Netflix has set Taiwanese drama series “Forget You Not,” directed by multi-hyphenate talent Rene Liu, who steps behind the camera after establishing herself as one of Taiwan’s premier actress-singers.
The drama features an ensemble cast featuring Golden Horse Award-winning actress Hsieh Ying-xuan, veteran actor Chin Han, Tracy Chou and Esther Liu (“At the Moment”). The series also benefits from special appearances by Wallace Huo (“Light the Night”), Wang Po-chieh (“Eye of the Storm”) and Chen Yi-wen.
Set against the backdrop of a bustling metropolis, “Forget You Not” delves into the powerful role of memory within family dynamics. The narrative centers on Cheng Le-le (Hsieh), a stand-up comedian moonlighting as a convenience store employee who struggles to balance her career ambitions with her marriage. While harboring dreams of a brighter future, she navigates complex relationships with her husband Chang Kai (Huo) and her father Cheng Kuang-chi (Chin Han). These challenges...

In the late 2010s, if you needed a leading man for a brains-off action/adventure movie, you called one person: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's agent. For a solid 5 years, The Rock was a fixture of movies that, at one time, would have been the perfect "sick on a Saturday" TNT rock block of entertainment. One of these popcorn flicks is 2018's Skyscraper, which is currently climbing the streaming charts. Skyscraper finds Johnson starring as Will Sawyer, a former FBI agent and amputee who, after injuries sustained while on a hostage rescue mission, becomes a security consultant for high-rise buildings. After terrorists capture the tallest building in the world in Hong Kong and try and extort its developer, Sawyer must rescue his family, who are trapped inside the burning structure.

Training is over, as the stakes of Mortal Kombat 2's tournament will have consequences for the film and the franchise moving forward. It has been four years since Mortal Kombat debuted in theaters and on Max, and the long-anticipated sequel Mortal Kombat 2 is set to hit theaters in October 2025. A common criticism of 2021's Mortal Kombat was how it essentially acted as a set-up for the epic tournament played in the games, but it is now the main selling point of the sequel and a major factor in the narrative.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Mortal Kombat video game co-creator and creative director of NetherRealm Studios Ed Boon spoke about the stakes of Mortal Kombat 2. If Earthrealm loses its 10th consecutive tournament against Outworld, then the villain Shao Kahn (played by Martin Ford) will be allowed to invade Earth and take over. Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon explains why Mortal Kombat 2 is bringing back dead characters, revealing how the movie is able to see their return. The cast of Mortal Kombat 2will see the return of deceased characters like Kano (Josh Lawson) and Kung Lao (Max Huang). Both characters died in the previous film, with Kano having been killed by Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee) and Kung Lao having his soul taken by Shang Tsung (Chin Han). However, with their return, the budding movie franchise has opened the door for deceased character stories to continue.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Boon explained how Mortal Kombat 2's inclusion of the NetherRealm will explain how dead characters are able to come back to life. The first images from Mortal Kombat 2, debuted by EW, reveal “The Boys” star Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, a fan-favorite character from the video game franchise.
The photos also show Adeline Rudolph (“Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”) as Kitana, Hiroyuki Sanada returning as Scorpion, and bodybuilder Martyn Ford (“The Sandman”) as antagonist Shao Kahn.
“You finally get to see Johnny Cage,” Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon tells EW. “His integration into the Mortal Kombat story and universe is a big part of what this movie explores. He’s a washed-up Hollywood guy thrown into this magical, ultra-violent thing.
“Karl, his depiction of Johnny Cage is different than our games in some ways. He’s adding his own flare to it, but I think it’ll feel fresh. There’s like a novelty factor in there.”

Underworld star Kate Beckinsale and Mortal Kombat’sLewis Tan will join forces for a new “under-the-radar" action thriller from director James Nunn, the filmmaker behind the Scott Adkins action outings One Shot and One More Shot. Yes, it is pretty much everything you could hope for as an action movie fan. You're welcome. Titled Lioness, production is now underway in the United Kingdom, and the first details have now been revealed.
According to a report by Deadline, Capstone will finance the action movie, which will follow “an ex-black ops team who reunite to pull off a desperate heist to save the life of their leader’s (Beckinsale) eight-year-old daughter.” Which, frankly, sounds like the kind of pitch perfect, no-nonsense plot that action dreams are often made of.
Alongside Kate Beckinsale and Lewis Tan, the rest of the cast includes Rasmus Hardiker, Alice Krige, Bailey Patrick, Tom Bennett, Matt Willis, and Roxy Striar.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is a show that has stood the test of time, as beloved today as it was when it aired on Nickelodeon back in the 2000s. The first season of Netflix's live-action remake wasn't received quite as warmly, but the cast and crew put on a good show, and it was fun seeing those classic episodes presented in a new way.
And it was good enough that Netflix renewed the show for two more seasons, which will allow executive producers Christine Boylan and Jabbar Raisani to tell the story in full; there are also three seasons of the original show. “We’re looking forward to working with all of our actors again and digging into the deeper, more complicated relationships that develop as their journey continues in Season 2,” Boylan and Raisani told Tudum. “We are going to show the real-world versions of iconic scenes from the original,...

Get over here... and check out the first official posters for Mortal Kombat II!
Producer Todd Garner has been sharing teasing behind-the-scenes photos from the sequel for quite a while, but we finally have some official promotional material via a poster spotlighting Karl Urban as "Johnny F*cking Cage," and a banner featuring the movie's updated logo.
The Boys and Star Trek actor doesn't appear to be in his classic video game costume as the beloved Mk character, but that's likely because this is a movie-within-a-movie poster for one of Cage's action flicks, "Uncaged Fury."
The cocky Hollywood star turned heroic freedom fighter's debut was set up at the end of the first movie when Cole Young (Lewis Tan) told his fellow kombatants that he knew someone "out in LA" that could aid them in the impending rematch against the forces of Outworld.

Mortal Kombat fans finally got their first look at The Boys and Dredd star Karl Urban as fan-favorite fighter Johnny Cage. But, while he’s one of the most popular actors right now, and cuts a perfectly fine figure as Cage (though does he only star in movies based on his own last name?), many have since taken to social media to question the casting choice. With some feeling that a different action star would have been far better suited: John Wick: Chapter 4 star Scott Adkins.
The debate kicked off thanks to Vulture and GQ journalist @BrndnStrssng, who took to X/Twitter to praise Urban, but questioned whether he’s really the right choice for Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat 2. “I love Karl Urban but this is nuclear grade terrible casting,” he said. “If you were gonna with a guy in his mid-40s, it was always Adkins,...

Mortal Kombat director Simon McQuoid is back at the helm for the sequel Mortal Kombat 2, and while the video game adaptation wrapped production back in January of 2024 after a bumpy ride through the year of the strikes, they had to go back for some reshoots last summer. So we still don’t know when this movie is going to be released – but it is starting to take some steps forward. Back in November, we learned that Mortal Kombat 2 has been rated R for strong bloody violence and gore, and language. Now, a logo for the film has been unveiled, along with a poster featuring the character of actor Johnny Cage, played by Karl Urban. You can check those images out at the bottom of this article.
The screenplay for Mortal Kombat 2 has been written by Jeremy Slater, who was the lead writer on the Marvel / Disney+ series Moon Knight.

It's not often that a live-action adaptation of another piece of work is done right, but with the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series, Netflix might have just struck the perfect balance between staying true to the beloved animated series and adding a fresh, cinematic touch.

The Joker character in Christopher Nolan’s Batman film, The Dark Knight (2008) could have looked very different had the part not gone to Heath Ledger, who ultimately won a posthumous Oscar for his captivating performance. Another Academy Award winner, Adrien Brody, per Comic Book, just confessed on Josh Horowitz’s podcast that he was up for the part in the Batman Begins sequel. However, he said he was not surprised he didn’t get the role.

Actor John Lawson has revealed that his character, Kano, will make a surprise return in the upcoming film “Mortal Kombat 2.” This return marks a tremendous turnaround from his death in the first film.
In a recent interview with The Direct, Lawson discussed how death will change Kano’s character journey in the highly anticipated sequel. “Death alters you,” he remarked, referring to “Kano 2.0.” Lawson highlighted Kano’s unpredictable nature, noting, “Kano’s alliances can change at the drop of a hat, and that’s certainly true in the second one.”
The 2021 film lightly hinted at Kano’s resurrection. Death is only another portal, said the antagonist, Shang Tsung, played by Chin Han. With Kano’s return confirmed, this sentence adds relevance, suggesting that Shang Tsung, famed for his soul-controlling abilities and resurrection, may play a significant part.
The original film depicted Kano’s journey as one of betrayal and warfare.

John Lawson, who played Kano in the 2021 Mortal Kombat film, has teased the character's return in the anticipated sequel, Mortal Kombat 2. Following the success of the 2021 film, which grossed $84 million worldwide against a $55 million budget and became HBO Max's most successful film launch at the time, Mortal Kombat 2 promises to expand on the story and bring back fan-favorite characters, some in unexpected ways. Despite meeting a grim fate in the first movie, Kano will return for another round, this time with what Lawson describes as a "2.0" version of his character.
In a recent conversation with The Direct, Lawson teased the future of Kano. Even though the character started as a good guy in 2021's Mortal Kombat, he later turned against Earthrealm after being offered an awful lot of money, which led him to his demise at the hands of Jessica McNamee's Sonya. Mortal Kombat star Josh Lawson has teased a new version of his character in the eagerly anticipated sequel, asking fans to brace themselves for "Kano 2.0." Mortal Kombat 2, featuring new and returning characters, will hit theaters on October 24, 2025.
Lawson endeared himself to fans in the first film, playing the charismatic rogue and leader of the Black Dragon criminal organization. Kano initially begins Mortal Kombat as one of Earth's defenders before betraying his comrades at the behest of the Outworld sorcerer Shang Tsung and the speedster Kabal. He meets his end when Sonya Blade stabs him in the eye with a garden gnome. The character will, however, return in the sequel, and Lawson told The Direct what audiences can expect from the character in the film. "I can say that in the second Mortal Kombat, Kano has a new chapter in his life, that [chapter] being death," the actor teased.

Speaking with The Direct, Lawson took a moment to hype up his character’s return, saying viewers should prepare themselves for Kano 2.0.

Mortal Kombat director Simon McQuoid is back at the helm for the sequel Mortal Kombat 2, and while the video game adaptation wrapped production back in January after a bumpy ride through the year of the strikes, they had to go back for some reshoots this past summer. So we still don’t know when this movie is going to be released – but it shouldn’t be much longer before we’re hearing release date news, because the Motion Picture Association ratings board has seen the movie and given it a rating! Mortal Kombat 2 has been rated R for strong bloody violence and gore, and language. The previous movie was rated R for strong bloody violence and language throughout, and some crude references.

Get ready to see some seriously bloody and brutal fatalities on the big screen, as the highly anticipated video game adaptation sequel, Mortal Kombat 2, has now been given the rating that fans wanted to see. The Mortal Kombat follow-up has now officially been rated R by the MPA thanks to its (no doubt copious) amounts of strong bloody violence and gore, and language. This suggests that Mortal Kombat 2 will pip its predecessor to the post, as the first outing was also R-rated, but only for strong bloody violence and language throughout, and some crude references. So, bring on the gore!
Set to be directed once again by Simon McQuoid from a script written by Moon Knights Jeremy Slater, Mortal Kombat 2 will pick up with the once washed-up mixed martial arts fighter Cole Young as he and a band of other fighters must battle to defend Earthrealm against Outworld.

Netflix's hotly anticipated live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender finally arrived in February 2024, and now it has been renewed for a second season. Based on the cartoon series of the same name, Avatar: The Last Airbender follows a boy named Aang who is the Avatar, the prophesized one who must master the four elements to defeat the Fire Nation and save the world. The original animated series from 2005 is one of the most beloved shows of the aughts, and Netflix's adaptation had tremendous shoes to fill, especially in the wake of the failed 2010 movie.
Perhaps one of the most hyped Netflix original series of all time, Avatar: The Last Airbender debuted to middling reviews. Though the visuals of the series have been praised by nearly every major critic, outlets like Variety called it "a beautifully crafted disappointment". There are two storylines at the center of Stanley Kwan‘s labyrinthine “Center Stage” (1991). The main one follows the life of Ruan Lingyu, a real-life actress who was perhaps China’s most celebrated film performer in the early 1930s. Ruan arguably became even more of a legend when she committed suicide at age 24, as her private life became the scandalmongering subject of tabloid gossip. The second storyline is set in 1991 and follows a film crew (shot in black and white) making a biopic about Ruan. They discuss her life, interview some of the surviving film crews who knew her (it sometimes feels like a documentary of Kwan documenting his own filmmaking), and eventually recreate Ruan’s life on their own soundstage.
Center Stage is screening at Five Flavours
Archival footage of the actual Ruan Lingyu in some of her extant films allows audiences to connect and compare the two eras and narrative levels.

It has begun. We have our first look at Mortal Kombat 2, straight from one of the creators. According to a report by ComicBook, Ed Boon has provided fans with the first look at the upcoming sequel to the hit 2021 live-action adaptation of the classic video game. The image, shared to Boon's social media, provides a partial glimpse of Princess Kitana, one of the fan-favorite core characters from the game, who makes her debut in the sequel.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) Boon claimed to have taken the picture from producer Todd Garner's phone, during a screening of the rough cut of the film. Boon also jokingly referenced the scores of video game leaks he has had to endure over the years, saying "I can leak stuff too."

We're still waiting (and probably will be for a while longer) on a first look at some footage from Warner Bros./New Line's Mortal Kombat 2, but producer and co-creator of the iconic video game series, Ed Boon, has now taken to social media to share a teasing glimpse of one of the new characters who'll be debuting in the sequel, Kitana.
Her face is kept hidden, but we do get a look at the fan-favorite fighter's signature weapon and costume. Kitana will be played by Chilling Adventures of Sabrina actress Adeline Rudolph.
The Netflix series marked Rudolph's screen debut, but the Hong Kong-born model-turned-actress has also appeared in the CW’s Riverdale and Netflix’s Resident Evil series. She is also set to play the female lead in Millennium’s Hellboy: The Crooked Man.
Boon also revealed that he has seen an unfinished cut of the movie.

The upcoming sequel Mortal Kombat 2 will include one of the most crucial parts of the video game on which its based - a part that was noticeably and oddly missing from the first movie - the Mortal Kombat tournament. While you would think that it would be difficult to make a Mortal Kombat movie without the actual titular tournament, this was achieved in 2021, but returning star Lewis Tan has now confirmed the follow-up will have a tournament as well as being 100 times better in the second movie based on what we learned from the first.
Mortal Kombat 2 will pick up with the once washed-up mixed martial arts fighter Cole Young as he and a band of other fighters must battle to defend Earthrealm against Outworld. Not much else is yet known about the plot, but Tan has now revealed to Collider that the sequel will be more ramped...

2021's Mortal Kombat movie is getting a sequel in 2025, and according to one star of the first movie, the second installment will be "100 times better." It was hinted that the gripes that fans had with the original have been addressed and rectified with the sequel.
In the 2021 movie, Lewis Tan played Cole Young, an original character thrust into the world of Mortal Kombat. While many familiar characters from the video games were featured, one common complaint with fans is that there wasn't a Mortal Kombat-style tournament in the movie, making it feel like something was missing. Speaking about the sequel with Collider, Tan confirmed that there is a tournament fans can anticipate in Mortal Kombat 2. While he couldn't get any more specific, he further explained that the filmmakers learned from the feedback given to the 2021 film.
