“RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 continued on February 23 with the eighth episode in RuPaul’s quest to find “America’s next drag superstar.” Previously in episode seven, Plasma enjoyed her shining moment as the star and challenge winner in “The Sound of Rusic” while Mhi’ya Iman Le’Paige and Megami didn’t strike a chord with the judges in their supporting roles. Despite a flipless Lip Sync for Your Life, Mhi’ya came out on top once again and sent Megami back to New York.
This week, the remaining 9 queens head to the celebrity dais with the classic impersonation challenge, “Snatch Game.” Seated at the judges’ dais for episode 8 was Emmy winning host RuPaul Charles, longtime bestie Michelle Visage, recurring judge Carson Kressley, and actress Kyra Sedgwick as the extra special guest.

Until recently, the oldest entertainment program known to survive on color videotape was NBC’s An Evening with Fred Astaire, broadcast live on October 17, 1958.
But now, a rare color videotape of the Kraft Music Hall Starring Milton Berle that predates the Astaire special by nine days has been discovered. The tape will be shown at the Billy Wilder Theater at the Hammer Museum in Westwood on Saturday, February 24th at 7:30 Pm in a program that is free and open to the public.
“The Berle Kraft tape is the oldest known color videotape of an entertainment program,” said Mark Quigley, the John H. Mitchell Television Curator at the UCLA Film & Television Archive. “Entertainment” is a key distinction. The oldest known color tape is of the NBC Washington studios dedication ceremony on 05-22-1958.

Norman Jewison, the multifaceted filmmaker who could direct a racial drama (In the Heat of the Night), stylish thriller (The Thomas Crown Affair), musical (Fiddler on the Roof) or romantic comedy (Moonstruck) with the best of them, has died. He was 97.
Jewison died Saturday at home — his family does not want to specify exactly where — publicist Jeff Sanderson announced.
A seven-time Oscar nominee, Jewison received the prestigious Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences in 1999.
Known for his ability to coax great performances out of his actors — 12 of his players were nominated for Oscars, while five of his features made the cut for best picture — the most distinguished film director in Canadian history often used conventional genre plots to take on social injustice.
Improbably, he got his start directing musical specials on television.

“We made something unfilmable, basically,” Ghosts co-creator Larry Rickard told the Rhlstp Podcast about the show’s unaired pilot. “Then we looked at it and said ‘that doesn’t work.’”
According to the Ghosts team, several things didn’t work about the mini-pilot, which was never intended for broadcast but as a way for them to figure out the show before making series one. Speaking to Den of Geek in October this year, Rickard explained:
“It was based on the pilot script that Mat [Baynton] and Jim [Howick] did, so basically episode one. It wasn’t the case of making an episode and then going, actually that doesn’t work, let’s start again. We were doing a taster, so we shot 12 minutes of material and then edited it together with voiceovers to fill in the missing bits of story so you could sort of watch it in a sequence and understand...

A total of 38 individuals received their first Primetime Emmy acting nominations in 2023, including “George & Tammy” stars Jessica Chastain and Michael Shannon and comedic leads Jeremy Allen White (“The Bear”) and Jenna Ortega (“Wednesday”). Of the newbies in this group, Pedro Pascal is the only one who scored bids for his live action work on multiple programs. In addition to landing in the Best Drama Actor lineup as a star of “The Last of Us,” he also earned a shot at the Best Comedy Guest Actor prize for hosting an episode of “Saturday Night Live.”
Pascal (who was also on the first-round drama lead ballot for “The Mandalorian” and picked up a narration bid for “Patagonia”) could become the seventh doubly-nominated first-timer to succeed on one or both of his mentions. There's a quirky balance on Fantasy Island Season 2 Episode 9 between the complicated Island relationships and the guest's relatively simple odyssey of self-discovery.
For Elena, Javier, and Ruby, there is heartbreak bound up with secrets, anger, and misunderstandings. There is no winning for our trio of denizens, but it does reveal another layer of what Elena's duties entail.
Meanwhile, Gwen's crisis of confidence Irl finds its resolution in a cosplay fantasy with the historical accuracy of Ye Olde Renaissance Faire.
Most Island guests are pretty relatable. Even the sillier requests -- like Eli's wish to be a chick magnet -- come from places of vulnerability and insecurity.
For some unexplainable reason, I'm not really able to connect with Gwen's desire to have someone else make all the decisions about her life.
Even after learning about her experience in her first year of med school, I don't get her. She's easily the...

There aren’t many people in the world who do not know who Cher is. The woman is an icon. She has had a successful career for over six decades. She sings, she acts, and she does it all. A young Cher started out as a singing duo with her then-husband Sonny Bono.
The couple had top 10 singles and starred in their own variety show. As successful as they were, their marriage didn’t work and they divorced in 1975. Since then, she only married once more but she has had many boyfriends. Cher dated some well-known faces, some not so famous, and some much younger men.
Cher | Kevin Winter/Getty Images Who is Cher’s new boyfriend?
She may not look it, but Cher is now 76 years old. Her new boyfriend Alexander Edwards is 37. The two met at Paris Fashion Week in September 2022.
There has of course been criticism of their almost 40-year age difference.

As Gold Derby predicted, Nathan Lane finally broke his streak of five Best Comedy Guest Actor Emmy losses by taking the gold for “Only Murders in the Building” at the 2022 Creative Arts ceremony. Upon receiving this nomination in July, he became the sole record holder for most bids in the category after having previously shared the distinction with the late Fred Willard. His past notices came for comedic appearances on “Frasier” (1995), “Mad About You” (1998) and “Modern Family”.
Those who were bested by Lane in this contest were Jerrod Carmichael (“Saturday Night Live”), Bill Hader (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”), James Lance (“Ted Lasso”), Christopher McDonald (“Hacks”) and Sam Richardson (“Ted Lasso”). All are Emmy newcomers except Hader, who has amassed 25 nominations since 2009, including two others in this category for “Saturday Night Live”. This year, his work on the comedy series “Barry” has also brought him lead acting, producing, directing and writing bids.

Over the course of its 11-year run, NBC’s “Frasier” amassed a total of 37 Primetime Emmys from 107 nominations. In 2004, it received six awards for its final season, including acting trophies for leading man Kelsey Grammer, supporting player David Hyde Pierce, and guest performer Laura Linney. Linney, who appeared in five of the series’ final six episodes, was honored for playing Charlotte Novak, the last of the title character’s many love interests.
At 40, Linney triumphed over the previous year’s Best Comedy Guest Actress champion, 32-year-old Christina Applegate (“Friends”). The rest of her competitors ranged in age from 56 to 78. Today, she stands as the category’s 10th youngest winner after initially entering the ranking at sixth place.

A full decade has passed since Charlie Sheen was unceremoniously fired from the Fox sitcom “Two and a Half Men,” for which he received four Primetime Emmy bids over the course of eight seasons. After the death of his character, Charlie Harper, his absence was lampooned several times, with one of the most notable instances involving a guest appearance by Oscar winner Kathy Bates. Toward the end of the ninth season, Bates shows up in the role of Harper’s ghost, who attributes his new appearance to an afterlife punishment. The brief yet highly publicized guest spot ended up bringing Bates her first Emmy award.
At 64, Bates was the oldest competitor in the 2012 Best Comedy Guest Actress lineup by 15 years. She automatically became the category’s 10th oldest champion, with five of her predecessors having prevailed after turning 75.

For over four decades, character actor Christopher McDonald has maintained a reputation as a reliable portrayer of smarmy scoundrels, with his quintessential role being that of Shooter McGavin in 1996’s “Happy Gilmore.” His hundreds of film and TV projects have allowed him to both expand his range and perfect the practice of mining nuggets of humanity from his usually roguish characters. Now, he has finally caught the attention of Emmy voters in the Best Comedy Guest Actor category for the HBO Max comedy series “Hacks.”
McDonald has appeared in 11 “Hacks” episodes as Marty Ghilain, the CEO of the fictional Palmetto casino in Las Vegas. Throughout the show’s two seasons, Ghilain has been involved in a power struggle with the Palmetto’s former headliner, stand-up comic Deborah Vance (Jean Smart). Of the 139 individuals competing in this year’s performance Emmy categories, Bill Hader stands out as the one with the most extensive nominations history. In just 14 years, he has amassed two dozen bids across eight primetime categories, including five this year for guesting on “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and directing, writing, producing and starring on “Barry.” The former, which constitutes his third Best Comedy Guest Actor notice, makes him one of the 13 most-nominated men in the category’s history and the 21st to be recognized for special appearances on multiple comedy series.
Hader, who received his first two guest bids in 2015 and 2018 for “Saturday Night Live” hosting gigs, has earned his latest one for his triple titular role in the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” Season 11 episode “Igor, Gregor, & Timor.” The installment involves series protagonist Larry David separately encountering all three of Hader’s characters in a single day and concluding that they...

Two weeks from now marks the third anniversary of the mass shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, during which 17 teenagers were tragically killed. Mariah Carey fans have always known the singer was an icon, but now her status is official!
After performing a supernostalgic medley of some of her greatest hits, the 49-year-old artist was honored with the Billboard Music Awards' Icon Award, previously bestowed to musicians like Janet Jackson (2018), Cher (2017), and Celine Dion (2016). The artist formerly known as Mimi - who has earned 15 Billboard Awards of her own - tearfully accepted the award from Jennifer Hudson, who, like most of the crowd, was still in awe over Carey's performance. The singer also took a moment to shout out her twins, telling us it's their birthday and asking the crowd to say happy birthday to the two of them. She went on to make a passionate speech, noting that whatever mistakes she might have made in the past, her music has always been her saving grace.

Billboard announced on Thursday, April 11, that Mariah Carey will receive the Icon Award at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards to honor her career achievements as an artist and chart-topper. She will also take the stage to perform a medley of her hits. The honorary prize was established eight years ago and has previously gone to Neil Diamond (2011), Stevie Wonder (2012), Prince (2013), Jennifer Lopez (2014), Celine Dion (2016), Cher (2017) and Janet Jackson (2018).
But which hits could she perform? She could fill the entire awards telecast just with her number-one hits. She has had 18 songs reach the top of the Hot 100 singles chart, more than any other solo artist and second only to The Beatles (20) among all artists. Those 18 hits kept her at the top for a total of 79 weeks, more than any other artist.

Many people took to Twitter to call out Kim's portrayal of the legendary R&B singer -- who tragically died in 2001 at just 22-years-old -- as disrespectful and offensive.
However, many also came to Kim's defense, praising her costume and pointing out that she did not appear to alter her skin tone, or go "blackface," an offensive face-painting technique that is widely condemned whenever dressing up as a person of color.

Cher was honored with the Icon Award at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night, and received a standing ovation from the crowd at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena for her amazing performances of classic hits “Believe” and “If I Could Turn Back Time.” But there may have been no bigger fan in the house than Celine Dion!
Dion was backstage after her own nostalgic performance -- a show-stopping rendition of her biggest hit, “My Heart Will Go On,” in honor of Titanic’s 20th anniversary -- when Cher took the stage, and just had to take a moment to celebrate her fellow timeless diva. The Insider’s Keltie Knight captured the amazing moment on Instagram, as Dion let a group of reporters in a “Believe" singalong:
The two even met up backstage after Cher's second performance, where there was presumably a lot of mutual fangirling.
