There’s a lot going on in the world of Alien at the moment. The original classic is returning to theaters, for starters, and the Xenomorphs will be fighting Marvel’s superheroes in the upcoming mashup comic Aliens vs. Avengers. Of course, the main event for 2024 is Fede Alvarez’s Alien: Romulus, a brand new big screen movie set between Alien and Aliens!
With so much going on, you’d be forgiven for forgetting that Disney is also working on an “Alien” television series, in the works for FX from creator Noah Hawley (“Legion”).
The Alien franchise’s first ever television series is likely to arrive sometime in 2025, set to be the first story in the franchise that takes place on Earth, roughly 70 years in the future.
FX teases, “Expect a scary thrill ride set not too far in the future here on Earth.”
So what’s the latest on the “Alien” TV series?...

Very few games this generation have wowed on the visual front as much as Horizon Forbidden West. Launched in February 2022, the open-world action adventure title was an absolute stunner on both PS4 and PS5.
2023’s Burning Shores expansion pushed the graphical envelope even further, as its PS5 exclusivity allowed it to harness the full potential of the current-gen machine. 2 years after launch, Forbidden West has been released on PC in a neat package that includes the Dlc. However, Guerrilla’s recent comments suggest that work started on it far earlier than we could’ve thought.
Work On The PC Version Started In 2023… Or Did It?
A still from Horizon Forbidden West
Forbidden West‘s PC port was a team effort between Guerrilla Games and Nixxes Software, the latter of whom is a renowned porting studio that was acquired by Sony in 2021, in an effort to speed up their PC release pipeline.

Horizon Forbidden West is Guerrilla’s latest entry for Aloy’s journey in a world overthrown by machines. Fans have been captivated by the amazing visuals, rich lore, and complicated combat, making it one of PlayStation’s best exclusives.
Sony has set its eyes on the PC side of gaming and ported several of its first-party exclusives, and the Complete Edition of Horizon Forbidden West is a perfect example of why it waits a few years before doing so.
Piracy is one of the biggest problems in the entertainment industry. It’s an insult to the talent and skill of the people involved in the development and production; their life’s work is being desecrated and used for less than its value, and Sony is reeling from the effects of its latest port to PC. Killzone, the now-dead first-person shooter franchise and arguably PlayStation’s flagship shooter title, was one of the most popular shooter games out there. The first was released back in 2004, and the last title came in 2013, but players have constantly been clamoring for a remake.
There have been several PlayStation remakes of popular classic games in recent years, and there will be more in the upcoming year, but sadly, none of them will be Killzone titles. A leaker has claimed that despite several remakes being in the works, Killzone fans will be left empty-handed.

It appears to be an unfortunate day for both the workers of PlayStation and the fans. Earlier today, it was reported that the company is letting go of 900 employees from the PlayStation unit. The gaming industry has been in a massive slump since last year with thousands of people losing their jobs.
The fact that PlayStation posted record annual operating revenue on Friday brings into question this mass layoff. As expected, PlayStation’s move is now going to have a ripple effect on their projects as well. After all, games don’t make themselves.

The Alien franchise will return with its first ever television series in 2025, and it’s set to be the first story in the franchise that takes place on Earth, roughly 70 years in the future.
Creator Noah Hawley‘s take on the Alien franchise has been described as both an “extension and reinvention” of the films, but don’t expect Ridley Scott’s prequel movies to factor into the series. Scott, who’s on board the FX series as producer, dug into the origins of the Xenomorphs in both Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, but Hawley reveals in a new chat with Kcrw’s The Business that he’s not interested in playing with any of those story threads.
Furthermore, he’s only interested in exploring the tech of the original two movies.

HBO is going to back to Westeros… again. The pay-cable network is nearing a pilot order for a second spinoff of its hugely popular “Game of Thrones” series, this one based on the Targaryen family, TheWrap has learned.
HBO declined to comment on the potential spinoff, which was first reported by Deadline, but an individual with knowledge of the project confirmed the report’s accuracy to TheWrap.
The series is from “Game of Thrones” author George R.R. Martin and “Colony” co-creator Ryan Condal. It would be set 300 years before the events of the HBO fantasy series, which wrapped its eight-season run earlier this year. Representatives for Condal and Martin did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.

Bolivia’s selection committee has opted to submit Rodrigo Bellott’s polemical “Tu Me Manques” to vie for the International Feature Film Academy Award.
The gay drama beat 11 other local films in contention. “By supporting my film despite the controversy, Bolivia has proven that it is a progressive country, and that in the end, art and cinema will prevail,” said Bellott, who has seen his fourth film greeted by both glowing reviews and homophobic slurs since it bowed in August.
This is the second time Bellott represents Bolivia at the Oscars. His breakout film, “Sexual Dependency,” which snagged the Fipresci Award in Locarno and screened at more than 65 international film fests, also became the country’s second official entry to the Academy Awards in 2003, after an eight-year absence following Juan Carlos Valdivia’s “Jonas and the Pink Whale.”

Dayne joins previously announced cast including Katherine Langford, Devon Terrell, Gustaf Skarsgard, Peter Mullan and Lily Newmark. In a series-regular role, she will play Red Spear, described to us as “a regal and ruthless viking captain, with an eye for treasure. … Loyal to no one, the Red Spear and her crew raid villages along the coast of Britain until a Fey stowaway boards her ship and entangles their fates.”
Netflix gave a 10-episode order to the project, which is based on comics supremo Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler’s upcoming illustrated book. Zetna Fuentes (Jessica Jones) and Jon East (Killing Eve) are among directors on the drama epic, which is a re-imagining of the Arthurian legend, told through the eyes of the young woman (Langford) who would become the Lady of the Lake.

Bolivia’s Rodrigo Bellott, after some years dedicated to casting and producing for other directors, has marked his return to filmmaking with the adaptation of his groundbreaking stage play, “Tu Me Manques.” On Sunday Aug. 28, his eponymous bi-lingual film snagged the Grand Jury Prize for Best Screenplay at L.A.’s Outfest where it had its world premiere. Drama will have a special screening at Chile’s Santiago Int’l Film Festival (Sanfic), which runs Aug. 18-25.
When the play broke out in 2015, what was originally meant to stage for one night went on for an unprecedented four months due to popular acclaim. More importantly, the story based on Bellott’s gay boyfriend, who killed himself for fear of coming out, had such a momentous impact on Bolivian society that it led to the inclusion of the Lgbtq community in Bolivia’s anti-discrimination law. Its Supreme Court declared May 17 as...

Production has wrapped on HBO’s Naomi Watts-led “Game of Thrones” prequel pilot, which began shooting in Belfast, Ireland this summer, Casey Bloys said during the Television Critics Association press tour on Wednesday.
The HBO programming boss also addressed the online petition that was started by fans asking the pay-tv channel to remake the final season of “GoT” with “competent writers” (a dig at showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss) which he says “shows a lot of enthusiasm.”
“Look, I take all of the activity around the finale as — there are very, very few downsides to having a hugely popular show, but one I can think of is when you try to end it, many people have big opinions on how it should end,” Bloys told reporters. “I think that just comes with the territory.”

Close-Up is a feature that spotlights films now playing on Mubi. Steven Soderbergh's Che (2008), shown as The Argentine and Guerrilla, are playing in June and July in the United States.Half way through Steven Soderbergh’s two-part, four-and-a-half-hour epic Che, ABC News journalist Lisa Howard asks the Argentine doctor-turned-revolutionary how he feels about “being a symbol.” The question ricochets off the sleek interiors of a New York room, 1964—the year Guevara addressed the United Nations on the threat U.S. imperialism posed to world peace. But in Soderbergh’s biopic, it plays over images from January 2, 1959—the day Che, having conquered the city of Santa Clara, raced to Havana to reunite with Fidel Castro and celebrate “the end of the war, and the start of the [Cuban] revolution.” It’s a choice that makes for a peculiar dialectic: a man who by the 1960s had already become a global icon...

Wunmi Mosaku doesn’t give up without a fight. After auditioning for a role on season 1 of “Luther,” she didn’t make the cut. “I remember reading the script and absolutely loving it, and really wanting the role, but I didn’t get it,” Mosaku said. “And when I watched the season, really wanted to be a part of it.”
Now, nine years later, she’s starring opposite Idris Elba on season 5 of the BBC’s hit detective series as new recruit Detective Sgt. Catherine Halliday.
“For any actor, no matter how old or young you are, it can be tough when you’re without work for months or even years, so it’s been a lovely 18 months or so for me,” Mosaku said.
Mosaku, 32, is a BAFTA TV-winning actress largely unfamiliar to American audiences.

Rory Kinnear, who played the Creature in the original Penny Dreadful series, is returning for a key role in Showtime’s City of Angels sequel.
Kinnear will play Dr. Peter Craft, a series regular role written for Kinnear by series creator John Logan. Craft is a successful German pediatrician and the head of the German-American Bund, an organization he hopes will keep the United States isolated from the growing threat of war in Europe.
“It’s no secret that Rory is one of my favorite actors on the planet, and working with him in the original series was inspiring,” said Logan. “So much so that I wrote this part for him, and I’m thrilled he’ll be joining us in the City of Angels.”
The series also stars Natalie Dormer, Daniel Zovatto, Adriana Barraza, Jessica Garza, Johnathan Nieves and Nathan Lane.

An actor writing a role tailor-made to their strengths isn’t exactly unusual. After all, without Chuckie in “Good Will Hunting,” we wouldn’t be living in a post-Batfleck world. But what Idris Elba has done in “Turn Up Charlie” is different, and not necessarily for the better. In Elba and co-creator Gary Reich’s new Netflix comedy about an aging, down-on-his-luck DJ who nannies his famous friend’s kid, the reigning Sexiest Man Alive incorporates all his lesser-known attributes into one seductive package…
…while everything around him is trite at best, incompetent at worst. Elba is a sex god slumming in by-the-numbers mainstream shlock. Except he chose to live here — hell, he built the thing himself — which is a mystery more enticing than anything in the show.

More than a decade has passed since The Slamdance Guerrilla Game Competition was removed from Utah’s annual independent film festival following an online furor over the entry and consequent removal of the controversial game “Super Columbine Massacre RPG!”. But the decision to close the Guerrilla showcase “was not based on controversy,” Slamdance President Peter Baxter tells Variety.
“It was based on being able to properly focus support for our artists and the desire to broaden the array of artists working in digital, immersive and gaming media.”
“For 25 years Slamdance has broken boundaries by championing works and the artists who’ve made them. We’ve been criticized and celebrated for doing so. We answer to no one. We’re aware our programming decisions sometimes upset people, especially with works like ‘Waco Resurrection,’ ‘Graphic Sexual Horror,’ ‘Super Columbine Massacre’ and this year’s’ Dollhouse.’

‘One Dollar’ Trailer: Mystery Series Follows a Dollar Bill’s Dangerous Journey Through the Rust Belt
George Washington’s seen some things. If “One Dollar” is any indication, there’s about to be a few more shocking additions to the list.
At the Television Critics Association press tour on Sunday afternoon, CBS All Access unveiled the first look at the upcoming series, which tracks the handling and use of a single dollar bill as it weaves its way through a murder mystery. As small-town accusations, deals, and reckonings happen in the wake of a multiple homicide, each episode shifts perspective depending on who holds the currency in question.
It’s the first series of its kind from CBS’ streaming service, which has kept its ambitious drama slate to high-end procedurals (“The Good Fight”), sci-fi TV franchise fare (“Star Trek: Discovery”), and off-kilter biopics (“Strange Angel”). This episode-by-episode approach comes courtesy of director Craig Zobel and creator Jason Mosberg. A “Leftovers” and “Westworld” alumnus, Zobel’s last...

“It is with great remorse and humility that I accept this suspension for the insensitive words I used during Wednesday’s broadcast. While unintentional, I understand and acknowledge the gravity of the situation,” Davis said. “I offer my sincere apology and realize that, while I committed a lapse in judgement, such mistakes come with consequences. This is an appropriate consequence for my actions.”
