There is something genuinely heartfelt about I’m ‘George Lucas’: A Connor Ratliff Story. Directed by Ryan Jacobi, the documentary tells the story of New York-based comedian Connor Ratliff and his long tenure playing “George Lucas” on The George Lucas Talk Show, an improvised, monthly comedy series designed as a late-night panel talk show in which real-life guests act as though they are conversing with the real George Lucas. The majority of performances were staged at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York City. The show also gained a brand-new, expanded audience over Zoom during the pandemic.
We follow Ratliff through his routines preparing for each show, explaining his process along the way. Collaborators like Griffin Newman (who plays “Watto”) and Patrick Cotnoir (who produces the show) try explaining Ratliff to the viewer. The overall explanation seems to be that there is not much of an explanation. He...

Plot: The new epic chapter in the battle for Castle Grayskull!. The newly mechanized Skeletor, armed with Motherboard’s might, attacks Eternia’s heart while Prince Adam grapples with a new responsibility and what that means for him as He-Man!
Review: Back in 2021, I gave a glowing review to Kevin Smith’s revival of He-Man. Titled Masters of the Universe: Revelation, the Netflix original was released in two five-episode drops, both of which I loved. A blend of modern animation techniques coupled with a throwback to the Filmation style of the 1980s cartoon, Revelation was blasted online by a vocal minority who disliked Smith’s decision to “kill off” Prince Adam in the first episode and make the series centered on Teela and many of the female characters. By the end of the full series, Smith’s vision came to fruition, even though many fans were not swayed. The second...

This article contains spoilers for Masters of the Universe: Revolution.
Episode 3 of Masters of the Universe: Revolution features former Man-At-Arms Duncan (Liam Cunningham) and wizard Orko (Griffin Newman) achieving an important goal, enhancing He-Man’s Sword of Power. To do this, Duncan goes to the one person he believes can do it, a locksmith who is, “small in stature and tall on talent.”
That locksmith is a short creature named Gwildor (Ted Biaselli.)
For those not well-versed in their Masters of the Universe franchise lore, Gwildor doesn’t come from the original He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Filmation cartoon. He actually debuted in the 1987 live-action movie, Masters of the Universe, played by Billy Barty. In that film he was also a locksmith whose main purpose in the plot was as the creator of the Cosmic Key, the object used to transport He-Man and company to Earth in that film.

Scott Pilgrim is back, but not in the way anyone expected. The new Netflix animated series “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” is both a continuation of the “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” story and a complete recontextualization of what transpired, twisting and morphing the source material into something completely new. And who better to do it than the author responsible for creating “Scott Pilgrim” in the first place?
The anime “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” is created by Bryan Lee O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski, and while it begins similarly to “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” a shocking twist at the end of Episode 1 soon takes this story in a different direction.
Edgar Wright, who co-wrote and directed the 2010 film adaptation “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” is involved in this new series as an executive producer and he also helped bring a big piece of the puzzle together: the cast.

This Halloween season, Bloody Disgusting and Screambox are bringing Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls to theaters (Oct. 19), a gateway horror film that wears its ’80s/’90s influences on its sleeves.
Based on writer, director, and star Andrew Bowser’s viral internet character of the same name, Onyx tells the story of an amateur occultist who learns that sometimes, when you raise Hell…you get a little burned.
“Onyx the Fortuitous is struggling to find purpose with his soul-devouring side gig when he receives a coveted invitation to the mansion of his idol, Bartok the Great. Here, he joins Bartok and his mysterious delegation to raise the spirit of an ancient demon for a once-in-a-lifetime ritual.”
In the new clip, Onyx (Bowser) witnesses something horrific and stumbles into a room, going on a fright-filled tangent: “I love the mechanics of these vintage lamps!”

With the WGA currently picketing and a looming SAG-AFTRA strike already impacting San Diego Comic-Con with several film and TV companies, i.e. Marvel, Lucasfilm, Sony, Universal, Netflix skipping, Lord knows what a truncated and tamer Comic-Con is going to look like from July 19-23, especially after an explosive 2022 which repped the confab’s return to in-person after going dark for two years during Covid for 2020 and 2021. However, here’s a glimpse at the first 3-days. Some shows and movies have promised cast appearances, but that’s still Tbd given that the SAG-AFTRA contract expires on July 12, and actors aren’t permitted to promote their wares during a work stoppage. There are some big pieces of IP below, read the new Peacock John Wick spinoff series, The Continental and Paramount’s Seth Rogen produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, as well as Jamie Lee Curtis, Tj Miller and...

Exclusive: The Sound Of Silence director Michael Tyburski’s dystopian romantic comedy Turn Me On, starring Bel Powley and Nick Robinson, has wrapped principal photography
London and Paris-based production, finance and sales company Film Constellation, which is handling international sales, has posted a first image ahead of unveiling a trailer in a pre-official Marché du Film kick-off screening on Monday.
In a world where the inconvenience of human emotion has been eradicated by a government-imposed daily vitamin, Powley and Robinson play a couple who skip their daily dose.
They discover love, joy and sex for the first time, but quickly come to realize they must also handle the emotional baggage that comes with it.
Justin H.Min, Emmy nominee D’Arcy Carden, Nesta Cooper and Griffin Newman (The Tick) round out the cast.
Turn Me On is the second collaboration between director Michael Tyburski and Film Constellation following his Sundance hit The Sound Of Silence, starring Peter Sarsgaard and Rashida Jones.
UTA and CAA Media Finance co-rep North America.
Turn Me On is produced by Zareh Nalbandian, Toby Nalbandian and Gregory Schmidt of Truant Pictures, a division of Animal Logic Entertainment (Peter Rabbit 1&2), and producer Sean Bradley (Paddleton). The script is written by Angela Bourassa who is also serving as executive producer.
Powley is represented by UTA, Curtis Brown and Jackoway Austen.

It's Star Wars Celebration week, folks! The annual Jabba-and-Jawas jamboree is coming to London this year, and that is all the excuse that Connor Ratliff, Griffin Newman and Patrick Cotnoir needed to bring their runaway hit, The George Lucas Talk Show, to the Soho Theatre for a couple of shows on Friday April 7th and Saturday April 8th. If you're unfamiliar, it's an improvised spoof chat show in which Ratliff plays Retired Filmmaker George Lucas and Newman plays his sidekick Watto, interviewing real guests about Star Wars and other animals.
Our Chris Hewitt is a huge fan, and he jumped at the chance to talk to the trio about the show's origins, how it transformed during the pandemic, and what they have in store for London audiences. Enjoy.

Who cares about Avatar? No one quite seems to know. James Cameron’s 2009 behemoth, the highest-grossing film in the world until Avengers: Endgame a decade later, has been at the centre of a small cultural fracas in the lead-up to its Covid-delayed sequel. One half of the internet has fervently defended the film against claims by the other that it’s, as actor and podcast host Griffin Newman once coined, only “memorable for being unmemorable”. Where is its mark on the world? Where are the legions of fans strutting around in blue body paint and wiggly cat ears? Where are the imitators? Shouldn’t there have been a million more derivative films about aliens defending themselves from colonisation?
I can answer these questions no better than anyone else. But, sitting down 13 years later to watch Avatar: The Way of Water, after years of Cameron promising his follow-up would make us...

With a few more weeks in the holiday season, you just know that this weekend’s new take on Pinocchio wouldn’t be the only family-aimed musical family feature based on a fairy tale. Well, “kind of” as this new film is a sequel to an unexpected hit from fifteen years ago that was “inspired” by those lush film fables with hummable tunes that Disney specialized in. In many ways, it was a parody of them, which is ironic since the “mouse house” produced it. Now many fans of that flick may wonder about those 2007 characters. Could they possibly change and become Disenchanted?
This follow-up actually begins in the fully-animated magical world of Andalasia, where the chipmunk Pip (voice of Griffin Newman) reads his twin boys a bedtime story, which, conveniently for “newbies” is a recap of the original film. But the lads implore their pop to tell them just...

What happens after the happily ever after? That’s the cheeky, and intriguing, question “Disenchanted” asks. The answers it comes up with, alas, aren’t quite the stuff dreams are made of.
Instead, this straight-to-streaming sequel seems to have been designed with another aim in mind: attracting as many festivity-fatigued families as possible. And in that, it’s likely to succeed. Because while “Disenchanted” is not entirely enchanting, it is a brightly energetic escape in the grand Disney tradition.
Unfortunately, there are other elements from the Disney tradition that should have been left behind. That, after all, was the point of 2007’s “Enchanted,” a disarmingly post-modern fairy tale that pulled Disney into the present with wit and charm.

Disney’s Enchanted (2007) was a funny and subversive tweak of the studio’s fantasy image, fueled by a star-making performance from Amy Adams and a tone that married a love of fairy tale conventions with a self-aware sense of humor. Fifteen years later, Disenchanted can’t quite recapture that magic.
In the years since Princess Giselle (Adams) came from her blissful cartoon kingdom of Andalasia to New York and married lawyer Robert (Patrick Dempsey), she’s found that it’s hard to keep the fairy tale going once you’ve settled down. Robert’s teenage daughter, Morgan (Gabriella Baldacchino) has developed a sarcastic streak and the couple’s new baby keeps them up all hours. Thinking that life in the big city may be the cause of their problems, Giselle and Patrick move to the suburbs of Monroeville.

If you need any proof of the faulty decision-making exemplified by the Oscars, consider that they failed to give Amy Adams an Academy Award for her sterling work in the 2007 Disney fantasy "Enchanted." Adams' performance in "Enchanted," in which she delivered a true breakout-star turn as an animated princess brought into the real world who was forced to learn about how our world is a bit different than hers, is a genuine force of nature. Though Adams was not a true ingenue at that point, she revealed her immense depth in screwball comedy, romance, and drama in her role as Giselle of Andalasia. But as remarkable as the performance was, revisiting the role that made her an A-List star 15 years down the line is a true risk. Yet it's a delightful surprise that the Disney+ sequel, "Disenchanted," in spite of having a thudder of a title, is a moderately charming affair bolstered,...

The new Disney+ film "Disenchanted" is a long time coming, following up the 2007 comedy that served as Amy Adams' breakout role. In "Disenchanted," Giselle, an animated princess who winds up in New York City, inadvertently brings fairytale characters, like her old friend Pip the chipmunk, to our world. This time around, Pip's a lot chattier, and is now voiced by Griffin Newman, comedian, co-host of the popular movie podcast "Blank Check with Griffin and David," and actor from "The Tick" and "Masters of the Universe: Revelation."
/Film sat down with Newman to talk about his unconventional casting, the possibility of becoming a Disney toy, fan encounters, and his recent Twitter suspension.

Kathy Griffin Suspended from Twitter After Parodying Elon Musk, Uses Dead Mother’s Account to Return
Elon Musk has only owned Twitter for a little over a week, but the billionaire is already making new enemies on the social media site.
On Sunday, comedian Kathy Griffin was banned from Twitter after she changed her display name and profile picture to match Musk’s, and wrote several satirical tweets mocking the Tesla and Space X CEO. The “impersonation” was paper-thin — her handle remained @kathygriffin and could be seen on all her tweets — but the suspension was accompanied by a tweet from Musk stating that “any Twitter handles engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying ‘parody’ will be permanently suspended.”

Disney+ has released a delightful new trailer for ‘Disenchanted,’ the all-new musical comedy and sequel to ‘Enchanted.’
It has been more than ten years since Giselle (Adams) and Robert (Dempsey) wed, but Giselle has grown disillusioned with life in the city, so they move their growing family to the sleepy suburban community of Monroeville in search of a more fairy tale life. Unfortunately, it isn’t the quick fix she had hoped for. Suburbia has a whole new set of rules and a local queen bee, Malvina Monroe (Rudolph), who makes Giselle feel more out of place than ever. 15 years after "Enchanted" hit theaters, we're finally about to follow up with the lovely Giselle (Amy Adams) and see what the real world has had in store for her. If the newest trailer for "Disenchanted" is anything to go by, she's had to make some big adjustments. Not only has she been married to attorney Robert (Patrick Dempsey) for 10 years, but she's also become the stepmother to his now teenage daughter, Morgan (Gabriella Baldacchino). Add this prototypical tension to the stresses of moving to the suburbs, and Giselle has found herself in over her head.
So, what does a fairy tale character do to alleviate these stresses? You obviously use a magic wand to cast a spell that turns the entire suburb into a fairy tale. Maybe that logic has a few flaws that we see in this latest trailer, including turning into an evil stepmother, but hey, it's the thought that counts.

Vought International has two new hires to boast about: Supes Firecracker and Sister Sage made their epic debut Monday in two first-look photos from “The Boys” Season 4 revealed by Amazon’s Prime Video.
In the photos, which you can view at the bottom of this post, you’ll see Susan Heyward suit up as Sister Sage and Valorie Curry rocking her Firecracker costume.
Both of the supersuits were designed by Laura Jean Shannon, “The Boys” costume designer who styled Jensen Ackles’ fan-favorite Soldier Boy look for Season 3.
Fans will want to pick the details of these costumes apart as much as possible, because Amazon says that everything else about the Firecracker and Sister Sage characters “will be kept under wraps until the season airs.” While we don’t know when that will be just yet, we do know “The Boys” Season 4 is currently in production in Toronto — so stay tuned.

Owen Kline is not the most obvious underground artist. The son of Kevin Kline and Phoebe Cates may be best known for his performance as the younger sibling in Noah Baumbach’s “The Squid and the Whale,” a role he landed with zero acting ambition around the age of 13. Some privileged child stars follow such an impressive early turn by growing up in the public eye and amassing a filmography that would follow them into adulthood. Others have drug-fueled meltdowns. Kline, however, interned at Anthology Film Archives, dreamed of becoming a cartoonist, and eventually embraced a form of unfiltered, rough-and-tumble filmmaking that doesn’t exactly scream commerciality. Now, at the age of 30, he’s ready to explain himself.
“I always sort of reviled show business,” Kline said in an interview over lunch this month. “It was always repugnant to me. I’m really someone who’s resistant to showing my face in general.

Bringing back He-Man and the Master of the Universe was always a no brainer. The original cartoon, which ran for just two years back in mid 80s, while massively derivative was also massively influential. Netflix had already hit creative paydirt with its Anime-influenced She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, the smart, overtly queer, rainbow-filled delight that wrapped up its run in 2020.
Bringing Adora’s super-swole brother back was an obvious move. That Kevin Smith was at the helm, promising a direct follow up to the old cartoons and featuring barely-messed-with character designs, only sharpened the excitement.
He-Man, of course, has been rebooted before – three times, in fact, if you count the 1987 live action film – and never especially successfully. Those previous versions, as with She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, were specifically designed to take the frame of the original story and drape a more up-to-date adventure for modern kids over it.

Masters of the Universe will once again have the power, this time on the platform of Netflix, which has unveiled a new animated series shaped under the creative auspices of geek royalty in showrunner/executive producer Kevin Smith. Consequently, the latest iteration of the Mattel Toy property, which dominated pop culture during the 1980s, is carrying classic-inspired sensibilities, as the new show’s first images clearly prove. It’s a retro direction—in stark contrast to other revivals of the property—that Smith confirms was no accident.
Two years after it was announced, Netflix animated revival Masters of the Universe: Revelation has officially revealed a first array of preview images (seen just below), with a release date set for July. Said images (mostly) check off a “who’s who” lineup culled from the franchise’s famously deep well of characters. However, the aesthetics appear to be an artful amalgamation of...

Mattel Television and Netflix released the first look “Masters of the Universe: Revelation,” and it turns out the characters — including He-Man, Skeletor, Teela and Orko — look a lot like they did on the beloved 1980s animated series “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe,” just a bit glowed up.
They also announced the show will premiere globally on July 23.
Since the series was announced in 2019, fans have been speculating just what executive producer and showrunner Kevin Smith — writer-director of “Clerks,” “Chasing Amy” and “Dogma” — would be doing with the property. As the images make clear, Smith and the team at Powerhouse Animation (also the animation studio behind Netflix’s “Castlevania” series) are paying homage not just to the look of the original series, but its storylines as well.

Chinese censors may search content obsessively for what they deem to be objectionable material, but they apparently don’t consider a film’s off-screen controversy quite as closely.
At a time when China is booting major films like “Nomadland” or “Monster Hunter” from cinemas for perceived “insults to China,” its authorities have green lit Woody Allen’s troubled “A Rainy Day in New York” for theatrical release in the world’s largest film market.
Although a few of Allen’s films, such as “Midnight in Paris” and 2012’s “To Rome with Love,” have screened at the Shanghai Intl. Film Festival, “Rainy Day” will mark Allen’s first proper theatrical release in the country.
Its debut will make China only the third country to release the title in the wake of the pandemic, and the first to do so in wake of last month’s HBO doc miniseries “Allen v. Farrow,...

Exclusive: Valorie Curry (The Tick) and Eddie Izzard (Six Minutes To Midnight) are set to star opposite Ashley Zukerman in Langdon, NBC’s drama pilot based on Dan Brown’s best-selling thriller novel The Lost Symbol.
The project, which hails from Imagine Television, CBS TV Studios and Universal Television, was among five 2020 pilots which NBC yesterday committed to filming later this year, once production can safely begin. Curry and Izzard’s castings were already in the works in mid-March when Hollywood production was suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Written by Dan Dworkin and Jay Beattie, Langdon follows the early adventures of famed Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon (Zukerman), who must solve a series of deadly puzzles to save his kidnapped mentor and thwart a chilling global conspiracy.

In an absolute “reading the room” hall of fame moment, Paramount Network has canceled the long running police reality series Cops.
“Cops is not on the Paramount Network and we don’t have any current or future plans for it to return,” a network spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter.
All re-airings of Cops had been removed from Paramount Network’s schedule since at least June 1. The decision to remove the show from the air was made in light of George Floyd’s death at the hands of the Minneapolis police department on May 25.
Cops has aired on Paramount Network since Spike TV rebranded into the new channel in 2018. Spike TV picked up Cops in 2013 after it ended a record 25-season run on Fox. The show was set to premiere its 33rd season on Monday.
Cops was one of the longest running TV series in the United States in any genre or format.
