Compared to other superhero franchises, The Dark Knight trilogy features a disproportionate number of villains. A few of the standout antagonists in The Dark Knight Rises are Tom Hardy as Bane, Cillian Murphy as Jonathan Crane, and Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent.
Jonathan Nolan, who co-wrote the screenplays for The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises with his brother Christopher Nolan, the director, recently claimed that another villain who was never seen in a movie was supposed to make an appearance.

During an interview with Happy Sad Confused, the Person of Interest creator, 47, talked about the antagonists in the seventh-highest-grossing film before focusing on Bane (Tom Hardy). Nolan talked about exploring “ideas about the Riddler”.

With Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan and Cillian Murphy marked their sixth collaboration. Celebrating the biggest movie of Murphy’s career as a lead, the movie secured 13 Oscar nods. However, there is still a void in their collaboration and Murphy has not shied away from pouting about it.
Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer in Oppenheimer
Fans may believe that the unavoidable bond between Murphy and Nolan has been the longest and everlasting, of course, it is but the Irish actor still has a complaint. Murphy was opted out of the cast of one of Nolan’s sci-fi epics that redefined the space narrative and is considered one of the best since Stanley Kubrick’s sci-fi epic 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Cillian Murphy is everything an exceptional person can be: a talented actor, a dedicated family man, and a philanthropist, but one thing he could not be, according to Oppenheimer co-star Matt Damon, is a great dinner companion.
Cillian Murphy in Oppenheimer
It’s no secret that the Peaky Blinders actor devoted so much time and energy preparing for his role as J. Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb. From learning to speak Dutch to shrinking his body frame to capture the character’s physicality, there was no room for happy hour.

“Titans” is adding another Robin for its upcoming third season.
Jay Lycurgo will recur on the now-hbo Max series as Tim Drake, who comics fans know to become the third iteration of Batman’s sidekick.
Lycurgo joins Curran Walters’ Jason Todd and Brendan Thwaites’ Dick Grayson on the series, each of whom has taken the mantle of the Boy Wonder. “Titans” sees Grayson after he left The Dark Knight’s side and has since become the hero Nightwing, while Walters’ Todd takes over the moniker of the anti-hero Red Hood this season.
Here is how Warner Bros. describes Drake: A streetwise kid who’s managed to grow up on the toughest streets without losing his indelible belief in heroism. His easy-going demeanor is backed up by a near-genius mind, a natural detective with a perception of detail far beyond his years.

“Titans” has found its Barbara Gordon in Savannah Welch.
In the now-hbo Max series, Gordon is the Gotham City police commissioner and long past her days as Batgirl. Although she has a past relationship with Dick Grayson (Brendan Thwaites), she is wary of the Titans now being in Gotham. Alicia Silverstone played a loosely based version of the character in Joel Schumacher’s “Batman & Robin.”
Curran Walters, who plays Jason Todd (aka the second Robin after Dick Grayson) will don the new Red Hood identity in the coming season, which will primarily be set in Gotham City. Additionally, “Titans” is adding Dr. Jonathan Crane, known best by his villainous alter ego, Scarecrow, who induces his enemies with a fear-based toxin. Scoob! may have rebooted Mystery Inc. in a big-budget CGI way earlier this year, but the regular animated adventures of the ghost-busting teens aren’t going anywhere. This fall, Warner Bros. Syfy Wire exclusively unveiled the trailer, which teases a team-up with another spooky icon, Elvira, Mistress of Darkness (Aka Cassandra Peterson). Scooby, Shaggy and the gang will work with Elvira to discover the truth behind a bunch of jack-o-lantern monsters. Today, June 16th, marks 15 years to the day since Batman Begins first hit theaters. Back in 2005, the Caped Crusader’s cinematic legacy seemed permanently tarnished after 1997’s Batman & Robin, but Christopher Nolan managed to reinvent the Batman for a brand new generation with his first installment in what would become the Dark Knight trilogy. Audiences were wowed by the most mature take on Bruce Wayne they’d ever seen. And they still are today.
In honor of its anniversary, DC fans have flocked to social media to celebrate what’s not just the opening installment of an amazing trilogy but one of the best superhero movies of all time.

After a lackluster episode last week, Batwoman returned this week with possibly the best episode all season. A villain is killed off, Kate crosses the one line that Batman never did, and we learn why Alice is Alice.
Batwoman is hand-delivered a captured Doctor Cartwright with a note stuffed in his mouth stating, “Ask about mommy dearest”. Kate proceeds to take Cartwright back to the private section of her club, The Hold Up, and calls on her father, Jacob, to help interrogate the good doctor. Jacob is then caught up to speed on a few things: His daughter Alice is actually alive, and Cartwright is a master manipulator and a villain the Crows should have devoted their time to investigating instead of chasing Batwoman.

A Quiet Place was a massive success story at the box office in 2018. The movie was directed by John Krasinski, who also co-wrote it with Bryan Woods and Scott Beck. So it is with great fanfare that Krasinski returned as both the writer and director for the sequel, aptly titled A Quiet Place Part II.
A lot of elements in A Quiet Place remain unexplored, like the origin of the creatures, how much of the rest of the Earth is affected by them, and how even our central family managed to escape to a farm. All of which could, and even appears likely to, form the basis of a second movie.
So where do we go from here? We’ll have to wait a bit to find out due to the latest bit of news…

To say that Gotham has utilized a healthy amount of Batman’s rogues gallery is an understatement. Heck, we’ve seen everyone from the Penguin and the Riddler to Professor Pyg and Flamingo throughout the course of its four seasons. But, as is to be expected, it’s the ones who are more well known among the mainstream that most often put in recurring appearances.
So, while we bide our time waiting for the return of Cameron Monaghan as Jerome Valeska, the proto-Joker, we’ve learned that none other than the Scarecrow will again be wreaking havoc later this season. In fact, a recent breakdown unearthed by That Hashtag Show not only tells us exactly when he’ll come back, but forces us to believe that a recasting could be on the agenda:

Gotham is enjoying a terrific run at the moment. With Bruce Wayne stepping up to become a vigilante and more of the villains coming out of the woodwork – like Jonathan Crane’s Scarecrow – it’s thrilling to see the legendary Batman mythos slowly begin to form. Let’s hope the quality continues in the fourth episode of season 4, titled “The Demon’s Head.”
Yes, as the title indicates, Alexander Siddig’s Ra’s al Ghul is back in Bruce Wayne’s hometown to put a new evil scheme into action. This time it revolves around a mystical ancient knife that David Mazouz’s teen billionaire discovers. In the promo for the episode up above, we see the sought-after dagger catching the attention of everyone from Jim Gordon to Barbara Kean. Like the ominous voiceover says: “All tremble before the Demon’s head.”

On this episode of Gotham, titled "A Dark Knight: The Fear Reaper," Gordon is forced to go after Scarecrow alone after Penguin calls out the Gotham City Police Department (Gcpd), Barbara Kean returns with an offer for Selina and Tabitha and Mr. Fox aids in Bruce's transformation into Batman.
So, Jonathan Crane has officially embraced his "Scarecrow" persona, giving Jim Gordon and the Gcpd one more eccentric villain to take down. Thanks to a tip from Merton, Gordon and Bullock head to the former Crane residence only to find it empty. They also discover that there's a whole new batch of the fear toxin in circulation. Gordon spots something in the backyard, and it's Grady dressed as a scarecrow, and he warns them the actual Scarecrow is coming.

At the end of Gotham‘s season 4 premiere, we got our first glimpse at the latest supervillain to terrorize Bruce Wayne’s home town. Following on from his introduction back in season 1, Dr. Jonathan Crane has finally suited up as famed Batman foe the Scarecrow. In episode two, suitably titled “The Fear Reaper,” Scarecrow will begin to make his mark on Fox’s prequel show. And, thanks to this new batch of images from the episode, we have our best look at the psychotic psychologist yet.
Gotham‘s Scarecrow draws a lot from the character’s modern look in the comics as well as the Arkham video games. The classic sack-like mask is in check as are the rotten, baggy clothes. The costume becomes slightly more ambitious though with thick piping twisting around him, which presumably feed into Crane’s gas mask and also spray out his patented fear toxin...

After turning in an impressive season premiere last Thursday night, the cast and crew of Gotham look to keep the ball rolling with next week’s episode, “A Dark Knight: The Fear Reaper.” From that foreboding title, you can probably surmise that the Scarecrow will play a huge role, no doubt confounding Jim Gordon and the rest of the Gcpd at every turn.
Also deserving your attention is another detailed look at Bruce Wayne’s proto-Batman costume, which will apparently make its debut in the very same episode. Much like in Batman Begins, the burgeoning vigilante gets his threads and tech from Lucius Fox, only this time we have Chris Chalk in place of Morgan Freeman. Had you tuned in last night, then you’d have seen Charlie Tahan return as a young Jonathan Crane, effectively reprising his role from season 1. This review is based on the season premiere.
From the start, a common complaint about Gotham has been that it’s “a Batman show without Batman.” And even as a supporter of the series, I have to admit that position is warranted. But now, we’ve made a huge leap forward, putting it in similar territory to Smallville seasons 8-10 – which I referred to as “the proto-Superman years” – because, like it or not, we’ve now entered the proto-Batman era, baby.
With that, I’m not going to waste time addressing the elephant in the room: The fact that Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) is already putting on a mask and dispensing vigilante justice three years after his parents were gunned down. I firmly believe the producers have decided to allow him to split some wigs because not only are the amount of stories you can tell involving young Bruce extremely limited,...

Gotham returns to Fox for its fourth season tomorrow night and from what we’ve heard, this new run is set to be the most thrilling yet, as it’ll push its ensemble cast of heroes and villains ever closer to where we know they must end up, as per the Batman comics universe. For instance, Bruce Wayne is set to step up and begin operating as a masked vigilante for the first time – albeit sans bat-ears.
Speaking of Gotham‘s eclectic ensemble, a new photo of the cast has dropped online today and it gives us another look at two fresh additions to the show’s line-up. Namely, Crystal Reed’s Sofia Falcone and Alexander Siddig as Ra’s Al-Ghul. Now that the season premiere of Gotham is so close we can taste it, Fox is rolling out generous teasers by the day. Just yesterday, we were treated to an oversized trailer for the show’s fourth year and, now, a couple sneak peeks have found their way online to whet our appetites.
In the first clip, the camera is focused squarely on a “License of Misconduct” card, something we’ll discuss further in a moment. But mainly, this particular video centers on Bruce Wayne and Alfred Pennyworth, the former of whom is obviously taking his first major strides toward becoming Batman.
From what we can gather, this scene takes place not long after Bruce puts on a mask for the first time, seemingly preparing for the inevitable return of Ra’s al Ghul. But to Alfred’s chagrin, the burgeoning vigilante has designs on multitasking, also willing to focus...

If there’s one advantage that Gotham has over its DC TV brethren at The CW, it’s that it’ll commence its next season several weeks before the others do. Having said that, it’s only expected that synopses surface, each providing even more clues as to what we can expect from the next leg of Bruce Wayne’s journey toward becoming Batman.
First, on Thursday, September 21, we have the season 4 premiere that’s peculiarly titled “Pax Penguina.” From that, we can obviously infer that the deadly rivalry involving the Penguin and the Riddler that began in season 3 will spill over here, but it appears that the Scarecrow and Ra’s al Ghul may steal the show. And seeing as how Alexander Siddig, who is reprising his role as the Demon’s Head, is now a series regular, that’s a very real possibility.

The latest promo for Gotham‘s upcoming fourth season is here. Building on the exciting teases we’ve already seen, this one features Bruce Wayne dipping his toes into vigilantism for the first time in addition to checking in on the various criminals operating around town, and giving us a glimpse of a new villain who’s set to strike fear into the hearts of the Gotham’s citizens.
The video begins with a reminder about what happened at the end of season 3, with Poison Ivy unveiling the Riddler trapped in a block of ice of Mr Freeze’s making. In the absence of his spurned crush, the Penguin has risen to the top of Gotham’s underworld. Throughout the trailer, we also get glimpses of other familiar foes like Barbara Kean, Ra’s al Ghul and some guy who looks a lot like the Joker.

Saying a lot happened this past season on Gotham is a massive understatement. Still, those who cut the trailer shown today at San Diego Comic-Con did their best to sum it up. Throughout the sizzle reel, we got to relive some of the finer points such as the rise of the Riddler, the return of Jerome Valeska and Bruce Wayne taking his first great strides toward becoming Batman.
On that note, it very much sounds like we can expect to see David Mazouz’s take on the timeless icon to continue dispensing street justice throughout the alleys of his home city in the coming year. There’s just one catch, however: Don’t expect him to take up cape and cowl anytime soon, something executive producer John Stephens touched on during the panel:
“In season four Bruce will have body armour, and have grappling hooks, and wear a mask, but he wont be Batman.

Now, another star of the prequel series has hinted that we might see a different important figure of the Dark Knight’s mythos arrive on the show at some point.
Speaking at the Heroes & Villains Fan Fest in Nashville, Sean Pertwee – who plays Bruce’s loyal butler Alfred Pennyworth – discussed the possibility of future Boy Wonder Dick Grayson turning up on Gotham. He didn’t outright confirm anything, but rather reminded audiences that Dick’s parents, Mary Lloyd and John Grayson, have already been introduced in the season 1 episode “The Blind Fortune Teller.”

Josh Hartnett was apparently down to the last three to play Batman in Batman Begins. So why did he pass on the chance?
Back when Christopher Nolan was putting together his cast for 2005’s Batman Begins, the shortlist for the new Dark Knight was apparently whittled down to three names. Christian Bale was one of them, of course, and he would eventually take the role, playing Batman across a trilogy of films. Cillian Murphy was in the running too, and he would instead take the role of Dr Jonathan Crane in the movies.
And then there was Josh Hartnett, who in his career has also been linked with, and apparently passed on, playing Spider-Man and Superman.
He passed, too, on the idea of playing Batman, but in a new interview, he concedes that he has a regret there.

Now that the third season of Gotham will have concluded in a matter of hours, it certainly doesn’t hurt to look forward by pondering which iconic villains will be the next to make the jump to the Batman prequel series. To date, we’ve seen such beloved baddies as Penguin, Riddler and Mr. Freeze fully embrace their destinies, so it stands to reason that a few more will follow suit before the show takes its final bow.

Another day and another round of DC Extended Universe rumors. Last week, Justice League found itself in the spotlight and this time, it’s Matt Reeves’ The Batman which is being placed under the microscope.
The beginning of 2017 saw the project go through quite a bit of trouble, with Ben Affleck departing the director’s chair and then Reeves doing the same, before eventually returning. For now, at least, the film seems to be out of the woods and as it inches closer to production, more and more plot details are beginning to surface. Admittedly, it’ll probably still be quite a while before we hear anything official, as Reeves is currently busy with War for the Planet of the Apes and hasn’t moved over to The Batman just yet, but if one thing’s for certain, it’s that he’s planning to make some big changes to the original script.

It’s rare to see actors jump between Marvel and DC Comics movies, but one who is clearly desperate to do so is Cillian Murphy. The actor played The Scarecrow in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises, and his take on the unhinged Dr. Jonathan Crane definitely had a lasting impact on the Christopher Nolan helmed franchise.
Now though, Murphy (who is currently promoting Ron Howard’s In the Heart of the Sea alongside Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man star Tom Holland) has revealed that he would love the opportunity to become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Here’s what he had to say about making that a reality in a recent interview:
