Nope, this isn’t the new Bong Joon-ho movie, but a 3-D oldie from 1982. Although it’s by no means a great picture, fans equipped for Blu-ray 3-D will want to take a look — the depth effects fashioned with the over’n’under Sterevision system are some of the best yet. Stan Winston provides director Charles Band with the ‘Alien’ rip-off title critters, and added interest is provided via an early appearance by Demi Moore, who sleepwalks through her part but certainly looks good. A full complement of extras tell the making-of story; the feature is also encoded in 2-D, for really imaginative viewers.

The Originals, Season 2, Episode 13, “The Devil is Damned”
Written by Christopher Hollier and Julie Plec
Directed by Lance Anderson
Airs Mondays at 8pm (Et) on The CW
On this week’s The Originals, Freya reunites with Finn, Klaus and Kol make amends, Hope displays some impressive new abilities, and Hayley and Jackson fight to protect their werewolves from Marcel’s starving vampires.
Whenever The Originals focuses heavily on the show’s titular characters and their relationships to one another, the result is usually an excellent episode. “The Devil is Damned” really delves into the relationship between Klaus and Kol, and, unsurprisingly, the episode is stunning and emotional.
Daniel Sharman, undeniably one of season two’s best additions, easily steals the episode. Kol’s struggle to reconcile the part of himself that fears Klaus with the part that loves his brother is a very human and sympathetic plight; Sharman makes Kol...

The Originals, Season 2, Episode 1, “Rebirth”
Written by Julie Plec and Marguerite MacIntyre
Directed by Lance Anderson
Airs Mondays at 8pm on The CW
On this week’s The Originals, Elijah coaxes Klaus and Hayley out of the shadows, Marcel builds an army, Davina meets a handsome stranger, and Cami attempts to separate herself from the vampires.
There’s no fear of the sophomore slump here–The Originals is a show that clearly knows what it’s doing. The second season opener is just as intense, well-acted, and well-shot as the very best episodes of the first season. Even comparisons to sister show The Vampire Diaries are no longer relevant here, as The Originals is quickly becoming its own beast.
It’d be difficult for a show set in New Orleans to be anything less than beautiful (even if it is, usually, filmed in Georgia), and “Rebirth” is quite lovely. The...

The Vampire Diaries, Season 5, Episode 15: “Gone Girl”
Written by Melinda Hsu Taylor
Directed by Lance Anderson
Airs Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on The CW
For several weeks, it seemed like Katherine had gotten away with the perfect crime; jumping into Elena’s body in her dying moments, then working with a Traveler to make her possession of the body’s consciousness permanent. It was only a matter of time until someone discovered the ruse, however, and that moment came at the end of last week’s episode as Caroline and Stefan cracked the mystery, just as Nadia revealed her werewolf bite to her mother. This week’s episode deals with the fallout from both pieces of information, in a strong outing that bids farewell to multiple characters.
Elena being infected by the ripper virus has the potential to be an exciting storyline.

“Gone Girl”
Written By: Melinda Hsu Taylor

Original Airdate: 6 March 2014
In This Episode…
Nadia is in bad shape. She is definitely dying. Katherine vows not to leave her side - but she also refuses to call Klaus for the cure. That would mean outing herself - not a risk she was willing to take. Instead, she calls Wes, who takes a sample of the werewolf toxin and promises to create an antidote.
Stefan, Caroline, and everyone else have finally figured out that “Elena” is really Katherine. They all feel pretty guilty about not having figured it out sooner, as well they should. All they have is the element of surprise, so they need to bring Katherine to them. The only way to get Katherine away from Nadia is to make an offer that Elena could not say no to. They try a...

The Vampire Diaries, Season 5, Episode 1: “I Know What You Did Last Summer”
Written by Caroline Dries
Directed by Lance Anderson
Airs Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on The CW
The series premiere of The Vampire Diaries came amidst a slew of vampire stories in movies and books, facing an uphill battle in attracting an audience already wary of another spin on the supernatural creatures. The show soon set itself apart however, with compelling characters and a quick pace to its storylines as it expanded its universe. With its success leading to a spinoff this season in the form of The Originals, the show heads into its fifth season with major changes underway, as Bonnie Bennett’s death opens a major weakness among the crew of Mystic Falls, a weakness compounded by the absence of Stefan, replaced by Silas, and the departure of Elena and Caroline to college.

“I Know What You Did Last Summer”
Written By: Caroline Dries
Directed By: Lance Anderson
Original Airdate: 3 October 2013
In This Episode...
Over the summer break, all Elena did was fuck Damon; Tyler was helping a wolf pack in Appalachia (I still am not sure what that means, but I am sensing that Tyler may be joining The Originals); Bonnie has been dictating texts, emails, and postcards to Jeremy so that her friends and her dad think she is traveling the world; Matt and Rebekah have been screwing their way across Europe, occasionally picking up a pretty young thing to join them; and Stefan has been stuck in that box underwater, dying and coming back to life over and over and over while Silas has been roaming the land, getting strong off blood.
Let’s start with Elena and Caroline, who are moving into their dorm room.

"We found a stylized way to show the audience how things went over the summer, what everybody was up to..."
Season 5 will also see 'Elena' and 'Caroline' attending college.
"We establish a university that's old and steeped in tradition," said Plec, "and it’s been around for a while, and the room reflects that. It’s got the big arched ceilings and a good, old-world feel to it.

Take another look at extended footage from Season 5 of The CW's "The Vampire Diaries", premiering October 3, 2013, based on the book series by author L. J. Smith, plus an interview with series star Nina Dobrev.
From Alloy Entertainment and Bonanza Productions Inc in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios, executive producers of the upcoming season are Kevin Williamson, Julie Plec, Leslie Morgenstein and Bob Levy.
The series is set in 'Mystic Falls', Virginia, a small town haunted by supernatural beings, with the main focus, a love triangle between protagonist 'Elena Gilbert' (Nina Dobrev) and vampire-brothers 'Stefan Salvatore' (Paul Wesley) and 'Damon Salvatore' (Ian Somerhalder).
As the narrative develops in the course of the series, the focal point shifts on the mysterious past of the town involving Elena's malevolent 'doppelgänger' named 'Katerina Petrova' and the family of 'Original Vampires', all of which have an evil agenda of their own.

As my Televerse cohost Simon Howell and I discussed in our Top 10 TV Series of 2013 (So Far), this has been a spectacular year for television, with many shows delivering remarkably consistent seasons (or half-seasons) of memorable, moving television. A number of series were in contention for our Top 10 but didn’t quite make the cut, often because they lacked the week-in, week-out consistency of our final picks. Here is our list of the Best of the Rest, the standout episodes of 2013 from shows that didn’t make our Top 10. With so many choices, and because we’ve seen and are drawing from different series, Simon and I are offering more personalized picks here. As with our Top 10, the list is alphabetical. –Kate Kulzick

The Vampire Diaries, Season 4, Episode 15: “Stand by Me”
Written by Julie Plec
Directed by Lance Anderson
Airs Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on the CW
This week, on The Vampire Diaries: Elena tailspins, Bonnie gets the crazy eyes, and Shane is still alive
Last week’s The Vampire Diaries ended with a stark image- Jeremy dead, his blood drained and neck snapped, and Bonnie alone, stabbed, and bleeding out on the cave floor. Given the show’s history, this did not have to be the end for either character. There are outs for even the most extreme situation and the show has used them several times over the course of the series. Fortunately, this is not one of those cases and instead of Deus ex Vampire Blood, we get a powerful, emotionally wrenching look at loss, denial, and pain.
Jeremy has rarely been a standout element of the series.

The Vampire Diaries Episode 415
“Stand By Me”
Written By: Julie Plec
Directed By: Lance Anderson
Original Airdate: 21 February 2013
In This Episode...
Elena is relieved to see that Jeremy was wearing his ring. She takes comfort in this, even as Damon and Stefan whisper that, as one of the five hunters, Jeremy is considered a supernatural creature, and therefore the ring won’t work on him. Damon sends Stefan back home with Elena and Jeremy’s body while he sticks around on the island to find Bonnie.
Back home, Caroline is shocked to see Stefan carrying in Jeremy’s limp body. Elena instructs him to take Jeremy upstairs, where they lay him in bed and she waits by his side for him to wake. Stefan talks in hushed tones to Caroline, who is in shock. Elena appears and insists that she is not stupid; she is just clinging to hope, however slim.

The Vampire Diaries 4×03 – The Rager
Stars: Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Steven R. McQueen, Kat Graham | Written by Brian Young | Directed by Lance Anderson
Rage is and can be an extremely powerful emotion. It’s this overflowing thing inside you and when it takes you, it really takes you. Most of the characters on The Vampire Diaries, are always letting their rage get them in one was or the other. Damon, for the most part is always criminally guilty of this, especially in the season premiere when he wanted to kill Matt for nothing less than being saved before Elena at her behest. And Elena has always known that vampires have always had stronger emotions than others do, and the course of the season I suppose is all about her struggle to become a vampire. And as always subsequently deal with the insane goings on in the town of Mystic Falls,...

The Vampire Diaries, Season 4, Episode 3: “The Rager”
Written by Brian Young
Directed by Lance Anderson
Airs Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on the CW
After last week’s intense and character-driven episode, it was nearly inevitable that this week’s installment would feel like a downtick. While this turns out to be the case, “The Rager” is nonetheless a strong installment, continuing most of this season’s more intriguing arcs, particularly Elena’s transition. Turning the show’s lead into a vampire was always going to be a tricky proposition, but the route they’ve taken has proven an interesting and incredibly compelling one.
From the beginning, the series has been consistent in what transitioning means, that vampires retain their human personality, just dialed up to 11. With Elena, that could mean any number of things, but keying in to her empathy and protectiveness shows a clear understanding of the character.

Connor breaks into Tyler’s room and steals his werewolf venom. When Damon finds out, he goes to Connor’s Rv to teach him a lesson. He slips in easily - too easily. Sure enough, after less than a minute in the Rv, Damon is shot through with arrows, each attached by wire to explosives. Since he and Stefan are still on the outs, he calls Meredith to come help cut him free.
At the school, Connor speaks to Jeremy. Only hunters - or potential hunters - can see the tattoos that he has. He wants to train Jeremy and tells him to bring a vampire to his Rv. Jeremy agrees, but he shows up to the Rv without a vampire. He does clue Connor in to Meredith, saying that...

How long will Connor (guest star Todd Williams) last in Mystic Falls?
Connor is the latest hunter to crusade through Mystic Falls and in only one episode he’s made a major new enemy. Damon.
In Vampire Diaries Episode 4.03, “The Rager,” we’ll see more of Connor as well as the return of Rebekah. She got her neck ungracefully snapped by her brother Klaus in the Tvd Season 4 premiere. Needless to say, Rebekah will be stirring emotions at Mystic Falls High. In trying to kill Elena, she turned Elena into a vampire and nearly killed Matt. By the way, do any of these vamps look like they still belong in high school? Perhaps a time jump will be in order going into Vampire Diaries Season 5.
There was a time when I championed Matt and Rebekah as a couple, but she’s emotionally destructive. Sometimes she’s pro-Klaus, sometimes she’s anti-Klaus.

Three years ago today, The Vampire Diaries premiered on The CW.
In celebration of that event, and with just over a month to go until The Vampire Diaries Season 4 kicks off, executive producer Julie Plec has taken to Twitter to list her favorite Tvd episodes by order of their air date.
It's an interesting, fun list. Read through it below and then try to name your top hour in show history...
Season One
Friday Night Bites -- for our first understanding of who Damon was and who was he going to become.
You're Undead to Me: for Mads Langer's 'Beauty of the Dark' montage, brought to you by @TheJoshuaButler, ending with 'What are you?'
Lost Girls for @kevwilliamson at his finest: Damon and Vicki.
History Repeating: because Marcos directed it w zero prep during the darkest time of Season1 and it rocked, & for football brother-bonding.

Three years ago today, The Vampire Diaries premiered on The CW and we never looked at a soapdish the same way again!
Last night, in honor of the anniversary, executive producer Julie Plec took to Twitter and listed her all-time favorite episodes -- but cautioned fans from getting too crazy with the 'shipper reactions. "Don't turn this into shipper politics, you guys. Just because an episode has some Amazing scenes doesn't mean it has to be one of my faves."

Luckily for me, many of my favorite episodes made the cut -- and we learned a few things along the way. God bless Sigur Ros! You'll see!

The Vampire Diaries Review, Season 3, Episode 17: “Break On Through”
Written by Rebecca Sonnenshine
Directed by Lance Anderson
Airs Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on the CW
This week, on The Vampire Diaries: Jamie’s a bitten boy, Damon’s a bad boy, and Ric’s a dull boy.
After last week’s mediocre episode, this week things are back on track towards the show’s usual level of intrigue and excitement. Not everything works, however. Sage, featured in last week’s flashbacks, shows up in town and quickly schemes away with Damon. We didn’t get much insight into her last week and that continues here. She shows a lot of resolve and craftiness, but outside of her love (or obsession, if Rebekah’s to be believed) for Finn, and her age, we know very little about her. The writers don’t seem to agree, however- there’s a...
