We recently spoke with film composer Robert Folk about his tenure on the re-edited version of Roland Joffe’s epic, There Be Dragons. As a follow-up to that interview, film director / producer / wiz-kid James Ordonez provides us with the inner workings of the film’s progress from religious biopic to ambitious drama.
Ordonez has taken the time to give WhatCulture an exclusive journey into the re-invention of Joffe’s project. The film bombed on release, and despite some positive reviews, it sank into the abyss of nothingness. Despite this firm rejection, Ordonez was unwilling to let the film die, and took this opportunity to help revive it. Join us now as Ordonez tells us about controversial beliefs, onset spats and the millions spent to redeem a potential modern classic.

Pam Grier, Michael Madsen and Brigitte Nielsen join the cast of the grindhouse style film, Skinny Dip. The cast already includes Sasha Grey and Danny Trejo in the film about "a girl who takes an innocent dare, ends up terribly victimized and then seeks shotgun-wielding revenge while wearing a stolen police uniform." Frankie Latina is directing from a script by Norman Lasca. The film has the great tagline of “They took her bikini. They took her virginity. She took her revenge.”
Here is what Latina had to say about the film:
“I grew up on and have always loved the films of the 70’s and 80’s featuring such on-screen idols as Pam Grier, Laura Gemser and Grace Jones. They contain, in my opinion, some the most powerful female performances in cinema history. Skinny Dip will draw from a new, equally powerful and provocative actress in Sasha Grey. Shiney Ahuja's last film Hijack may have bombed at the B.O. but instead of sitting and brooding over it, Shiney has moved on big time. In fact Shiney is all excited these days and the reason behind it is that he has just signed his first Hollywood film. The film in question is Silver Cord, a romantic sci-fi thriller that has Shiney playing the lead role along side Hollywood superstar Val Kilmer. What is however most interesting is the fact that unlike other Bollywood actors who have played mostly Asian characters in Hollywood films, Shiney will be seen playing an all-American character in Silver Cord thus becoming the first Indian actor to do so. Silver Cord is directed by James Ordonez and produced by Mark Canton (of 300 fame), Michael Shane and Anthony Romano (producers of Catch Me If You Can). Apparently, director James Ordonez first came across Shiney...

I don’t know just how “horror” this is going to be, but it does have to do with resurrection and out of body experiences, and it’s a love story, which is just terrifying in the first place, so stick with me. The flick is called Silver Cord, and it’s set to be the directorial debut of James Ordonez.
Variety announced this morning that Silver Cord has signed Val Kilmer, Shane West (What We Do is Secret, The Lodger), Areielle Kebbel (Freakdog, The Grudge 2), Cam Gigandet (The Unborn) and Eric Balfour(The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) to star in the film. The story follows a man who is separated from the love of his life and has numerous out of body experiences to try to find her. One time something goes wrong, the titular spiritual cord is severed, and his friends realize they have 24 hours to save him before he is dead.

Here's an interesting new film that had me digging for more info on Google. Handpicked Films and Tayrona Entertainment have signed Shane West, Cam Gigandet, Val Kilmer, Arielle Kebbel and Eric Balfour to star in James Ordonez's Silver Cord, which was written by Ordonez and Ken Gord. The synopsis given was that the story centers on Ordonez's brother who came back to life after being declared clinically dead on multiple occasions. The brother died in 2004. But we needed to know more, and apparently the film heads in a totally different direction, read on for the full synopsis. The indie feature's aiming at a September start and has obtained a SAG waiver.
