The original 1994 adaptation of The Crow still has a huge, loyal following, so there was already a certain amount of scepticism surrounding Lionsgate's decision to develop a reboot. When the first trailer was released, that apprehension turned to outright disgust for a lot of fans.
Are people being a little quick to judge based off a single teaser? Perhaps, but for many, Brandon Lee will always be the only Eric Draven, and that's all there is to it.
Total Film interviewed Ghostbusters star Ernie Hudson, who played heroic cop Sergeant Daryl Albrecht in The Crow, for the Goth classic's 30th anniversary, and the actor admitted that he's only recently been able to revisit the film due to the tragic accident that ended Lee's life during filming.

It's 2024 and one of the best British television personalities, Steven Knight, is in business like never before! Yes, admittedly, his projects these days are not as critically acclaimed as Peaky Blinders, but they always boast a high level of production and, of course, an excellent cast, which has never been wrong with Knight's TV series.
Last year's All the Light We Cannot See delighted us with the talent of young actors like Louis Hofmann and Aria Mia Loberti, as well as Hollywood colossi Hugh Laurie and Mark Ruffalo, while this March the BBC released This Town, led by the excellent British cast of Levi Brown, Jordan Bolger, Ben Rose and Eve Austin.
And the star of the new series, which is now streaming on Hulu, is none other than Elisabeth Moss, along with other equally stellar cast members that we will talk about below. Although the show has failed to impress critics so far,...

Exclusive: Blackwater Pictures, the British indie production company behind the buzzy biopic about the life of veteran Snooker player Jimmy White, has set up what they describe as a “multi-million-pound” fund to support commercially-minded independent British films.
Helmed by Kevin Harvey and Antoine Dixon-Bellot, Blackwater Pictures will commit to supporting five projects as part of a slate focused on emerging directors. The fund will prioritize “commercial independent British films,” organizers said today.
The fund is being managed in collaboration with BAFTA-nominated producer Tiernan Hanby (The Karman Line, Summit Fever, Heavyweight) of Pin Sharp Pictures and Simon Marriott of development & production company Shout Loud Creative. Money for the fund was raised through private equity and personal funds.

It’s been a long time coming, but a remake of the 1994 film The Crow (which was based on the comic book series created by James O’Barr) will finally be making its way out into the world on August 23rd, which is when Lionsgate will be giving the film a theatrical release. With that release date swiftly approaching, we figured we should gather together all the information we have on this movie… and here it is, Everything We Know About The Crow Remake:
Development Hell
When the original The Crow was released, it was successful enough to spawn a franchise, with three sequels following over the next eleven years. We got The Crow: City of Angels in 1996, The Crow: Salvation in 2000, and The Crow: Wicked Prayer in 2005, with several other potential sequels (including one that would have been written and directed by Rob Zombie) being developed and scrapped along the way.

Bill Skarsgård has continued to to impress audiences over the years and has helped maintain the glorious reputation of the Skarsgård family alongside his father Stellan Skarsgård and brother Alexander Skarsgård. Fans mostly know him for his role as Pennywise the Clown in the two It movies. He also played the main antagonist in 2023’s John Wick: Chapter 4.

Skarsgård is gearing up for his leading role in the upcoming action film Boy Kills World. The film is co-produced by Sam Raimi and the makers of the film had a tough task while casting the main role of the Boy. Lionsgate may have pushed the release date of The Crow remake back from June 7th to August 23rd yesterday, but they still promoted the film during their panel at CinemaCon today, showing attendees a new trailer. We don’t know when that trailer is going to be making its way online, but JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek was in attendance and reports that the new trailer reveals more about the film’s story.
Writing from the panel, Lance said attendees were told this version of The Crow is “a complete re-imagining that is not meant to compete with the original. The Lionsgate rep made mention how the original graphic novel is different than the beloved movie and made a point that the trailer was divisive, but they want to tell this story for a new generation.” As for what was shown in the new trailer, Lance writes, “An afterlife way-station...

After years of being stuck in development hell, "The Crow" remake is finally coming to theaters this summer. It stars Bill Skarsgard ("It") as Eric Draven, the role made famous by the late Brandon Lee in director Alex Proyas' 1994 comic book film of the same name. The reaction to the recently released trailer and images has been mixed, to put it mildly. Now, Proyas himself has weighed in, and the forthcoming remake does not sit well with him.
Proyas took to Facebook recently to share some of his thoughts on this new version of "The Crow," which was directed by Rupert Sanders ("Snow White and the Huntsman"). Proyas, for his part, didn't have anything nice to say, as he even linked to an article from Comic Book Resources titled "The Crow Remake Trailer Gets Staggering Amount of Dislikes on YouTube." The remake of the 1994 movie, The Crow starring Bill Skarsgård is garnering major attention. While there’s still time for the movie to arrive on the big screen, original film director, Alex Proyas has recently shared his thoughts on the upcoming reboot which is far from positive.

Alex Proyas, who directed the original version of The Crow in 1994 is not a fan of the idea remaking the film, the new version of which will be released on June 7.
Proyas’ reservations, he says, stem not from some sense of proprietorship, but from fidelity to the original film’s star, Brandon Lee, who died when a gun malfunctioned during production.
“I really don’t get any joy from seeing negativity about any fellow filmmakers work,” wrote Proyas in a post online. “And I’m certain the cast and crew really had all good intentions, as we all do on any film. So it pains me to say any more on this topic, but I think the fan’s response speaks volumes. [‘The Crow’] is not just a movie. Brandon Lee died making it, and it was finished as a testament to his lost brilliance and tragic loss. It is his legacy.

‘The Crow’ – Original Director Alex Proyas Elaborates Further on His Distate for the Upcoming Remake
The director of original classic The Crow, Alex Proyas (Dark City) has made no secret of the fact that he’s not a fan of what he’s seen from the remake so far. Proyas has made it clear over the years that he’s never been in favor of the original movie being remade – he wrote a heartfelt post on Facebook back in 2017 explaining why he feels a remake is disrespectful to the late Brandon Lee’s memory and legacy – and he’s very much sticking to that opinion.
Taking to Facebook this morning, Proyas elaborated a bit further on some of his recent posts slamming the new take on The Crow, calling back to his aforementioned comments from 2017.

After years of stops and starts, The Crow reboot is finally flying and now has the first trailer to prove it.
Bill Skarsgard leads the film, which centers on a man who is murdered, alongside his fiancée but is granted supernatural powers to seek revenge.
The Crow began life as a comic book, with James O’Barr debuting the character in 1989. It grew to new levels of popularity with the cult hit film, which starred the late Brandon Lee, who was tragically killed in an on-set accident during filming. Multiple sequels followed, including The Crow: City of Angels (1996), The Crow: Salvation (2000) and The Crow: Wicked Prayer (2005).
But the current reboot took nearly 20 years to get off the ground, with multiple stars and filmmakers coming and going. Blade Stephen Norrington took a stab at one point, while F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before the Fall) and star Luke Evans tried to break the curse at another point.

It may be downright difficult to believe, but "The Crow" remake has finally happened. Yes, happened, not happening, as had been promised for so long. Lionsgate has now dropped the first trailer for the long-awaited new adaptation of the comic book by James O'Barr. After spending more than a decade in development hell, a remake of The Crow (watch it Here) has made its way through production and is set to receive a theatrical release, courtesy of Lionsgate, on June 7th. A couple weeks ago, we saw the first images of Bill Skarsgard and singer FKA twigs as the new versions of goth rocker Eric Draven and the love of his life, Shelly; images that didn’t go over well with original The Crow director Alex Proyas. Now we’ve been informed that a full trailer for the film will be released online tomorrow – and while we wait for that, a (very) short teaser has made its way online and can be seen in the embed above. In this teaser, we’re treated to the sight of Skarsgard writhing around in a thick liquid that’s presumably meant to be blood. And that’s it.

Popularly known for portraying Pennywise in the horror film franchise It, Bill Skarsgård is set to star in the remake of the 1994 supernatural superhero film The Crow. Directed by Alex Proyas, the original film featured Brandon Lee in the lead role of Eric Draven. Following its success several other actors have since portrayed different versions of The Crow in subsequent sequels. Skarsgård, however, would be bringing Lee’s character Eric Draven back in the remake.

Yesterday, we saw the first images of what Bill Skarsgard of the It films is going to look like as goth rocker Eric Draven in director Rupert Sanders’ (Snow White and the Huntsman) remake of the 1994 classic The Crow (watch it Here). There weren’t a lot of positive reactions, with many fans comparing Skarsgard’s look – which Sanders said was a mixture of his own look in the ’90s, “when we were squat-raving in London,” with modern influences like Post Malone and Lil Peep – to Jared Leto’s poorly-received version of The Joker in Suicide Squad. One person who took to social media to blast the look of the new Eric Draven was Alex Proyas, who directed the ’94 version of The Crow.
Sharing one of the images, Proyas said, “Eric Draven’s having a bad hair day. Next reboot thanks.” In the comments, he continued to mock the look:...

Bill Skarsgård (It) takes over the iconic role of Eric Draven in Lionsgate’s new reboot of The Crow, and the first images from the film have been released ahead of an official trailer.
The Crow reboot will release in theaters on June 7, 2024, and Vanity Fair has shared three first-look images this morning that reveal Bill Skarsgård’s tattooed take on Eric Draven.
Director Rupert Sanders explains to Vanity Fair, “I think the beauty of Bill is that he has a disturbing beauty, and as he transforms through his loss he becomes this thing that even he can’t control. It’s that famous line: ‘Whoever fights monsters must be careful that they don’t become one.’ That look was me in the ’90s when we were squat-raving in London, [mixed with some modern influences] like Post Malone and Lil Peep. Exclusive: Lionsgate’s John Wick spinoff Ballerina starring Ana de Armas will be delayed a year from June 7, 2024 to June 6, 2025. The move comes as John Wick architect Chad Stahelski has inked a new deal with Lionsgate to oversee the franchise. He’s working with Ballerina director Len Wiseman on additional action sequences for the movie, to amp it up even more than it is.
Advance tracking is already hot on Ballerina, Lionsgate just wants to make the feature, produced by Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee’s Thunder Road even better. Currently, the Ballerina stands alone on her new summer 2025 date.
Now, there’s nothing for exhibition to fret, for the Rupert Sanders’ redux of The Crow will be taking over Ballerina‘s summer date of June 7 this year. Bill Skarsgård takes on the iconic role of The Crow in this modern reimagining of the original graphic novel by James O’Barr.

Lionsgate’s “John Wick” spinoff “Ballerina,” starring Ana de Armas, has been pushed to 2025. Rupert Sanders’ “The Crow” remake will take over its release date of June 7, 2024, while “Ballerina” will bow on June 6, 2025.
Studio insiders say Chad Stahelski, who oversees the “John Wick” franchise along with Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee at Thunder Road, is working closely with “Ballerina” director Len Wiseman on additional action sequences for the film. With “The Crow” ready to go, Lionsgate sees no reason to rush “Ballerina” into theaters just yet, especially with strong advance tracking numbers.
“Ballerina” follows a skilled assassin trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma. Netflix recently put The Woman King on its streaming service after a successful theatrical run, which recently culminated in a number of film awards nominations. For many Netflix viewers, this will be the first time they’ve ever interacted in any way with Western African history. While some experts on the topic have argued that the film oversimplifies historical events, it is important that the popularity of The Woman King allows future films about African history to be made by native filmmakers and those of the wider African diaspora.

Plot: In 1823, Nanisca (Viola Davis) is the bold leader of the Agojie, an all-female regiment tasked with protecting the kingdom of Dahomey. Reeling from a traumatic experience where she was taken as a slave, Nanisca is at odds with the slave trade her kingdom participates in but is forced to follow orders. As the nightmares become harder to stave off, she’s tasked with training a new generation of warriors, including the headstrong Nawi (Thuso Mbedu), with whom she shares a surprising connection.

Four years ago, Hollywood was rocked by the surprise success of Black Panther. Mind you, since it was from Marvel Studios, execs had an inkling that it wouldn’t lose money, but few that it would go on to be one of the top ten box office champs of all time, though the Top Gun sequel recently took it down a peg. Naturally, fans of it have been clamoring for a sequel which is still several weeks away. Well, this week’s big release may please them, and perhaps make them even more engaged. That’s because it’s more anchored in reality than Wakanda since it adheres somewhat closely (yes a few “liberties” are taken) to actual events and history. But like the earlier film, it deals with tribal royalty, but this ruler isn’t the story’s main focus. Rather, it looks at his most trusted aide and advisor,...

The white men speak in subtitled Portuguese, while the proud members of various African tribes express themselves in English in “The Woman King,” a clear sign of where our allegiances belong in director Gina Prince-Bythewood’s sweeping early-19th-century war movie. It’s an Africa-set epic of the kind not seen since “Zulu,” only this time, the task of defending the Mother Continent rightfully falls to the locals, not their enslavers. This side of the story is long overdue, recasting Western civilization’s greatest shame as the atrocity that it was while celebrating those who opposed it. Modern as that sounds, the movie embraces the codes of mid-20th-century costume dramas: It’s stirring but slightly stodgy, designed to stand the test of time.
In her fiercest role yet, Viola Davis leads an army of elite women warriors, called the Agojie, who protect the kingdom of Dahomey from outside threat.

Viola Davis is no stranger to transformations. In the past couple years alone, she’s played DC’s Amanda Waller, Ma Rainey and even Michelle Obama. But in the warrior epic “The Woman King,” the trailer for which dropped Wednesday, Davis plays a character unlike any she’s played before.
Davis stars in the film as Nanisca, the general of the real all-female military unit known as the Agojie (also known as Amazons) in the West African Kingdom of Dahomey (present-day Benin) in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The story is inspired by true events and follows Nanisca and Nawi (Thuso Mbedu), an ambitious recruit, as they fight enemies who have enslaved their people and violated their honor. The unit is the inspiration behind the Dora Milaje in “Black Panther,” and its story has never been told on screen before.
Davis told Vanity Fair that she underwent serious training for the physically demanding role.

Hero Fiennes Tiffin has a new romance movie out. The 24-year-old stars alongside Sydney Park in "First Love," which follows high-school seniors Jim (Tiffin) and Ann (Park) as they fall in love and navigate their impending departure to college. While the storyline may sound similar to Hardin and Tessa's in the After franchise, which Tiffin is best known for, the actor assures us it's totally different.
"There is something special if you can make it work with your first love."
"The scripts initially are so different, but how they're shot and brought to life is different," Tiffin tells Popsugar. "Jim's character is so different from Hardin's character. I feel like they're on the opposite ends of the spectrum, and that was definitely part of what drew me to doing another romance."

Warning: contains spoilers for Peaky Blinders season six episode three ‘Gold’.
In Peaky Blinders season six, Ada reluctantly steps into her brother Tommy’s shoes to run the company in his absence. She visits the Small Heath gambling den to issue orders to one of the gang’s soldiers. Go to Liverpool and deal with the union convener who’s organising the theft and sale of Peaky Blinders opium. Take Arthur with you, she says. When Ada’s questioned about the wisdom of sending junkie Arthur into a warehouse filled with opium, she says that it’s not Arthur going, it’s his reputation. “No-one would dare fuck with Arthur Shelby.” “But they would fuck with me?” asks the gang member. “Yes. He is Arthur Shelby. You’re Isaiah…who?”
Isaiah… Who?
He’s Isaiah Jesus, the son of Jamaican-born street preacher Jeremiah, who fought alongside Tommy, Arthur and John in France.
