Citizens in the U.K. are on the verge of the biggest — and funniest — biennial comedy show charity in the world. Red Nose Day, cofounded and organized by writer-director Richard Curtis, kicks off Friday on the BBC with a full seven-and-a-half-telethon hours of comedy. This edition will feature all stripes of playful fun (including a parody of La La Land‘s opening song “Another Day of Sun,” set in the perpetually cloudy London), but the centerpiece is obviously Curtis’s short film sequel to his most beloved film, Love Actually, entitled Red Nose Day Actually.

Movies for Foodies, a regular film series put on by Chef Liz Schuster, Chef Steve Schmidt, and the other talented chefs at Tenacious Eats, is back in a brand new location! It’s The Ozark Theater at 103 E Lockwood Ave. in downtown Webster Groves. I’m super-excited to be going back to the old Ozark, which when I was a kid was known as the Webster Groves Cinema. It’s been closed now for decades but movies I saw there in the ‘70s include: Taxi Driver, Shampoo, Land That Time Forgot, Carrie, Demon Seed, Terror In The Wax Museum,...

On behalf of Janie and the entire family:
Thank you. I also want to insert my personal gratitude to you. I will post updates as received from the family. Services will be held in Dallas. It’s been a busy few days, but your messages kept me completely refreshed. You people are special,” Mack wrote on Facebook.

Ray Price, the country singer behind such hits as “Talk to Your Heart,” has died at age 87, Billboard reports. Billboard cites a Facebook post from country radio veteran Bill Mack, who has served as the family’s spokesman in recent days. Also read: Hollywood’s Notable Deaths of 2013 “Ray Price left for heaven at 4:43 p.m. Central time,” Mack wrote. “He went in perfect peace.” Erroneous reports surfaced Sunday that Price, who entered hospice care on Thursday, had died. Ho, ho, ho! On this Christmas Eve, the Movie Geeks want to make sure we steer you towards the right festive movies this holiday season and came up with these ten. Several honorable mentions didn’t make the cut such as Life and Adventures of Santa Claus, Santa’s Slay, How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966), Emmit Otter’s Jug Band Christmas, Jingle All the Way, The Family Stone, The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Polar Express, A Christmas Carol (1984), A Muppet Christmas Carol, Babes in Toyland (1961), Holiday Inn, It’s a Wonderful Life, Scrooge (1971), or Home Alone. Not to worry – they were considered but didn’t pass muster with the cinema elves. Come back on Christmas for our not-so traditional holiday movies lineup.
Now, for the list:
10. Love, Actually (2003)

Previously on Chicago Fire, Clarice broke Shay’s heart, Severide followed the bro code and got Shay’s permission to hook up with her ex, Dawson still loves Casey, and Severide took Billy Mack’s advice and became a pop star so they’d give him the drugs for free.
The episode starts with Chez Shay and our heroine is sitting eating her non- post coital yogurt and looking amazing in her blue plaid shirt. What are the chances that Leslie Shay is a succubus because her eye color is just this side of the blue-eyed Bo? Excuse me while I lose ten or a thousand minutes pondering the lovely of her eyes. Ok, let’s get back to this scene because it’s a really cheeky nod to the last time Corinne was in the apartment.
First we have the roomie who didn’t hook up sitting alone having breakfast.

It's December 22 and, in the immortal words of Billy Mack, Christmas is all around. Although there a just a few short days until the holiday arrives steeped in eggnog and carols and jolly fat men in bright red suits, there's still some time to cram in a fair amount of Christmas-movie watching.
But what will you pop in your DVD player or tune to on your tele (24 hours of "A Christmas Story" on TNT kicks off at 8 p.m. December 24, people!)? Will you opt for a classic like "It's a Wonderful Life" or "Miracle on 34th Street," something newer like "Love Actually," "Home Alone" or "Elf"... or even something a tad more unconventional like "Gremlins" or "Die Hard"? Or -- and if this is the case, more power to you -- will you hit up your DVR to watch one of those delightful Lifetime or ABC Family original Christmas flicks:...

10. With Honors (1994)
Not a film that pops up on most holiday lists, however, With Honors exudes the quintessential holiday spirit with a memorable final act, thoroughly laced with virtue, love and friendship. With Honors is the story of smug Harvard student; Montgomery Kessler (the name aptly characterizes Brendan Fraser) who meets squatter Simon (the one and only Joe Pesci) in the basement of the school library after his computer crashes jeopardizing his ticket to success – his final thesis. The one hard copy lands in Simon’s hands, and here’s the hook – for every day’s shelter and food that Monty provides, Simon will give him on page of his thesis back. A ransom of sorts that climaxes with Monty’s realization of what is truly worth striving for in life. This early 90’s film feels like a hiccup to the mastery of the great John Hughes’ movies of the 80’s.

The other day, Andrew O’Hehir wrote on Salon that the horse biopic, which he loved, is “a work of creepy, half-hilarious master-race propaganda almost worthy of Leni Riefenstahl, and all the more effective because it presents as a family-friendly yarn about a nice lady and her horse.”
Roger Ebert disagrees, and was compelled to call O’Hehir out in print, writing, “He has nevertheless written a review of ‘Secretariat’ so bizarre I cannot allow it to pass unnoticed.” Ebert dissects O’Hehir’s review point by point, concluding with, “I have no theories about why it was written. The star of Stephen Poliakoff's forthcoming Glorious 39 on his neuroses, playing educated toffs and why he digs David Hare
"A machiavellian dandy . . . Pure coldheartedness . . . Fabulously insincere." As I read out reviews of an old Bill Nighy performance, the actor grimaces and drums his knuckles on the table. "If ever a face was made for villainy, it's Bill Nighy's," I continue. "Wow," he murmurs. "Nighy's decadently long jaw and narrow, sneaky eyes serve him well . . ." He snorts, amused. "Sneaky eyes! Long decadent jaw! My God. I didn't know I had a decadent jaw."
Perhaps it is how Glorious 39 unfolds around him that makes you never quite trust Nighy as Alexander Keyes, a devoted father and aristocratic Conservative MP in Stephen Poliakoff's sumptuous new thriller about appeasement, set on the eve of the second world war. But perhaps Nighy has a singular talent for projecting unreliability into charming characters.

A little bit of something for everyone, especially romantics, is found in this hilarious comedy. I.m just an old softie, but I greatly enjoyed the storyline about platonic love that features Bill Nighy as a boozy, burnt out rock star. It.s an anthology film with each story turning up in the other and they.re all lovely. Both Christmas and love are in the air in jolly old England. The film covers various stories of love. Aging rocker Billy Mack (Bill Nighy) is promoting his latest single, a Christmas variation on the Trogg.s Love is all Around, and playing havoc on his long suffering manager Joe (Gregor Fisher). Juliet (Kiera Knightley) and Peter (Chiwetel Ejiofor) have just been married...
