United Talent Agency is expanding its partnership class by 24 today.
As Judd Apatow parts ways with the Jeremy Zimmer-led UTA after 30 years (as Deadline exclusively reported today), the agency announced the promotion of the two dozen from a wide range of divisions. Thursday’s promotions top the 19 new partners that UTA unveiled in October 2020, a 30-year high.
It’s worth noting there are five of the new partners today coming out of the agency’s unsettled MediaLink division, which saw its founder and ex-uta partner Michael Kassan in a messy and ongoing employment and legal melee with UTA the past few months. UTA’s Music division also spawns five new partners, and a trio of new partners out of the Publishing unit, among others.
“Each of these new partners embodies UTA’s commitment to innovation, entrepreneurship and collaboration, which translates into impeccable service for our clients,” UTA President David Kramer said Thursday.

Exclusive: Writer-director-producer Judd Apatow has left UTA, ending one of the most tenured relationships with a major filmmaker and a major agency.
Apatow spent 30 years at the agency, 20 of them with David Kramer, and he remains managed by Mosaic’s Jimmy Miller and lawyered by Ziffrin Brittenham. These long relationships often come to a close, usually when the client wants to shake things up at a moment when it is hard, particularly in the comedy space. It was amicable, and I hear he’ll be meeting with CAA and WME.
But this is a moment to tip the hat at how the agency helped Apatow build his brand, and how Apatow’s prolific successes were a major part of building UTA. There aren’t many tenured relationships that led to as much success as Apatow has had and how many careers he has launched in that time. That goes from...

Exclusive: Tracey Jacobs will end a 25-year run at UTA next year.
One of the most accomplished Hollywood talent agents of her era, Jacobs will stay on for the next several months to help with the transition of her clients and serve as an adviser to the company. She hasn’t set her next move yet, and her exit is an amicable one.
Jacobs left ICM to join United Talent Agency as a partner in 1998. She has blazed a trail for agents in Hollywood and in particular female agents, who had little voice in the hierarchy of a male-dominated industry when she came to UTA. UTA President David Kramer on London Expansion, Brexit, Writers Strike and “Getting Smart Around AI”
UTA is inaugurating its new London office on Thursday evening with a gala opening.
The new space in the heart of the British capital is bringing together more than 100 people on two floors, ranging from UTA’s music practice, agents working on production, podcasting, endorsements, voiceovers, and entertainment marketing, as well as staff of advisory practice MediaLink, which UTA acquired in 2021. The new home is also near that of the talent and literary agency Curtis Brown Group, which became part of UTA last year.
Management is hoping for “increased collaboration” and a chance to offer “more collective expertise and resources” to clients and the broader London creative and business communities. And UTA aims to continue growing its investment in “bringing U.K. and European clients more opportunities.”

UTA has just informed its employees there will be “temporary furloughs” that are needed in light of the coronavirus pandemic. The number is high, I’m told, and will mainly impact assistants, but isn’t entirely limited to that.
Employees impacted by this will lose their paychecks in a couple of weeks and the intention is to bring people back when business resumes. Employees will have their health premiums paid, and the expectation is they will be filing for unemployment checks that will help them through this crisis, and the advance notice hopefully gives those furloughed the chance to apply for unemployment and have it kick in when the paychecks stop. This is the equivalent of an unpaid leave, something that has been common during this pandemic crisis.

UTA on Monday took the wraps off a new logo, the agency’s first brand revamp since 2011, with the abstract, three-dimensional shape meant to emphasize the agency’s “continued and evolving commitment to uniting ideas, opportunities and talent,” it said.
The logo is already on the agency’s website, and building signage will go up next month at the company’s Los Angeles headquarters on Civic Center Drive in Beverly Hills.
“Our new identity captures the multiple facets and intersections of our business today,” UTA CEO Jeremy Zimmer said in a release today unveiling the logo (see it above). “We have evolved with the specific focus to create opportunities for our clients across every part of our business and hope to continue to serve as hub for creative collaboration.”

Exclusive: United Talent Agency has retained Moelis & Company to find an investor to acquire an equity stake in UTA as high as 40%, sources said. If a deal makes — it is not set in stone that UTA will close — the agency will primarily use the capital infusion to continue to aggressively broaden its businesses, something that has already been happening organically. And it might enter into the content creation arena as Wme and CAA have done.
Sources with knowledge of the situation said the agency turns an annual profit north of $50 million on revenues north of $325M. It wasn’t clear at the moment the worth of an equity stake as high as 40% would bring from an outside investor.
CEO Jeremy Zimmer is driving the process, and he runs the agency with co-presidents Jay Sures and David Kramer. The agency has been growing organically over the past few years, much of it through strategic acquisitions.

United Talent Agency’s founders (and partners) are taking off their suits tomorrow, rolling up their sleeves and doing the real work across this country and overseas. UTA will close all offices internationally Friday for its seventh annual Project Impact volunteer day to enable the agency’s 900 employees to dedicate their time and service at roughly 40 volunteer sites worldwide.
That means CEO Jeremy Zimmer, Co-Presidents Jay Sures and David Kramer as well as Chairman Jim Berkus and Board Members Tracey Jacobs, Matt Rice, Blair Kohan and Peter Benedek will all be volunteering, too. Cell phones off? Ummm … probably not, but it’s the life of an agent.
They are not the only ones, ICM Partners is doing the same tomorrow for offices on both coasts.
UTA’s Project Impact is a weeklong, global event organized by the UTA Foundation where hundreds of agents, executives, assistants and staff devote time to charitable organizations in Los Angeles,...
