After getting a taste of prestige true crime television with “The Act” and “Escape at Dannemora,” Patricia Arquette has set her next miniseries event at Hulu.
The streamer gave a limited series order to an “untitled Murdaugh murders” project on Friday. The show is “based on Maggie and Alex Murdaugh’s stranger-than-fiction family drama, a riveting account drawing from countless hours of reporting by Mandy Matney – journalist and creator of the popular ‘Murdaugh Murders Podcast’ – as well as exclusive, insider knowledge from years spent following the case,” per the official description.
In June 2021, Maggie and her 22-year-old son Paul were found murdered on their family’s South Carolina property. In a twist, it was discovered that patriarch Alex, who called in their dead bodies, was actually found guilty of the crime. Additionally, more murders have since been linked to the Murdaughs.

Hulu will dramatize one of the most talked about criminal cases of the past few years.
The streamer has greenlit an untitled limited series based on the Murdaugh murders case. Emmy winner Patricia Arquette is set to star in the project as Maggie Murdaugh; the series comes from co-creators Michael D. Fuller and Erin Lee Carr and executive producer Nick Antosca.
The project is a reunion for Arquette and Antosca, who worked together on Hulu’s The Act (for which Arquette won an Emmy for best supporting actress in a limited series or movie). Like that series, the Murdaugh drama is produced by Antosca’s Eat the Cat banner and Universal Studio Group’s UCP, where Antosca and Eat the Cat have an overall deal.

Chris Pratt nearly starred in a "Field of Dreams" remake that never came to fruition, according to new reporting from Puck's Lesley Goldberg. In a feature for the website titled "The Best and Worst Deals of the Peak TV Era," Puck News revealed that "Guardians of the Galaxy" star Pratt was at one point slated to head up a Peacock series remake of the 1989 sports film, but reportedly "abruptly" dropped out of the project.
The TV show version was initially going to be developed by Mike Schur, the comedy mastermind behind shows like "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," "The Good Place," and the show that gave Pratt his breakout role, "Parks and Recreation." When the show was initially announced in 2021, Lisa Katz, the President of NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, said that "Field of Dreams" has "remained a fan favorite" for years, and that Schur was the right person to tackle the project.

The year 2024 has been nerve-wracking for television fans. No shows are safe, and many reigning champs are seeing the end of their careers.
Did any of us really expect to see long-running success shows like Station 19 or Blue Bloods end?
But they are ending as networks try to tighten their production budgets. That means saying goodbye to some of our favorites to make room for the new and improved.
It can be tricky to get attached to a freshman season of any show. You can get attached to the characters, only to find out it was for naught when the season doesn't succeed.
Thankfully, that's not the case with Justin Hartley's new series, Tracker.

The 2024 Fantasia Film Festival will open with a world premiere for Bookworm, the Elijah Wood and Nell Fisher starrer from New Zealand filmmaker Ant Timpson.
The indie reteams Wood with Come to Daddy director Timpson and saw the Lord of the Rings actor return to New Zealand for production. In Bookworm, Fisher plays a 12-year-old girl whose life is turned upside down when her long-absent American magician father (Wood) comes to look after her, and together they take an ill-advised camping trip into the rugged New Zealand wilderness to find a mythological beast that leads to increasingly absurd and treacherous adventures.
Among other new titles added to the lineup for Fantasia’s 28th edition are world bows for Alexander J. Farrell’s The Beast Within, starring Kit Harrington; Isaac Ezban’s dystopian coming-of-age tale Parvulos; and Vivieno Caldinelli’s Scared Shitless, starring Steven Ogg and Daniel Doheny.

Grey’s Anatomy is traditionally one of Netflix’s most-watched acquired programs, so it’s only natural that the streaming giant enters the medical procedural space on its own.
Netflix has handed out a series order to Pulse, what it says is its first procedural medical drama series. The series, which is created by Zoe Robyn (The Equalizer), is set at Miami’s busiest Level 1 Trauma Center as they navigate medical emergencies and revolves around Dani Simms, a young ER doctor who is unexpectedly promoted to chief resident amid the fallout of her own provocative romantic relationship. While Warner Bros. continues to sit on his adaptation of the Stephen King novel Salem’s Lot, filmmaker Gary Dauberman has gone on to sign a first-look feature deal with Sony’s Screen Gems, where he is expected to “create projects for himself while curating a slate featuring established and up-and-coming filmmakers.” One of the projects he has set up at Screen Gems is the video game adaptation Until Dawn, which will be directed by David F. Now Deadline has revealed that Dauberman is going to be producing a film called Ushers for Screen Gems… and we have no idea what Ushers is about, because it’s based on a short story by author Joe Hill (who happens to be a son of Stephen King) that has never been published!

An unpublished story from author Joe Hill, the mysterious Ushers has been picked up for feature film adaptation by Sony Screen Gems this week.
Deadline reports that Gary Dauberman (Salem’s Lot) will produce the film.
The website reports, “Under his first look deal with the studio, Gary Dauberman and his team at Coin Operated will develop and produce with Zak Olkewicz set to write the script. Coin Operated’s President, Mia Maniscalco, will also be a producer.”
Zak Olkewicz recently wrote Fear Street: Part Two and The Last Voyage of the Demeter.
At this time, the plot is being kept under wraps. Does Joe Hill’s Ushers have something to do with the Edgar Allan Poe tale The Fall of the House of Usher, which served as the backbone for Mike Flanagan’s same-titled Netflix horror series? Is it even a horror story at all?
Stay tuned for more…...
