Showing some love to her French fans, Vanessa Hudgens showed up at the premiere of “Gimme Shelter” in Paris on Sunday evening (October 26).
The “High School Musical” starlet donned a long spaghetti strap metallic-sequined gown as she posed up a storm outside Le Grand Rex Theatre with director Ronald Krauss and Adam Lablack.
Earlier this year, Vanessa chatted with Nylon magazine about her experience gaining fifteen pounds, cutting her hair and wearing lip and nose rings for the gig.
Hudgens explained, “I loved looking into the mirror and seeing myself with short hair and bad skin and tattoos. The uglier I could make myself, the more giggly I would get on the inside.”...

Director Ron Krauss came to the idea of making Gimme Shelter, a movie about a New Jersey women’s shelter, by chance when a friend told him about the shelter’s founder, Kathleen Difiore. Curiosity and appreciation, not his hunger for a new film idea, brought him to the shelter. Before long, Krauss knew the story of Difiore and her girls needed to reach a broader audience.
Ron Krauss Interview On 'Gimme Shelter'
On one of his visits to the shelter, Krauss met a young girl named Darlesha. When he returned one day, he learned that she’d been admitted to the hospital. “She had walked 30 miles to get to that shelter, 30 miles, walking, for days, not eating, with no jacket on, freezing cold. She was three months pregnant. So her baby was traumatized, but anyway it was alright. So I got inspired by this,” Krauss told Uinterview exclusively.

Rosario Dawson stars in Ron Krauss' Gimme Shelter as June, a drug-addled mother to a daughter she had too young and with too few prospects to give them both a future.
Rosario Dawson Exclusive On 'Gimme Shelter'
The character, embodied by a transformed Dawson, is the antagonist to Apple (Vanessa Hudgens), her 15-year-old daughter who runs away to her absent father in the hopes of starting a new life – only to find herself pregnant. For Dawson, becoming June included remembering what she witnessed in her childhood.
“I think having grown up in New York in the 80s and 90s during the crack epidemic; the landscape was quite full of people who were suffering from this addiction, so I had a very strong idea of what I should look like and how I should behave,” she told Uinterview exclusively. She became a star thanks to the High School Musical series and then went onto break out of the Disney mold by taking on more serious roles in films like The Frozen Ground and Spring Breakers. However, nothing will prepare you for how far Vanessa Hudgens goes to portray Apple Bailey in Gimme Shelter.
Written and directed by Ronald Krauss, the film follows Apple as she escapes from her abusive mother June (Rosario Dawson) and searches for her father, Tom Fitzpatrick (Brendan Fraser), who is now a Wall Street banker with a family of his own. But when April discovers she is pregnant, she ends up running away from Tom and later finds a place to stay at a shelter for pregnant young women.

Gimme Gimme: Krauss Returns to Human Interest Woes in Latest Effort
Writer/director Ron Krauss returns to the human interest vein that defined his last outing as director, 2010’s Amexica with a based on a true tale of woe, Gimme Shelter. Working with a notably high profile cast this time around, there’s certainly a genuine sincerity with the presentation at hand, which unfortunately can’t gracefully override its more manipulative moments in a tale that surely inspires empathy but works only because it is granted the ability to conclude with a rosy-tinted fairy tale glow.

With no one to turn to, she seeks out the assistance of her estranged father (Brendan Fraser), who is now raising a second family with his new wife (Stephanie Szostak) and has...

Hitting theatres this week is Ronald Krauss’s Gimme Shelter, a new independent drama that’s based on a compelling true story.
Featuring two superb performances from stars Vanessa Hudgens and Rosario Dawson, the film focuses on Agnes “Apple” Bailey (Hudgens), a pregnant teenager who runs away from her abusive mother June (Dawson) in order to find out who her real father is. Once she finds him though, he doesn’t approve of her having a baby and she finds herself once again on the run and with nowhere to go. After a car accident lands her in the hospital, she ends up taking up residence in a shelter for pregnant young women. It’s not long though before June finds Apple and once she does she’s determined not to let her go again.
Earlier this week, Gimme Shelter had its red carpet premiere at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

Chicago – The balancing act between reality and drama in based-on-truth narratives is as delicate as walking the high wire. Pour in too much drama, and a story can feel like a soap opera. “Gimme Shelter,” although earnestly and achingly performed, has that sudsy protocol.
Rating: 2.5/5.0
The film is about a sanctuary, in this case the harboring of single mothers during their unexpected pregnancies. It focuses on one particular case, a teenager raised on the streets by a drug addicted mother. When the teen finds herself with child, she runs away and eventually ends up in a shelter set up by a devout fellow traveler. The key in this scenario is the transition from street tough to expectant mother, which the film handles awkwardly. The relationships portrayed are not warm at any level, and are delivered through overwrought acting rather than any solid connection. The subject matter needed to be closer to the truth,...

In Gimme Shelter, we see Vanessa Hudgens like we've never seen her before. But is the film itself actually worth seeing? The movie, opening in theaters on Friday, has the actress playing Apple, a homeless 16-year-old mother-to-be who finds help at a suburban shelter. Directed by Ron Krauss, the drama also stars Rosario Dawson as Apple's mom and Brendan Fraser as her dad, a rich Wall Street man she's never met. Here's a sampling of what the critics are saying... • "Though the arc of the film is as saccharine as a Precious Moments figurine, Hudgens is too honest to believe in simple, happy endings," writes Amy Nicholson of the Village Voice. • "Writer-director...

In 1981, Kathy Difiore took in her first pregnant teen. In the three decades that have followed, she's overcome daunting odds to form Several Sources Shelters, a charity organization designed to aid young mothers in need. Gimme Shelter , which hits theaters in a limited release this Friday, serves as writer/director Ron Krauss' tribute to Difiore and her work, bringing to the screen the story of fictionalized (but based on fact) Agnes "Apple" Bailey. Stepping into Apple's shoes is Vanessa Hudgens with Apple's mother, June Bailey, played by Rosario Dawson. Chicago – The opportunity for a new film to also take up a cause is one of the advantages of the movies as mass art. “Gimme Shelter” is the based-on-truth story of a runaway pregnant teen named Apple (Vanessa Hudgens) who needs the titular sanctuary to give birth. Director Ron Krauss leads an all-star cast, including Ann Dowd (“Compliance”), who portrayed the real-life facilitator of the shelter for single mothers, Kathy Difiore.

Continuing her postgraduate reinvention after High School Musical, Vanessa Hudgens tackles the role of a troubled teen in Gimme Shelter, a drama whose aimed-for intensity misses the mark at nearly every turn. It takes chutzpah to use a title that’s indelibly linked to great artists, and the nod to the Rolling Stones and documentarians Albert and David Maysles hardly serves writer-director Ronald Krauss well. However “based on inspiring events” his feature may be, and although a few of its sequences attain a certain streetwise naturalism, the story unfolds in large part through awkward contrivance. Despite having just ten released film credits to her name, Vanessa Hudgens is a name known both throughout the industry and the world.
Without a doubt, the trilogy of High School Musical films are a big part of why her name is so well known. She made her feature debut with a small role in Catherine Hardwicke and Nikki Reed’s Thirteen, and went on to star in the failed 2004 Thunderbirds movie. But it was 2006’s High School Musical that really launched her career.
She took the female lead of Gabriella Montez, opposite Zac Efron’s Troy Bolton, and the rest is history. Within the next two years, there would be a further two High School Musical films, cementing Hudgens’ status as a bankable icon for Disney.
But being a bankable icon of the High School Musical variety like that naturally has its downsides. For whatever reason, there will always...

Vanessa Hudgens has opened up about what she did to prepare for her upcoming film "Gimme Shelter". In an interview taped for the February 10 episode of "Rachael Ray", the 23-year-old actress revealed that she stayed in a homeless shelter for two weeks before filming the flick.
"For Gimme Shelter, my character ends up at this pregnant, homeless teen shelter that's actually ran in New Jersey by a woman and I actually went and stayed in the shelter for two weeks before I started filming," she said. "So I mean like, I lived there with all the girls, with all the kids, so I think that it's really interesting because you find so much more about yourself."
Talking further about her troubled character, Hudgens said, "[Rosario Dawson and I] look so messed up in this movie." The former flame of Zac Efron added, "I actually cut my own hair for this movie. I did that to myself,...

The indie drama Gimme Shelter will go into production at the end of this month in Connecticut, and it has Brendan Fraser set to star, with Vanessa Hudgens now likely appearing as well. Ron Krauss wrote and will direct; the film follows a pregnant homeless girl (Hudgens' role) who "flees her abusive mother and seeks out her biological father. He first takes her in but then throws her out when she refuses to abort her child." The dad is Brendan Fraser, and it sounds like the sort of not so massively sympathetic role that he doesn't often play. So that could be interesting. As a side note, I understand why the film is titled as it is, but at this point it is really time to leave certain Rolling Stones songs alone, and 'Gimme Shelter' is one of them. [THR [1]] After the break, Seth MacFarlane's Ted gets one more,...

"High School Musical" made her career, but as of late, Vanessa Hudgens has been doing everything in her power to wash away the memories of the tween pop phenomenon. That kind of early success can define a young actress and it's obvious from her recent career choices, the last thing Hudgens wants to be is a cute face with a pair of rockin' vocal chords.
Her latest is a step in the right direction: Hudgens will join Brendan Fraser in the indie drama "Gimme Shelter," which Hollywood Reporter notes will start shooting at the end of this month. Directed by Ron Krauss (who has a few low-budget indies under his belt), the film tells the story of a pregnant, homeless teenager (Hudgens) who abandons her abusive mother and finds solace with her biological father (Fraser).

Hollywoodnews.com: Vanessa Hudgens continues to seek out roles that will challenge her as an actress and distance her from the “High School Musical” franchise that launched her career.
The latest, “Gimme Shelter,” is an indie drama that casts clean-cut Hudgens as a pregnant, homeless teenager who goes in search of her biological father. THR reports that Brendan Fraser is set to star as the father, who demands that Hudgens’ character abort the baby.
Heavy stuff from writer-director Ron Krauss. Can Hudgenss handle it? She recent;y took a big step co-starring in Zack Snyder’s “Sucker Punch,” an she has another action tentpole under her belt with “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island,” which opens in September.
But this will be her first shot at a pure drama. We’re eager to see how she handles tough material.

Tucson and Phoenix: Prepare to be rocked, shocked and defiled. Blasting its way into its third — and biggest — year on Sept. 18-25, the Arizona Underground Film Festival is a cacophonous concoction of angry transsexuals, bumbling hit men, slacker superheroes, living dolls, aliens, dead hookers, adventure-seeking blondes and other crazies.
This year the fest is screening 30 feature films, some of which are making their U.S. and even world debuts.
