Gavin O’Connor’s The Accountant brought Ben Affleck in a different kind of action role. The film ended its run with a worldwide total of $155 million and a sequel was announced, but struggled to gain traction. The Accountant starred Ben Affleck as Christian Wolff, a mathematical savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Behind the cover of a small-town Cpa office, he works as a freelance accountant for some of the world’s most dangerous criminal organizations. The film sported an impressive cast that included Jon Bernthal, John Lithgow, J.K. Simmons, Anna Kendrick and Jeffrey Tambor.
Industry insider Daniel Richtman has confirmed that The Accountant 2 is now a go with Amazon producing the film. Gavin O’Connor will return to direct with Ben Affleck reprising his role. Back in 2021, O’Connor appeared on the CinemaBlend podcast where he revealed that he had just closed the deal for the sequel.

Sitcoms are among some of the most beloved TV shows ever made. Unlike respected premium drama series like "The Wire," "Breaking Bad," or "True Detective," which regularly top lists of the greatest TV shows ever made, shows like "Friends," "Seinfeld," "Cheers," and "The Office" are beloved in a way that feels a lot more personal. Sitcoms are feel-good experiences, even when they're shows about nothing, and are the exact opposite of David Fincher's intense thrillers.
Which is why I can't shake the feeling that the auteur is making fun of himself with his latest effort. As /Film's Chris Evangelista wrote in his review of "The Killer," "I'm not saying Fincher is on the same level as a cold-blooded killer, but he clearly sees a lot of himself (and his approach to his work) in his latest protagonist." But if the director was trying to draw this parallel between the...

"The Accountant," a wildly silly movie that's also surprisingly fun, is getting a sequel. This isn't exactly new news – the sequel was first announced back in 2017. However, last year we got word that the sequel might not actually happen, but a TV show spin-off was a possibility. Now, it looks like the sequel is happening after all! During a recent podcast appearance, "Accountant" director Gavin O'Connor revealed the deal for the sequel was just finalized, and that stars Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal were both likely to return.

A sequel to the 2016 action film “The Accountant” starring Ben Affleck is in development at Warner Bros., with director Gavin O’Connor returning to the project, an individual with knowledge told TheWrap.
Deals for O’Connor, writer Bill Dubuque and the film’s producers are in place, but the individual says no deals have been set for talent, including Affleck or Jon Bernthal.
O’Connor recently said on the Cinema Blend podcast that he “literally just closed that deal” for a sequel to “The Accountant.”
“The Accountant” grossed $155.1 million worldwide on a $44 million budget. Affleck starred as a quiet and reclusive math savant named Christian Wolff, who behind the scenes, while working as a small-town Cpa, is secretly a freelance accountant for dangerous criminal organizations. And he himself proves to be an excellent shot and dangerous figure. But the body count begins to pile up after he takes a legitimate job...

Ben Affleck and director Gavin O’Connor’s action-thriller The Accountant was such a great movie! Shortly after it was released, there was talk of a sequel, and I’ve been wondering if there has actually been any movement on that. I’d like to see the story of Affleck’s character, Christian Wolff, explored more.
While there hasn’t been much movement on a sequel, Affleck is still interested in pursuing it. While talking to Collider, the actor was asked about the project and this is what he said:
“Yeah, I hope so. I would love to. We’ve talked about kicking some ideas around, this last movie we just did. We talked to the studio and they seemed interested, and they kind of brought it up so, we’re looking to do that. I think it would be fun. I love Gavin, I love the movie I just did with him.

Of all the movies that might inspire a sequel, a thriller about a math savant would probably not have been near the top of the list. Yet a sequel to The Accountant is indeed on its way, according to Deadline. Why? The original was a very good drama. Ben Affleck starred as math savant Christian Wolff, who is a successful, if very low-key, accountant. In a twist that's revealed very early in the story, however, he's identified by a Treasury Department official (J.R. Simmons) as an accountant for very dangerous criminals. He's also shown to be quite accurate as a long-distance marksman. Hmm, could that mean he is himself a lethal weapon? From there, the movie gallops along as Christian takes on a new job that introduces new dangers into his life, as well as a fellow...

Warner Bros. are looking to secure a sequel to Ben Affleck’s 2016’s The Accountant with Affleck, director Gavin O’Connor and screenwriter Bill Dubuque all currently in talks to return to the crime thriller.
Also in talks to return to The Accountant sequel are the film’s producer’s Howell Taylor and Mark Williams while actor Jon Bernthal may also be back in some capacity as rumours state the follow-up could closely focus Bernthal’s character, a hitman who turns out to be the brother of Affleck’s Christian Wolff, Braxton. No word on whether Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons or Cynthia Addai-Robinson will be involved.
In the first film Affleck played Christian Wolff a mathematics savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Using a small-town Cpa office as a cover, he makes his living as a freelance accountant for dangerous criminal organisations. With a Treasury...

A sequel to the Ben Affleck-starring 2016 crime thriller The Accountant is in the works over at Warner Bros.
That’s accountancy for you. When the sums were totted up for the Ben Affleck-headlined thriller The Accountant, it turned out it was a feature that made itself – and Warner Bros – a handsome profit. So much so, in fact, that Warner Bros has now ordered a sequel.
Ben Affleck is set to return in the lead role of Christian Wolff. His character, a high-functioning autistic man with a sideline in the odd assassination here and there, was about the most interesting thing about the original film. Jon Bernthal is also set to appear in the follow-up.
In the director’s chair, meanwhile, Gavin O’Connor is set to return as well, having steered the first movie.

The film, out Tuesday from Warner Home Entertainment, is a largely satisfying character study with more than its necessary quota of gunfire and mayhem,

Ben Affleck impresses as a maths savant in a thriller marred by inconsistencies
“Not less than. Different.” This is the ethos by which a school for autistic kids, seen in book-ending scenes, raises its children to function in the neurotypical world. And it’s a message on which this entertaining but somewhat disingenuous thriller shamelessly piggybacks. The equal opportunities afforded to Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck), a high-functioning autistic maths genius, include whiplash martial arts skills and sharpshooting prowess. Clearly it’s easier to sell a film on explosive action sequences than it is to provide an insight into the mindset of an individual on the autistic spectrum.
Director Gavin O’Connor bows to the unwritten rule that every film about a mathematical savant must include at least one scene in which someone scrawls numbers all over a window. More effective is the nerdy bonding moment between Christian, a freelance accounting...

There’s so much going on in the unlikely action drama The Accountant that I think we can be forgiven for wondering whether writer Bill Dubuque (The Judge) and director Gavin O’Connor (Jane Got a Gun, Pride and Glory) are attempting to give us a little taste of what the world must be like for its hero, Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck). Wolff calls himself a high-functioning autistic, but he’s not that high-functioning: the tentative control he seems to have over the sensory overload he suffers from is a result of daily desensitization sessions, during which he subjects himself...

Screenwriter Bill Dubuque has created the forthcoming Netflix TV drama Ozark with Jason Bateman, and he co-wrote the soupy drama The Judge, with Robert Duvall as the town judge being defended on a murder charge by his estranged son, played by Robert Downey Jr. Here is his The Accountant, directed by Gavin O’Connor and starring Ben Affleck: a fantastically convoluted, over-extended but watchable action thriller whose many dangling loose ends, subplots and side characters are finally tied up with a showy flourish. In its earnest flashbacks to childhood trauma it is weirdly like a superhero origin myth – and maybe Ben Affleck might be better off doing a couple more Accountant movies than anything else from the Batman franchise. Part financial conspiracy thriller, part one-man-army shoot ‘em up, The Accountant fails to consolidate its radically different narrative elements and ends up feeling like two different movies. While director Gavin O’Connor (Warrior, Jane Got a Gun) offers up an overwhelming disjointed thriller, there is, admittedly, some fun to be had here. The action is delightfully brutal, the supporting cast of actors are on point and the occasional touches of humour enough to wrench a chuckle or two out of the audience. Unfortunately, The Accountant suffers from a considerable identity crisis – attempting to craft a story around a disparate array of narrative strands, often-brutal violence and a thematic study of autism, what we get is one of the most downright bizarre mainstream movie experiences so far this year. More than once you’ll ask yourself, “What were they thinking?” Ben Affleck plays Christian Wolff, an autistic mathematical genius who makes his living as a freelance.

A person is born with a form of autism. People view that person as special and at times, odd. To put it bluntly, that autistic person is a freak who isn’t like everybody else. Though as the saying goes, never judge a book by its cover. Ben Affleck plays a man named Christian Wolff in the drama crime film The Accountant. Christian is born with a high-functioning form of autism that makes him superb with numbers. That and he can become an excellent killing machine. Certain films manage to be worth more than they are, and The Accountant might just be the sort of venture that approaches that territory. It’s a fun flick, with positives that make it worth the ride, but it’s ultimately more interesting as the “working education” of its writer and director.
Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) is an accountant who works for many of the most notorious people on the planet in a very specialized niche of both the criminal and accountancy worlds. As Treasury agent Ray King (J.K. Simmons) explains, criminals are not often balance sheet wizards, and if you suspect someone is cooking the books on your dirty dealings you can’t exactly head to H&R Block to have someone find out.
