Paula Vogel’s Mother Play is Jessica Lange’s fourth Broadway show, among the many other film and television projects that have populated her decades-long career.
But unlike her past roles, in which she has put her own spin on well-known characters, such as Mary Tryone in Long Day’s Journey Into Night, she had a chance to do something different with this play: originate a part in a new piece of theater.
“I wasn’t nervous. I just honestly had no idea what to expect,” Lange said. “It was a great unknown to me.”
In the play, Lange takes on the role of Phyllis, mom to Carl, played by Jim Parsons, and Martha played by Celia Keenan-Bolger. The story, which is loosely based on the playwright’s own family life, follows the family through several decades, and several apartments, as Phyllis, a aesthetics-focused, gin-swilling force, grapples with her circumstances as a single mom,...

‘If you didn’t laugh, you’d cry’ isn’t just the correct British response to any exasperating situation, it must also be Tony Schumacher’s screenwriting mantra. His crime drama The Responder would be unwatchably bleak if it wasn’t also so bloody funny.
Series one put response officer Chris Carson (Martin Freeman) through the wringer so thoroughly that it was a wonder he survived. His childhood pal Carl, a small-time drug dealer who’d been paying him for police intel, didn’t, and in a characteristically heroic/risky attempt to help Carl’s widow, Chris gave her the rucksack of stolen cocaine that had kicked off all this mess. Now it’s six months later and guess what? Chris’ problems are far from over.

Dolly Parton’s husband, Carl Dean, is as skilled at dodging the press as his wife is at courting their attention. In the decades they’ve been married, he has only spoken to media outlets a handful of times and is hardly ever seen out in public. In a rare interview, he shared the thoughtful reason he tries to avoid talking to journalists.
Dolly Parton’s husband shared why he doesn’t talk to the media
While Parton said Dean is thoughtful and charming with his close friends and family members, he avoids talking to strangers.
“Carl only talks to people he likes,” Parton’s friend Lucy Adams said in the book Dolly by Alanna Nash. “He’ll talk to you if you go out there, but if he doesn’t have to, he won’t.”

Groundskeeper Willie, the aggressively Scottish handyman who works for Springfield Elementary School on "The Simpsons," first appeared in the episode "Principal Charming", the one where Principal Skinner (Harry Shearer) attempted to seduce and marry Aunt Patty (Julie Kavner). Skinner and Patty bond over their mutual grumpiness, as he is a stern taskmaster with his students and she is a general misanthrope. Groundskeeper Willie doesn't play a major part in the story, except when Bart (Nancy Cartwright) breaks into his supply shed to steal grass killer. Skinner will pull a similar prank later in the episode. Willie has two lines in the episode: "You'll be back" and "I told you you'd be back."
Groundskeeper Willie (Dan Castellaneta) went on to appear in at least 53 additional episodes of the series, a number that will only continue to grow. He has been greased up by Lunchlady Doris (Doris Grau), fallen in love with his tractor,...

At the start of The Responder’s first series, written by ex-police officer Tony Schumacher, the cracks were already showing in Martin Freeman’s police officer Chris Carson. He was depressed, angry, and having panic attacks.
A former inspector who’d been demoted to response policing when his squad came under suspicion of corruption, Chris had spent the last three years working night patrols in Liverpool city centre. He was unpopular at work and considered a loose cannon best left alone. His shift pattern meant that he barely saw his wife Kate (MyAnna Buring) and their young daughter Tilly. His wages couldn’t cover the fees at the care home for his dementia-suffering mother (Rita Tushingham). He wanted to be a good bobby, but under-funded public services made him at best, a sticking plaster on the desperate needs of his drug-flooded and impoverished community.

Dolly Parton has been married to her husband, Carl Dean, for decades, a truth that may come as a surprise to some. Parton’s husband does not join her on red carpets or at shows — few pictures of him are even publicly available. Early in Parton’s career, though, Dean joined her at an industry event. According to those in attendance, Dean was visibly uncomfortable with being there.

In the 1960s, Parton received an award at the BMI Awards Dinner, and Dean accompanied her to the ceremony. Both of them were nervous about the event.
“I was very excited, because I’d never been [to an awards dinner] before,” she said, per the book Dolly by Alanna Nash. “Carl said he’d go with me. That was the first time he’d been to any industry function with me, and it was the last.

Dolly Parton has been with her husband for decades, and she has joked about her flirtations with other men for nearly as long as they’ve been together. She danced around rumors of affairs for years. Her husband, Carl Dean, keeps his goings-on out of the public eye, but he once called Parton to inform her that he was on a date. Parton was well acquainted with his partner.
Dolly Parton’s husband took her former teacher on a date
Parton’s career took her away from home often, leaving Dean alone. This meant that when people came to town, it may be up to him alone to entertain them. Once, while she was on tour, Parton’s first grade teacher called on the couple.

Pixar has given the world some of the most successful animated films of all time. Near the top of the list is 2009’s Up. One of the most iconic parts of the movie is the main character’s house, which is able to fly up into the air thanks to thousands of helium balloons tied to the roof.
Fans love recreations of their favorite things from movies in the real world. But this time, things might have gone a bit too far. Airbnb is offering customers the chance to stay in a recreation of the house from Up, complete with being lifted into the air via crane. But the edifice is generating doubts as many potential customers appear to view the whole thing as too risky.

No classic rock band is completely original. The Beach Boys’ sound was inspired by the vocal harmonies of another band. The Beach Boys’ Mike Love also revealed that the riff from “Fun, Fun, Fun” was inspired by one of the quintessential 1950s artists.
Mike Love said The Beach Boys were inspired by a college-themed band
During a 2020 interview with American Songwriter, Love discussed The Beach Boys’ famous harmonies. “I never took any voice lessons, per se,” he revealed. “But we always got together and sang harmonies. I would gravitate to the bass part and Carl [Wilson] would be above me and then Brian [Wilson] would be on the top.”
A certain barbershop group inspired the band. “We emulated The Four Freshmen,” Love said. “In fact, we learned a few of their arrangements. The Four Freshmen are just amazing artists and singers.” The Four Freshmen are mostly remembered for the college-themed hit “Graduation Day.

Airbnb is doing a new thing called “Icons” where they offer special locations or events. One of their offerings is a recreation of the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning from ‘X-Men ’97.’ They are also doing one of the house from “Up” complete with crane lifting!
Let’s take a look at both offerings! X-Men ’97 House.
The home is in New York, overlooking New York City. It has been transformed into the “cartoon” by using a hand-painting technique to mimic 2-D art.
The experience includes:
“• I’ll lead you through new student orientation (don’t worry we’ll get to the fun stuff fast).
• Enter Beast’s totally gnarly lab! It’s like a science playground where you’ll be able to power-up with mutant energy elixirs.
• Take a class in the Danger Room, where some of our combat professors will teach you how to improve your fighting skills...

The Jesus story wasn't as bad as it could have been.
Spoilers for The Good Doctor Season 7 Episode 7 made it seem like this would be a ridiculous story, but by halfway through the hour, "Jesus" had been cured of his delusions and was struggling with feelings of inadequacy.
That was utterly on-brand for The Good Doctor, yet entirely unpredictable. Well played!
Most stories of this nature follow a pattern in which something miraculous happens to make the skeptics and non-believers wonder whether they've encountered the Son of God after all.
Thankfully, The Good Doctor didn't use that tired TV trope. Instead, Jesus' story turned into a tale about a guy who felt so insignificant that he convinced himself he was Jesus to feel like he mattered in this world.
Many people are walking around like that, desperate for someone to notice them so they can prove to themselves they're not invisible.

Is it time for NCIS: Dallas?
Probably not, based on the events of NCIS Season 21 Episode 9.
It was a bad week for the franchise, with NCIS: Hawaii being canceled, without warning, after its third season.
And right after Sam Hanna of NCIS: Los Angeles fame came on board for an indefinite stay.
It appears his visit will be for only one season. That's a pity since this new lineup was only beginning to hit its stride.
Apparently, the franchise is sticking with sure things. Beyond a second season of NCIS: Sydney, what else is coming is very NCIS-centric: NCIS: Origins, aka the Young Jethro Gibbs Chronicles, and the unnamed adventures of Tony and Ziva.
Besides, Jo, the innkeeper/small-town sheriff, didn't strike me as a character around which to build a spinoff.
Maybe this episode was, to some degree, poking fun at Yellowstone. Then again, maybe not.

To think Dusk for a Hitman is kind of a biopic is unbelievable! Although director Raymond St-Jean’s film does clarify at the very beginning that most of the incidents are fictional—only the characters are taken from real life—the film can still be put in the biopic genre on a technicality. The treatment is very not-biopic-like, though, as for the most part, actor Eric Bruneau plays the role of hitman Donald Lavoie with a lot of swagger. No matter what situation he’s in, the man looks unbothered. It’s obviously a conscious creative decision, and it does work in the film’s favor.
Spoilers Ahead
What Happens in the Film?
Dusk for a Hitman begins in the autumn of 1979, with no-nonsense Hitman Donald Lavoie coolly taking care of two people by wiping them from the face of the earth, like nothing happened. Donald works for Claud Dubois,...

In 1967, Dolly Parton and her husband, Carl Dean, celebrated one year of marriage by visiting the man who married them, Dr. L. Don Duvall. They had a friendly relationship with him, and he continued to think fondly of the young couple over the years. Several years after their wedding, Dr. Duvall reached out to Parton. She responded with a sweet letter detailing how much she loved Dean.
Dolly Parton once wrote a sweet letter about her husband
In 1966, Parton and Dean drove to Georgia with Parton’s mother to elope. Dr. Duvall was sometimes wary of elopements, though he recalled immediately liking the young couple.
“She was just a pretty girl, a young, friendly, outgoing mountain girl,” he told Alanna Nash in the book Dolly. “I remember I really liked her as a person. I liked him, too. He seemed to be a nice young man.”

In 1967, Dolly Parton’s career reached new heights when Porter Wagoner invited her to appear on his television show. The spot on The Porter Wagoner Show brought her increased exposure, and their duets consistently landed her in the Top 10 on country charts. Still, Parton bristled at the notion that Wagoner discovered her. She had been working as a musician for a long time before she joined Wagoner on his show.
Dolly Parton said Porter Wagoner did not discover her
Parton was unquestionably grateful for the impact Wagoner had on her career. Still, she wondered if he got a bit too much credit for her success. She believed her uncle did more to get her started as a musician.
“I sometimes wonder if Porter doesn’t take more credit than he deserves,” she wrote in the book Dolly: My Life and Other Unfinished Business. “On the other hand, I often wonder if he gets enough credit.

Showtime has a tendency, even more so than most networks, to drag its shows on for way too long. From "Dexter" to "Weeds" to "Californication," their shows just can't quite seem to learn how to end on a high note. Whereas HBO tends to leave its audience wanting more, Showtime series stick around until the audience begs them to go away.
Such is the case with "Shameless," a show that could've gone down as one of the greats of the 2010s if only it hadn't tried to drag things out a solid four or five seasons past its natural expiration date. By season 11 it was in full zombie mode, with one of its leads gone with the wind and the others acting like shells of their former selves. Of course, not all of the latter seasons were terrible, just as not all of the early seasons were perfect. Here's our...

"The Simpsons," now in its 500th season (okay, it's actually in season 35, but who's counting?) recently made headlines by killing off a character who has been with the show since the beginning. It's not the first time the classic animated sitcom has bumped off a character — Maude Flanders famously died, as did Bart's teacher Mrs. Krabappel, and both instances left poor Ned Flanders a widower. Bleeding Gums Murphy's death sent Lisa Simpson into depression. Dr. Marvin Monroe was said to have died, only to then return. Then, of course, there's the unfortunate Frank Grimes, who died after grabbing some electrical wiring in one of the show's most infamous (and best) episodes. In short, death is nothing new to Springfield — especially when you consider how long "The Simpsons" has been on the air. The characters may not exactly age, but time marches on.
However, this recent character death seems to be getting to people.

Dolly Parton has been famous for years, which has given her access to practically everything she could have ever wanted. She said that she gained the most precious thing in her life before stardom, though. Parton said that she considered her relationship with her husband sacred and that he was incredibly important to her.
Dolly Parton said her husband was incredibly valuable to her
Parton and her husband, Carl Dean, have been married since 1966. In their decades together, Dean has rarely been seen by the public, even as Parton grew increasingly visible. Parton said this dynamic worked well for them.
“He’s a real mystery person to the public. That’s good, though,” she said in the book Dolly by Alanna Nash. “I mean, that’s fine with us, and fine with him. He loves me good, and my career bein’ separate from my marriage is perfectly natural for us.

Dolly Parton’s relationship with her husband, Carl Dean, has been going strong for decades, but she has managed to keep it almost entirely away from the public eye. Dean, in contrast to his wife, prefers a quiet life away from the spotlight. In the 1970s, Dean’s privacy made rumors about the couple fly. Parton said that one of these rumors was particularly embarrassing to her.
Dolly Parton found it embarrassing that people believed a rumor about her relationship
In 1977, journalist Alanna Nash met with Parton for a wide-ranging interview. Shortly before their meeting, a story ran about Parton that said she knew her marriage would work because she lived with Dean for a year beforehand. When Nash brought this up, Parton was horrified.
“Oh, I didn’t live with him!” she said, per the book Dolly by Alanna Nash. “I made the mistake of sayin’ that out of country innocence.

Very few directors have ever had the kind of run Rob Reiner did as a director between 1984 and 1992. Think about it. This is Spinal Tap, The Sure Thing, Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery and A Few Good Men. Surely, that run alone would be enough to solidify him as one of the greatest Hollywood directors of all time? Those movies are so good it almost doesn’t matter how much money-losing crap he puts out now…and there is a lot of it… and North isn’t even the worst of it! So how did this man go from making a few great movies that defined and elevated our pop culture on so many different levels to suddenly pumping out nothing but heartless, soulless political flicks (did anyone see Lbj?) and rom-coms that are neither romantic nor comedic?
So, how did this jack of...

His name is…or, rather, was, Larry Dalrymple. He was not mentioned very much on The Simpsons, but he was a longtime patron of Moe’s Tavern, drinking his life away and earning the nickname “The Barfly.”
Through 35 years, he held down a stool at Moe’s. And now, he’s gone, and fans of The Simpsons can’t bear the loss.
Social media is in deep mourning for the animated Larry, whose demise was revealed in the latest episode of The Simpsons. He dropped dead in Cremains of the Day, the season 35 episode that aired this past Sunday.
Tim Long, a co-executive producer, said that the creative team of the show intended to shock and awe viewers. Talking with TMZ, he said that while he was sorry if the plot point upset fans, it points out how beloved the show is.

Throughout its long-standing run of 34 years, a legendary animated sitcom The Simpsons has got rid of so many characters that the viewers got to be attached or at least used to.
Many of those characters never even made it to be significantly visible staying in the shadows for years or, in The Simpsons’ case, decades — and now the famous show killed yet another Springfield citizen off.
The series’ new episode called Cremains of the Day premiered on Fox several days ago, but before that gave some chills to fans. Some time before, the show’s writer Matt Selman posted a poll on X and accompanied it with a caption about a character that was going to die in the upcoming episode thus offering his followers to guess who he would “breathe their last”.
The quest wouldn’t be that difficult even for those who know almost nothing about The Simpsons...

"You wanna know how this ends?" Hulu has revealed an official trailer for an intense horror thriller titled The Stranger, arriving for streaming this month. Not to be confused with the British series The Stranger, or the Australian crime film The Stranger. Some of you may recognize this, it was initially conceived as an hour-by-hour series for the app Quibi. After that app went under, it's been re-edited and reset for release as a feature film streaming on Hulu, but without much fanfare. Maika Monroe stars as a recent transplant to the Los Angeles Valley scraping by as a rideshare driver. One night, she picks up Carl at a Hollywood Hills Mansion. He appears pleasant at first, but that facade is shattered when he reveals himself to be a violent, misogynistic murderer. There have been a few other rideshare horror recently including Spree and Ride. Co-starring Dane DeHaan and Avan Jogia.

Veena Sud is no stranger to the tangled streaming rights game when it comes to distribution.
After her Quibi series folded, the filmmaker is now bringing her breakout horror hit “The Stranger” to Hulu with a new director’s cut. “Longlegs” actress and horror staple Maika Monroe plays a rideshare driver who goes through a twelve-hour fight for survival when she picks up Carl (Dane DeHaan), a passenger who becomes her worst nightmare. Avan Jogia co-stars in the former series which is now a feature film.
“The Stranger” began as a Quibi series, which meant that Sud co-owned the copyright to the work, as part of the Quibi business model. Sud is now able to “self-distribute” the footage, recut as a feature.

One of the most famous moments in TV history came on September 26, 1962 with the airing of "The Dick Van Dyke Show" episode "Never Name a Duck," the first episode of the second season. During the opening credits of the show, Rob Petrie (Van Dyke) entered through his front door while the upbeat theme music (composed by Earle Hagan) played on the soundtrack. The announcer shouted out the names of the stars: Dick Van Dyke, Rose Marie, Morey Amsterdam, Larry Matthews, and Mary Tyler Moore. Rob stepped out of a foyer and immediately tripped over a large ottoman in his way. Van Dyke, a brilliant physical comedian, tumbled all the way over, rolling over his shoulder and landing on his back. It remains, to this day, one of the most celebrated pratfalls in the history of the medium.

Dolly Parton was in her home when an uneasy feeling settled over her. After a few strange occurrences, Parton had a full-on shock that terrified her. The singer became convinced that her house was haunted.
Dolly Parton believed she had a spirit in her home
Parton and her husband, Carl Dean, shared their first home in Nashville with some of Parton’s siblings and her best friend, Judy. When they traveled back to their hometown, though, Parton and Dean were left alone in the house. They began to hear strange noises, which the couple attributed to Judy returning home early.
“One night we locked the doors and windows, as we routinely did when living in the city, and went off to bed. We soon began to hear noises in the kitchen,” she wrote in her book Dolly: My Life and Other Unfinished Business, adding, “We heard the familiar sounds of cabinets opening and water running.

Lifetime is known for its original 'Ripped From the Headlines' movies that retell the events that grip the nation and even the world.
If you have ever seen one, you know it can be challenging to get over the low-budget production and corny writing, but that's part of their addiction.
They tend to get filmed quickly, air quickly, and hire people looking to make a breakthrough acting debut.
However, the astonishing cases they feature are the ones that had a stranglehold over the media for their horrifying uniqueness, and the ones we recommend have some surprisingly big names.
These movies somehow come together in a way that makes them 'so bad, they're good,' just like the breeds of dogs that are 'so ugly, they're cute.'
No matter which side of the fence you may land on, here are the Lifetime movies that genuinely hit the mark.
