Everything gets a sequel now: big tentpole event films, popular TV shows, and low-rent horror films. Especially low-rent horror films. After the break you'll find: The latest minor rumblings on J.J. Abrams' sequel to Star Trek, Word on a new version, a 'requel' if you will, of Killer Klowns From Outer Space, Assurance that Piranha 3Dd isn't getting dumped on video in the Us, Turtle's comments about an Entourage movie, and the first image of Jemaine Clement in Men in Black III. At this point, we know very little about what J.J. Abrams, Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof have cooked up for the sequel to Star Trek. It seems like the production wants a Latin actor for the bad guy, who may or may not be Khan or another character from the classic Trek TV series. We've heard that no further actors from the classic crew setup will show their faces,...

If you’ve been keeping up to date with the Star Trek movie tie-in comics you may already know that production of the comics is overseen by Roberto Orci, co-writer and producer of J.J. Abrams’ 2009 reboot. With Orci’s help the comics have been outlining the adventures that occur between the end of the first movie and the beginning of the forthcoming sequel, as well as laying the groundwork for what we can expect to see in the next movie. Mike Johnson, writer of the Star Trek comics, has revealed that he and Orci have been subtly planting clues about what we can expect in Star Trek 2. In the latest issue of the magazine, Johnson has said: One of the great things about working with Bob [Orci] is that we are able to use the ongoing series to very subtly lay in clues to the next movie. There might even...

Paramount Pictures has always liked incorporating comic books into the gap between Star Trek films (especially in the 1980s). And now it could be doing it again as the studio begins prep and filming of the much-anticipated "Star Trek 2." A new comic book series from writer Mike Johnson and '"Star Trek 2" scribe Roberto Orci not only retells some classic "Star Trek" stories with a reboot universe twist, but it also contains fleeting clues to the upcoming film, set to be released in 2013. "One of the great things about working with Bob is that we are able to use the ongoing series to very subtly lay in clues to the next movie," Johnson recently told Star Trek Magazine. "There might even be a tiny hint of a subplot in the first issue." What that hint is really is anyone's guess. TrekMovie ...

Washington state authorities are investigating a possible link between the disappearance of 2-year-old Sky Metalwala and the popular TV show "Law & Order: Svu."
Investigators say Sky's mother, Julia Biryukova, may have taken a page from an episode of the crime drama -- an episode that actually aired the day before Sky disappeared. In it, a woman in the midst of a divorce claimed she left her young son strapped in the backseat of her car when she went in a store to buy diapers. When she came out, the car and her son were gone.
The fictional Halloween kidnapping case ends when police connect the parents to the child's disappearance and recover his remains on a remote beach.
Police in Bellevue know about the possible connection and said they are investigating.

Being in my late twenties, I wasn’t around for the start of the Star Trek phenomenon, but thankfully when The Next Generation started I was able to jump on to the band wagon and hang on for dear life. It was my first taste of Star Trek, and one that will always hold a special place in my heart. Sure, there was a time I held up Deep Space Nine as the pinnacle of the Trek franchise, but I never forgot my love of Tng.
It was the stories the series spun that got me the most. From Data, impersonating Sherlock Holmes, matching wits with a holographic Professor Moriarty to the omnipotent Q, stripped of his powers, trying to get his head around the concept of sleep, the series enthralled the barely decade old me, and continues to do so to this very day whenever I catch an old episode on the T.

One of the more anticipated events for fans of DC's royal family at this year's New York Comic Con was, of course, the Superman panel.
Kicking things off was talk of the highly anticipated, and much delayed, Superman: Earth One Volume 2.
Series artist Shane Davis was on hand - as were fellow red, yellow and blue creators Mike Johnson, Mahmud Asrar and Dan Jurgens - to tell us about the follow-up to his and J. Michael Straczynski's bestselling graphic novel.
"It's going to pick up exactly where Superman's been in the world and how the world views Superman. What damage could he do? Where does his jurisdiction begin and end?" said the artist.
Davis also confirmed that the second volume would delve more deeply into the man of steel's love life echoing Jms's previous comments: "Instead of romance and adventure, we're going to try a little sex and violence.

Roberto Orci and Mike Johnson are teaming up for an upcoming Star Trek comic book. The comic book will feature several retooled stories from the Original Series episodes, but will, and here's the tease, possibly feature new characters and villains that will appear in the movie. The pair are said to be using the comic book as a precursor to the upcoming sequel which will, apparently, start shooting very soon. While there's no news as of yet, I'd expect the villain to be revealed in the coming weeks. But as this is a J.J. Abrams film, I suppose there's the possibility that we might not find out until we take our seats in cinemas in 2012. What say you readers? Excited for Star Trek 2?...

We're getting closer and closer to "Star Trek 2" actually shooting. While the shoot and the storyline will undoubtedly be shrouded in intense J.J. Abrams secrecy, we will get an early peek into just what Abrams, Roberto Orci, and Alex Kurtzman have planned thanks to the Idw "Star Trek" series. Orci and Idw's Mike Johnson talked to StarTrek.com about the upcoming series, and how it will lead into "Star Trek 2." They did this before in 2009 with "Star Trek: Countdown" which gave more insight into the film's villain, Nero, and his encounter with Spock that changed the course of "Trek" history. They're continuing that theme, only now Idw is tweaking existing "Star Trek" episodes and retelling the stories in ways that fit this new timeline and new universe."The first few issues of the series are adaptations of Tos episodes, as the “new” crew encounters some of the same threats the original crew did,...

With the sequel to J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" reboot getting ready for a shoot early next year, one of the film's co-writers Roberto Orci recently confirmed they're currently scouting locations in preparation. So what? Well there's been talk that this sequel will jump ahead a few years in time, so the crew will have been serving together for a while. Orci's been giving notes to the comic writers with a few details about the upcoming sequel, meaning the issues themselves will be used to lay some of the ground work for the film.

J.J. Abrams is once again at the helm as Star Trek 2 comes closer to becoming reality, with cast and crew in place, and possible filming locations being scouted. Wondering what the new voyages of the Starship Enterprise have in store for us? The new comic book series might hold the clues.
Not only did Abrams manage to re-launch the popular Star Trek franchise on the big screen, but the adventures of Captain Kirk and crew are also continuing in the world of comic books with Idw Publishing’s new Star Trek series.
Mike Johnson, who wrote the first issue (Star Trek #1: “Where No Man Has Gone Before”), shared a little bit about what’s in store for comic fans, as well as how the comics might introduce new characters for the movie.

Channel 4 gave J.J. Abrams’ rather genius reboot of the Star Trek franchise it’s national UK television premiere last night and I once again found myself caught up in the alternative universe he and writers Damon Lindelof, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman dreamed up. I can’t wait to see more adventures with this cast and for the new Trek high council to boldly take us where no Star Trek film has before (please note what I said there… I’m not too keen on seeing anything repeated from the previous canon. It’s new villains/new stories from here, please. i.e. no Khan, no Borg, no shoe-horned in cameo from William Shatner, etc). Original stories is the order of the day!

A couple of small snippets about the sequel to the Star Trek reboot have popped up. And we've got them right here...
It’s been a couple of weeks now since Jj Abrams was finally confirmed as the director of the sequel to his Star Trek reboot. And, coupled with that news was the suggestion that the film might just be heading into production this side of Christmas.
We've still go no official dates for the film, though. So we couldn't tell you when filming actually begins, or what the current release date is likely to be (it's looking like summer 2013, though).
Still, according to a new interview with co-writer Roberto Orci, over at the official Star Trek website, things are ticking along. Orci is also the creative director of some new Star Trek comic books, too, which have some relevance to what we can expect to see on the big screen,...

Now that J.J. Abrams is officially on board [1] and we've given up seeing the film next Summer, we can all settle in and watch Star Trek 2 get made the right way. The latest update comes from one of the film's screenwriters, Roberto Orci, who also happens to be the creative director on a new set of comic books set in the world created by the original 2009 film. Speaking about those, Orci revealed location scouting is underway on the film and said the comic books would begin give fans hints about the movie. Read more after the jump. In the latest of our comprehensive series of reviews of DC Comics' 52 relaunched titles, we take a look at Supergirl #1. Who's it by?
Supergirl #1 is written by Michael Green and Mike Johnson (Superman/Batman) and drawn by Mahmud Asrar (Adventure Comics). What's the history?
Superman's cousin Kara Zor-El was first introduced in 1959's Action Comics #252 by Otto Binder and Curt Swan. The teenage survivor of the Kryptonian Argo City arrived on Earth years after Clark Kent and adopted the secret identity of 'Linda Lee'. The character proved very popular upon her introduction, but by the continuity-changing Crisis on Infinite Earths it was decided that Superman needed to live as a lone Kryptonian on Earth again. This led to Kara's famous death at the hands of the Anti-Monitor. Various (more)...

She doesn't know this universe, and we're right there with her in her head, in her Pov, as she discovers this new Dcu. In her mind, she was on Krypton yesterday. She's really the only character in this new universe who has that perspective where for her, in her mind, this is a backward world that she suddenly woke up in." Adds Green: "Superman got to grow up here and feel like he was a human and slowly discover that he was different, whereas for her, waking up on Earth is a massive disruption in the life she expected — and wanted — for herself. Now it's a question of having to learn to make a new life here. She has...

Once again, a look into the future, with some very interesting looks at the past, including the reprinting of a comic that was never released in America in the first place, the infamous Elseworlds 80 Page Giant that was pulped because of concerns about Superman’s babysitter.
And of course, a whole lot of #3 issues, which is traditionally the issue where Spider-Man guest stars.
Shall we? Surely!
As usual, spoilers may lurk beyond this point.

Thanks to Newsarama, we have the following highlights from the "DC: Superman" panel at the San Diego Comic Con. Be sure to click the link below to head on over to the site for even more details about the upcoming change in status quo for the Superman family of titles. On the Superman panel: Superman group editor Matt Idelson, Action Comics writer Grant Morrison, Superboy writer Scott Lobdell, Superman: Earth One writer J. Michael Straczynski, Supergirl co-writer Mike Johnson. Morrison on Action Comics: "He doesn't know much about his Kryptonian heritage. The idea is to do a younger, more accessible Superman." Morrison said that he wanted a more realistic take on how he started wearing his costume, saying that no 17-year-old would want to wear a "romper suit" that his mother knitted for him. Idelson says Superman, taking place in the present day, will have a supporting cast with a "five-year backstory.

James Kirk (William Shatner) attempts to defeat an increasingly powerful Gary Mitchell (Gary Lockwood) in Star Trek's second pilot episode, "Where No Man Has Gone Before" (1966).
What follows is some fascinating news that could hint at a possible direction for Jj Abrams’ forthcoming sequel to 2009′s Star Trek. And it involves a character previously speculated upon.
Idw Publishing and CBS Consumer Products have announced a brand-new ongoing comic book series, based upon Jj Abram’s rebooted Star Trek universe. Teaming with the film’s writer/producer Roberto Orci, the new monthly series will tie into both the 2009 film and the upcoming untitled sequel.
“Movies cost money. Lots and lots of money,” says Orci remarked, “But comics give us unlimited budgets to take the crew of the Enterprise farther than they’ve ever been. Join us!”

I know I'm not alone in being impressed by the recent "Star Trek" movie that effectively rebooted the science-fiction franchise for a younger generation. Sadly, we might have to wait a while for the "Star Trek" sequel, but it looks like there will be ample opportunity for fans of both the original series and the new, alternate timeline to get their fix of adventures with the crew of The Enterprise.
Idw Publishing announced plans today for a new series of "Star Trek" comics shepherded by the writer and producer of the 2009 film, Roberto Orci. According to the press release, "Star Trek" #1 will hit shelves in September, and feature stories from the original series re-imagined with the new crew.
Orci will oversee the ongoing series, with writer Mike Johnson and artist Stephen Molnar handling the individual issues.

Here it is. The full 52 titles that DC Will debut at the end of the summer. There are a lot of exciting new beginnings for old favorites like Swamp Thing and Sgt. Rock, and the whole lineup is chock full of some of the greatest names in the business. I’m a little disappointed that DC burned 11 of its new titles on the Bat-family alone. That seems a little bit of a waste. Especially since 4 of those titles actually feature Bruce Wayne/Batman in them. I love Bats as much as the next guy, but 4 titles? Really? I thought the whole renumbering was supposed to fix things like that.
In any event, here are the 52. I’m pretty excited all around. Let me hear your thoughts in the comments below.

Philadelphia — More than seven decades after Superman made his debut in "Action Comics," DC said Friday the long-running title will restart at No. 1 in September with the Man of Steel sporting a full-blue suit sans his long-standing red trunks.
The publisher's announcement, first reported by the Los Angeles Times on its website, also included details on new titles for Supergirl and Superboy, too, as well as a solo Superman series that will be written by George Perez and drawn by Jesus Merino.
The cover to "Superman" No. 1 shows the hero in a blue suit, red boots and cape and large "S" on his chest.
Perez reinvigorated Wonder Woman during a five-year run in the 1980s for DC. He also guided "The New Teen Titans" to success with writer Marv Wolfman. In 1985, he illustrated the company's mammoth "Crisis On Infinite Earths" maxi-series that restructured the DC Universe.

ScriptShadow has a review of the screenplay for Mute, the sci-fi noir project that Moon director Duncan Jones has been developing with Mike Johnson for the last few years. You may recall that Jones recently signed on to direct Source Code, with Jake Gyllenhaal attached to star. Jones had commented on Twitter that he decided to put Mute on hold because he got an offer he couldn't refuse, and that Mute is a "hard sell" in this economy. And now we know more. Mute is one of those personal projects that probably won’t appeal to anyone outside a tiny niche audience. It appears that Jones knows this, and is perfectly okay with it. “Moon” was never going to light up the box office either, yet it already has a rabid fanbase. The question is, does Mute satisfy on any level? Man, that's a really hard question to answer. What...

Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic detective is getting the Hollywood treatment. Guy Ritchie is bringing his unique style to Sherlock Holmes this Christmas with a cast worthy of its subject. Robert Downey Jr. is starring, along with Jude Law, Rachel McAdams, and Mark Strong. Plus Brad Pitt has been rumored for a pretty exciting cameo that has people talking already. But before Holmes’ reinvention on screen, I thought we’d take a look at an early draft of the screenplay from screenwriter Mike Johnson and comic book scribe/producer Lionel Wigram.
It’s obvious from the trailer this isn’t the traditional version of the characters where two stuffy Brits label things as “dreadful” or “delightful” while sucking on the tip of a corncob pipe. Duncan Jones is working to fund his followup to the excellent “Moon” and is apparently having some difficulties. The film is called “Mute” and was c0-written with Duncan by Mike Johnson, the writer of the upcoming Sherlock Holmes. Mr. Jones plans some juicy ode to Blade Runner vibrations in “Mute”, a story about a mute bartender in future Berlin! that goes in search of his missing girlfriend. Duncan is philosophic about the whole money thing. He believes that anything worth having requires a difficult process and he’s bang on with that. The Age has a nice interview up with Duncan where he talks about the difficulties in getting an intelligent Sci-Fi movie made. Duncan wants to spend about 5 times the money on “Mute” that he spent on “Moon”. Also in the interview but not elaborated on was Jones’ “eye on” William Gibson’s Neuromancer, a book near and...

He made one of the best sci-fi movies of 2009, and quite possibly the past few years, and now Duncan Jones is saying that he's running into brick walls as he chases down financing for his next project, a Blade Runner inspired sci-fi film set in Berlin called Mute. In an interview with Australia's The Age, Jones admitted that the project -- which will require a much larger budget than the simple, but simply beautiful Moon -- is "mired in financing difficulties." According to the report, he's still quite optimistic about the situation, saying that "every problem is proof that we're planning a movie very different from the norm." I don't know about all of you, but I hope that Jones finds himself a financier soon, and I'm almost sure that he will. He didn't make it rain with Moon, but did succeed in making an efficient, moderately budgeted film that fought through limited release hell to make...

Ever since seeing Duncan Jones' indie feature directorial debut Moon, I've been waiting to see what he would do next, when he has a bigger budget and more resources. And we've been closely following every little detail of Jones' next, a sci-fi thriller Mute, which has often been compared to Ridley Scott's Blade Runner. Now Duncan has told The Age that Mute is "mired in financing difficulties," although the piece says that Jones is "sanguine about events." He believes that if there weren't difficulties getting it made, then he must have got something wrong. ''Every problem,'' he points out like a scientist happily positing a theorem, ''is proof that we're planning a movie very different from the norm.'' Co-written with Mike Johnson (Sherlock Holmes), the story follows a mute bartender looking for his abducted girlfriend in a future Berlin. The villains of the piece are a creepy comedy double act.

That image up there is the first bit of concept art for "Moon" director Duncan Jones' sophomore effort, "Mute." Very little is known about the project, other than the fact that it is set in a futuristic Berlin and that it follows a mute bartender as he searches for his missing lady. "Moon" was easily one of the most inventive science fiction efforts of the decade, right alongside Neill Blomkamp's "District 9," so Jones could be doing something about an international cabal of baby assassins and I'd still be interested.
The website where the image appeared, Liberty Films, also lists Jones and Mike Johnson ("Sherlock Holmes") as the writers. The shoot is set to get underway in early 2010.
You can see in the image a sign that reads "Femde," the German word for stranger/alien. The entire sign actually reads "Femde Traume," which is German for "Foreign Dreams.

Duncan Jones made one hell of a splash this summer with his indie sci-fi picture Moon. Now he's got us all wondering exactly what's coming next. Rumblings have come from Jones himself about several projects, but our friends at SlashFilm pointed us in the direction of some fresh new concept art that has shown up on the Liberty Films (Jones' production company) official website which highlights a project in development called Mute (we last talked about it here). The single piece of art paints the picture of a Blade Runner-esque future with the dark tones of a film noir. Upon closer inspection there are certainly some interesting details. Under the concept art a caption can be found with a bit more detail about the project: In Development. Writers: Duncan Jones (Moon) and Mike Johnson (Sherlock Holmes). Director: Duncan Jones.
