Margot Robbie’s long-rumoured Sims movie has now reportedly got the green light from Amazon MGM.
The Sims is a game that most millennials grew up playing. We were immersed and invested in the intricate lives of the characters on our old, boxy PCs in the early-2000s and occasionally, accidentally set things on fire.
We reported in March that a film based on The Sims was in the works, with Loki-director Kate Herron helming it and Margot Robbie producing through her LuckyChap banner. Now, Puck News (via Dark Horizons) is reporting that the film has found a home with Amazon MGM.
Screen Rant mentions that Netflix’s bid for the film’s rights was higher, but Amazon MGM ultimately won by promising the film a theatrical release.

As you’ve probably noticed yourselves, the audiences have been very kind to live-action and animated adaptations of video games and similar brands in recent years, as the studios have seemingly cracked the formula for making a good video game-based movie. Disney had a hit with Wreck-It-Ralph, the Lego franchise is now a classic, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a major hit, with last year’s Barbie (based on a major toy brand) being a global phenomenon. Knowing that fact, the video game adaptation market is growing, and we can confirm that the teased live-action movie based on The Sims franchise is moving forward.
It has been confirmed that Amazon MGM Studios have acquired the rights to the film and will actually provide part of the budget, so the movie has managed to land a major studio behind it, and some big names are attached to the project as well,...

As the Fireflies' famous catchphrase goes: "When you're lost in the darkness, look for the light." And as our not-so-famous catchphrase goes: "When you're waiting patiently for The Last Of Us Season 2, look for the first images of Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey's return as Joel and Ellie." Good news – that light has arrived, people. During an Upfront presentation yesterday, Warner Bros. Discovery gave fans their first look at Season 2 of Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin's critically acclaimed game adaptation — and we're already feeling all the feels. You can see the Joel pic above – and here's the Ellie shot:
Now, these pictures don't tell us an awful lot about what's coming in Season 2, but that doesn't make them any less fascinating to look at. Joel's grown-out locks. Ellie's winter hat. His new jacket. Her new shotgun (who — or what — is it aimed at?). Both of them look a bit older now,...

Olivia Wilde will direct and Margot Robbie will star in an adaptation of comic book Avengelyne, it’s been announced.
Comic book writer Rob Liefeld’s biggest success is undoubtably Deadpool, which Ryan Reynolds and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick brought to the screen to huge critical and commercial success – Deadpool And Wolverine, which sees Hugh Jackman reprise his iconic role, will be released in UK cinemas on the 26th July. You can watch the trailer here.
Warner Bros is now very close to closing a deal on another of Liefeld’s comics, Avengelyne. Furthermore, Margot Robbie – as you probably gleaned from the cunning headline to this piece – is circling the lead role.
The synopsis reads as follows:
Avengelyne is an angel who fights the forces of evil and often finds herself face-to-face with demons and monsters. She was the most feared warrior in heaven’s Warhost, having single-handedly broken into Pandemonium,...

Warner Bros. in Talks to Land ‘Avengelyne’ With Margot Robbie Eyeing to Star, Tony McNamara to Write
The feature adaptation of “Avengelyne” from Olivia Wilde, Margot Robbie and “X-Men” producer Simon Kinberg is being set up at Warner Bros. The studio is close to finalizing a seven-figure film rights deal.
Robbie is eyeing the role of the titular angel who fights the forces of evil and often finds herself face-to-face with demons and monsters. “Deadpool” co-creator Rob Liefeld first brought the comic book character to life in 1995. “Poor Things” scribe Tony McNamara will pen the screenplay.
“This incredibly humbling journey to bring Avengelyne to life onscreen started through my relationship with super-producer Simon Kinberg who told me he had a perfect fit for the material and asked me to trust him,” Liefeld told Variety in an exclusive statement. “Next thing I’m meeting with Margot Robbie and Olivia Wilde and the connection was electric! Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was a strange time for the franchise. The post-"Avengers: Endgame" era saw Kevin Feige and co. trying to shepherd the concept of the multiverse into our collective consciousness while simultaneously introducing a host of new heroes and somewhat reinventing the MCU for a new generation. Much of it worked well, with "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" holding things down on the cinematic front. Meanwhile, "WandaVision" and "Hawkeye" made a good case for the McU's streaming age being a good development — a case that was later ruined by the poorly-reviewed "Secret Invasion."
But for every good entry in Phase 4, there was a "Thor: Love and Thunder" or a "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law" to undermine them. Thankfully, Phase 4 will always remain beloved for introducing us to one of the best arguments for the MCU expanding into the world of streaming television: "Loki.

Could a little of Barbie's girl power help Lionsgate finally crack the Monopoly movie adaptation out of the development limbo it's been stuck in for seemingly eons? The studio is certainly hoping so, hatching a deal with Margot Robbie and her LuckyChap team to produce the film.
Monopoly might not sound like the sort of game naturally that lends itself to a movie — you know, since it doesn't really have a narrative beyond trying to be incredibly careful with your cash and being the best a capitalism to defeat your opponents, but then Greta Gerwig spun gold out of Barbie for Warners.
Lionsgate didn't confirm who, if anyone is attached to actually make the film, but this is one that has been floating around for years, with Ridley Scott most famously looking to put together a take for 20th Century Fox in the years before it was swallowed by Disney.

If you thought Ruby Sunday's (Millie Gibson) declaration that one of the situations she and The Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) find themselves in for Doctor Who's new season is "so Bridgerton" was the only reference to the Netflix period romp, you would be mistaken. No one’s ever really gone when it comes to a timey wimey show like Doctor Who, including past showrunner Steven Moffat, who is back penning a new episode of series 14. We still know very little about his new story except that it’ll be the third episode of the series, will feature Hitchcock-style suspense, and is the second episode directed by Julie Anne Robinson after the series 14 premiere.
And now add a new detail: the episode’s title, which is simply “Boom.” Sounds explosive, indeed.

“Basically, he runs out the Tardis and says, ‘There’s something terribly wrong here,’ and sorts it out for a while, right? Then blows everything up at the last minute.”
As descriptions of Doctor Who stories go, it’s pretty solid – as well it might be, from the mouth of former showrunner and returning writer Steven Moffat. Speaking at a recent ‘In Conversation With’ event held by the University of Glasgow Screenwriting Society, as reported by RadioTimes.com, Moffat dismissed the idea that societal changes made writing for Doctor Who now a different job than it ever was.
“We are talking about a show that started in 1963 and hasn’t changed that much,” Moffat told attendees when asked about changes in representation in TV in Britain in recent years. “I think you’re slightly foolish to think it’s your job to reflect society,” he continued. “I don’t think it really is.

Margot Robbie is going from the plastic world of Barbie to the digital world of The Sims. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress’ production company, LuckyChap, has signed on to produce a movie adaptation of the long-running computer game.
The project is still in its earliest stages, but it does have a director: Kate Herron, who helmed the Disney+ series Loki and was tapped to direct some episodes of Season Two of The Last of Us. Herron will co-write the script with Briony Redman, with whom she just co-wrote an episode of Doctor Who.

Could Margot Robbie be bringing the same kind of meta introspection and examination to The Sims in the way she did with Barbie? That is a possibility of what’s to come as her production company, LuckyChap, has taken on the life simulation game for an upcoming feature film. The Sims is an immensely popular game from Maxis, the company that first let gamers play God with the legendary simulator SimCity. While the brand followed up with other similar-natured games like SimFarm, Sim Hospital and SimAnt, it was in 2000 that they gave players the chance to live life in The Sims.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kate Herron, who is known for her work on the first season of the successful Marvel Studios series on Disney+, Loki, is set to take the helm on the feature. Herron is also attached to co-write the film with Briony Redman. Robbie’s LuckyChap also includes Tom Ackerly,...

Recent years have been very kind to live-action and animated adaptations of video games and similar brands. Disney had a hit with Wreck-It-Ralph, the Lego franchise is now a classic, Spielberg’s Ready Player One was a major hit, as was The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and last year’s Barbie (based on a major toy brand) was a major hit. Considering that, we’re not surprised that studios want to capitalize on this phenomenon and are steadily approaching new ideas and adaptations.
As the Insider reports, there is a new similar project coming up, as a live-action adaptation of The Sims video game franchise is in the works. Also, we found out that Margot Robbie is attached to produce the movie, teaming up with Kate Herron, who is attached to direct the film. This reminds us of the Robbie-Gerwing team-up that brought us Barbie last year, so it is definitely an exciting prospect,...

Following Barbie's huge box office success and cultural footprint, Margot Robbie – who, let's not forget, shepherded the film to screens for years as well as starring — has, thanks to that and a variety of other movies, become a powerhouse producer of tricky projects Along with her LuckyChap partners, she's now attached to help bring a film based on The Sims video games to life, with Loki's first season whizz Kate Herron aboard to co-write and direct.

The long-running simulation series The Sims is currently making headlines for getting a feature film adaptation. Initially reported by Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider newsletter, the details surrounding the live-action were later corroborated by THR. With the video game franchise getting reimagined, Margot Robbie is said to be helming the production of the film.
Margot Robbie in and as Barbie
Notably, there have been multiple attempts to get a Sims film produced in the past. But unfortunately, it never succeeded. However, with recent reports surrounding The Sims adaptation, it seems there’s still more life left in the tank. Therefore, set to be directed by Loki helmer Kate Herron, the movie is expected to be a grand success considering Margot Robbie’s attempts at Barbie.

The long-running and hugely popular life simulator video game series The Sims is getting the movie treatment and there’s some exciting talent behind the project.
The Sims is set to be adapted into a movie, exploring the lives of its simulated suburban occupants in feature-length, cinematic glory.
Just in case you’ve never come across the popular series of video games published by Electronic Arts, The Sims series of games fall into the life simulator genre, allowing you to create and then oversee the lives of countless suburban residents. “No job. No boss. Just fun.” That was the offer the Fifteenth Doctor made to Ruby Sunday in the Doctor Who series 14 trailer. ‘And’, he should probably have added, ‘quite a lot of mortal peril,’ – but when has the Doctor ever been upfront with companions about the not-insignificant dangers of travelling in time and space? He probably doesn’t even fill in a risk assessment.
We else do we know about series 14? The first episode will arrive on BBC One, iPlayer and Disney+ on a Saturday in May 2024, and there will be eight episodes in total followed by a Christmas Day special. We also know that the currently-filming series 15 will follow in 2025 with a rumoured new companion.
Aside from that, verified info about the new series is summarised below (catch up on the valiant work of the @set_dw account for non-official but useful clues). We’ll update it all...

Last weekend, Pedro Pascal won the fan vote to take the Male TV Star of the Year trophy at the People’s Choice Awards for his role as Joel in HBO’s The Last Of Us. Six days later, he won the vote of his peers to land the SAG Award for Male Actor In a Drama Series, his first major industry recognition.
Having lost out to Succession’s Kieran Culkin at previous awards shows this season, Pascal looked stunned when his name was called.
“This is wrong for a number of reasons,” he said onstage. “I am a little drunk. I thought I could get drunk.” (You can watch his speech above.)
Later in the press room, Pascal revealed he drank tequila and confirmed that he was “genuinely surprised” by the win, which made him tear up with his publicists backstage.

According to a report, new Doctor Who companion Millie Gibson is leaving after her first series, and her replacement has been cast.
We’ve only had one hour of Ncuti Gatwa’s era of Doctor Who. However, in production terms, the second series is currently filming, and willl be broadcast in 2025.
While there are many advantages to filming so far ahead, one of the disadvantages is that information is harder to keep contained.
Which leads us to some news that was first reported by The Mirror – so do take it with a pinch of salt – but the story’s been picked up by a lot of websites, and it looks as though there’s something in this.
Apparently, Millie Gibson will leave Doctor Who after the 2024 Christmas Special. The new companion is said to be Varada Sethu, who is best known for starring in Neil Cross’ apocalyptic drama Hard Sun.

Looks like :a[Loki]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/tv/reviews/loki/' } TV show head writer Michael Waldron is becoming something of a Marvel fixture. :a[Already on board to write one of the future big Avengers team-up movies, Avengers: Secret Wars]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/news/avengers-secret-wars-adds-michael-waldron-as-writer/' }, he's now — according to Deadline, at least, cranking out the script for the film that will lead into it, which (for now) is called Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
Waldron, in addition to crafting the concept for the Loki series and running it alongside Eric Martin and director Kate Herron for Season 1 (other duties kept him away from Season 2), wrote :a[Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/doctor-strange-in-the-multiverse-of-madness/' } and new projects under a big deal with Marvel/20th Television via his production company Anomaly Pictures.

For the past few months, I’ve been talking with some of my friends and colleagues about a radical idea that’s been bouncing around in my head that I haven’t been able to shake: The only way Marvel Studios can save the MCU is to destroy it.
It’s become something of a national pastime of late to obsess over the perceived unraveling of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The box office failure of “The Marvels” — which just suffered through the worst opening weekend in the MCU’s history — is simply the latest indignity.
