doug ‘The Thug’ Glatt, who seems unbeatable in a fight on the ice. Back in 2011, Michael Dowse’s Canadian sports comedy Goon was a minor hit with critics, but only ended up taking a modest $12m at the U.S. box office. Evidently, however, the film has since picked up something of a cult following, which explains the presence of this somewhat belated but nonetheless entertaining sequel that reunites the majority of the key players.
The directorial debut of actor Jay Baruchel (who co-wrote and co-starred in the first film), the sequel finds sweet-natured but dim-witted ice hockey bruiser Doug “The Thug” Glatt (Seann William Scott) still playing for his beloved Halifax Highlanders and now married to former girlfriend Eva (Alison Pill), who has just announced that she’s expecting.

“I’m not as tough as I used to be.”
Goon: Last of the Enforcers, the sequel to 2011s Goon, is a film about the world changing. The new owner of the Halifax Highlanders has expectations of the team and he’ll bring new players in to achieve them. The new kids coming into the league are something else; all-rounders, and some of them can really fight. Bruiser Doug Glatt’s home life is pulling him away from the game, and his body can hardly keep up with it anymore. So what exactly is a displaced hockey goon supposed to do?

Seann William Scott plays a character in “Goon: Last of the Enforcers,” who is similar to Stifler, the role he made famous in the “American Pie” franchise. But the actor, now 40, embraces the fact that he plays the stereotypical Idiot often, and says he doesn’t care about being typecast. “I did four of those movies, so I clearly embraced it,” Scott told TheWrap’s Stuart Brazell of his “American Pie” appearances. “I love that character so much and I don’t really know if I set out to play those kinds of guys. Bowing at the 2011 Toronto International Film Fest, Goon was a surprisingly enjoyable sports pic, an underdog hockey tale whose shockingly violent hero (played by Seann William Scott) bore no ill will to the opponents whose noses he shattered on the ice. The film went on to modest success; now, rather than spin off a VOD sequel exploiting the title but recast with no-name actors, producers have reunited all key players for Goon: Last of the Enforcers, in which our man must become a grown-up. Great sequels tend to enrich or build upon the appeal of their predecessors. Lousy sequels misplace that appeal or obscure it by making everything way bigger. The best part of hockey comedy Goon is its ability to never forget itself. Jay Baruchel and Evan Goldberg didn’t write it (based on Adam Frattasio and Douglas Smith’s non-fiction book) like your usual sports film where winning or losing was the goal. They instead brought to life a soft-spoken, compassionate guy whose only talent isn’t laying guys out on the ice like his bloodthirsty fans believe. No, Doug Glatt’s (Seann William Scott) calling is as protector for his family, friends, and teammates. He joined the Halifax Highlanders to provide a spark as well as a formidable presence that would lend his more talented linemates peace of mind and confidence. Victory was never about securing a championship, it was reminding his team what hockey meant beyond the scoreboard.

Seann William Scott returns in Goon: Last of the Enforcers the cartilage crunching sequel to the 2011 hockey comedy Goon, a follow-up that’s even “faster, funnier and more foul-mouthed than the original.”
Back as hockey star Doug Glatt, Scott is supported here with cast that includes Liev Schreiber (Spotlight) and Alison Pill (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), reprising their roles from the first film, Elisha Cuthbert (24) and Callum Keith Rennie (Californication), with 22 Jump Street’s Wyatt Russell as Glatt’s nemesis, and Deadpool’s T. J. Miller on scene-stealing form as inappropriate sports commentator Chad Bailey.
From the press release:
An assured feature directing debut from comedy star Jay Baruchel (This Is The End, Knocked Up, How To Train Your Dragon), this is a film you can’t help but love – crass but charming, packed with eccentric and loveable characters, and just the right balance of sports carnage and comedy...

Movie fans may argue that cult classic Goon is the greatest hockey film ever, while others may deem Paul Newman's Slap Shot as holding that title. The great news for Goon fans is Seann William Scott is back as Doug "The Thug" Glatt in Goon: Last of the Enforcers, a movie that [...]...

Goon: Last Of The Enforcers Trailer The second movie trailer for Goon: Last of the Enforcers (2017) from No Trace Camping and Caramel Film. As far as movie trailers go, this one is pretty unremarkable. For the most part, it makes the movie look like just another comedy churned out by Hollywood, with lots of slapstick [...]

"Witness the ultimate comeback." Momentum Pictures / eOne has debuted one final official Us trailer for the hockey comedy sequel Goon: Last of the Enforcers, which is now scheduled for a release in the Us starting in September (it already opened in Canada in March). Seann William Scott returns as Doug Glatt from Goon, the hockey player who just loves to fight, picking up where the story left off. He plans to retire from hockey (and fighting) but ends up back on the ice again, being trained for left-handed fighting by none other than Ross Rhea himself - Liev Schreiber. The full cast includes Elisha Cuthbert, Liev Schreiber, Alison Pill, T.J. Miller, Wyatt Russell, Marc-André Grondin, Jason Jones, Kim Coates. We have already seen plenty of trailers for this, but I'm still looking forward to seeing it sometime this year. Dive in. Here's the final Us trailer (+ poster) for Jay Baruchel...

Comedy sequels are already a rare breed of movie, but sports comedy sequels are seen even less. But that didn’t stop actor Jay Baruchel from getting his passion project off the ground: a sequel to the hockey comedy Goon that he wrote back in 2011. Take Me Home Tonight director Michael Dowse was at the […]

The 2011 Canadian hockey comedy “Goon” did pretty well up north, which isn’t a surprise given that, for more than half the year, hockey is king. What is surprising is that south of the border, the slight, and frankly not very good movie earned a cult following. Granted, it’s a very small cult, but, nonetheless, it’s enough that the sequel, “Goon: Last Of The Enforcers,” is making its way to cinemas stateside after playing in Canada.

Jay Baruchel chats to us about comics, X-Men movies, Goon 2 and Jason Statham...
Jay Baruchel is a very happy man indeed. Over the last decade, I’ve been fortunate enough to interview a lot of people for Den of Geek, but Mr Baruchel might just be the most enthusiastic one to date – almost every sentence ended with the kind of joyous laugh that would come from having, quite possibly, the best job ever, twice. Known to most as an actor with a gift for the comedic, having starred in the likes of Tropic Thunder, Knocked Up, Goon, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and The Art Of The Steal (to name a few personal favourites) as well as voicing accidental hero Hiccup in the fantastic How To Train Your Dragon movies, it was about his recent involvement with Canadian comic book publisher, Chapterhouse, that we had a chat with him about.

Overlord, a World War II drama tinged with supernatural elements, has drafted in Wyatt Russell (Black Mirror) and Fences breakout Jovan Adepo to headline.
Word comes by way of Deadline, confirming that Overlord is in the works over at Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot – cue the Cloverfield speculation – with Julius Avery attached at the helm. It’s drafted in some serious writing talent, too, what with Billy Ray (Captain Phillips) and Mark Smith (The Revenant) on board to hash out a script. Production is due to commence in the UK this May, indicating that both Paramount and Bad Robot are poised to place Overlord on the fast-track ahead of a theatrical release sometime in 2018.
What’s the story? Well, according to Deadline, Avery’s revisionist take on World War II opens on the eve of D-day, when a troupe of “American paratroopers are dropped behind enemy lines to carry out...

Won’t Give Up the Fight: Interview with the star of Goon: Last of the Enforcers, Liev Schreiber Won’t Give Up the Fight: Interview with the star of Goon: Last of the Enforcers, Liev Schreiber Michael Kennedy3/15/2017 10:02:00 Am
A few years ago, an eclectic team of American and Canadian filmmakers teamed up for Goon. The Canadian comedy told the story of Doug Glatt (Seann William Scott), a bouncer turned minor league hockey enforcer, and the bruised and bloodied ice warriors that fought with and against him.
Canadian hockey fan Jay Baruchel co-wrote the script and played Doug’s friend Pat, while other Canucks like Alison Pill, Eugene Levy and Marc-André Grondin rounded out the cast. Former NHL tough guy Georges Laraque even had a cameo. But one of the most unexpected cast members may have been American Liev Schreiber (Spotlight, TV’s Ray Donovan) as enforcer Ross “The Boss” Rhea.

"You do what you need to do with the time you've got." Who doesn't love hockey fights? eOne has released another new trailer for the hockey comedy sequel Goon: Last of the Enforcers, this time a red band trailer full of blood and violence and foul language galore. Seann William Scott returns as Doug Glatt, the hockey player who just loves to fight, picking up where the story left off in Goon. He plans to retire from hockey (and fighting) but ends up back on the ice again, being trained for left-handed fighting by none other than Ross Rhea himself - Liev Schreiber. Strap those hockey pads back on because the final Canadian trailer has landed for Goon: Last of the Enforcers, the follow-up to, you guessed it, Goon. After the hardest hitter in the game, Doug Glatt (Sean William Scott) is told by a doctor he should never play hockey again, he enters the real world of — *shudders* — the 9-to-5. However, when Doug stumbles upon an old rival (Liev Shcreiber), he begins training to reclaim his team and his glory. Be careful, though, this trailer contains swear words, so slap some ear muffs over the kids before you put this one on ice.
This time, Jay Baruchel (a side character in the first), takes a bigger role as co-writer, director, and actor. The rest of the cast is rounded off by Elisha Cuthbert, Alison Pill, T.J. Miller, Kim Coates, and Wyatt Russell. While we’re still waiting a U.S. release date for this one,...
