ABC's Skating With The Stars has crowned its first champion, All My Children star Rebecca Budig.
Budig and her partner, Fred Palascak, skated a clean, yet spunky program that won her perfect tens from all three judges in both categories. "It feels great!" she gushed when co-host Tanith Belbin asked how she felt. "I know it's only a TV show, but it feels great!"...

All My Children’s Rebecca Budig and her partner Fred Palascak won the inaugural season of Skating With the Stars, edging out Bethenny Frankel of the Real Housewives of New York and her partner Ethan Burgess. Skating with the Stars carried the hopes of ABC for the period between the fall and midseason season of Dancing with the Stars. This proposition went obviously wrong. From the beginning, the competition show was skating on thin ice. Although Rebecca Budig and Fred Palascak won the golden skates, there were actually no real winners on this show.
The first and certainly only season finale of Skating with the Stars generated 3.42 million viewers and a 0.8 rating/3 share among adults 18-49. Compared to yesterday, this was an increase of 60 percent in adults 18-49 but deficient in strength to at least reach mediocrity. Repeats of No Ordinary Family (3.14 million viewers; A18-49: 0.8/2) and Detroit 1-8-7 (4.59 million viewers; A18-49: 0.9/3) capped off the evening for ABC.
Tuesday victory in total viewers went to CBS with its repeat combination of NCIS (12.32 million viewers; A18-49: 2.2/7), NCIS: Los Angeles (11.31 million viewers; A...

Who was the best ice queen of them all? It turned out to be All My Children actress Rebecca Budig, who outskated Real Housewives of New York star Bethenny Frankel on Tuesday night to be crowned the winner of ABC's inaugural Skating with the Stars season. Budig, the front-runner all season long - she notched the season's only perfect score of 60 - was stunned to be named the winner, and credited her partner, the skating pro Fred Palascak. "I'm just shocked. I owe all of this to Fred, who is an unbelievable teacher," she said. Meanwhile, Frankel, 40, who skated with Ethan Burgess,...

Rebecca Budig and Fred Palascak have been crowned the first ever champions of ABC's Skating With The Stars. The pair beat runners-up Bethenny Frankel and Ethan Burgess by receiving the highest combined score of judges' and viewers' votes. "I owe all of this to Fred, who is an unbelievable teacher. I've said it a hundred times, but honestly, I owe it all to him," Rebecca said after her win. "This is such a shock! I can't believe it." Tonight's finale included performances from each of the previously eliminated contestants as well as one last performance from both finalists as they attempted to impress the judges. Here's what the judges said about the contestants' final performances:

It's remarkable how long 5 weeks can feel.
The first -- and, let's be honest, probably the only -- season of ABC's "Skating With the Stars" came to a close on Dec. 21, crowning "All My Children" star Rebecca Budig as its champ.
It's only slightly surprising, given her domination of the competition and perfect score for her last routine, but Jonny Moseley's elimination on the eve of the finale did seem to turn the tide in runner-up Bethenny Frankel's favor.
Budig shares her handsome silver-covered skate trophy and partner Fred Palascak.
So did the right woman win? Did you even watch? And if not, why are you reading this?...

Give or take a mystery illness and a bloody injury or two, Skating WIth the Stars has kinda fallen through the cracks. But despite a pretty icy reception from TV audiences, Real Housewives of New York alum Bethenny Frankel and All My Children hottie Rebecca Budig twirled into Tuesday's finale with something to prove and one shared goal: Elate Dick Buttons. And skate the routine of their lives, of course. Well, there were no falls, flubs or nervous freakouts this time as Rebecca and pro partner Fred Palascak were named the first-ever (and perhaps only) winners of Skating With the Stars . "I'm shocked, really I am!," exclaimed Rebecca. "Bethenny and I were talking about...

Something surprising finally happened on "Skating With the Stars" -- and it wasn't just the fact that this apparently isn't the last episode.
That's right. The "Swts" finale is a two-nighter, and one of the competition's early favorites won't be in attendance "Who?" you ask. Well, you can plainly see in the headline, but let's just run through the penultimate routines in the spirit of protocol.
The Group Dance:
Somehow amateurish figure skating is infinitely more digestible when it's set to Christmas music, but isn't everything? The three finalists spinning in circles to "All I Want For Christmas Is You" was sweet -- but it didn't rock the score boat. Rebecca distinguished herself from runner-up Jonny Moseley, who was just marginally better than Bethenny Frankel.
Rebecca Budig and Fred Palascak (66 out of 70)
Though we'd object that it was a tad too schmaltzy, Budig's free-skate was an appropriate culmination of her incredible 10-week progress.

The tension and awkwardness is mounting over at "Skating With the Stars," with last week's absentee competitor officially succumbing to illness and a beloved underdog really butting heads with the apparently irritable Johnny Weir.
But that's what you wanted, isn't it, America -- some drama chilled to 32 degrees Fahrenheit?*
We barely even know how to write about this show anymore, it's gone so far off the tracks, but we're obviously still willing to try. So let's just plow through this sucker, chronological-like:
The Brandon Mychal Smith situation
After bailing on last week's episode with some undiagnosed illness that resulted in pixelated vomit, Smith was a no-go for a second week in a row, gracefully bowing out of the competition. He must feel awful, though, because he couldn't even stand up during the announcement -- not to mention the fact that "Swts" is certainly a better platform for him than the...

Welcome back to Skating With the Stars, the low-rent-verging-on-homeless version of Dancing With the Stars! ‘Tis the season for not being able to get the cave-troll growl of British host Vernon Kay’s “liiiiive.” (compared to Tom Bergeron’s hearty “Liiiiiiiive!”) out of your rotting brain, no matter how hard you bang your head against the ice! What’s the use? What is the point of anything? I have no words. Here are some screengrabs.

Week 2 taught us that celebrity carnage didn't bring us the happiness we expected, but Week 3 reveals that it certainly makes for compelling TV.
We're already at the halfway mark on "Skating With the Stars," and it's clearly taking its toll on the cast.
Brandon Mychal Smith left rehearsals in an ambulance earlier on show day, right around the time Jonny Moseley's partner Brooke Castile took a skate to the hand, slicing her finger to the bone.
ABC made us sweat out the episode to see if Smith would make it back in time to perform (he didn't), while Castile, in a show of super trooper-dom, skated with her hand in a brace.
So what do we with our stars in stitches and slings? Make 'em jump! The Week 3 challenge requires a leap from the ice and a one-foot landing. Let's see who was up to the task.

We'd been waiting and waiting for the carnage to begin on "Skating With the Stars," and when it finally did... it left us feeling empty inside.
Other people's misfortunes normally give us such pleasure, but there was no laughing at Sean Young or Vince Neil when they came crashing down on their famous behinds in this second round of "Swts."
So what did we learn this week aside from the fact that we just might have a soul? Well, for one, this show is markedly more entertaining now that they've ripped off the broadcast band-aid. Once it became clear that collective skepticism couldn't cause the studio to burst into flames, everyone seemed a lot more comfortable the second time around -- including Mr. Dick Button, whose mixed metaphors make us wish we could adopt him from the grandpa orphanage.

Did "All My Children" star Rebecca Budig expect to top the leader board during week 1 of "Skating With the Stars?"
"No... no, no."
Zap2it caught up with Budig and partner Fred Palascak at the series premiere, and the happy couple explained that things weren't actually going so well heading into the first broadcast.
"We've had a lot of not good rehearsals," says Palascak, who admits things didn't really click until that evening.
And it's not for a lack of trying. The two have been rehearsing daily, before, after and sometimes even during Budig's 12-hour shift at "AMC." Some days Budig even goes into work, gets her hair and makeup done and heads to the rink for an hour's worth of practice before heading back to film her scenes.
"I've got to cram it all in," she says. "I get energy when I come to the rink. I'm really excited to be doing this,...

I discovered one thing while watching ABC's Skating with the Stars last night. The sound I kept hearing was not metal scraping ice, it was reality TV scraping the bottom of the barrel.
Actually, that may be a bit unfair. Skating is really no worse than the show that preceded it, but this whole " ______ with the Stars" genre needs to be nipped in the bud.
At the very least, they need to look outside these boring challenges, and offer up something unexpected. For instance, Red Light/Green Light with the Stars, or Chainsaw Juggling with the Stars.
As for Skating, it was pretty much what it was expected to be, a low-rent copy of Dancing with the Stars, with one notable exception.

Skating With the Stars debuted last night, and although British host Vernon Kay (no Tom Bergeron) did his best to repeatedly assure us that this was the most dangerous live competition on TV — “The performances will be just as explosive, the costumes even tinier, but there is an added element of danger — razor-sharp blades of steel strapped to the feet of six very nervous stars!” — no one even fell during their debut performances. At least we got some serious spills in the training montages. (Vince Neil fell more than all the other contestants combined, we were told.) After all, Kay promised,...

Much like that Daniel Day-Lewis movie about oil prospecting and milkshakes, it looks like we're going to have to wait a bit for the blood we've been promised.
Sure, ABC may not be plugging "Skating With the Stars" as a dystopian battle to the death were celebrities are forced to dance on knives over unforgiving ice... but that's sort of why you're tuning in, right?
Yes, it's our morbid curiosity about what might go wrong that draws us to "Swts." Though, after the premiere, it looks as though we'll also have some rather exciting performances to look forward to -- while we wait for carnage.
So what do we have to say of this first taste of skating? Let's break it down couple by semi-recognizable couple:
Brandon Mychal Smith and Keauna McLaughlin (36, out of 60)

The "Skating With the Stars" contestant who has previous figure-skating experience is, believe it or not, Motley Crue frontman Vince Neil. But he's not the potential ringer in the lineup.
No, we're looking at "All My Children" Rebecca Budig as the out-of-the-gate favorite in this competition.
It's not just because she snagged the night's highest score, 45 out of a possible 60. It was the fact that she looked far more comfortable on the ice than any of her fellow competitors. Her rehearsal package made mention of her skating (though not competitively, apparently) as a kid, and where several of the other celebs seemed apprehensive about strapping on skates, she was more excited to start working with her partner, Fred Palascak.
The proof came in her performance. Take a look:

"Skating With the Stars" premieres on Nov. 22, and though ABC is keeping mum about the judges' panel, they've revealed 8 key players in the upcoming freshman season.
Team USA's all-time winningest ice dancer, Tanith Belbin, brings her expertise as color commentator, and British TV personality Vernon Kay will host. (For those not familiar with Kay, he's basically the male version of Cat Deeley).
As for the six professional skaters who've already been training with their celebrity partners, here they are:

Brooke Castile and Jonny Moseley: Castile took home the U.S. pairs title in 2007.

Rebecca Budig will know soon whether she's on thin ice.
The longtime cast member of the ABC weekday serial "All My Children" skated regularly as a child, but that was only partial preparation for her to be one of the first celebrities on the rink for "Skating With the Stars," ABC's new "Dancing With the Stars" spinoff that premieres Monday, Nov. 22.

Welcome to our live coverage of tonight’s Dancing On Ice show. After an amazing Valentine’s Day episode last week, we’re more than a little bit excited to see what’s on the show this week!
Hayley Tamaddon topped the scoreboard last week, but will Gary Lucy, Daniella Westbrook or Kieron Richardson catch up with her?
And on Hollywatch this week, Ms Willoughby is wearing what looks like a bodice with a dress tacked on. Very sexy. And Torvill and Dean give another effortlessly graceful opening to the show. Tonight’s guest judge – in case you care – is former newsreader Angela Rippon.

Somehow, in a bid to make the Sunday-evening-eating monster that is Dancing On Ice even more unpalatable, ITV have chosen to hire Michael Ball to replace Robin Cousins. The five-person judging team was overloaded anyway – I’d have been happy to have a four-person panel and more of Jason Gardiner’s classic spiteful comments!
Anyway, we’re covering Dancing On Ice live tonight – this post will have judge’s comments, a scoreboard and some of my own commentary on each act. Enjoy! And leave loads of comments!

Former Dancing On Ice winner Kyran Bracken has claimed that any of the contestants could win this year’s competition.
“It’s up for grabs this year. There’s no Ray Quinn style person, or Chris Fountain, who’s obviously a very talented dancer or skater,” he told The Mirror. “So I think it’s going to be a level playing field, but it’ll be interesting to see how people do.”
Bracken also claimed that having dance experience won’t help the stars as much as they think.
“The reason I think I ended up winning was because I’m not the best dancer, I’m maybe not the best co-ordinated person, but a lot of the celebrities who took part in my year were probably scared of falling,” said the 38-year-old.
“Being a popstar and a good dancer doesn’t really help you on the ice because you...

Inbetweeners actress Emily Atack has claimed that she is struggling with motion sickness on Dancing On Ice. The 20-year-old TV star said that when she performs spins with her partner Fred Palascak, she feels nauseous. "This is the thing, I get motion sickness," she told Digital Spy. "When Fred spins me around, I'm like, 'woo!' and have to stop. I'll have to sort that out if I get to the final with the [flying on] strings. "You could [get some vomiting] on Sunday night. I'll save (more)...

Dancing On Ice star Jessica Taylor has admitted that she was devastated by the result of last weekend's public vote. The former popstar and her dance partner Pavel Aubrecht found themselves in the bottom two alongside Melinda Messenger and Fred Palascak on Sunday evening, but were saved by the panel of judges. "It was heart-wrenching to hear my name called out," Taylor told The Mirror. "I thought: 'Oh God, people must not like me at all.' "We'd just received our highest marks of the series and I'm putting my heart and soul into this. I don't think I could put in anything more in terms of effort. I've never taken (more)...

Melinda Messenger has become the latest celebrity to be voted off Dancing On Ice. The 37-year-old model, who was in the bottom two for the fourth time, was joined by Liberty X singer Jessica Taylor in the skate-off. All five judges voted unanimously to save Taylor, whose position in the skate-off was described as "controversial" by host Phillip Schofield. Messenger and professional skater Fred Palascak only scored 18.5 from the panel for their performance to 'Let's Hear It For The Boy'. (more)...
