It’s an exciting time for Disney+ subscribers. That’s because Disney’s agreement to stream new episodes of Doctor Who is about to start bearing fruit.
On May 10, Disney+ subscribers in the U.S. will be able to access to the two newest episodes of Who season 14: “Space Babies” and “Devil’s Chord.” Additionally, the 2023 Christmas special “The Church on Ruby Road” will be available to stream then as well.
For more traditional Disney-heads, May 2024 sees one Star Wars season premiere (Tales of the Empire on May 4), one Star Wars season finale (The Bad Batch on May 1), and one Marvel finale (X-Men ’97 on May 15). May 22 also sees the premiere of Marvel Studios’ Assembled: The Making of X-Men ’97, which should be a fascinating look at the recent animated hit.

Steven Moffat returns to the world of Doctor Who with Boom – and Russell T Davies has been talking about the episode.
There’s a mild spoiler for Doctor Who: Boom in this news piece, but it’s not one of the things that the BBC has asked us to keep under wraps.
The UK premiere of Doctor Who series one, or 14, took place in London last week, and concluded with a Q&a session. After a screening of the first two episodes – Space Babies and The Devil’s Chord – there was a brief teaser snippet shown of the third in the new run, Boom.
This, as had been previously announced, is penned by Steven Moffat – his first episode since he handed the keys to Doctor Who over to Chris Chibnall back in 2017 – and directed by Julie Anne Robinson.

The times are changing across Indian cinema and Katrina Kaif, one of the top stars of the country, is changing with them.
The top 10 Indian films in the post-pandemic year 2023 were all star-driven blockbusters and Kaif was in the mix with Bollywood action extravaganza “Tiger 3,” the latest in Yash Raj Films’ spy universe, where she starred alongside Salman Khan. 2024 has seen a paradigm shift in that, with five of the top 10 films being what are known locally as “content films,” where a strong storyline takes precedence over spectacle.
The Hindi-language Bollywood may be India’s most visible film industry globally and the term is often used internationally as shorthand for the country’s other film industries, much to their chagrin. To put matters in context, of the 1,796 Indian films released in 2023, 317 were in the Telugu language, 271 in Tamil and 241 in Kannada, with Bollywood in joint fourth place with Malayalam,...

As well as a celebrated screenwriter and a Madman With a Pen™, former Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat is a cheeky, cheeky monkey. When quizzed in January 2024 by Radio Times about potentially returning to write for the show, he said the following:
“Look at my ageing face. How can I fit in? And I know, because I’ve seen the feedback, that people think I’m being evasive on the subject,” he explained, before continuing, “The truth is, if I say anything negative about Doctor Who it goes everywhere, like boom, everywhere, right?”
Like, boom, everywhere, right? Like Boom, everywhere, right?
Moffat is so embedded in the world of Doctor Who that even his jovial press statements contain Easter Eggs. “Boom”, as was confirmed in May 2024, is the title of the former showrunner’s new Doctor Who episode. It’s due to arrive on Saturday May 18/Friday May 17 depending on your time zone,...

No one’s ever really gone when it comes to a timey wimey show like Doctor Who, including past showrunner Steven Moffat, who is back penning a new episode of series 14. We still know very little about his new story except that it’ll be the third episode of the series, will feature Hitchcock-style suspense, and is the second episode directed by Julie Anne Robinson after the series 14 premiere.
And now add a new detail: the episode’s title, which is simply “Boom.” Sounds explosive, indeed.

Look, we’re not just tooting our own horn here when we say that Peso Pluma’s headlining set at the second night of Rolling Stone’s Future of Music showcase at the Moody Theater was the buzziest show in town on Wednesday. Fans started queueing up hours before the música mexicana megastar took the stage — one dedicated kid was there at 4 a.m., no typo — and all day, people were talking about the spectacle to come. But this is SXSW, and there’s never just one show worth seeing.

We have just celebrated Christmas, and many are still in their celebratory mood. At such a time comes a movie that won’t go unnoticed – Merry Christmas. The title seems to be the first element for the film to create intrigue. Coming from the Sriram Raghavan vault adds to the curiosity. Apparently all Sriram Raghavan titles are noteworthy, they keep you thinking and compel to watch it. It does not end there; it is the lead cast that is the icing on the cake – Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi! The film is positioned in a semi retro style and the same is transported on screen.

Filmmaker Tomson Tee is no stranger to a dark satirical exploration of some of the more imbalanced aspects of society these days as we saw with his take on entrenched racism in Kemba’s Nobody I Can Trust music video. His most recent film click, click, Boom! shines a light on the ridiculous disparities in wealth in modern day America through a darkly comedic lens. click, click, Boom! takes place in a dystopian world where, for no apparent reason, your head can suddenly be at risk of exploding. For one young woman at the height of her Wall Street career, this impeding demise leads to an understandable desire to tick off a destination on her luxurious bucket list but her boujee lifestyle hasn’t left much in the way of savings. Tee’s short pits two women in very different economic circumstances against each other with wit, nuance and a...

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced shortlists in 10 categories for the 96th Academy Awards. 15 films from each of the categories below were shortlisted. There were no surprises when it came to most of the big film Oscar nominations like ‘Oppenheimer’, ‘Barbie’, ‘Poor Things’ and ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’. India’s Oscar entry ‘2018: Everyone is a Hero’ did not make the cut in a strong International feature film lineup. There were some surprises as well with Chilean film ‘The Settlers’, Argentinian film ‘The Delinquents’ and Turkish film ‘About Dry Grasses’ being snubbed.

BAFTA has confirmed plans to stop its separate Awards for the children’s media industry, and present them under the banner of the more high-profile Film, Games and TV Awards from 2025.
The end of the separate Children and Young People awards ceremony comes after what BAFTA itself described as a consistent drop in entries and engagement in recent years. The ceremony last took place in November 2022 after a two-year pause.
This move is to booster the British Film and TV Academy’s support for the children’s media industry and its ongoing learning programmes for the next generation of creatives.
A new brand is being formed – Young BAFTA – to incorporate its outreach programmes for children and young people, which will be steered by a new cross-industry Young BAFTA Advisory Group.

Prolific documentarian Alex Gibney hates liars. He hates when companies lie (Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room); he hates when religions lie (Going Clear, Mea Maxima Culpa); he hates when authority figures lie (The Inventor, Client 9).
The Rosetta Stone for Gibney’s dogmatic resistance to mendacity is The Armstrong Lie. Gibney’s irritation arises not just from the general lies that Lance Armstrong told the world, but from the lies that Lance Armstrong told him during the making of the movie, yielding a documentary about the nature of deception and self-deception.
Gibney’s new two-part Apple TV+ docuseries Boom! Boom! The World vs. Boris Becker is a complementary text to The Armstrong Lie. It’s about a revered sports icon whose falsehoods eventually led to personal disgrace. It’s structured around two extensive interviews conducted at different points in the subject’s prevarication — once in delusion and once when facing a reckoning.

When I first saw the title Viking Wolf, Vikingulven in its native Norwegian, I had visions of Norse lycanthropes raiding and pillaging their way up and down the coast. Sadly that isn’t what it’s about although it does begin with a prologue, shot like a silent film for some reason, showing a raiding party under the command of Grim Gudbrand storming an abbey.
The monks warn them against going into a locked room and assuming it to be filled with treasure, smash down the door and find a snarling red-eyed wolf cub. Of course, they take it with them, and by the time their longship returns home, it’s the only thing left alive on it.

Where better to set a paradisal experimental housing development than Palm Springs? The sun is always shining and the empty desert expands as far as the eye can see in every direction, a vast, impenetrable barrier between manicured reality and the rest of the world. It all but guarantees privacy and safety, perhaps the two most cherished values in suburban society, and the two values most under fire in Olivia Wilde’s psycho-sexual thriller Don’t Worry Darling.
Welcome to Victory, a brand-spanking-new 1950s community where plasticky suburbanites beam over their single-acre, Stepford-esque plots of land topped with sumptuous mid-century houses you might find on Cielo Drive, perfect identical yards sporting a green so verdant they could be astroturf, and all the teak and crushed velvet you can dream up.
In the morning, happy husbands march outside, briefcases in hand, while the wives line up on crisp concrete driveways in a...

Panda Bear and Sonic Boom take listeners to the “Edge of the Edge” on the latest track off their collaborative LP Reset.
Like their first single, “Go On,” and the bulk of Reset, the track makes heavy use of a sample from Fifties and Sixties-era singles; in the case of the “Edge of the Edge,” the opening chords of Randy and the Rainbows’ doo-wop classic “Denise” are looped throughout.

The American Film Institute (AFI) announced today that the AFI Awards luncheon is postponed. The Luncheon was scheduled to take place on Friday, January 7, but due to concerns over the rising cases of Covid-19, AFI will reschedule the event for a later date.
“The goal of AFI Awards is to bring together the creative community at a private event founded in hugs and handshakes,” said Bob Gazzale, AFI President and CEO. “Because that goal is not achievable at this time, we will be postponing the event until we can properly celebrate the artists in a manner worthy of the gifts they have given the world.”
AFI Awards honorees include 10 outstanding films and 10 outstanding TV programs deemed culturally and artistically representative of this year’s most significant achievements in the art of the moving image. Earlier, Sundance announced that its 2022 edition will be hybrid. Most titles will be available online while their in-person festivities start up again in Park City. Their main slate has just gone live as well. Though the festival has a tendency to update their lineup as the festivities grow closer, their competition categories have at least been set in stone.
Naturally, we compiled all of the Asian and Asian diaspora-directed ones we could find so far. Like last year, most Asian titles tend to be in the documentaries. In the World Cinema Documentary Competition, at least 4 entries span from different corners of the continent: India (“All That Breathes”), Myanmar (“Midwives”), Lebanon (“Sirens”), and Israel (“Tantura”). 4 entries revolving around or by Asian diaspora filmmakers make their mark in the US Documentary Competition as well. “Free Chol Soo Lee”, “Jihad Rehab”, “Tiktok.Boom” and “The Exiles” cover fex-Al-Queda extremists, Tiananmen Square exiles, a wrongly-convicted Korean immigrant,...

Andrew Garfield, known for his roles in The Social Network, The Amazing Spider-Man movies, and Hacksaw Ridge, has signed on to star in the upcoming stage to screen adaptation of Tick, Tick… Boom! by the late playwright Jonathan Larson, who also wrote the award-winning Broadway show Rent. Tick, Tick… Boom is Larson’s autobiography that follows an aspiring composer in New York City who is starting to doubt his career choice.
Lin-Manuel Miranda is taking on the role of director of the film, and the screenplay is being adapted by Steven Levenson. Miranda is currently working on producing and co-starring in the stage to film adaptation In The Heights.
I think Tick, Tick… Boom! is in the right hands, and I am excited to see it when it hits theaters. Are you interested in the musical adaptation?

The Psycho Rangers finally get the depth fans have needed in a brilliant story that also interweaves Karone's struggle for redemption.

The Psycho Rangers were first introduced to Power Rangers with these lines.
“We’re the Psycho Rangers.”
“We’re faster than you.”
“Smarter than you.”
“Stronger than you.”
“But we’re evil!”
And that was… pretty much it. The Psycho Rangers have stuck in the minds of Power Rangers fans for so long because of the threat they posed to the In Space team… but that’s it. The Psycho Rangers didn’t have character. They were one-dimensional mindless killing machines. They were the Rangers… but evil.
Until now.
Power Rangers: The Psycho Path the new graphic novel from Boom! Studios, finally, after so many years, makes the Psycho Rangers compelling. They’re given personalities. They have character arcs. Their story drives the plot instead of the other way around.

Need a few tips on how to navigate the modern music ecosystem? One option is a conversation with Sam Nelson Harris.
As the frontman for alternative band X Ambassadors, Harris has seen three of his band’s songs hit the top 20 on the pop charts through high-profile placements in commercials, films (2016’s “Sucker for Pain” from “Suicide Squad”) and trailers. The group’s current single, “Boom,” from this summer’s newly released second album “Orion,” hit the rock charts this year on the strength of multiple high-profile synch placements, including ESPN’s 2019 NBA promos.
And as a writer/producer for hire, Harris has seen his stock rise considerably this year after his work on three standout cuts for Lizzo’s blockbuster debut album “Cuz I Love You” and co-writes on seven of the 14 tracks on the all-star compilation “For the Throne: Music Inspired by the HBO Series Game of Thrones,...

John Carpenter is taking his Hollywood horror sensibilities to Gotham City, with DC Comics’ recent announcement that the director of The Thing, Halloween, and The Fog is co-writing a special 40-page Joker comic book.
Carpenter isn’t the only Hollywood notable dabbling in the comic book world — far from it, in fact, he’s actually part of a crush of celebrity tourists who are putting their names on comics. The allure for some is the IP creation opportunities, while others hope to tap into the evolving medium’s new indie-spirited cachet. For some it’s a purer pursuit, a low-cost way to produce a pet project or a nostalgic lark that reconnects them with comics traditions and characters they loved in their own youth.

Netflix’s TV series prequel The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will be accompanied by a comic book series by Boom! Studios.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance recently wowed would-be audiences with a trailer for the Netflix TV series that teased a sublime mix of old-school puppetry and animatronics with just the right amount of complementary CGI effects. Intriguingly, the show – a prequel set several years before the 1982 Jim Henson-directed classic that lends its main title – will be accompanied by a comic book series by Boom! Studios that expands upon the onscreen story.
With Netflix set to premiere the 10-episode TV series on August 30, Boom! will subsequently release tie-in comic book series Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance on September 25, kicking off a 12-issue run. However, don’t let the nomenclature similarity fool you. While the comic is based on the show, Boom!

In Zero with Shah Rukh Khan and Bharat with Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif has outshined the superstars and plots, say industry experts who feel the actress has come a long way and worked her way to be in top form.
During the initial years of her career in Hindi showbiz, Katrina was often criticised for her acting chops and her heavy British accent. But over the years, she has come into her own, proving that she can act, dance and do it well.
Katrina is currently being lauded for her role as Kumud Raina in Bharat.
Trade analyst Komal Nahta told the agency: "Katrina is extraordinary. Her hard work on improving her accent is clearly visible in Bharat. While protraying the old age scenes in the film, she has maintained her pace as well as accent. She is looking like she has never been seen before. In Bharat, she is beyond imagination.

We've got the main and trading card variant cover art for the upcoming issue #43 of the Power Rangers comic!
The Power Rangers comic is going in bold new directions by introducing the White Ranger into the main comic, especially after its univere altering "Shattered Grid" arc. While the comic has veered away from Power Rangers TV stories since the beginning, having the White Ranger around without any of the "Green Candle" episodes is still a huge depature. While we haven't gotten issue #40, where the White Ranger is set to debut, we've got an exclusive look at the covers of issue #43 of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic.
First up is the main cover by Jamal Campbell.
What has beaten the Rangers back so badly? What's going on in the sky? Some unknown evil force? Those massive time portals from Time Force? What's that shadow of? So many questions!

As the frontman of Green River, Mark Arm sang on the first record that Sub Pop marketed with the word “grunge.” When the band’s Dry as a Bone Ep came out in 1987, the label described it as “ultra-loose grunge that destroyed the morals of a generation.” At the time, it was a throwaway term that described the quality of the music more than a genre signifier. “In the early Eighties, it was just more of an adjective, like, ‘That’s just really grungy,’ like, ‘gnarly,'” Arm says. “It meant a raw,...

The most deadly team of evil Rangers face off against Karone and Andros in an original graphic novel.
They're faster than you. Smarter than you. But they're evil. The Psycho Rangers were one of the most memorable parts of Power Rangers in Space, facing off against the Rangers over a series of episodes. Nearly defeating the Rangers several times, they were barely defeated. They were later revived in Power Rangers Lost Galaxy before falling again, but not before Psycho Pink killed Kendrix, the Pink Lost Galaxy Ranger.
Recently a new Psycho Ranger was added to the mix in the comics, Psycho Green. Given an origin as one of the original Supersonic Rangers, Psycho Green faced off against a team of Rangers in 1969. As reported by ComicBook.com, now they're all back in an original graphic novel from Boom! Written by Paul Allor (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) with...

Dinklage will star in the film set in a not too distant future where Americans are no longer able to conceive and children have become a valuable commodity around the globe. In this world, brothers Jackie and Julian (Dinklage) operate as adoption agents in Colombia, securing deals with families willing to give their children up for a presumably better life in America. When the brothers suddenly find themselves with their backs against the wall, Jackie makes a grave mistake that sends them spiraling into a dark mystery at the root of their world’s status quo.
James White filmmaker Josh Mond will direct and is adapting.
