What began as a single segment titled “Love and the Television Set” on the anthology series “Love, American Style,” grew to become a top ten sitcom that lasted 11 seasons and defined “cool” for a generation. Set in 1950s Milwaukee, “Happy Days” debuted on January 15, 1974, and, although it was only a moderate success initially, became one of the most iconic TV series of its time.
Ron Howard was already a well-known TV star from his days as Opie Taylor on “The Andy Griffith Show,” so it’s not surprising this series centered around his all-American teenage character Richie Cunningham and his middle-class family. In fact, Howard’s appearance in the “Love, American Style” episode led to his casting by George Lucas in the equally nostalgic “American Graffiti” in 1973 — the success of which prompted ABC to pick up “Happy Days.” But it was the character of greaser Arthur “Fonzie” Fonzarelli (Henry Winkler...

Elvis Presley‘s music and style were heavily featured throughout the television series Happy Days. The series, which focused on the decades of the 1950s and 60s, was a throwback to simpler times. The music reflected the eras and included some of Presley’s greatest hits. However, as the series’ cast ended its 11-season run, one Presley song took on a different meaning as it closed the book on the lives of the Cunningham Family and their friends.

The final Happy Days episode wrapped up over a decade of stories surrounding Howard and Marion Cunningham (Tom Bosley and Marion Ross), their children Richie (Ron Howard) and Joanie (Erin Moran), and their friends.

Emmy winner Henry Winkler was honored at the 35th Israel Film Festival luncheon on Friday, April 29. The “Barry” star received the Iff Career Achievement Award at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles. Mark Feuerstein, who played Winkler’s son on the USA series “Royal Pains” from 2009 to 2016, bestowed the honor to his TV dad. The two are pictured above on the red carpet for Friday’s event.
“I am very happy that you thought of me,” Winkler told the audience of festival organizers, sponsors and invited guests. “Film takes us to places we could never go. It creates a life that you dream about. It shows us how the world is living. To be an artist is to hold a mirror up to the world in order to give them a view of who we are as a community. “I didn’t really think there were that many people out there who were interested in Mr. Miyagi,” Kevin Derek says. “But (it turns out) millions and millions of people are.”

Chicago – When is comes to appreciating life, one great practitioner is Anson Williams, better known as the character “Potsie” from the 1970s TV series “Happy Days.” Williams wants to remind everybody to “pay it forward,” as he does in highlighting his unlikely mentor in his new book, “Singing to a Bulldog.”
The focus for Anson Williams is on Willie Turner, a custodian he worked with in a department store. Willie gave the 15-year-old Williams life lessons, as he was navigating the road to being an actor. Even though Turner was illiterate and a drinker, he stuck with and guided Williams, which provided the impetus for the young actor and singer to find his path.

I understand "To Have and To Hold" is a phrase that is highly connected with love due to its place in wedding vows, but this hour of Mad Men couldn't have convinced me more that the meaning of the two verbs inside the phrase can be play such different roles within a marriage.
Don Draper uses power tactics to control his wives. To have them means serious business to him, so he uses what he feels is ownership to his advantage. To hold his wife, in this case Megan, seems like a chore to Don most of the time. After an indeterminate amount of time, holding his bride is no longer want interests him, so he needs to find that intrigue elsewhere.

This week’s Mad Men sees wars fought overseas, in the boardroom, and in the bedroom. Here’s Frances’ review of The Collaborators…

6.3 The Collaborators
If Edwin Starr had posed his ‘War’ question to this week’s Mad Men writers, absolutely nothing would not have been their answer. What is war good for? Why, for providing a palate of parallels and metaphors through which to explore late-sixties gender and workplace relations, Mr Starr. (Uh-huh. Yeah. Say it again y’all. And so on.)
We join Don and co. a month after we left them on the cusp of 1968. The North Koreans had captured the USS Pueblo, the Vietcong had attacked the Us embassy in Saigon, and Pete Campbell had run out of toilet paper. In short, things in Mad Men were looking bleak.
Don’s workplace battle was being fought with sweaty Herb from Jaguar,...
