Assassins, contract killers, hitmen. Whatever you want to kill them, they are a popular fixture of Hollywood movies.
This week sees the release of The Iceman, Ariel Vromen’s film based on the book The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer by Anthony Bruno, tells the story of real-life Mafia hitman Richard Kuklinski. Nicknamed The Iceman because he froze some of his victims, he was tough, calculating and very slick.
Will his movie counterpart be the slickest movie assassin of all time? Only time will tell, but he has a lot of competition.
Let’s take a look at the top ten slickest movie assassins, by perusing though their profiles on CheckedOut, the professional network for contract killers

Michael Shannon is one hell of an actor. However, even he can’t save the bad writing of The Iceman.
Here’s the deal. What they are trying to accomplish is to make “The Iceman” or Richard Kuklinski a compelling character that you feel compassion for. The story is based on Kuklinski, so he is the main focus. The murders, unfortunately, fall a bit flat. Despite focusing on his hundreds of kills, they shine more of the limelight on his love for his family. I feel that some might be disappointed with the lack of focus on the murders, but the film itself concentrates more on the man. The script feels a bit weak still. All of the compassion felt for Kuklinski comes from Michael Shannon. He is a fantastic actor who offers a complete dimension of layers. Still, the writing doesn’t begin to do justice to what they...

The Iceman hints at ideas that would have made it far more intriguing than it actually is. We see different sides to the murderer at the center of the story from his pained past and the demons he fights throughout, but in the end the focus lands squarely on his murders. These murders may define this man in the media, but to explore him as a cinematic character additional depth must be added, otherwise all you have is a man that can't give in to the urge to kill people, leaving very little else to explore or enjoy. Directed by Ariel Vromen and starring Michael Shannon (Man of Steel) as real world mob hitman Richard Kuklinski, the film is based closely on the tell-all book The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer by Anthony Bruno. The Iceman is the electrifying true story of Richard Kuklinski (Shannon), a notorious mob contract killer and loving family man who was reportedly responsible for over 200 murders. He was a man who used his tendencies toward violence and detachment from consequence to create an idyllic family life. Last fall, Ariel Vroman's killer thriller The Iceman premiered at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival (see the first trailer here), and the film finally gets a theatrical release this summer. The film sees Michael Shannon showing up on the big screen (before we see him as the villainous General Zod in Man of Steel) as Richard "The Ice Man" Kuklinski, a mafia hit man who murdered at least 100 people, including at least 50 vagrants before he was 18 years old. Ray Liotta, Chris Evans (looking really disheveled and creepy), David Schwimmer and Winona Ryder co-star in the film, and it looks like it should be intense. Here's the new trailer for Ariel Vroman's The Iceman from Millennium Entertainment (via YouTube): Ariel Vroman directed The Iceman and also wrote the script with Morgan Land based on Anthony Bruno's biography The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer. Millennium Films has released an incredible new trailer for the Michael Shannon mob crime-thriller called The Hitman. The film was directed by Ariel Vromen, and also stars Winona Ryder, Chris Evans, Ray Liotta, David Schwimmer, Robert Davi, Danny Abeckaser, Stephen Dorff, and James Franco.
It looks like Shannon is going to once again give a hell of an incredible performance. He plays notorious contract killer and charming family man Richard Kuklinski, who is believed to have killed 100 people between 1964 and 1986. The movie is based on Anthony Bruno's biography The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer. Here's the synopsis...

I caught Ariel Vroman's The Iceman at the Toronto Film Festival last year and wasn't necessarily impressed. Based on Anthony Bruno's novel "The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer", the film centers on Richard Kuklinski (Michael Shannon), a man who claims to have killed over 100 people in the New Jersey area and the film gets bogged down focusing on said murders. Here's the opening paragraph to my Toronto review: The Iceman hints at ideas that would have made it far more intriguing than it actually is. We see different sides to the murderer at the center of the story from his pained past and the demons he fights throughout, but in the end the focus lands squarely on his murders. The Iceman is one of those movies I've been excited about seeing since it was first announced back in 2009. It finally got made, and the first official trailer has been released! This looks like it turned out to be an awesomely intense mob film, that has been well worth the wait.
The film tells the crazy true story of a notorious contract killer and charming family man named Richard Kuklinski, who is believed to have killed 100 people between 1964 and 1986. The movie is based on Anthony Bruno's biography The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer.
The movie was directed by Ariel Vromen, and stars Michael Shannon, Winona Ryder, James Franco, Ray Liotta and Chris Evans. Unfortunately, there's still no release date, but it's definitely worth looking forward too. Watch the trailer, and let us know if it gets you excited about seeing the movie!

All good things must come to an end. And now, so must Dog the Bounty Hunter.
After eight (8!) seasons of the hit reality show, A&E have passed on a ninth season of their cameras following professional bounty hunter Duane “Dog” Chapman and his family of lovable fugitive-recovery agents as they go about recovering fugitives and wearing their sunglasses indoors. It was a good run, folks, and it certainly lasted longer than anyone really could have imagined, even in this age of ur-celebrity. Apparently, “creative differences” were the reason the show has come to an end, though the loads of “behind-the-scenes controversy” probably also began to harm more than it helped.
But rather than just go negative and dip into my bag of mullet jokes, I thought I’d give something else a go. Last month, while talking about something else, I squabbed a bit about how a few years...

Michael Shannon is looking tough as nails in this new poster for the awesome sounding hitman thriller The Iceman. Shannon is one of my favorite actors working in movies today, and he's not doing enough! I think he's completely underrated and should have not only been nominated, but won an Oscar for Best Actor for his role in Take Shelter last year. There's no doubt he's going to blow up in this movie. You can watch a clip for it here if you want.
The film tells the true story of notorious contract killer and charming family man Richard Kuklinski, who made more than 200 hits in his career. Shannon is playing Kuklinski, and Evans will play his mentor, Robert Pronge.

THR is bringing us some news in the casting department, with the update that Everybody Loves Raymond actor Brad Garrett is currently in talks to join Burt Wonderstone with Steve Carell. His part sounds like a rather small one — “Carrell’s accountant, whom he fires.” I’d be willing to bet that’s the entire extent of the role.
The actual plot follows “a more traditional magic man (Carell) who is dethroned by a hipper illusionist (Carrey) doing dangerous tricks and breaks up with his partner then must find a way to rediscover his love for magic.” Somewhere along the line, he realizes that an accountant isn’t of great importance.
Very mild snark aside, Wonderstone‘s cast is a rather nice one — Jim Carrey, Steve Buscemi, James Gandolfini, and Olivia Wilde all on board the project, which Don Scardino is directing. Shooting on this one will kick off in January,...

[1] For a while there it looked like Ariel Vromen's The Iceman was on the verge of falling apart, as James Franco dropped out [2] of the project. But the hitman biopic is moving along with David Schwimmer [3] and Chris Evans [4] added to the cast in recent weeks, and now Winona Ryder has boarded the picture as well in a role once slated for Maggie Gyllenhaal. Ryder will play the wife of mob contract killer Richard Kuklinski, a.k.a. The Iceman (Michael Shannon), who's unaware of the true nature of her husband's career. Ray Liotta and Ryan O'Nan will also star. Based on interview footage and Anthony Bruno's book The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer, the picture is scheduled to begin production early next year in Louisiana. The indie thriller The Iceman has been under development for quite sometime, but was nearly put out of its misery when it couldn’t find a lead. James Franco was attached to star in the movie, but had to drop out due to scheduling, which nearly killed the movie itself. Then Chris Evans took role of Kuklinski’s mentor., and basically saved the Iceman from being put on ice. The movie is based on the book by Anthony Bruno that chronicles the life of Richard Kuklinski, a professional hitman who kept his work secret from his family. According to Deadline, Michael Shannon is till on board to play as Kuklinski and is now reporting that Winona Ryder will play as the Killer’s wife.

Winona Ryder was conspicuously absent from movies for a while, but it in the last few years she seems to be making something of a comeback. She has had supporting roles in The Dilema, Star Trek and Black Swan. Deadline New York is now reporting that she will next act in The Iceman, about "a family man who secretly carried out contract killings for the mob".General Zod himself, Michael Shannon, will play the title role with Captain America's Chris Evans in the mentor role. Ryder will play the wife of Shannon's character. Apparently she has no clue he's a hit man, so it's obviously a healthy marriage with an open line of communication. Since Ryder has been cast in the film I thought I'd take the opportunity to list my top 5 favorite films that the actress has been in.
Beetlejuice - this is just a great classic Tim Burton movie that I absolutely love. It's also the film that put Ryder on the road to stardom.
Girl Interrupted - Even though Angelina Jolie stole the show in this film, Ryder gave a very powerful performance.

This is a big year coming up for Jeremy Renner. He has a major role in the upcoming "Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol," is one of the titular superheroes in "The Avengers" and is also launching a new branch of the Jason Bourne franchise. The latter is arguably his biggest project in the future, and the one we know least about. Fortunately, he dished some pretty big details in a recent interview.
When promoting "Ghost Protocol" with Empire magazine, Renner shared that his character in "The Bourne Legacy" will be named Aaron Cross, at least to start. "He ends up having a bunch of different names. For fans of the franchise, [The Bourne Legacy] has that same ticking clock, but it's a new programme and new characters," he said. "It's that same deal, it's just a new set of agents with a different leash.

A hero no more. Deadline has reported actor Chris Evans replaced James Franco in the crime movie “The Iceman,” which is about the real life mob contract killer Richard Kuklinski. Evans would play Robert Pronge, the mentor to Kuklinski and a demolitions expert hit man. Pronge was also named “Mister Softee,” who was known to drive a Mister Softee ice cream van to help monitor his victim’s activities. The story is based off the crime biography under the same name by Anthony Bruno. Kuklinski, aka The Iceman, was known as a freelance mob enforcer who killed over 200 people. He was eventually captured, but died in prison before his testimony about the mob. Actor Michael Shannon is attached to play Kuklinski. Chris Evans is the new James Franco. By that, we don't mean he's become attached to a hundred projects at once while also studying for 16 degrees and crafting five art projects - he's taking over Franco's role in killer drama The Iceman.
Since it was announced back in January, the film about the real, double life of family man/contract killer Richard Kuklinski has been through a fair few changes.
But Michael Shannon is still aboard to play Kuklinski, with Maggie Gyllenhaal signed on as his doting but innocent wife. Evans is now as Robert Pronge (Aka Mr Softee), who acted as Kuklinski's mentor. David Schwimmer has reportedly been in talks to play a fellow assassin and Ray Liotta is aboard as mob boss Roy Demeo.

Chris Evans knocked it out of the park this past summer by proving that 1) he can play more than the wiseass, and 2) with the right actor, you actually can make Captain America work. Having liked his more serious turns in flicks such as Sunshine and Push, I was already convinced of the former, but I was definitely relieved by the latter. He'll be donning the stars and stripes again for next summer's much-anticipated Avengers movie, but he's also just signed on for a project that will let him explore a less patriotic, considerably darker subject matter. Deadline reports that he has signed on to star in the hitman movie The Iceman, taking over a role that was previously going to be filled by James Franco. Based on Anthony Bruno's book, The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer, Iceman is a biopic focused on the life of...
