Actor Joe Mantegna has previously recorded a commentary for the 1996 Stephen King adaptation Thinner with the film’s director Tom Holland (whose other credits include Fright Night and Child’s Play)… but that didn’t stop him from sitting down to record a new commentary for Scream Factory’s upcoming Blu-ray release of Thinner! This time, Mantegna was joined by producer Mitchell Galin – and we’ll get to hear what they had to say about Thinner when the Blu-ray is released on January 23rd. Copies are available for pre-order through the Scream Factory website and on Amazon.
Scripted by Tom Holland and Michael McDowell, Thinner is based on a novel King wrote under his Richard Bachman pen name and tells a story of supernatural terror as one man faces a countdown to the ultimate excruciating payback. A 109-year-old Romani man, hell-bent on revenge for the death of his daughter, exacts a...

Director Jared Cohn has been carving something of a name for himself in the direct to DVD market for a good few years now, usually delivering fun low-budget genre films that at least have one great idea on which to hang the film. And Devil’s Revenge is no different.
The hook here? The absolutely Amazing creature designs by Vincent J. Guastini which, along with the brilliant flashbacks to a grim and grisly past, keep you watching way past the over indulgent, overwrought, dialogue-heavy first half. The brief glimpses of something greater giving the audience hope that the rest of the film will – eventually – follow suit. It doesn’t but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to enjoy about this Indiana Jones-esque horror tale.

One of the best things about the horror genre is its ability to divide audiences and create strong, passionate reactions. We may split on a comedy, sure, because we find different things funny, but chances are we won’t carry that experience with us much past when the end credits roll. Horror is different. Love it or hate it, it sticks with us, and when we see a movie that really speaks to us we connect with it in such way so as to believe the filmmaker has made something that’s just for us.
Few filmmakers embody this ideal more than Darren Lynn Bousman: while his recent output of films might not be for everyone, for the people they are for they are really for. After finding success within the studio system thanks to his trilogy of Saw films and his criminally underrated remake of Mother’s Day,...

Getting stuck in an elevator is scary enough, but doing so with a bunch of senior citizens? You can be sure filmmaker Patrick Rea piles on the spooky - plus a little silly - in this teaser for his "It's Hell Getting Old" segment of the Hellevator Man anthology.
Kansas City-based Rea's short stars Kip Niven (Jayhawkers, New Year’s Evil), Joicie Appell (Nailbiter), Victor Raider-Wexler (Minority Report), and Nancy Marcy. It was executive produced by Jennifer Blanc-Biehn, Michael Biehn, and Lony Ruhmann.
The script, written by Rea, deals with four elderly people trapped in an elevator on their way to their 50th Class Reunion, and one of them may have forgotten to take some important medication.
The film was shot in Kansas City, Missouri, and the director of photography was Hanuman Brown-Eagle.

One of I, Frankenstein's biggest sins was that the creature effects, especially with regard to Frankenstein's monster, were pretty run of the mill. Back in the beginning effects artist Vincent J. Guastini had the reins of this bad boy, but unfortunately it was steered out of his hands.
Now Guastini has uploaded an effects/concept reel of what his vision for the film's creatures would have been like. Gotta say it... we like it so much better. What a shock. Check it out for yourselves, and weigh in below.
About I, Frankenstein
From the producers of Underworld, I, Frankenstein follows Frankenstein's monster (Aaron Eckhart) as he becomes involved in a war between two immortal clans. Also starring Bill Nighy (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest), Yvonne Strahovski (TV's "Chuck," TV's "Dexter"), Miranda Otto (The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King,...

A few weeks ago we brought you the first teaser and poster for Vincent J. Guastini's "The Future Executive" segment of Hellevator Man, and now we're back with lots more news, including who'll be playing the anthology's title character.
Blanc/Biehn Productions (Bbp) has completed principal photography with first-time director Vincent J. Guastini on “The Future Executive,” the latest installment of Bbp’s elevator-themed anthology Hellevator Man, which was filmed in Los Angeles.
Bbp has also announced that Scott Schirmer (Found) will be doing a segment entitled "Tear," and WWE Hall of Famer, New York Times best seller, and successful comedian Mick Foley, aka Mankind (pictured above right), is coming on board as the "Hellevator Man" and storyteller himself.
“With Hellevator Man, we want to capture that primal feeling of being trapped in this small box,” said producer Jennifer Blanc-Biehn, “yet explore the open possibilities beyond it.” The film...

When Cabin Fever came out in 2002, it was a sensation among fans of freaky frights. The film packed more than a little punch with its own version of the karate kid, a leg shaving scene that set disposable razor sales back for a year, and a German Shepherd who made Cujo look like a lapdog.
Eli Roth’s Cabin Fever left a legacy hard to live up to, but of course a dumbed-down sequel was released. It was directed by Roth’s Bff Ti West, but one would never guess that after the studio heads got hold of it in the editing room and butchered it.
Regardless, the Cabin Fever name still carries weight so there is a prequel that's out now on demand and will be in theaters on August 1, 2014.

Your ol’ pal (well, I guess for the readers here at Famous Monsters I’m your new pal, seeing as this is my first review here!) Daniel Xiii really digs a flick that piles on the gore, a preference that has existed in me since the glory days of 80’s splatter shockers; so any new release that harkens back to those more extreme, over-the-top days of gallons o’ grue is always welcome in the crypt of Xiii.

Have you ever heard a parent say, “I’m not especially fond of children, but I love my own!”? That’s kind of how I feel about zombies. So when I got the offer from Blanc/Biehn Productions to make my feature directorial debut, guess what…
Yep: zombies!
If you’ve followed my career as a horror critic, you know that while I try to be as fair and balanced as possible, I’m always at a slight disadvantage when reviewing zombie flicks because they’re my least favorite.
So why, when actress-producer-uberwoman Jennifer Blanc-Beihn and highly imaginative executive producer Lony Ruhmann approached me earlier this year about writing and directing a saucy suspenser based on one of Lony’s loglines – “pinup girls vs. zombies” – did I say yes?
Anyone who knows me well enough to know I don’t love zombies should also know that my passion for style,...

I distinctly remember the hype surrounding the release of the original Cabin Fever movie – written and directed by then newcomer Eli Roth, the film was touted as a new breed of horror, made for genre fans by a genre fan. I also remember when the film was eventually released there was somewhat of a backlash, after all it wasn’t much more than a mix of backwoods horror and “melt movie”. But the film did well enough to warrant a sequel which, after wrangles between director Ti West (House of the Devil) and the films producers – who re-edited the film to such an extent that West disowned the movie, was released in 2009. Slammed by even those who loved the original film, Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever...

Though we don't yet have an official date, we do know that 2014 will see the release of Cabin Fever: Patient Zero, the first of two more upcoming sequels to Eli Roth's 2002 debut. Those worried that the practical effects from the first two films will be thrown out the window in favor of CGI will be happy to know that makeup master Vincent J. Guastini handled the effects for the film, and he's just revealed several images and videos that give us a glimpse at the gruesome carnage that will be on display in it.
As we spotted over on Dread Central, Guastini recently opened up about his work on Patient Zero, indicating that we're in store for one hell of a bloody sequel. He describes that pretty much every character in the film will be infected, mangled and mutilated by the time the end credits roll, custom made dummies...

For those of you who still don’t fear the boogeyman, I’ve got the perfect movie that shows why fearing the darkness under your bed is necessary – Steven C. Miller’s Under The Bed. Blending the heartfelt bonding of a family horror film with the absolute insanity of a gory creature feature, Miller’s film is one of the most underrated horror flicks of the year so far, and one I’m hoping I can spread the word about as quickly as possible. But not only should you try and catch Miller’s Under The Bed, but you should be on the lookout for anything this guy’s name is attached to. People always discuss rising stars in horror, and there’s no doubt in my mind Miller’s name belongs towards the top of that list.

Steven C. Miller’s Under the Bed will start its limited theatrical release this Friday and we have a number of special features coming up. The first is an exclusive Q&A with costume designer Ambre Wrigley, thanks to FancyDressCostumes.co.uk. In this feature, Ambre talks about her fear of monsters as a child, taking inspiration from music, and modifying costumes for horror movies.
How did you get involved with Under The Bed?
Ambre Wrigley: I responded to an ad looking for a costume designer. I met with Steven Miller (Director), Will Clevinger (Producer), and Ben Rabbers (Upm). We interviewed for about 15 minutes until they said they’d get back to me and about 20 minutes into my drive home I got a call offering me the gig. I was so excited about it I couldn’t stop grinning for days. I’d just landed my first full feature as a costume designer.

With filming of Blanc/Biehn Productions' remake of Hidden in the Woods set to begin July 1st in and around Houston, Texas, all the major players are lining up, and handling effects will be Vincent Guastini's V.G.P. Effects & Design Studio.
Hidden in the Woods star Michael Biehn met Guastini when they briefly worked together on Sushi Girl (in which Hitw co-star Andy Mackenzie also appeared), and Biehn was so impressed with V.G.P.'s work, the producers asked Guastini to come on board and supervise with Evelyn Belmar and Vanessa Cartier.
