Melbourne-based production company Truce Films has optioned the new book from Graeme Simsion, author of The Rosie Project.
Released as an Audible Original in September, Creative Differences follows the relationship between Emily, an aspiring literary writer, and Scott, a jobbing screenwriter.
Combining his punchy plot and her luminous prose, they crafted an international hit – and fell in love doing it. Three years later, Scott’s subsequent solo novel flops and Emily struggles with her literary manuscript, straining their relationship.
Director Bec Peniston Bird, who recently worked on Jack Irish, is attached to the project. She has previously collaborated with Simsion on short films, and the pair are early readers of each other’s work.
She said the story was well suited to a screen adaptation.

Ben Taylor—a British television director known for his work on Catastrophe—is going to be the latest to try his hand at The Rosie Project, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film would adapt Graeme Simsion’s novel about a genetics professor who tries to find the ideal woman using a what he calls the Wife Project, only to fall for a regular person named Rosie. At one point, Phil Lord and Chris Miller were going to make this movie. Then Richard Linklater thought about it. Jennifer Lawrence—if things had worked out—could have been the star.
But THR reports that Taylor will be starting from scratch casting-wise, though he’ll be working from the screenplay by The Fault In Our Stars’ Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, who took it on after Simsion did his own pass. Catastrophe is an excellent example of a rom-com with bite ...

Actor Ryan Reynolds is reportedly circling the film adaptation of Graeme Simsion's novel "The Rosie Project" for Sony Pictures.
Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber adapted the romantic dramedy which follows a socially inept genetics professor who comes up with a scientifically sound survey to find the perfect mate. His plans go awry when he meets a woman who, in her whirlwind manner, possesses all the opposite qualities he should be looking for.
Matt Tolmach and Michael Costigan are producing the film which previously had lined up Richard Linklater to direct and Jennifer Lawrence to star before both jumped ship.
Reynolds' involvement is dependent upon the scheduling of the "Deadpool" sequel which is the priority and is rumored to begin shooting as early as this Fall says Heroic Hollywood with a very early 2018 release being targeted.
Reynolds is also set to join Jake Gyllenhaal in the Mars mission film "Life" at Sony Pictures.

It hasn’t been the smoothest of rides for Sony’s adaptation of The Rosie Project up until now. Despite attracting two big-name stars in Jennifer Lawrence and Boyhood director Richard Linklater, the romantic drama was ordered back to the drawing board after losing both Lawrence and Linklater in quick succession.
But all is not lost – Deadline brings word that Deadpool‘s Ryan Reynolds is being eyed to headline the flick, one based on Graeme Simsion’s eponymous novel. Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber are working on the script, with Sony keen to remain largely faithful to Simsion’s acclaimed source material.
That means The Rosie Project will center around a reclusive genetics professor (Reynolds, potentially) who produces a scientifically proven survey that’ll help solve one of his biggest problems: finding a compatible life partner. Jennifer Lawrence isn't the only one to depart the adaptation of Graeme Simsion's The Rosie Project...
The book of The Rosie Project is well worth seeking out. Penned by Graeme Simsion, it's a funny yet intelligent book about a professor who struggles socially, who comes up with a survey to help him find his perfect partner. Enter the Rosie of the title.
The film version has been on the stove for a little while now, with Sony backing the project. And up until the end of last week, it had Jennifer Lawrence starring as Rosie, and Boyhood's Richard Linklater on board to direct. One week later, and they're both gone.
We reported on Lawrence's departure yesterday, as her crowded schedule gave her no room to slot the film in. She left the movie on Monday, and The Hollywood Reporter now adds that director Linklater left on the same day too.

If Sony’s The Rosie Project hit a speed bump yesterday when Jennifer Lawrence departed the project, then the romantic drama is careering straight into troubled waters now that The Hollywood Reporter has revealed director Richard Linklater has followed his former leading lady through the exit door.
Confirmation is only beginning to seep through today, with sources close to Tri-Star’s now-troubled production claiming that both parties bowed out of the film on Monday. In Lawrence’s case, representatives for the actress cite scheduling conflicts as the primary reason, considering that the Oscar-winner is currently shooting Passengers alongside Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt. Couple this with the all-too-brief gap between the starry sci-fi and X-Men: Apocalypse and it’s clear that a much-needed break also filtered into the official decision.

According to reports, the movie is now eying Boyhood filmmaker Richard Linklater to helm. Deadline has the news on this development, but there's no mention of whether or not an offer has been extended to the Austin-based director yet or if negotiations have begun in earnest yet. Should he sign on, Linklater will be replacing A-listers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who first became attached to The Rosie Project a little less than a year ago, and will be working with a script from duo Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber (The Spectacular Now, (500) Days of Summer). Things get more complicated, however, when he meets Rosie Jarman (Lawrence), a woman who doesn't possess any of the qualities he's looking for yet becomes irresistible to him. While Richard Linklater has always bounced back and forth between studio projects and indie movies, you have to go back to 2005's "Bad News Bears" to find his last full-fledged picture for a major Hollywood outlet (not counting indie arms). However, in the wake of the success of "Boyhood," it is interesting to see how the studios are coming back to Linklater. Paramount is distributing this next movie, which was just dated for spring 2016, and now Sony is eyeballing the filmmaker. Deadline reports that Linklater is the frontrunner to direct "The Rosie Project" starring Jennifer Lawrence. Phil Lord and Chris Miller were originally attached before they got too busy conquering Hollywood, and I have to say, this seems a little safe and dull for Linklater. One of Jennifer Lawrence's next films may have set its sights on an Oscar-nominated director.
According to Deadline, "Boyhood"'s Richard Linklater is the top choice to helm "The Rosie Project," in which Lawrence plays the titular object of the protagonist's affections. Linklater would replace previous "Rosie" helmers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who left the flick after striking a deal to make the recently-announced Han Solo-centric "Star Wars" prequel.
"Rosie," based on the novel by Graeme Simsion, focuses on an eccentric genetics professor who creates a scientific survey to make up for his lack of social skills and find the perfect love match. He then meets Rosie (Lawrence), who doesn't meet any of his qualifications, but bewitches him nonetheless.

Even though filmmaking duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller have spread themselves out pretty well -- including making two movies just last year -- their newly-announced Han Solo-spin-off is certainly going to be eating up a huge chunk of their time. So what was going to be their next film, The Rosie Project, will need some occupancies in their director's chairs. Sony hasn't had any trouble filling in a star for the titular role, though, and it's a big get: Jennifer Lawrence. Although no replacements were announced yet for Lord and Miller, Sony is still putting this movie on the fast-track as they quickly search for a replacement or two to call the shots. There's no release date or production line-up scheduled at least publicly, so it's not as though they're trying to get this one in before a certain deadline. That said, they probably want to get this thing...

Oscar-winning actor set for rom-com role in screen version of Graeme Simsion’s bestselling Australian novel
Jennifer Lawrence is set to play the romantic lead in the big screen adaptation of The Rosie Project, one of the bestselling Australian books of recent years.
Graeme Simsion’s debut novel is the story of a socially awkward genetics professor, Don Tillman, who devises a questionnaire to find the perfect mate and then meets Rosie, a bartender who matches none of his criteria. The book made it on to Bill Gates’s 2013 summer reading list and, reviewing it for the Guardian, Charlotte Moore wrote: “The hero of The Rosie Project is one of those rare fictional characters destined to take up residence in the popular consciousness.”

Jennifer Lawrence has been cast in a romantic "dramedy" being developed at Columbia Pictures.
The Hunger Games star is to play the lead in The Rosie Project.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is an adaptation of Graeme Simsion's novel The Rosie Effect, in which a socially anxious, awkward professor formulates a survey to find the perfect partner.
His stringently tested plans are thrown off track when he meets Rosie Jarman (Lawrence), whose personality goes against every requisite his survey demands.
Written by Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber (500 Days of Summer), with Matt Tolmach and Michael Costigan producing, the movie is currently in need of a director.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (Lego Movie) were initially attached to the project, but the pair were forced to bow out when they took on the young Han Solo Star Wars movie.
Lawrence is currently working on Passengers, a sci-fi love story co-starring Chris Pratt.

The idea of Phil Lord and Chris Miller going off and making a romantic dramedy is pretty quaint considering how in demand they are for Hollywood blockbuster. And given that they've just been handed the "Star Wars" Young Han Solo spinoff, it's likely they're not going to be out of the tentpole world for a while. But last fall, they flirted with "The Rosie Project," and while they are no longer involved, another big name has become attached. THR reports that Jennifer Lawrence will star in the movie. Penned by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber ("The Spectacular Now," "The Fault In Our Stars"), and based on Graeme Simsion's bestselling book, the screwball story follows a scientist who thinks he's put together the formula for the perfect match until he meets someone who turns his whole theory upside down. Here's the book synopsis: The art of love is never a science: Meet Don Tillman,...

Jennifer Lawrence is attached to star in the romantic dramedy "The Rosie Project" at Sony Pictures.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller ("21 Jump Street," "The Lego Movie") were considering directing but have now bowed out due to their commitment to the young Han Solo movie earlier this week.
As a result, the project is now seeking a director to tackle the script by Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber ("500 Days of Summer"). Matt Tolmach and Michael Costigan are producing.
An adaptation of a Graeme Simsion book, the story follows a socially inept genetics professor who comes up with a scientifically sound survey to find the perfect mate. His plans get curvy when he meets Rosie Jarman, whose whirlwind manner possesses all the opposite qualities he should be looking for.

Chris Miller and Phil Lord circle the film version of Graeme Simsion's The Rosie Project...
Graeme Simsion's novel The Rosie Project is the kind of book that's a lot, lot better than it sounds. Written strongly, it tells the story of a man who's never had a second date, who struggles to build a longlasting relationship with a woman, and who has hints of Asperger's. The solution to his dating problem is to come up with a questionnaire in order to help him find the ideal partner.
Reading that paragraph back though does the book a disservice. Whilst at times very funny, it's actually quite a tender read with some interesting stuff bubbling under the surface. But Simsion's very witty, structured writing makes it work a treat.
Simsion's follow-up novel is on the way, and now we learn a film version of the original book is coming too.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the directors of The Lego Movie and 21 and 22 Jump Street, are looking at taking on a new film called The Rosie Project for Sony Pictures. The script for the film will be written by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, who previously worked on the wonderfully made films (500) Days of Summer and The Fault in Our Stars. It's based on a book written by Graeme Simsion.
The story centers on a man named Don Tillman, "a professor of genetics who may suffer from Asperger’s and has never been on a second date until he embarks upon The Wife Project, designing a questionnaire to help him find the perfect partner: a punctual, non-drinking, non-smoking female who will fit in with his regimented lifestyle. When the unorthodox and free-spirited Rosie appears on the scene, it is clear that she fits none of his selection criteria, but...

Phil Lord and Chris Miller are in line to direct The Rosie Project.
The 22 Jump Street filmmakers are developing Graeme Simsion's breakout novel for Sony Pictures, reports Deadline.
(500) Days of Summer and The Fault in Our Stars writers Scott Neustadter and Michael H Weber are working on the script.
The Rosie Project centres around professor of genetics Don Tillman, who possibly suffers from Asperger's.
He has never been on a second date, and designs a questionnaire for The Wife Project in order to find his ideal woman.
When Rosie appears on the scene, she fits none of his specifications but might just be exactly who he has been looking for.
Lord and Miller also collaborated on The Lego Movie and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

"The Lego Movie" and "22 Jump Street" directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have been linked to a film adaptation of Graeme Simsion's "The Rosie Project" which Sony Pictures has optioned the screen rights to.
"The Fault In Our Stars" scribes Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber are set to adapt the script following Simsion who took a first pass on it. While the directors are developing, they won't commit to the project until the script is done.
The story follows a professor of genetics who may suffer from Asperger’s and has never been on a second date until he embarks upon The Wife Project, designing a questionnaire to help him find the perfect partner.
Said partner would be a punctual, non-drinking, non-smoking female who will fit in with his regimented lifestyle. However when an unorthodox and free-spirited woman named Rosie appears, she may just be his perfect match.

Despite the fact that Phil Lord and Chris Miller have had an insanely busy 2014 - which has included putting together both The Lego Movie and 22 Jump Street in addition to creating a new television show - fans of the filmmakers really only care with one thing: what they are doing next. Coming off of two incredibly successful features, the duo can presumably write their own check in Hollywood now, and audiences who have enjoyed their work now wonder what they will do with that opportunity. Apparently Ghostbusters 3 wasn't up their alley, but now it looks like they may have finally found their latest bit of inspiration. According to Deadline, Lord and Miller are now considering helming The Rosie Project, an adaptation of the romantic comedy novel by author Graeme Simsion. The filmmakers are now reportedly "developing the book" for the big screen, but they won't be the one's penning the...

Given the year they've had, thanks to "The Lego Movie" and "22 Jump Street," Phil Lord and Chris Miller can afford to be choosy. Indeed, they looked at "Ghostbusters 3" and decided it wasn't for them, and now they're taking a look at bringing one of the buzziest books of the year to the multiplex. Deadline reports that Lord and Miller are developing Graeme Simsion's "The Rosie Project," with and the possibility they could direct. Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber ("The Spectacular Now," "The Fault In Our Stars") are working on the latest draft of the script, and here's the Amazon synopsis so you can see why it has attracted this level of talent: The art of love is never a science: Meet Don Tillman, a brilliant yet socially inept professor of genetics, who’s decided it’s time he found a wife. In the orderly, evidence-based manner with which Don approaches all things,...

Do you know what Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs, The Lego Movie, and 21 Jump Steet have in common? With the exception of Jump Street, they were all directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller and many thought they all sounded like terrible ideas. Today, these guys and their Midas hands have the trust of suits and more importantly moviegoers; the duo has just signed on to develop and possibly direct The Rosie Project, based on a hit novel by Graeme Simsion. Earlier in the year Sony optioned the film rights to Graeme Simsion’s breakout debut novel, The Rosie Project. A huge hit in the UK and Australia, the studio’s early dibs may have paid off. Deadline reports that The Lego Movie‘s Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are onboard and currently developing the flick.
The pair have had a stream of wins on their hands, following the success of the aforementioned block-inspired comedy, 21 Jump Street and its sequel. They’ve not committed to directing the flick (yet), but will work alongside Sony producers Matt Tolmach and Michael Costigan during the development process. The talent involved so far indicate that this is shaping up to be the next dramedy hit. The Fault In Our Stars and 500 Days Of Summer writing duo Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber will be tackling the screenplay.
The book hasn’t even hit U.S.

Exclusive: The benefit of paying big for a hot book is that sometimes it draws the top-drawer talent. Sony Pictures optioned screen rights to the global breakout Graeme Simsion novel The Rosie Project for Sony-based producers Matt Tolmach and Michael Costigan, and the studio now has the 22 Jump Street and Lego Movie team of Phil Lord & Christopher Miller developing the book to potentially direct, and the (500) Days Of Summer and The Fault In Our Stars scribes Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber set to turn the book into a script. This is remarkable progress, considering it was April when the deal was closed by Columbia Pictures president Doug Belgrad and production president Hannah Minghella. The author took the first pass at the script, and Simon & Schuster publishes his book in the U.S. next month.
