As a teen just getting into the world of low-budget horror movies, and straight to VHS fare, there were a handful of directors whose work I would buy and/or rent without fail and without any prior knowledge (besides the spiel on the back of the box) of what i was getting into. One of those directors was Fred Olen Ray, the genius behind such films as Scalps, Star Slammer, Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers, Evil Toons, Cyclone and the awesome Scream Queen Hot Tub Party. However in the intervening years it’s safe to say I haven’t had the urge to watch as many of his flicks as I did in the 80s/90s heyday...

Stars: Lance Reddick, Miko Hughes, Grant Bowler, Tawny Cypress, Anthony Marks, Evalena Marie, Bobby Rice | Written by John Doolan | Directed by Colin Theys
Ok, so colour me surprised. I’ll admit I had no real idea what Remains was when I was sent it to review, to me it looked like it could be an interesting zombie movie. Little did I know it was based on the comic of the same name by Steve Niles, the genius behind 30 Days of Night. Turning his hand from vampire lore to zombie tale, with the comic Niles once again manages to create a refreshing new take on a oft-told and familiar story; and the same applies to this movie which was made by, and originally aired on, the Chiller cable network in the Us.

Some zombie tales - very much like the undead shambling about at their core - find a way of being resurrected. Take the zombie boom of the mid-'00s. Dawn of the Dead was revitalized for a modern movie-going audience. Elsewhere, George Romero's zombies "lived on" in Land of the Dead, and in some respects, fueled a comic book that was just getting its start at the time called "The Walking Dead."
It was around this period that a comic called Remains was introduced.
Written by Steve Niles and featuring illustrations caked with meat, gristle and irradiated pus by Kieron Dwyer, Remains gave readers a glimpse as a world unified by peace until, one day, someone presses the wrong button and the human race is practically annihilated. Focus shifts to Reno, Nevada where a casino blackjack dealer named Tom and a waitress named Tori attempt to get along with...

Chiller released a photo gallery via the network's official site. Here are a few pics. You'll find the rest right here . Remains stars Grant Bowler, Evalena Marie, Lance Reddick, Miko Hughes, Tawny Cyrpress, Terry Shappert, Frank Taveres and Bobby Rice and airs December 16.

I don’t know much about director Colin Theys’ upcoming undead outing “Remains”, but I do know this: The new artwork is pretty badass. Sure, it’s got that comic book vibe that everyone seems to be going for these days, but I’m a sucker for those things, and this one is really well done. The film is currently in post-production, though the poster suggests that flick will see the light of day later this year. Assuming, of course, that everything goes according to plan. Need a synopsis? I happen to have one right here: The story centers on two lone survivors of a bizarre accident that reduced most of the world’s population to zombies. They take refuge in a vacant casino and fight a losing battle against the undead. Simple enough, right? “Remains” stars Miko Hughes, Evalena Marie, Grant Bowler, Lance Reddick, Tawny Cypress, Terry Shappert, Frank Taveres,...

If you're at Comic-Con next week, you'll likely see a presence for Remains , the zombie flick based on Steve Niles' graphic novel. Chiller airs the movie this fall and artist Kieron Dwyer - who illustrated the comic - whipped up this promo poster, which I presume will be available in San Diego. Colin Theys directed Remains and Grant Bowler, Evalena Marie, Lance Reddick, Miko Hughes, Tawny Cyrpress, Terry Shappert, Frank Taveres and Bobby Rice star. The story follows a blackjack dealer and a dancer in Reno, Nevada as they find themselves trapped in a casino when a nuclear accident zombifies everyone on earth. Don't forget, you can find all San Diego Comic-Con footage Via This Link .

Writer Steve Niles posted the following image to his Facebook page today: A behind-the-scenes look at Remains , now shooting in Connecticut for the Chiller network. What are you looking at? That's actor Grant Bowler, as Tom, inside a giant metal ball. If you're familiar with the graphic novel the film is based on, well, you'll know Tom uses this ball to avoid getting munched on by the hordes of zombies roaming Reno, Nevada's streets. This is cool because I thought this is one scene that would have been nixed based on budgetary constraints. Nice to see they're going for it. Colin Theys is directing. Evalena Marie, Lance Reddick, Miko Hughes, Tawny Cyrpress, Terry Shappert, Frank Taveres and Bobby Rice co-star.

Shock scored a cool, detailed look at one of the many shambling corpses you'll see in Remains . What you see below are some behind-the-scenes shots taken on the Connecticut set. Filming is underway for Chiller under the direction of Colin Theys. The project, geared for television, is based on the graphic novel by Steve Niles and Kieron Dwyer. And don't worry, the zombies here prefer human flesh over gummi bears. Grant Bowler, Evalena Marie, Lance Reddick, Miko Hughes, Tawny Cyrpress, Terry Shappert, Frank Taveres and Bobby Rice star.

Seeing as my folks live in Connecticut, big thanks to them for catching an article featured at a Norwich news outlet that visited the set of Remains , the zombie film shooting around the area and is based on the Steve Niles/Kieron Dwyer graphic novel of the same name. Director Colin Theys is at the helm, working with cast members Grant Bowler, Evalina Marie, Lance Reddick, Miko Hughes, Tawny Cyrpress, Terry Shappert, Frank Taveres and Bobby Rice. And let's not forget the hordes of zombie extras. The site hosts a series of on-set videos and photos, one of which you can see below. Check out a full photo gallery right here . In case you missed it here , we dropped a bit of exclusive casting news. Evalina Marie (pictured below) has been locked to star "Tori," the Reno waitress who is trapped in a casino during a zombie apocalypse. In addition to that casting bite, we have also learned Terry Shappert, Frank Taveres and Bobby Rice have roles in this adaptation of the Steve Niles graphic novel. They'll join Grant Bowler, Lance Reddick and Miko Hughes. Chiller is producing the film which is expected to air this fall.

A new webisode series from the creator of Star Trek: New Voyages plans on injecting new life into a golden age outer space hero: Buck Rogers Begins.
Production has begun on a new live-action Buck Rogers series that will start off telling the origins of the character before his adventures in the post-apocalyptic world of the 25th century. While the action will take place in the early portion of the 20th century, the show's producers are striving to keep their bar raised high, giving the show a "retro-modern" look and feel with high production values and effects, solid acting and a modern day, serious approach to its stories. "We've got our Buck and some other key characters and are in talks with actors who have serious science fiction credentials to join the show," said executive producer James Cawley, the man who created the hit web-based Star Trek: New Voyages series.

James Cawley is boldly going where a few others have gone before. The producer of Star Trek: Phase II has teamed with screenwriter/novelist Flint Dille for a Buck Rogers web series and hopes to produce twenty 40-minute web episodes about the space adventurer. (Thanks to TrekMovie.com for the scoop.) Cawley Entertainment secured the rights to the classic character – created in 1928 by Philip Francis Nowlan – and will focus on how Rogers went from World War I to 25th century Earth using a “retro-contemporary” look and CGI. Dille and Cawley will serve as executive producers of the web series, with Dille also serving as a consultant; the property has been owned by the Dille Syndication Co. since John F. Dille purchased the character for the comic strip in 1929. Cawley has already cast his Buck Rogers and is going with an actor he’s familiar with: Bobby Rice, who played Peter Kirk in Phase II.
