Tom Jones, who wrote the book and lyrics for the musical “The Fantasticks” that ran for 42 years, died on Friday at his home in Sharon, Conn. He was 95 and passed from cancer, his son said.
The Fantasticks opened in 1960 in Greenwich Village and is best remembered for its opening song, “Try to Remember.”
Jones started his theater career in New York writing for the revues being staged by the impresario Julius Monk, working with another composer, John Donald Robb.
Jones and Robb called that show “Joy Comes to Deadhorse,” and in 1956, they staged it at the University of New Mexico, where Robb was a dean. The two had a falling out over what worked and what didn’t in the production, and Jones turned to collaborating with friend Harvey Schmidt.

Character actor Richard Brake has a lot of success in his career, racking up almost 90 screen credits over the last thirty years. Those credits include roles in Cold Mountain, Batman Begins, Doom, Munich, and Hannibal Rising, so he started getting cast in major productions with some frequency rather early on. But it’s interesting to see how much more prolific he has gotten since playing The Night King in Game of Thrones and Doom-Head in Rob Zombie’s 31. About half of his credits have come just in the seven years since 31 was released. Next up for him is The Gates, where he co-stars with John Rhys-Davies of the Indiana Jones and Lord of the Rings franchises (in addition to over 250 other projects). The film is scheduled to receive a digital and VOD release in the US and Canada on June 27th, and a trailer for it can be seen in the embed above.

Rooster Teeth's heroes have suited up once again and are ready to do battle with extraterrestrial foes. The Austin-based studio has released Lazer Team 2, a feature film that serves as a sequel to 2016's Lazer Team.
In the original Lazer Team, four friends -- portrayed by Michael Jones, Gavin Free, Burnie Burns, and Colton Dunn -- came upon a powerful suit of armor, which granted them special abilities. In the second film, all four of the lead actors reprise their roles as the titular team heads out on an adventure to save one of their own. A trailer showcases some of the action, comedy, and 80s references viewers can expect:
The first Lazer Team film, funded with the help of a record-breaking raise on Indiegogo, ultimately reeled in more than $1 million in theatrical ticket sales. Emboldened by that success, Rooster Teeth announced a sequel in August 2016, with Fullscreen Films...

Rooster Teeth has released the full-length trailer for Lazer Team 2 -- the Austin-based production outfit's highly-anticipated sequel to its first-ever feature film. Lazer Team 2 will debut on YouTube Red on Nov. 22 -- though a limited theatrical release courtesy of Gunpowder & Sky is planned ahead of that date. (Tickets are available here).
The film will see returning cast members Colton Dunn (Superstore), Burnie Burns (Rooster Teeth), Gavin Free (The Slow Mo Guys), and Michael Jones (Rwby) back in action as the titular squad. The second installment, however -- co-directed by Daniel Fabelo and Matt Hullum -- sees the pressures of sudden fame having divided the unlikely band of alien-fighting heroes. And when Free’s character goes missing on a secret research mission, it will be up to a new character, played by Nichole Bloom (Superstore), to rescue their lost friend and get the team back together. A second sci-fi adventure from the team at Rooster Teeth is well on its way. The digital content studio has announced that Nichole Bloom and Victoria Pratt have joined the cast of Lazer Team 2, which will be released through YouTube Red.
Bloom (Superstore) and Pratt (Heartland) will portray new characters who will complement the four leads of the first Lazer Team film: Burnie Burns, Michael Jones, Gavin Free, and Colton Dunn. This will be the second time Dunn and Bloom have worked together, as Dunn is also one of Superstore’s principal cast members.
“Nichole is an incredible addition to the cast of Lazer Team,” said Lazer Team co-director Daniel Fabelo. “We’re excited to put her comedic prowess and talent to work in this new adventure as we send these other four idiots into space.”

Four heroes with super-powered suits of space armor are headed out to save the world...again. During a Television Critics Association (TCA) presentation, YouTube announced its plan to distribute a sequel to the Rooster Teeth feature film Lazer Team on its YouTube Red subscription service.
The original Lazer Team was Rooster Teeth’s first-ever feature-length film. After spending more than a decade building one of the Internet’s most dedicated fan communities, the Austin-based studio funded Lazer Team by raising more than $2.4 million on Indiegogo. A year later, the film was announced as one of the launch titles for YouTube Red, which costs $9.99 per month and offers access to premium content as one of its biggest selling points. Ultimately, the film arrived for Red subscribers in February of this year.

Since 2011, the web production company Rooster Teeth have been working on their first full length feature, drawing inspiration in equal parts from the sci-fi cult classics and underdog team sports movies that they grew up watching. The result of their efforts, Lazer Team, comes hot off the back of the highest-funded film crowd-funding campaign ever (raising $2.4 million in a month) and even attracted enough interest in international sales to get a limited theatrical run in the UK.

While some of people’s past actions and personalities traits have proved otherwise, as they readily fit into society’s low expectations of them, their continued persistence in achieving their goals grippingly proves their peers’ beliefs about them to be wrong. That powerful message is enthrallingly presented in director-co-writer-producer Matt Hullum’s new sci-fi comedy, ‘Lazer Team.‘ The independent action film proves that audiences genuinely appreciate not [ Read More ]

The endless list of Indiegogo backers appearing towards the end of Lazer Team‘s credits make clear that the movie will not be wanting for fans, since it was they who mostly helped fund this science fiction comedy. So the question is if this film will strike a chord with audience members unfamiliar with Austin-based production company Rooster Teeth, the creative minds behind the film? In their first-feature length project, the comedic troupe, best-known for their video-game-based web series Red Vs. Blue, have created a product composed of the elements that make them a bonafide YouTube sensation: effective, low-budget visual effects, bro-ish jokes, and a self-aware love of geekdom that’s completely free of cynicism.

USA, 2015
We’re not a team, we’re a timebomb.

Lazer Team is the story of a dimwitted group of ne’er-do-wells that stumble into the position of defenders of humanity — imagine the burnouts from Pineapple Express or the nerds from Superbad inheriting superpowers and you’re on the right track. The brainchild of the Rooster Teeth crew, Lazer Team features all the raunchy humor and cinematic hi-jinks that has endeared the brand to its wildly devoted fans over the past decade.
In Lazer Team, the American military intercepts an extra-terrestrial signal that warns them of an impending alien threat. So that humanity may stand a fighting chance, a benign alien race sends a ship carrying a suit of power to earth which provides the strength needed to defeat the invaders.

I’m going to dub Rooster Teeth’s Lazer Team the Anti-Pixels. Their plots are so eerily similar, but I guess that can be said about most of these “unlikely hero” arcs in science fiction. A group of friends stumble upon alien weaponry, training montages ensue, there’s an inner struggle that keeps the team at odds, an alien challenger comes to Earth for a universal pink-slip competition, and the team finally comes together in a moment of emotional triumph. The only difference? Lazer Team doesn’t totally suck like Pixels. In fact, it’s rather funny – but what else would you expect from Rooster Teeth? You’ve been watching these guys make a mockery of Halo for years, now watch them take aim at the sci-fi genre like only their brash immaturity could imagine.
So who is the Lazer Team? Just your run-of-the-mill chuckleheads who have no business saving the world.

It is time for me to make my peace with the fact that I will not be at Fantastic Fest this year. Last year's fest was one of my favorites ever, fitting for a tenth anniversary, and I would love to go this year. It's just not in the cards, though. It guts me, too. The event continues to grow and change and evolve, and it features one of the greatest programming teams in the business right now. There are films playing at the festival that I'll see in Toronto, and I'm sure I'll catch up with others, but that's not the point. Fantastic Fest is an experience, and an amazing one. If you want to go, you still can. "Daytime Only Badges, Fan Badges, and 2Nd Half Badges for Fantastic Fest 2015 are available for purchase here," today's press release urged. Presented by Fullscreen (Rooster Teeth’s parent company) and its recently-launched film department, Lazer Team tells the story of four hapless idiots who accidentally don various pieces of a genetically-linking super suit, originally intended for the Champion of Earth to defend the planet from an oncoming alien invasion. The film stars Burnie Burns, Michael Jones, Gavin Free, Colton Dunn, and Alan Ritchson, who will all be in attendance at the Lazer Team world premiere for a post-screening question-and-answer session.
Lazer Team was originally launched as an Indiegogo campaign by Rooster Teeth in June 2014. The production company managed to raise over $1 million in just three days, and...

It’s hard to believe that we are a month away from what is possibly the best genre film festival in North America! After announcing a Kurt Russell included first wave, we get a wave that probably includes all the films I have the most interest in. The French remake of what I consider is one of Mario Bava’s best films, Rabid Dogs is included. Along with Jeremy Saulnier’s follow up from Blue Ruin, Green Room where Patrick Stewart plays a Neo-Nazi club owner, Ridley Scott’s The Martian, Ben Wheatley’s adaptation of High-Rise and the horror film that has some chilling buzz, The Witch, are all included. Check out the full listing below and wait with anticipation for our coverage of the festival!
Fantastic Fest is excited to announce the second wave of programming featuring the Us Premiere of Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Lobster as the opening night film.

Any genre fan attending Fantastic Fest 2015 is going to lose their collective minds. The international madness (in addition to the first wave I reported on last month) that is going to descend upon Austin is jaw dropping. Opening night will feature the Us Premiere of Yorgos Lanthimos' The Lobster, a multi-country production that focuses on the surreal examination of human connections. Fantastic Fest will also host the World Premiere of Lazer Team, the first feature from web series maestros Rooster Teeth. Director Matt Hullum and cast members Burnie Burns, Alan Ritchson, Colton Dunn, Michael Jones, and Gavin Free will be in attendance to celebrate the highly anticipated sci-fi comedy and join Fantastic Fest's official opening night party, presented by Rooster Teeth. Returning champions of oddball cinema...

Rooster Teeth is making its fans even more anxious for the release of its first-ever, feature-length film. The Austin-based entertainment studio acquired by Fullscreen in November 2014 debuted the official trailer for its sci-fi action comedy Lazer Team on March 16, 2015.
The Lazer Team trailer introduces viewers to Hagan (played by Burnie Burns), Zach (Michael Jones), Woody (Gavin Free), and Herman (Colton Dunn). The four unknowingly put on pieces of a power suit, created by the Us Government and intended for a Champion of Earth (Alan Ritchson) to help save the world from an impending alien attack. Unfortunately, the four men who come to be known as the Lazer Team are anything but competent from defending Earth.
Rooster Teeth broke an Indiegogo record for most-funded movie campaign back in July 2014 when the company raised over $2.4 million to get Lazer Team off the ground. The production studio released the teaser trailer for the...

Rooster Teeth has a sneak peek of its first-ever feature-length film. The Austin-based production studio acquired by YouTube multi-channel network Fullscreen released the teaser trailer for its upcoming live action flick Lazer Team.
The teaser for Lazer Team begins by showing how the U.S. government has been preparing for an alien invasion since the 1970s. The clip then reveals how the titular Lazer Team (unfortunately) forms by happenstance to try to help save the world. The Lazer Team teaser was revealed at the Let’s Play Live event in Austin on February 20, 2015.
Lazer Team became the most successfully-backed movie campaign in all of Indiegogo history in July 2014 when Rooster Teeth raised over $2 million dollars from contributors to produce the company’s debut full-length film. The sci-fi comedy began production in October 2014. Directed by Rooster Teeth’s CEO Matt Hullum, the film stars Colton Dunn, Burnie Burns, Michael Jones, and...

Rooster Teeth never ceases to appreciate and delight its fans. With that in mind, the Austin-based production shop responsible for some of the most popular web series in online video history (like Red Vs. Blue and Rwby) just released their new murder mystery series, Ten Little Roosters, on November 4, 2014. It's a whodunit tale that immediately gets the viewers involved. The first episode takes place at the First Rooster Teeth Banquet, a formal event hosted by Rooster Teeth co-founder Burnie Burns in appreciation of nine of his staff members. The night quickly turns sour when Achievement Hunter's Michael Jones accuses everyone in the room of their awkward and gruesome past crimes and threatens to turn them into the authorities. However, Jones soon falls over dead by way of a poisoned his drink, and from there on it’s all Clue-the-movie-style mystery and mayhem as the rest of the staff tries to...

"Lazer Team," the first feature film from Internet production company Rooster Teeth, began shooting today in Austin, Texas. The lead cast was also confirmed. The film follows four idiots who acquire an advanced power suit intended for the Champion of Earth, a warrior trained by the U.S. government to represent humanity in galactic society. The four pieces of the suit lock to their DNA, forcing them to become the heroes humanity needs. Alan Ritchson, who voiced Raphael in this year's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" reboot and played Gloss in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," will play the Champion of Earth himself. As for the four leads (the titular Lazer Team), Colton Dunn from "Parks and Recreation" will play Herman, with Rooster Teeth personalities Gavin Free and Michael Jones ...
