Former Dave Matthews Band violinist Boyd Tinsley faces a new lawsuit alleging that he breached the terms of a 2019 settlement stemming from a sexual harassment lawsuit.
In 2018, musician James Frost-Winn — a former member of Tinsley’s band Crystal Garden — sued Tinsley, alleging that in November 2015, Tinsley “ejaculated next to Plaintiff Winn and touched Winn’s buttocks while Plaintiff Winn was sleeping.”
According to the suit, following that incident, Tinsley texted Frost-Winn that he had “messed up,” was “confused on pills” and that it would never happen again. The suit included...

The Dave Matthews Band (Dmb) has announced this year’s summer tour.
The band will return to some of the venues they performed at last year during the 2023 Summer Tour. Places like The Woodlands, Texas, West Palm Beach, Florida and Wantagh, New York, among others, will be welcoming the rock band back.
Many of their tour stops will have them staying for two nights and performing back-to-back concerts.
Also, like last year, Dmb is scheduled to conclude the summer tour in George, Washington, at the Gorge Amphitheatre in September.
Dmb has found much success since their formation in 1991. With ten studio albums, they’ve sold over 30 million albums in the whole country alone. They’ve also been nominated for the Grammy Awards 14 times and won Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group in 1997.
Band members include frontman Dave Mathews, bassist Stefan Lessard, drummer Carter Beauford, violinist Boyd Tinsley and saxophonist LeRoi Moore.

Violinist Boyd Tinsley, who recently left the Dave Matthews Band, has been sued for sexual harassment by James Frost-Winn in a lawsuit filed Thursday in King County, Washington. The plaintiff was the trumpeter in Crystal Garden, a group assembled by Tinsley. The violinist said in a statement that he will “fight both in and out of court to repair the damage that has been done.”
The lawsuit follows Tinsley’s announcement in February that he was taking “a break” from the band after 25 years “2 focus on my family & my health 4 a while,” he tweeted. “I’m somewhat worn out & need 2 spend more time with my family & 2 bring more balance to my life.” Matthews himself alluded to the situation in a recent interview with Vulture in which he said, “I have a deep love for Boyd, and he has to deal with his stuff. … I can’t say, ‘I can’t wait till he comes back,...

Winn says Tinsley created a boy band called Crystal Garden. Winn was the trumpet player in the band.

Charlottesville, Va. — A Virginia man who was a personal assistant and financial manager for Dave Matthews Band violinist Boyd Tinsley has admitted embezzling at least $400,000 from the musician.
Getty Andrew Rothenberg, who had been friends with Tinsley for about two decades, pleaded guilty Tuesday to wire fraud in federal court in Charlottesville, court documents showed.
Rothenberg, 39, was initially paid $50,000 a year to pay Tinsley's personal bills and expenses and direct investments for him. He also handled various personal and financial arrangements for Tinsley's wife, court documents said. Rothenberg's salary was later increased to $60,000.
Rothenberg routinely padded the bills and took the excess money for personal use from 2009 through 2012. He also withdrew cash from several accounts controlled by Tinsley, wrote checks to himself and accessed lines of credit established in Tinsley's name.
In one transaction Feb. 21, 2012, Rothenberg obtained $45,596. He got $41,388 in another transaction on Oct. 11, 2011. Other amounts ranged from about $1,200 to...

Indiewire has weeded through the films hitting VOD this Fall month to bring you a curated list of the 16 most worth your time. You'll find everything from a madcap comedy that features "Hellboy" himself, Ron Perlman, in drag to the debut feature from Boyd Tinsley of Dave Matthews Band fame, from the latest improvised romantic comedy from "Humpday" director Lynn Shelton to a found-footage horror movie that took Sundance by storm earlier this year and a drama that boasts Paul Dano's best performance yet. Here are the 16 films to watch on VOD this September, in alphabetical order: "3, 2, 1... Frankie Go Boom" (September 10) If the title "3, 2, 1... Frankie Go Boom" doesn't get your attention, then the wacky plot should do the trick. In the comedy, Charlie Hunnam stars as the titular Frankie, a sad sack who spent his childhood being pranked by his brother, Bruce (Chris O'Dowd). After an unsuccessful one-night stand.

In making his debut feature as a writer and producer, Boyd Tinsley of Dave Matthew Band chose to do things a little differently: he scored the film before penning the script. The result, "Faces in the Mirror," an experimental indie that's driven by a percussive score (recorded by Tinsley, his Dmb bandmates, Shawn Smith of Brad and the Seattle band Maktub) and little-to-no dialogue, tells the story of a young man who on the day of his father's funeral goes on a dreamlike odyssey where he's led, portal by portal, to fantastical places. The story, like the film's production process, defies easy categorization. It requires that you just go with it, preferably with the volume on your speakers turned all the way up. Ahead of the film's online premiere on SnagFilms (Indiewire's parent company), Indiewire caught up with Tinsley to learn how his film, directed by Aaron Farrington, came to be.

Slackerwood is giving you the chance to see Faces in the Mirror this week ... at no cost. Snag Films is bringing the film to Austin on Thursday, August 30 at 7 pm at The Marchesa Hall and Theatre. The screening will be followed by a live simulcast-video Seattle concert with writer/producer/actor Boyd Tinsley, whom you might know better as the violinist in Dave Matthews Band. We have a limited number of admit-two "e-tickets" to give away -- details on how to get one are after the jump.
An important note about the e-tickets: This is a first-come, first-served pass and seating is not guaranteed. If you've been to preview screenings, you know that more tickets are given out than there are seats, so arrive early to stake out a good spot in line. I believe The Marchesa's theater capacity is between 250 and 300, although I'm not certain.

Boyd Tinsley definitely has the music in him. Watch any Dave Matthews Band performance or music video, and you're likely to see him play the violin with electrifying energy.
The Dmb member is now bringing that same passion to his first big screen project, "Faces in the Mirror," an emotional movie set to music recorded before any film was shot that tells the story of a man returning home to attend his negligent father's funeral. Tinsley conceived the film, which premieres live on Aug. 30 at SnagFilms.com, and served as music producer, executive producer and performer, and he even makes a cameo appearance.
Tinsley somehow found time between his many roles with the film and touring with Dmb this summer to tell us about the making of his unconventional first film, seeing "magic" happen in the recording studio and Dmb's influences on his creative process.

Boyd Tinsley’s name and face are known to millions of admirers all over the globe – but not for his film work. Tinsley has spent the past two decades of his life as the violinist for the Dave Matthews Band, going platinum dozens of times over. But with the release of Faces In The Mirror, Tinsley enters into the world of film for the first time, adding producer and screenwriter to his resume. Though the actors in Faces don’t sing, it’s almost a sort of cinematic opera. The film follows the personal odyssey of Ben (Ryan Orr), a man who has just lost his father – the story of Ben coming to terms with his tragedy is told primarily through songs (also written by Tinsley). The end result is an unusual, slightly surreal film that Tinsley refers to as a “psychedelic drama,” incorporating music, poetry, and a minimum of...

Miami — South Beach's sexiest beach bash took Miami's SoFi district by storm on Thursday as Robbie Rivera presented his seventh annual Juicy Beach party on the infamous Nikki Beach. Midway through the marathon 17-hour Miami Music Week event, the bikini-clad crowd was treated to back-to-back-to-back sets by Joachim Garraud, Alex Gaudino and, of course, Rivera.
Garruad debuted massive new tracks from his upcoming album, Invasion 2011, bringing his signature edgy stab synth (fans know it from his work on David Guetta tracks like "World Is Mine" and "Love Is Gone"). Garruad's sound is captivating, and the enthusiastic crowd responded by waving hands and fists high in the air.
Next to hit the decks was Gaudino, who wowed the crowd with remixes of Katie Perry's "Firework" and...

For many, the Dave Matthews Band is summer. So, after a 20-year kinship with the band on the road, what exactly would a Dmb-less summer look like for devoted fans? Lucky for "Dave heads," they'll no longer have to ponder that prospect.
In 2010 the band announced they would be taking a hiatus from touring in 2011, but in the months that followed, an announcement was made that the multifaceted group — which includes Dave Matthews, Carter Beauford, Stefan Lessard and Boyd Tinsley, as well as Rashawn Ross, Tim Reynolds and Jeff Coffin (who stepped in after the death of founding member LeRoi Moore) — would be headlining a four-stop, multi-act Caravan festival from June to September.
On February 22, members of Dmb's fan club, the Warehouse, received a cryptic "save the date" e-mail...

Back when the Dave Matthews Band first made a splash on the national music scene, who would have thought that they would eventually blossom into the stadium-packing powerhouse they currently are? Not only did Dmb develop a rightfully-earned reputation for being a killer live act (blending together elements of rock, jazz, funk and borrowed bits of rhythmic influences from around the world), but they also managed to become a modern rock radio-ruling juggernaut with a boatload of big singles and a healthy dose of chart-topping albums. Their rise to the top of the commercial ladder began on this day in 1994, when their first studio album Under the Table and Dreaming was released.
Produced by Steve Lillywhite, Under the Table and Dreaming managed not only to capture the band's effervescent live presence but also harnessed Matthews' impressive skills as a songwriter. People flocked to Under the Table and Dreaming because the...

This is from the Ephphatha blog:
New college kids moved into my building this term. One of them is an African-American male, Joe (that’s pertinent to this post-racial story).
Sunday night, four policemen showed up because they’d received a call that there was an Black man with a rifle at the window of Joe’s apartment. Joe explained that he had indeed been standing near the window, but not with a rifle, with his violin.
The policemen asked Joe to play and he obliged them. Then, one of the policemen, who happened to be African-American also, asked if he could see Joe’s violin. Joe gave it to him and the Black policeman began playing a plucky bluegrass number with elan.
Isn’t that…I dunno…funny? Joe went from Malcolm X to Boyd Tinsley in one visit. And Fiddler showed up to check him out.
This made me smile.

It's MTV's World Cup of Rock! The World Cup is the greatest sporting event on the planet, a super-sized stage where legends are born with every strike of the ball, where infamy is just a moment away and where the dreams of millions live or die by the minute. That's why, in the spirit of the 2010 MTV Musical March Madness competition, we've created "The World Cup (Of Rock)," a FIFA-style tournament that takes 16 of the biggest nations — rock-wise (sorry Algeria) — and pits them against one another to determine just which is the most rockingly awesome. Heavyweights like the U.S.A., England, France and Germany are all here, but so are a handful of surprisingly strong sleeper countries. As the Cup progresses, we'll be unveiling the match-ups, and it's up to you to vote your favorites through. In the end, only one nation will be left standing: the world champion of rock.

Dave Matthews Band are giving away their new song. Starting on April 14, when they kick off their summer tour, until a week ahead, they give fans a chance to download for free "Funny the Way It Is", the first single off their upcoming album "Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King".
"It's a pretty song and it talks about a lot of things," vocalist/guitarist Dave Matthews says of the new single. "[It's about] death and love and all those things ... but it also talks about the world of opposites that we are in."
"That's the idea behind the song - that we will spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to save a kid's life," the singer continues. "And then we will drop bombs out of the sky on each other and blow a whole school of them to pieces without a thought. And that's a funny world. ... That's why it's called 'Funny the Way It Is'.

A bus driver for the Dave Matthews Band has pleaded guilty to dumping 800 pounds of human waste onto a sightseeing boat on Illinois' Chicago River. Earlier Thursday, Stefan Wohl was sentenced to 18 months probation and 150 hours of community service. He was also fined the maximum of $10,000, which will be paid to Friends Of The Chicago River, a conservation group. Wohl, 42, was charged with reckless conduct and discharging contaminates to cause water pollution. Authorities said that on August 8, when Wohl was alone in a bus used by band violinist Boyd Tinsley, he emptied the septic tank while driving across the open grating deck of the Kinzie Street bridge. The waste poured onto the open deck of the Chicago's Little Lady tour boat, which was passing below with more than 100 passengers. Prosecutors said Wohl had denied discharging waste on the bridge, but surveillance tapes from buildings in the area were used to zero in on the bus. The band's members, who cooperated with authorities during the investigation, since donated $50,000 to the Friends of the Chicago River and $50,000 to the Chicago Park District.
