There are actors who direct films, and there are those who establish themselves as real-deal filmmakers. In the first category we find John Slattery, a fine actor who, after a respectable career as “that guy,” reached a new level at age 45 thanks to Mad Men. The AMC series was still on the air when Slattery directed his first film, God’s Pocket, in 2014, and he returns now, nearly 10 years on, with the dark comedy Maggie Moore(s). Following his on-screen reunion with Mad Men co-star Jon Hamm in last year’s Confess, Fletch, Slattery here casts the actor in the lead role as Jordan Sanders, a lonely police chief investigating the connection between the murders of two women, each named Maggie Moore.
The first Maggie to die (played by Emily Blunt) is married to Jay (Micah Stock), the owner of a restaurant franchise who plans to become the Howard Schultz of submarine sandwiches.

President Donald Trump’s former fixer Michael Cohen threatened to sue CNBC to get his boss higher placement on the cable network’s list of top business leaders after Cohen’s efforts to rig the polling failed, The Wall Street Journal reported.
Cohen threatened to sue on the dubious legal grounds of “ignoring the will of the people,” WSJ reported, which may explain why the news network did not respond to the threat, and why Trump did not sue, according to the report.
CNBC declined to comment.
The kerfuffle erupted when Trump failed to break into the Top 100 finalists on CNBC’s ranking of people who it determined had the most profound impact on business and finance since 1989, which was the year CNBC went live.

Washington — Howard Schultz is stepping down as executive chairman of Starbucks, increasing speculation that he will make a run for president in 2020.
Since joining the company in the 1980s, Schultz saw Starbucks grow from 11 outlets to 28,000 stores, along the way changing the expectations of consumers when it comes to coffee consumption.
He also has been noted for his socially conscious approach to the company, and he has long been floated as a prospect for a presidential run. He certainly did not dissuade that talk on Monday. When asked by The New York Times whether he would consider it, he said, “I intend to think about a range of options, and that could include public service. But I’m a long way from making any decisions about the future.”

If you’re ready to get out of election mode and into the holiday spirit, Starbucks is here to help, ushering in the return of their annual red cups on Thursday.
And if last year’s minimalist design had you feeling Grinchy (or, like certain factions of our society, downright outraged), the coffee chain has done a complete 180 — serving up seasonal beverages in brand new, ornately decorated cups. While we had previously reported on a leaked photo of the new design, it turns out this was just one of 13 different versions available, each curated by a different artist from across the country.

Starbucks is hoping an uplifting new show will generate some positive press. The coffee mega-chain is behind Upstanders, its first-ever branded web series.
Upstanders takes on topics like homelessness, food waste, and Islamophobia by sharing the stories of people who refused to sit idly by when presented with the world’s problems. Each of the show’s ten episodes profiles a new upstander, and viewers are urged make their own positive contributions and link up with the causes that matter most to them.
Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz seems to understand that Upstanders won’t roll up a massive view count, but he seems more interested in telling heartwarming stories and improving his company’s brand image. “This is a gift because people will feel better about the American story and be reminded that the promise of America is alive and well in your own neighborhood,” he told Fortune.

Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz is mulling a run for president, headed straight for Hillary Clinton’s right flank, just as Joe Biden aims for her left. Schultz, 62, has no formal political experience. None. Zero. Nada. But he is one of the most charismatic and inspiring individuals I have met. Also one of the most competitive, and most accomplished. (A good place for full disclosure: I know Howard Schultz personally, and the venture firm which he cofounded but does not run is an investor in TheWrap. Read on, or don’t.) If you have ever seen Schultz in action, rallying his employees when.

Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz announced the end of the company’s “Race Together” campaign in stores on Sunday night in a memo to staff. Employees will no longer be encouraged to write the slogan on customers’ cups after a weeklong backlash aimed at the behemoth coffee chain’s efforts to open up a discussion on race issues. “I know this hasn’t been easy for any of you – let me assure you that we didn’t expect universal praise,” chief executive Schultz wrote in a letter to staff and released by the company on Sunday. “We leaned in because we believed that starting this dialogue.

Unfortunately, we doubt a venti iced latte would help to quell the tension. A cringe-worthy moment ensued on Tuesday's All in With Chris Hayes when CBS Sunday Morning's Nancy Giles and culture commentator and DJ Jay Smooth were discussing race relations in context with the rampant criticism over Starbucks' #RaceTogether campaign. The two made a number of valid points during their discussion (Smooth said Howard Schultz's "intensions seem noble" but is concerned whether the tough topic "can be addressed by having chats in coffee shops") but it was about five minutes into their chat when things got really awkward after an accidental stereotype was tossed around,...

On Dec. 9, 2014, Howard Schultz and his wife were watching the television coverage surrounding the Ferguson protests. "I went to bed and I couldn't sleep the whole night," Schultz tells People in an interview at a Starbucks store in New York. "I keep a journal by my bed for ideas, thoughts, things I want to remember. And I wrote down: We have to do something." The next morning, the Starbucks CEO called a companywide meeting at his Seattle headquarters where, for more than an hour, employees passed a microphone and shared personal stories about race. After months of listening to similar stories across the country,...

It’s not particularly difficult to find a Starbucks (they’re in grocery stores, bookstores, malls, office buildings, airports – Google it right now and you’ll probably find a handful within a mile radius of wherever you are).
There’s never thaaat long of a line to wait in at Starbucks – even during peak ‘Bucks hours. Some Starbucks have drive thrus too. And contrary to what the joke has become, baristas don’t mess up your order that often (though they will mess up your name. That part is true.)
But who cares about all that: Starbucks is about to make things even easier. Starbucks is going to deliver.
