Being as humongous and intricate as it is, the Star Wars franchise has had several plotholes that continue to confuse fans. From the Galaxy forgetting the Jedi to Palpatine’s secret horde of superweapons, there are several instances and events that remain unsolved. And one of the biggest plotholes is the relationship between Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker in the first film.
Leia and Luke in the original Star Wars trilogy
From their incestuous kiss to their alleged romantic trope, the misunderstanding of the two being romantically involved was also aided by John Williams’ romantic musical score. And the legendary composer solely blames George Lucas for his mistake.

Ubisoft's upcoming video game Star Wars Outlaws will send players on a galactic adventure as they attempt to navigate the seedy underbelly of the galaxy far, far away.
While the game features an original story that follows a brand new character, Kay Vess, players will travel to familiar (and new) planets while dealing with legendary criminal organizations such as the Pyke Syndicate, the Hutt Cartel, and the Crimson Dawn. The recent story trailer for Star Wars Outlaws also mentioned a fourth faction, the Ashiga Clan.
The Ashiga Clan is an all-new faction that has been created by Massive Entertainment in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games specifically for Star Wars Outlaws. The trailer didn't elaborate too much on this new syndicate, but GameInformer (via GameFragger) recently visited Massive Entertainment to learn about this new crime syndicate.

Return of the Jedi serves as the epic conclusion to George Lucas’ sacred original trilogy, which is revered for its cinematic brilliance even today. The film not only delivers the kind of visual spectacle one expects from a Star Wars film, but also provides a resolution to several plot threads and character arcs in a compelling fashion.
A deleted scene from Return of the Jedi shows Darth Vader reaching out to Luke through the Force.
However, all the fluency of the film could have been desecrated had Lucas decided to keep one scene that was thankfully deleted. The scene features a brief interaction between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, through the use of the Force. However, the context and placement of the scene would have almost disrupted everything that Return of the Jedi executes successfully, and here is why.

The summer movie season kicks off in earnest this weekend as Universal Pictures' "The Fall Guy" arrives. But that's not the only big movie hitting theaters -- or should we say returning to theaters: Disney is bringing "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" back to the big screen in honor of its 25th anniversary. It will also be back in theaters just in time for Star Wars Day. Much has changed in the years since this movie originally debuted, and those changes may help make "Episode I" a hit once again.
Disney is rolling out the red carpet for this re-release of the first entry in George Lucas' "Star Wars" prequel trilogy. It's getting a wide release, a sizable ad campaign, and even a beautiful new poster by artist Matt Ferguson. The majority of moviegoers are likely to flock to "The Fall Guy," which is looking at a box office debut as high as $40 million.

After a rollercoaster journey of three seasons and 47 episodes, Star Wars: The Bad Batch has finally come to an end. The beloved Clone Force 99 have hung up their helmets in an epic 50-minute finale that rounds off their stories while also setting up the future of the galaxy far, far away. Things come to a head in the aptly named “The Cavalry Has Arrived,” which serves as an emotional swansong for our titular troupe of outcast clones.

All roads lead to Mount Tantiss, and following last week’s cliffhanger ending, Crosshair, Hunter, and Wrecker (all voiced by Dee Bradley Baker) launch a rescue mission alongside former Imperial Vice Admiral Rampart (Noshir Dalal). Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, two essential ingredients in the “Barbenheimer” phenomenon, will leave Barbieland and Los Alamos behind them as they team up for “The Fall Guy.” But will audiences turn up in force to see the “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” stars when their new action comedy debuts this weekend?
Well, “The Fall Guy” isn’t going to hit those films’ box office heights, but it should have no trouble topping charts as it kicks off the summer movie season. The film is expected to earn north of $30 million, with some rival studio executives pegging the opening at between $35 million to $40 million. The catch is that movie wasn’t cheap to produce, boasting a healthy budget of $130 million, so “The Fall Guy” will need strong word-of-mouth if it’s going to leg it out on the long path to profitability. It will also need to do well overseas. “The Fall Guy...

A long time ago, in the galaxy you reside in, "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" arrived in theaters. The first "Star Wars" prequel arrived on the big screen 25 years ago, and a quarter of a century is certainly enough to be labeled a long time ago.
With the beginning of the Skywalker saga returning to theaters for this milestone anniversary, our friends at Bottleneck Gallery are celebrating by making Matt Ferguson's gorgeous, commemorative poster for the theatrical re-release available to purchase for a limited time. This follows in the footsteps of Ferguson's incredible "Star Wars" anniversary artwork from recent years, which has included a stunning poster for "Empire Strikes Back" and stellar artwork for "Return of the Jedi." Ferguson has also promised that when the next anniversary comes around, he'll complete the original trilogy by doing a new poster for "A New Hope."

The original trilogy of Star Wars films is known for its highly unique visual style and storytelling. The trilogy created by George Lucas has carved itself a special place in pop culture. Fans continue to enjoy discussing several aspects of the films, especially certain creative choices made by Lucas that did not sit well with them, such as the death of Boba Fett in Return of the Jedi.
Boba Fett was killed off in Return of the Jedi
During an interview, editor Duwayne Dunham revealed that he and other crew members protested against the creative choice during the production of Return of the Jedi. However, Lucas persisted with the choice, leading to the death of Boba Fett, something Lucas himself regretted later. Here is why the Return of the Jedi crew protested against George Lucas’ decision to kill off Boba Fett.

Many times in life the anticipation is stronger than the fulfillment.
Few things were more anticipated in recent movie history than “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” On many levels, it did almost live up to the hype: It’s still the number-one domestic box-office hit of all time in the U.S., unadjusted for inflation. Its reviews were overwhelmingly positive. It opened up a whole new era of storytelling for the franchise and deftly balanced the return of beloved characters from the Original Trilogy — Harrison Ford, in particular, delivering the most moving performance he ever gave as Han Solo — while introducing dynamic rising stars. It may have been overly indebted to “A New Hope” and mired in a few too many callbacks, but on the whole, “Force Awakens” was a movie that mined the deep emotion fans have for the franchise while pointing a path forward.

1977’s Star Wars, directed by George Lucas, captivated audiences worldwide with many falling in love with the galaxy far far away. While Luke, Leia, and Han Solo became fan favorites, the deaths of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader in the original trilogy moved fans because of their affection for the characters.

Love Triangles existed before they became a staple part of cinema. Whether it is Gone with the Wind or the Twilight saga, the classic trope has been a fan favorite, before Zendaya’s Challengers came around and made the trope even more pristine, to some extent at least.

Fortnite‘s roster of crossover characters already comprises lots of well-known figures from the Star Wars universe. Fans of the mega-popular battle royale can play as characters like Anakin Skywalker, Darth Vader, Ahsoka Tano, and many more by way of previous collaborations.
However, Epic is gearing up for the game’s biggest Star Wars update yet, which is slated to release on May 3. Huge as the update may be, the recent announcement of a certain character has incited lukewarm reactions from fans: Lando Calrissian.

Lando first appeared in the 1980 film The Empire Strikes Back as an old friend of Han Solo. Despite initially appearing helpful, Lando ultimately betrays Han and Leia to Darth Vader in exchange for the safety of Cloud City, a floating metropolis he governs.

The famous twist at the end of Irvin Kershner's 1980 sci-fi epic "The Empire Strikes Back" — that the evil Darth Vader (James Earl Jones/David Prowse) was actually the father of the heroic Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) — was shocking enough to send seismic ripples through the future of pop culture. Young prospective filmmakers reared in 1980 were so shocked by the famed "Empire" revelation that the "hero was secretly related to the villain this whole time" twist would eventually become a common screenwriting trope.
As many Starwoids will be able to tell you, the "I am your father" twist famously contradicts dialogue from George Lucas' "Star Wars" from three years earlier. In that film, the trustworthy Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) revealed that he was friends with Luke's father, who was, by Obi-Wan's own description, definitely not Darth Vader. Indeed, Darth Vader was said to have murdered Luke's father. So when...

George Lucas’ Star Wars franchise has been popular for well over four decades and continues to enjoy plenty of fanfare. After completing the original trilogy of films, Lucas returned to the franchise for the prequels, which explore Anakin Skywalker’s fall to the dark side and transformation into the nefarious Darth Vader.

However, for Vader’s backstory to work, Lucas had to kill off a fan-favorite character in the final installment of the prequels. Nonetheless, Lucas’ original plans for the prequels did not involve the death of Vader’s love, Padmé. Here is everything you need to know about Lucas’ original plans for Padmé and her fate.

George Lucas served as the primary creative force behind the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy of Star Wars. However, Lucas did not have any creative input in the sequel trilogy that was produced after Lucasfilm was sold to Disney. However, that hasn’t stopped Lucas from sharing his plans for what would have been his own take on the sequels.
A still from George Lucas’ Star Wars (1977)
During an interview, Lucas revealed that he was once planning to focus on the stormtroopers in his sequels. As a result, the sequel trilogy would have done something that neither the original trilogy nor the prequels attempted. At the same time, Lucas’ plans hint that the sequels could have been improved products if they followed his scrapped plan.
George Lucas’ Scrapped Star Wars Sequel Trilogy Plans Included More Focus on Stormtroopers
George Lucas originally planned to make a sequel trilogy in his globally popular Star Wars franchise.

There is a new rumor that George Lucas could return to Lucasfilm to do a new Star Wars live-action series. I want to clarify that this is a rumor, and nothing has been confirmed. It comes from what someone claims they heard, but the source is someone who worked in and around ‘Star Wars.’
YouTuber Star Wars Theory posted a clip where he was interviewing Roger Christian. Christian had worked on “Star Wars: A New Hope,” “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi,” and “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.” During the clip Christian just drops that he heard that George Lucas was returning to a galaxy far, far away.
He said:
“But I think he’s coming back, you know, I’m pretty sure now that he’s doing a series. I think that they’re now bringing him into the fold. From what I hear, cause there’s a Star Wars live-action series coming.

Star Wars is still a cherished part of many people’s childhoods. Beyond the nostalgia, its sheer coolness and grandeur make it perfect for the theaters. However, it’s no secret that the Star Wars universe is expansive, with a plethora of spin-offs and sequels, which amounts to a $10 billion franchise.

It’s remarkable to think that the franchise remains relevant with new movies still coming out to this day. Nevertheless, it’s only natural that, despite its popularity, Star Wars has had its occasional oopsie-daisy moments. One such instance is The Phantom Menace, which even George Lucas, the creator of the universe, admits to being a bit “disjointed.”

Nevertheless, it’s only natural that, despite its popularity, Star Wars has had its occasional oopsie-daisy moments. One such instance is The Phantom Menace, which even George Lucas, the creator of the universe, admits to being a bit “disjointed.”

Despite its commercial success, The Phantom Menace was a critical disaster. Of course, it was a commercial success, as the fans...

"Flash Strike," the penultimate episode of "Star Wars: The Bad Batch," features a thrilling infiltration of Mt. Tantiss. The Bad Batch finally located the Empire's top-secret facility at the very end of last week's episode, "Into the Breach," and is working to rescue Omega. For her part, Omega is trying to save all of the kids being experimented on by the Imperial scientists. Together, they're opposed by the full force of the Empire's might that Dr. Hemlock can bring to bear.
As Omega roams around Mt. Tantiss, however, she makes a startling discovery, giving her an idea for a plan to help her and the others escape. Occasionally, there are very creative individuals who make a variation of a core game with new mechanics that have a lot of potential. This is the case of Star Wars Deathtroopers, a game developed with a resemblance to Resident Evil 4 with the idea of making players survive a zombie outburst inside the Death Star.
This project is part of the itch.io platform, and players can donate any amount of money to play this survival horror experience. There are not many details about the game, but it looks amazing, almost like an Unreal Engine 5 title.

This article contains spoilers for "Star Wars: The Bad Batch" season 3, episode 13, "Into the Breach."
From the very beginning, "Star Wars" has been a smorgasbord of film influences and references. George Lucas cited John Ford and Akira Kurosawa films as chief inspirations for "A New Hope." In fact, here at /Film (and StarWars.com before that), I've written hundreds of articles about the cinematic influences behind "Star Wars."
The latest episode of "The Bad Batch" is no exception. As the Bad Batch further pursues a path to the secret Imperial science facility on Mount Tantiss where Omega is being held, they lead a daring mission to an orbital platform at Coruscant to get the coordinates and affect their rescue. Meanwhile, Omega is held inside a child prison with other gifted kids who are being experimented on. Be that as it may, she knows her brothers are coming for her, and...

The upcoming Star Wars series The Acolyte promises plenty of martial-arts-inspired action and a climactic lightsaber battle. The makers of the show recently mentioned that the team aimed to compete with Darth Maul’s legendary battle with Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon Jinn in Episode I: The Phantom Menace, and called it the best lightsaber battle in Star Wars history.
But is it? The franchise has seen numerous lightsaber battles across media, with fan getting their first taste of the trope in Star Wars: A New Hope. While the original trilogy is still considered to be the best of the films released to date, the lightsaber battles seem to have improved since then. The prequel trilogy’s climactic showdown between Obi-Wan and Anakin Skywalker definitely has a higher ground in the category.

With Dune: Part Two and Civil War in theaters, it’s already been a great year for sci-fi, and that doesn’t even count goofball flicks like Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, or any other movies with the word “empire” in the title. Sure, it’s not all perfect. Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17, starring Robert Pattinson, has been pulled from the release schedule and there’s no way that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will release this year. But overall, 2024 has been a strong start for sci-fi movies.

The Greedo scene from George Lucas' 1977 film "Star Wars" remains steeped in controversy. /Film has written before about the many, many cuts of the Greedo scene throughout "Star Wars" history, and how baffling each subsequent change has been. In the original 1977 cut of "Star Wars," the affable Han Solo (Harrison Ford) is approached by a mugwump-like alien named Greedo (Paul Blake) in a seedy bar. Greedo is there to collect on a debt, holds a weapon on Han, and will likely kill him right at the table where he is sitting. Han, seeing the danger, plays it cool. He reaches under the table, surreptitiously unholsters his blaster, and kills the unsuspecting Greedo before the alien can get a shot off. The bar is so sleazy, no one seems to really care about the murder.
In 1997, Lucas released a polished re-edit of "Star Wars" touted as the "Special Edition." The 1997 cut added a new wrinkle.

The "Star Wars" universe is stuffed with memorable baddies, and since the theatrical films have mostly been shot in London, these villains are typically from the United Kingdom. Everyone's got a favorite: Ian McDiarmid's sinister Emperor Palpatine, Peter Cushing's ruthless Grand Moff Tarkin (who was digitally resurrected for "Rogue One"), Kenneth Colley's stressed out Admiral Piett ... there's really no wrong answer here. But if I absolutely have to place one member of the Galactic Empire over all the others, I might just go with Julian Glover's delectably evil General Maximillian Veers.
Why? Even though he doesn't get much screen time in "Star Wars: Episode V -- The Empire Strikes Back", Glover is just such a strikingly nasty piece of work during the assault on the Rebels' Hoth base of operations that I find myself wishing Lucas had found more for him to do.

After Disney acquired Lucasfilm, one of their biggest creative decisions regarding the "Star Wars" franchise was to completely disregard the entirety of the Expanded Universe, opting to turn all the novels, comics, video games, and other assorted media surrounding the "Star Wars" movies into what is now known as Legends and removing them from the overall canon of the galaxy far, far away.
However, since then, several "Star Wars" projects have brought some of the Expanded Universe content back under the canon umbrella, such as the villainous, master strategist Grand Admiral Thrawn. The character originated in the "Heir to the Empire" trilogy of novels by author Timothy Zahn, which is largely considered to be among the best "Star Wars" books ever written.

Billy Dee Williams is defending actors who want to wear blackface in their performances.
The Star Wars actor appeared on Bill Maher’s podcast and recalled Laurence Olivier’s performance in 1965’s Othello, where the actor wore blackface.
“When he did ‘Othello,’ I fell out laughing,” Williams said of Olivier on the Club Random podcast. “He stuck his ass out and walked around with his ass, you know, because Black people are supposed to have big asses.”
He continued, “I thought it was hysterical. I loved it. I love that kind of stuff.”
Maher mentioned that actors could not wear Blackface today, to which Williams said, “Why not? You should do it. If you’re an actor, you should do anything you want to do.”
The podcast’s host noted that Williams “lived in a period where you couldn’t play the parts you should’ve played.”

Billy Dee Williams said this week he believes actors should be allowed to do blackface, specifically praising Laurence Olivier’s performance in Othello.
“When he did Othello, I fell out laughing,” Williams said of Olivier on Sunday’s episode of Club Random With Bill Maher. In the 1965 film, Olivier wore blackface to play the film’s titular character. “He stuck his ass out and walked around because Black people are supposed to have big asses.”
Maher replied to Williams’ comment by saying, “Today, they would never let you do that.”
