[[tmz:video id="0_tyfz2763"]] Forget Mayweather vs. McGregor ... it was Yankees Vs. Tigers in Detroit -- when Miguel Cabrera got into a fistfight with Yanks catcher, Austin Romine, and the benches cleared! Here's the backstory .... Tigers pitcher Michael Fulmer had drilled Yankees star, Gary Sanchez, earlier in the game. Yanks reliever Tommy Kahnle retaliated by throwing behind Cabrera. Kahnle and Yankees manager, Joe Girardi, were both ejected over the pitch -- but Cabrera was still unhappy and straight socked Romine behind home plate.

There have been plenty of fun moments in Major League Baseball so far this season but none, and I mean none compare to what happened when Detroit visited Seattle this week. I’m pretty sure after seeing this Miguel Cabrera became my new favorite player and it has absolutely nothing to do with how good a player he is. Cabrera was tracking down a routine pop up that would land foul and way into the stands. The second Cabrera knew that he had zero chance at catching this ball. Instead of turning the other way to get back to first base,

It’s amazing to think how far Sce San Diego and the Mlb: The Show franchise have come over the past decade. The first entry in the revitalized series was a pleasant enough surprise, but was still overshadowed by the more well-known Mlb 2K series. Over time, though, the quality of The Show began to steadily improve, and in turn, gamers turned to it in order to get their digital baseball fix.
Now, after several years of dominance, Mlb 15: The Show essentially finds itself alone on the marketplace, as Sce San Diego’s digital replication of America’s pastime has turned away all competitors. With little opposition, outside of the digital only R.B.I. Ryan Kavanaugh and Tucker Tooley at Relativity Media have been through different manifestations through the years that involved grand enterprises like slate financing half of the movies in Hollywood at one time, and plotting an Ipo in the near future. The story of this festival has been the number of upstart companies that bought films as they re-brand themselves into indie distribution players. They include the soon-to-be-renamed Millennium buying Madame Bovary, EuropaCorp buying Big Game for its new domestic distribution pipeline Red, and Rlj/Image acquiring the Thomas McCarthy-directed Adam Sandler comedy The Cobbler.
Relativity has also been honing its own identity, and it made the first two deals of the festival, buying the completed picture The Woman in Black 2, and Kidnap, a thriller that Halle Berry will star in. Relativity chased the Chris Rock film Top Five and premiered two films here, Beyond The Lights and Hector And The Search For Happiness.

Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera has become Major League Baseball's first Triple Crown winner since Boston's Carl Yastrzemski in 1967. Cabrera is the 15th player to accomplish the rare feat.
The Triple Crown is awarded if a player finishes in first place for batting average, home runs and RBIs. Cabrera finished the season atop all three categories in the American League, with .330 avg., 44 home runs and 139 RBIs.

With just one week remaining in the regular season and with most of the post-season berths already occupied, the attention of Mlb fans around the world has turned to the thorny issue of individual awards – which player deserves to win what. Every year there seems to be a huge amount of debate about the Mvp (Most Valuable Player) winners from both leagues, and this year’s American League Mvp race is proving to be no different. With respect to Edwin Encarnacion of the Toronto Blue Jays and second baseman Robinson Cano of the New York Yankees (who have both had fantastic seasons) it does appear that the Al Mvp crown for 2012 is a straight shoot-out between two men – Miguel Cabrera and the wonderfully named Mike Trout.

Interleague play came at the perfect time for the Detroit Tigers - and the rest of the American League may be paying the price for the remainder of the season.
The Tigers, like the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels, have gotten fat against the National League the past 10 games. The Tigers entered the interleague portion of the schedule at 26-31, riddled with injuries and looking like they may never find their groove. But find it they have against the Nl, running off a 7-3 record to pull back to a game under .500, and now that the Tigers are rolling a bit they aren't likely to slow down, even when they return to Al competition.

The San Diego Padres drafted a kind of random college quarterback, Toledo's Terrance Owens, with their final selection in the recent Mlb draft - even though Owens isn't a baseball player. Owens hasn't played the sport since his first year of high school, in fact.
He told the Padres thanks, but no thanks, but it got my mind spinning. Great American athletes are not flocking to the game of baseball like they have in the past. African Americans in particular are abandoning baseball at a young age in favor of basketball and football, and the number of blacks in baseball has plunged to post-integration lows.
But I've always fantasized (and I mean that entirely non-sexually) about how awesome it would have been to see Allen Iverson on a ball diamond (he was a hell of a high school Qb an Db on the gridiron), and I've always thought that if Michael Vick weren't left-handed,...

Chicago – Previous installments of Sony’s hit baseball series “Mlb The Show” have shattered sales records and won dozens of awards. The new edition, “Mlb 12 The Show,” is the best to date. With amazing graphics, an addictive new pitching mechanic, and the depth of play we’ve come to expect from this series, a new bar has been set.

Whether you are the kind of sports game player who longs for online action or the kind who goes deep into a franchise mode on your own, it is not cliched to say that “Mlb 12 The Show” has a style of play for everyone who likes baseball. Without major changes to any of the modes (there’s a new pitching mechanic but you can switch to the old style if you prefer), the differences this year may seem minor but they add up. There’s a sense that...

The Detroit Tigers' first baseman Miguel Cabrera was arrested late Wednesday, Feb. 16, on suspicion of drunken driving in Florida. He was also charged with resisting an office without violence. Cabrera was struggled with drinking-related problems in the past.
Deputies spotted Cabrera in a car with a smoking engine and said he smelled of alcohol, has slurred speech and drank from a bottle of scotch in front of a deputy. After refusing to cooperate, more deputies were called to the scene, which was about 110 miles southeast of Lakeland, where his team is holding spring training.
Cabrera wandered into the road with his hands up before being handcuffed, according to the police report. The 27-year-old kept saying, "Do you know who I am? You don't know anything about my problems." Deputies said Cabrera refused to take a breath test.
In 2009, police said Cabrera got into a fight with his wife after a night of drinking.

Congratulations to Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz, who won the 2010 Major League Baseball Home Run Derby on Monday night (July 12). Ortiz managed to crank out a total of 32 home runs over the course of three rounds, including an 11 dinger final round that allowed him to slip past Hanley Ramirez, the Florida Marlins shortstop who joined Ortiz in the last round. In addition to Ramirez, Ortiz also left New York Yankees outfielder Nick Swisher, St. Louis Cardinals left fielder Matt Holliday, Toronto Blue Jays center fielder Vernon Wells, Arizona Diamondbacks center fielder Chris Young, Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera and Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Corey Hart in his wake.
Though the backdrop was beautiful (Angel Stadium features a lovely rock formation beyond the center field wall, which made for a lot of awesome-looking ricochets and wacky bounces), the telecast on Espn remained as problematic as ever. Depending on who your are,...

Last night, in front of a hometown crowd in the Motor City, Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga was robbed of a perfect game. With two down in the top of the ninth, the 28-year-old Venezuelan hustled to first base to catch Miguel Cabrera’s throw that should have sealed the first perfect game in Detroit Tigers history. But umpire Jim Joyce called Cleveland’s Jason Donald safe and Comerica Park erupted in boos and shouts that carried on through the next batter and final out. After the game, Joyce apologized, saying, “I did not get the call correct ... I just cost that kid a perfect game.” Though Galarraga was graceful, telling reporters, “Nobody’s perfect,” apologies won’t give Galarraga his perfect game back. But a reversal of the call by Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig could. With the exception of questionable home runs, there is no instant replay in baseball.

Armando Galarraga may have been robbed during Wednesday night's (June 2) game, but at least everyone is supporting him ... even the guy who did him wrong. But man, that's really cold comfort when you consider that history could have been made in a big way.
As the replay shows, umpire Jim Joyce ruled batter Jason Donald safe on an infield hit, even though he was clearly out when Galarraga received the throw from Miguel Cabrera.
Even after Joyce made the call, everyone was dumbfounded, including Donald, the commentators and of course Galarraga.
"I just cost the kid a perfect game," Joyce says later in the umpires room. "I thought he beat the throw. I was convinced he beat the throw until I was the replay. It was the biggest call of my career."
If Galarraga's game hadn't been tainted, this would have been the 21st perfect game in all of the modern era of baseball.
