Joni Mitchell staged her first publicly-announced concert in two decades at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington on Saturday.
The 79-year-old singer-songwriter initially made her return to the stage in August 2022 during a surprise appearance at the Newport Folk Festival. She subsequently announced a standalone headlining show as part of Brandi Carlile’s three-night concert event “Echoes Through the Canyon.”
With the assistance of Carlile and a bevy of guest musicians, Mitchell presented a 24-song performance that featured some of her most enduring hits. She kicked off the show with “Big Yellow Taxi” from Ladies of the Canyon. Marcus Mumford accompanied her on “Come in From the Cold,” and Blake Mills sat it on “Amelia.”
Annie Lennox joined Mitchell on “Ladies of the Cannon,” and Sarah McLachlan accompanied her on “Blue.” Other notable performances included “A Case of You” with Mumford and Carlile; “Cactus Tree” with Lucius; “Young At Heart...

Brian Wilson, Beck and Eric Clapton are among the star contributors, but the story of Laurel Canyon’s folk-rock scene remains a mystery – and where’s Joni?
This documentary about the folk-rock scene in mid-60s Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles, centres on an all-star tribute show, and would have made a neat free gift for ticket-holders. But with an arrogance unique to those insulated by fame and money, it gets put into the wider marketplace for music documentaries and comes up embarrassingly short.
It is the first film by Andrew Slater, who had a varied music career, including journalism, artist management and production, before becoming chief exec of Capitol Records. In 2007, he was ousted just months into a five-year contract with a $15m payout, and Echo in the Canyon feels like a twilight-years project for someone who already gets his Diy and gardening done for him.

No shock, Spider-Man and the like dominated the July 4th holiday weekend, mostly sidelining the specialties, save for some solid holdovers. Only a very few limited release titles braved an opening. Roadside Attractions bowed Sundance 2019 doc Marianne And Leonard: Words of Love in four New York and Los Angeles theaters to a decent start. The Nick Broomfield-directed film about the relationship between Leonard Cohen and his Norwegian muse, Marianne Ihlen, grossed an estimated $44,311 in the three-day estimate, averaging $11,077.
“We picked [the holiday weekend] because there’s Spider-Man and we’ll have [the standout] specialty,” said Roadside Attractions co-president Howard Cohen ahead of the title’s bow earlier in the week. “It’s also a good time for docs.”
Music-related docs have had good runs with summer launches. Sony Classics’ July 2012 opener, Searching For Sugar Man, actually opened a bit slower in three locations in its opening frame, grossing over $27K, averaging $9,153. The title picked up momentum,...

Despite the fact that Ben Affleck's rehab facility, The Canyon, is more glamorous than the average vacation resort — yoga, a pool, and world-renowned chef included — the father-of-three is dead serious about his recovery. Even more than his health and career, Ben is terrified that his ex Jennifer Garner will forbid him from seeing their children if he continues down a reckless path of out-of-control drinking. "He knows that he still has a long way to go on his road to recovery but is looking forward to a fresh start once he's out," an insider revealed to Life & Style, adding that the actor will be at The Canyon for an "extended" period of time. "Ben is 100 percent committed. He promised Jen that once he's out of rehab, he'll be a changed man." As to whether she believes him remains to be seen, but Jen is clearly in full support of his sobriety.

Alt-rock band The Used has some major issues to work out with ex-guitarist Justin Shekoski. The band got a temporary restraining order against Justin -- 'cause of some threatening texts he sent after being fired -- but that order expired and the judge just rejected the band's request to make the order permanent ... citing a lack of evidence. But, the beef isn't over. Justin is still Pissed ... denying he made real threats, adding the band...

Chuck star Yvonne Strahovski, who also toplined the horrid The Canyon, is in final negotiations to join I, Frankenstein, the action monster movie starring Aaron Eckhart, writes Heat Vision. Miranda Otto, best known for playing Eowyn in The Lord of the Rings movies, also is on board. Stuart Beattie is directing the Lakeshore/Lionsgate movie, which follows Frankenstein's monster (Eckhart) vacillating between humanity and monsterdom while being pursued by demons wanting to gain the secret of his reanimated corpse. Strahovski will play the female lead, a scientist working on reanimating the dead and tricked into working for demons seeking to create an army of the undead. Otto is playing the queen of the gargoyles who wants to help Frankenstein. Bill Nighy is already in negotiations to play the leader of the demons while Socratis Otto (no relation to Miranda) is his right hand man.

ComingSoon has the first look photos from director Gary McKendry's upcoming action thriller The Killer Elite that stars Jason Statham, Robert De Niro and Clive Owen. Owen appears fighting with Statham in an exclusive Collider image.
While The Killer Elite seems to borrow its title from the 1975 movie from director Sam Peckinpah, the movie's plot comes from author Sir Ranulph Fiennes' 1991 novel The Feather Men. In the movie, Statham plays an ex-special ops agent who comes out of retirement to save his mentor (De Niro) and must take down three assassins led by Owen. Fiennes claims that his book was based on true events, as it followed the assassinations of four former Special Air Service (Sas) by the hands of a hit squad called "The Clinic." A group of vigilantes known as "The Feather Men" go after the assassins. Peckinpah's Killer Elite was also about a private mercenary group,...

The Reel Reviewer says this film ranks as "Premium Channel" worthy. The Cayon is good for some laughs and not many thrills; it is rated R for brief disturbing images aka one 4 second scene. Yeah, it is a very fine line between rated R and PG-13. There is a fine execution from first time feature director Richard Harrah with one or two strong characters but as far as storyline and unique characters or special effects there is really nothing new that can be taught to us or to entertain us. I'd suggest waiting until The Canyon makes its appearance from off the rental shelves and onto the premium channels like Cinemax or Showtime. This is a direct-to-dvd release, so it might not take long for it to hit the tube!

When a role calls for tricky, potentially death-defying moves, most actors are all too happy to step aside and let their stunt doubles take over. Not Yvonne Strahovski, who plays ass-kicking CIA agent Sarah Walker on NBC's "Chuck.""I beg to do all of the stunts," she says with a laugh. "Last night I was on wires and hanging off the ceiling doing cool things. It's one of my favorite parts of the show. I grew up really athletic, and I used to rock climb and hike. And I'm a tomboy in general, so all that physical stuff I absolutely love."Strahovski encountered physical challenges of a different sort when she nabbed a role as a honeymooner stranded in the Grand Canyon in the psychological thriller "The Canyon," opening this week. "We shot in all sorts of conditions," she recalls. "It was boiling hot at one point. Then there were...

The actress tells us she shot the film shortly after doing the pilot episode of Chuck . "I was just excited to keep working and I had...

Nature may be beautiful but it can also be very very harsh and once you take us humans out of our carefully controlled environments we’re awfully fragile things. I normally hold on to my program guide notes a little longer than this but, hey ... there’s no time like the present. Here’s what I wrote about the film for the Fantasia program guide:
Young and in love, Nick and Lori have taken the plunge, eloped to Las Vegas and gotten themselves hitched. Lori’s parents will probably be furious when they return but that’s a week away yet and there’s still a honeymoon to be had, a week spent surrounded by the natural beauty of the Grand Canyon. After watching Yvonne Strahovski kick ass and take names on the NBC show Chuck, it’s going to take some doing to believe her as a damsel in distress in need of saving in the new horror movie “The Canyon”.
