NBC grabbed another Tuesday win thanks to “America’s Got Talent” and “This Is Us” — and the latter program didn’t even air last night.
“America’s Got Talent” hit a season high in total viewers, coming in with the best Nielsen numbers in both the all-important adults 18-49 range and overall eyeballs for Tuesday night’s primetime block.
Meanwhile, “This Is Us,” which returns for its third season next week, got some love via the “Paley Center Salutes ‘This Is Us'” special. The program came in right behind “Agt” as the night’s No. 2 program in the key 18-49 demo.

On Fox, “Beat Shazam” and “Love Connection” both ticked up as their seasons came to a close, though ABC’s “Castaways” went out without drawing many eyeballs.

“America’s Got Talent” was once again America’s Tuesday sweetheart, carrying NBC to an easy win in both the all-important adults 18-49 range and total viewers, according to overnight numbers from Nielsen. However, the program has seen better primetimes than last night’s, which took a little hit in both measures.
Meanwhile, ABC came in second place in the key demo thanks to another steady “Bachelor in Paradise,” but lost the runner-up trophy in viewers to CBS, a network that only aired encores.
NBC was first in ratings with a 1.5 rating/7 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 8.4 million, according to preliminary numbers. At 8 p.m., “America’s Got Talent” scored a 1.8/8 and 10.6 million viewers. At 10, “Making It” drew a 0.8/4 and 4 million viewers.

ABC was second in ratings with a 0.9/4 and third in viewers with 3.6 million.

The beat will go on for Jamie Foxx and his Fox TV show. The network has renewed the Tuesday night music competition series, Beat Shazam, for a third season. It seems likely to air next summer.
Season two is currently airing and is averaging a 0.71 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.26 million viewers. Compared to the first season, that's down by 18% in the demo and by 20% in viewership.
There's been no announcement regarding the fate of sister series, Love Connection, thus far. That Tuesday night series is doing considerably worse in the ratings.
Here's Fox's announcement about season three of Beat Shazam:

Fox has renewed interactive music game show Beat Shazam for a third season. Jamie Foxx will return as host and executive producer for Season Three, along with executive producers Mark Burnett, Jeff Apploff and Barry Poznick. Corinne Foxx, daughter of Jamie Foxx, also will return as deejay.
Beat Shazam has done well ratings-wise. It’s averaging three million multi-platform viewers and ranks among the summer’s Top 20 broadcast programs among Adults 18-49. It also is this summer’s most social broadcast game show with 19 million total engagements across all social channels.
“I am beyond excited that Beat Shazam is getting picked up for a third season,” said Foxx. “Huge thank you’s to our creator, Jeff Apploff, and to Mark Burnett and MGM, as well as the team at Fox for believing in us and giving us the opportunity to help change more peoples’ lives through our shared love of music.

There had been a lot of speculation since Disney’s acquisition of Fox assets was announced last December that the soon-to-be-independent Fox broadcast network, aka “New Fox”, will rely heavily on reality, along with live and sports programming.
While at TCA last week, Fox TV Group chairman Dana Walden stressed that while “we are definitely in the development business, and the mix of programming will remain as it was the past decade,” there has been a ramp-up in the network’s reality portfolio. At TCA, Walden announced three new series, all of them unscripted, The Masked Singer, a singing competition featuring celebrities in costumes and masks, Spin the Wheel and Mental Samurai.
In an interview with Deadline, the network’s President of Alternative Entertainment Rob Wade talks about the expansion, which started when he joined the network in early 2017. He addresses the fate of the network’s summer series The Four,...

Summer may be in its final stretch but on the Big 4 and the CW last night things were rockin’ with debuts, a finale, a lot of competition series and another win for America’s Got Talent (1.9/9)
However, with The Wall host and guest judge Chris Hardwick making his on-air return since being investigated for sexual assault allegations in mid June, the summer powerhouse did take a bit of a hit on Tuesday. Down 10% among adults 18-49 from its July 31 show, last night’s Agt was a season low for the show.
Still, with Agt the highest rated show of Tuesday and Week 2 of the Amy Poelher and Nick Offerman fronted Making It (1.0/5) down a tenth from its premiere, NBC topped the night. The Comcast-owned net, which is having its TCA presentation today, snared a 1.6/7 rating and 8.72 million viewers – that’s down tenth from July 31 in the demo but up a touch in total audience.

NBC walked away with Tuesday night in the overnight ratings thanks in large part to “America’s Got Talent.”
“Agt” held mostly steady this week, drawing a 2.0 rating in adults 18-49 and 10.9 million viewers, down a scant few percentage points from last week. At 10 p.m., “Making It” dipped in its second week, averaging a 1.0 and 4.4 million viewers.
On ABC, the season premiere of “Bachelor in Paradise” was on par with last season’s Tuesday premiere but down from the Monday premiere. The series premiere of “Castaways” drew a 0.7 and 3.2 million viewers.
“Beat Shazam” dipped on Fox, while “Love Connection” was even.
“The 100” was even on CW and “The Outpost” ticked up in the demo.
CBS aired only repeats.

Broadcast viewers didn’t quite swoon over ABC’s “Bachelor in Paradise” season premiere Tuesday when “Agt” dominated its primetime competition.
At 10 p.m., ABC’s “Castaways” debuted. Though it couldn’t compete with an original episode of NBC’s “Making It,” the new ABC reality show did fine for the network’s time slot.
“Bachelor in Paradise” had a much better season premiere last summer, when the dating show started against NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior,” not “America’s Got Talent.” It also opened with greater attention due to accusations of inappropriate behavior star Corinne Olympios made against fellow participant DeMario Jackson.

Meghan Trainor and “Pose” star Mj Rodriguez were chatting against a wall during Fox’s TCA party Thursday night at Soho House in West Hollywood for a few minutes before the two exchanged phone numbers.
“I just found out that we went to Berklee College of Music at the same time,” Rodriguez told Variety. “We know a lot of the same people. She said she’s going to message me.”
While Trainor is a certified pop star, Rodriguez’s powerful singing voice first grabbed attention and become the chatter of Twitter after she was featured on an episode of “Pose” last month singing “Home” from “The Wiz” with her Tony winning co-star Billy Porter.
“I never got the chance to showcase my voice like that before,” Rodriguez said.
Perhaps “Pose” could be headed for a musical episode when it returns for Season 2? “Hopefully that might be in the works,” Rodriguez said.

Fox has given a series order to the competition series “Mental Samurai” with Rob Lowe set as the show’s host.
The announcement was made as part of Fox’s presentation at the TCA summer press tour on Thursday. The show will premiere during the 2018-2019 season.
Each episode will see contestants battle to answer questions accurately with speed and precision on a specially designed course. Not only does the course test their acumen in categories of knowledge, memory, numbers and sequencing, but players will also have to contend with being transported around the set at high speeds in a specially designed capsule that is capable of rotating 360 degrees.
“When I was 15, I won big on ‘The $10,000 Pyramid,’” said Lowe. “I’ve loved mental competition shows ever since. For me, ‘Mental Samurai’ is addicting. Every time you play, you think: ‘This time I’m gonna win!’ But this very simple...

For some, it was a mini Parks and Recreation reunion, to others the debut of the Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman hosted Making It (1.1/5) was a chance to watch some quality crafting on network TV.
Either way NBC got some solid ratings and viewership builds out of the 10 Pm premiere. Coming off an America’s Got Talent (2.1/9) that was up a tenth from last week, Making It was down a tenth from the World Of Dance of July 24. However, that’s not the happy nail they are hammering in at the Comcast-owned net. The real crafting for NBC is that the handmade competition series matched the June 13 opener of Fox’s Gordon Ramsay’s 24 Hours to Hell & Back among adults 18-49 to be the top-rated premiere of summer 2018. Adding to NBC’s satisfaction in a job well done, with 5.33 million viewers, Making It is the most watched debut of the summer.

Summer 2018 is officially here tomorrow but it is already hot for NBC once again with America’s Got Talent (2.1/9) back to dominate primetime for the Comcast-owned network.
Yes, even with the early hours for most matches, the World Cup is scoring solidly for Fox but when you look at ratings like what NBC got on Tuesday, it was a Tuesday blowout.
Even with Agt dipping a tenth from its fast affiliates of June 12 (which went up a tenth in the final numbers), NBC’s overall rating of 1.9/9 and 9.88 million viewers beat encore heavy ABC and CBS and a Beat Shazam (0.7/3) airing Fox combined. A fun state to cite, and one NBC love to repeat no doubt, it doesn’t hurt that World of Dance (1.4/6) was the same as its final numbers of last week too.
Otherwise, the Jamie Fox fronted Shazam was the same as its June 12 fast affiliates...

“America’s Got Talent” remained easily the top show of Tuesday night despite dipping from its season premiere last week.
“Agt” averaged a 2.2 rating in adults 18-49 and 11.1 million viewers on NBC. That is down approximately 14% in the demo and 8% in total viewers from last week. Regardless, both “Agt” and “World of Dance” beat their timeslot competition combined. “World of Dance” was down a scant few percent from its season premiere.
On Fox, “Beat Shazam” was down in both measures from its premiere last week and tied its series low. “Love Connection” was also down and is currently at a new low in total viewers.
CBS aired mostly repeats except for “48 Hours: NCIS”, which was even.
On The CW, after a repeat of “The Flash,” “The 100” was even.
ABC aired only repeats.
NBC topped the night with a 2.0 and 9.6 million viewers. Fox and CBS tied for second in the demo with a 0.6 each.

Tuesday saw another NBC sweep, with a steady episode of World of Dance and a somewhat diminished America's Got Talent.
Talent still topped all other series for the night, and likely the week, earning a 2.2 rating among adults 18-49 and 11.1 million viewers. World of Dance followed up with a 1.6 rating in the key demo.
Fox offered up more new episodes of Beat Shazam (0.7 adults) and Love Connection (0.5 adults), while The CW had an original episode of The 100 (0.3 adults). CBS posted an even 0.5 rating among adults 18-49.

The return of NBC’s summer staple America’s Got Talent dipped three-tenths from last summer’s premiere episode, but also like last year it still dominated its primetime competition. Tuesday’s two-hour debut followed by the steady premiere of World of Dance gave NBC an easy win for the night in primetime as the networks got a rare reprieve from the NBA and NHL playoffs.
The 13th season of Talent from 8-10 Pm topped all its time-slot competitors in the demo who had a combined 1.8 rating, according to Nielsen’s preliminary fast-affiliate numbers. Those included Fox’s debuts of Beat Shazam at 8 Pm and Love Connection at 9 Pm, both off a tenth from last summer’s averages when they aired on Thursdays.

NBC handily won Tuesday night with the season premieres of “America’s Got Talent” and “World of Dance.” However, both shows–particularly “World of Dance”–were down from last season’s premieres.
“America’s Got Talent,” airing from 8-10 p.m., averaged a 2.4 rating in adults 18-49 and 12.1 million viewers, making it easily the top-rated and most-watched show of the night. It was down approximately 11% in the demo and 2% in total viewers from the Season 12 premiere last May.
In its second season debut, “World of Dance” averaged a 1.8 and 7.2 million viewers. That is down 25% in the demo and approximately the same percentage in total viewers compared to the Season 1 premiere. This season’s premiere was in line with the first season’s ratings average though and topped its timeslot by a wide margin.

NBC destroyed its broadcast competition Tuesday with new season starts for “America’s Got Talent” and “World of Dance.” Fox finished in a distant second-place in ratings with a pair of its own premieres.
The two-hour “Agt” premiere averaged a 2.4 demo rating/11 share and 12.1 million viewers. “World of Dance” followed with a 1.8/7 and 7.2 million viewers. Big numbers for sure — but they were both down from 2017.
NBC’s year-ago “Agt” season premiere scored a 2.7 demo rating and 12.3 million viewers. Back then, the series debut of “World of Dance” got off to a big start with a 2.4 rating and 9.7 million total viewers.

Fox’s Love Connection is going bigger (and nicer?) in its second season.
For starters, the show is doing away with its “love-or-money decisions,” host Andy Cohen reveals in TVLine’s exclusive sneak peek, promising “more happy endings” for contestants, who will no longer be able to take the cash and run. (For what it’s worth, TVLine’s initial review of Love Connection took issue with the icky twist, so consider us thrilled that it’s no more.)

Roku continues to grow the catalog of its ad-supported Roku Channel: The company is adding full seasons of select shows from Showtime, Fox and Epix as well as other partners to the channel.
Some of the shows being added to the Roku Channel include the first seasons of Showtime’s “Billions,” “Ray Donovan” and “The Affair,” as well as Epix’ “Get Shorty.” Roku is also adding select episodes from Fox shows like “The Four: Battle for Stardom,” “Beat Shazam” and “Love Connection,” as well as nature and wildlife documentaries from Smithsonian Earth.
However, there’s a catch: These shows will only be available on the Roku Channel until May 20, which the company has been trying to coin “National Streaming Day” for the past couple of years. This time around, Roku isn’t just celebrating streaming TV — something most people don’t need a holiday for — but also the ten-year-anniversary of the first Roku player,...

Looks like Cupid’s arrow caught Fox co-CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman — no, not in that way. Fox has renewed “Love Connection” for a second season, when Andy Cohen will return as host and co-executive producer. The revival of the former Chuck Woolery-hosted show sends hopeful singles on three dates in order to ditch the apps and find true love. Though there’s probably still a heart emoji involved in this whole old-school approach to modern-day dating. “Andy Cohen is a phenomenal host, not only because he has brought so much fun to the show but also because he truly wants these participants.

As for whether modern dating — dominated by apps and Instagram impressions — has made things harder or easier when it comes to finding love, Cohen thinks it’s a little bit of both.

Love Connection was one of the most influential American game shows.
