The Tomb Raider franchise is reportedly coming back with a new game, with iconic protagonist Lara Croft rumored to be venturing to the sprawling, colorful lands of India. The last entry in the franchise, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, released six years ago.
It’s been common knowledge that a new entry has been in the works at the studio for some time, but with this potential open-world title, Crystal Dynamics has a chance to ensure respectful cultural portrayals within the franchise, something the last game stumbled with.

Disney+ plans to launch new linear-tv-like channels with Star Wars or Marvel shows, according to a report from The Information. But don’t call them Fast channels, because considering the Disney+ subscription price, they wouldn’t be free.
First things first: IndieWire went straight to the source, a spokesperson for Disney’s streaming business, to inquire. The spokesperson declined comment. Shoot.
So then we went straight to the guy who coined the Fast acronym — it stands for Free, ad-Supported Streaming Television — for his opinion on the report.
Alan Wolk has been yelling at SVOD (Streaming Video On-Demand — not Wolk’s acronym) services to roll out preprogrammed channels for years now. It’s Fast without the free; it’s broadcast and cable TV without the cord. Programmers set a 24/7 schedule of owned and licensed content, one after another in whatever order, and they will come. Who’s “they”? Folks who don...

This week brought two brand new episodes of "The Bad Batch," a larger story in the context of the season's overarching narrative. Though the Bad Batch features prominently in these two episodes, dozens of other Clones take center stage as we learn that Captain Rex has been building an entire cadre of Clones to fight the Empire. Rex has even managed to catch one of the mysterious Clone sleeper agents created by the Empire alive. Unable to get any information out of him, however, Rex and his crew have no idea there's a homing beacon inside the Clone, leading the Empire right to them.
Meanwhile, the Bad Batch answers Rex's call, unaware they're being hunted as well. As more and more Clones on both sides of the conflict arrive at Rex's secret hideout,...

Remember when we first met Din Djarin? He swaggers into that cantina in the first episode of The Mandalorian, takes down a few ruffians, and flies off with his quarry. No mess, no pomp, no big deal.
Those days now seem long gone, as what started out as a smaller-scale Western set in the world of Star Wars, between the Original and Sequel Trilogies, has now become the hope for the future of the franchise on the big screen. The characters will now be the focus of the next Star Wars movie. Directed by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian & Grogu is currently expected to release in 2026. Does this mean we won’t be seeing the beloved duo on screen at all until then? Or will a potential season 4 of the show bridge the gap on Disney+? It’s a question that has eluded Star Wars fans since the film project was first announced.

As the studio’s new head of creative, Dave Filoni will have greater influence over the future of the Star Wars franchise.
You don’t need us to tell you that Lucasfilm has struggled with Star Wars over the last few years. The studio’s small screen offerings have been a pretty mixed bag, while on the movie front, things have gotten increasingly bleak as a series of cancellations, firings and premature announcements have often offered the impression that the studio’s leadership is clearly struggling to figure out a clear path forwards.
One bright light in all of this has been Dave Filoni who, more often than not, has been behind some of the series’ most successful creative successes.

This article contains spoilers for "Star Wars: Ahsoka" episode 8 — "The Jedi, The Witch, and the Warlord."
Well, the season finale of "Ahsoka" is somehow already here, and it definitely left us wanting more. That's not to say that episode 8, "The Jedi, The Witch and The Warlord," was lackluster or anticlimactic, necessarily. There was plenty of action and intrigue as Ahsoka teamed up with Ezra Bridger and Sabine Wren on the planet Peridea to try and prevent Thrawn and his army of death troopers from escaping out of exile. Now that Thrawn has finally been introduced into live-action after appearing in "Star Wars Rebels" and multiple novels by Timothy Zahn, he was finally given the spotlight he truly deserves. Then, the credits rolled.
As the last few minutes of the finale came to pass, multiple threads popped up that were all incredibly compelling, suggesting that there is much more to come.

“Ahsoka” is quietly going down as one of the best pieces of “Star Wars” content we’ve had in years alongside “Andor.” Playing largely as a live-action fifth season of the cherished animated series “Rebels,” this Disney+’s hit takes place after “Return of the Jedi” when the Galactic Empire has fallen. However, all is not as well in the galaxy as it might seem as former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano begins to uncover a plot to re-introduce the Empire into a galaxy still finding its feet amidst a new order.
A large part of the show’s success should be attributed to Rosario Dawson, who plays Ahsoka as wise, calm, and assured in the face of so much uncertainty and chaos. Dawson brings to life this live-action version of Ahsoka with maturity, sophistication, and a deftness of touch that befits the character’s arc from bratty youth in the...

Star Wars fans were right about Ahsoka's youngest star and Hera Syndulla's son, Jacen.
Jacen Syndulla first appeared in Star Wars Rebels' epilogue where he was revealed to be the son of Hera (played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead in live-action) and the late Kanan Jarrus, the Order 66 survivor and Jedi Knight who trained Ezra Bridger.
Ashoka brought Jacen to live-action through young actor Evan Whitten while also teasing an important aspect of his character.

The latest Disney+ series "Ahsoka" introduces "Star Wars" fans to some new villains. We already met Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto), the Imperial Magistrate of Calodan on "The Mandalorian," but now she's working with two Force users, Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson) and Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno). Baylan is a former Jedi who managed to survive Order 66 and is now acting as a mercenary for Elsbeth. He and his apprentice Shin appear to be powered by the dark side of the Force. While a single master and apprentice usually indicate a Sith pair, these two aren't wielding red lightsabers like, say, Darth Vader. Baylan and Shin's lightsabers are orange in color.
The orange lightsabers definitely grabbed the notice of fans when the first "Ahsoka" trailer was released. In fact, creator Dave Filoni confirmed to Screen Rant during Star Wars Celebration earlier this year that these are, in fact, orange lightsabers and told the site,...

Early reactions for the latest Disney+ "Star Wars" series, "Ahsoka," are rolling in, and critics and "Star Wars" fans who caught the first two episodes seem to be fairly impressed by the latest series — if not immediately blown away. So far, the Disney+ live-action "Star Wars" shows have been hit or miss, with "Andor" and "The Mandalorian" embraced for their uniqueness and stylistic flair, while "Obi-Wan" and "The Book of Boba Fett" garnered more mixed reactions.
"Ahsoka" in particular has a lot riding on its success, given that the animated series featuring Ahsoka Tano are some of the most beloved "Star Wars" properties of the 21st century. Rosario Dawson's live-action take on Anakin Skywalker's former Padawan was initially introduced in "The Mandalorian," but while Jon Favreau holds the reigns for that show, it's "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" mastermind Dave Filoni who's set to shepherd the new series as showrunner.

As the star of two high-profile Disney projects within a matter of weeks, Rosario Dawson is grateful to be spending her summer in the Magic Kingdom.
First up is writer Katie Dippold and director Justin Simien’s Haunted Mansion, which turns Disneyland’s beloved attraction into a supernatural horror-comedy that tackles grief and loss in an accessible and relatable way. Dawson plays Gabbie, a single mother who’s acquired the titular mansion in order to turn it into a bed and breakfast, all so that her son (Chase Dillon’s Travis) can become more adept at social situations. However, she quickly realizes that she’s going to need a team of eccentric characters to help remedy the ghost-filled mansion that she bought sight unseen.

"The Clone Wars" is one of the best things to ever happen to "Star Wars." It reinvigorated the franchise and introduced the galaxy far, far away to a whole new generation, but it also improved what was already on the screen, fleshing out characters and stories and expanding their scope. Anakin suddenly became the tragic figure he was originally meant to be, the hero we were led to believe he was. Meanwhile, the Clone Troopers became distinct characters with different personalities. The show even filled in plot holes and expanded the lore in fascinating ways, like the Ghost of Mortis arc or bringing Darth Maul back from the dead.
Arguably the biggest contribution "The Clone Wars" gave the franchise at large was the character of Ahsoka Tano. First introduced as Anakin's padawan, she grew from a rash, precocious kid with a lot in common with her master, to one of...

In The Mandalorian Season 2’s “The Jedi,” there comes a point in Ahsoka Tano’s (Rosario Dawson) battle with Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto) where a built-in, nearly fourth-wall-breaking pause is all but palpable. Holding the corrupt Magistrate at lightsaber-point, Ashoka demands to know the location of Elsbeth’s master: “Where is Grand Admiral Thrawn?” At that point, Mandalorian viewers split into two camps—those who filled the pause with cheers, screams, or yells, and those who spent it wondering, “Who is Grand Admiral Thrawn?” There’s no shame in belonging to the latter category. Thrawn, who we now know will be played in live-action by his original Rebels voice actor, Lars Mikkelsen, holds a both venerated and complex station in Star Wars canon. Here’s what you should know about one of the galaxy’s most formidable Imperials, before he appears in this summer’s Ahsoka. An Unusual History...

The trailer for the upcoming "Star Wars" television series "Ahsoka" gave fans a peak at how the long-beloved character will make her solo live-action debut. Ahsoka Tano has long been an essential part of Dave Filoni's animated "Star Wars" shows, "The Clone Wars" and "Rebels," but those who skipped watching these will soon get a chance to better acquaint themselves with Anakin Skywalker's former apprentice. The facial markings, red skin, and horns that actor Rosario Dawson is wearing make it clear that Ahsoka is one of the many alien species found across the "Star Wars" galaxy, but who, exactly, are the Togruta?
One of the coolest parts of both "The Clone Wars" and "Rebels" was the way they expanded on the politics and cultures of other planets. The "Star Wars" films never truly got to dig deep into these alien words, but now that television has become a...

The Karnataka government on Monday made wearing of masks in public places compulsory as a preventive method to tackle the evolving Covid situation in the state. It also has also released guidelines for the New Year, limiting the celebration time.
Revenue Minister R Ashoka, talking to reporters after holding a meeting with the officials of the Health and Disaster Management Departments, announced the decision of making wearing of masks compulsory. “However, fines will not be imposed for not wearing masks as of now,” he said.
“In the interest of the people, wearing masks is made mandatory,” he added.
The government has also made two doses of vaccination and wearing of masks compulsory for the staff of all theaters, malls, hotels, restaurants, indoor programmes, public meetings and schools and colleges, the Minister said.
“Taking a booster dose is recommended. The hotels and pubs should operate with the present seating capacity, and they should not increase it.

Lightsaber combat is an integral part of Star Wars DNA. The franchise is an amalgamation of many different genres, and a "laser sword" combines the futurism of science fiction with the chivalry of medieval knights. Even if it doesn't feel as exciting today as it was in 1977, Obi-Wan Kenobi's (Sir Alec Guinness) duel with Darth Vader (David Prowse) in "Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope" established a key aspect of the saga. Luke Skywalker's (Mark Hamill) battles with Vader in "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi" are more epic, and conclude with shocking plot twists. Lightsaber combat grew more exciting thanks to the Star Wars prequel trilogy, where Jedi Knights wielded their weapons when they were supposedly at the height of their powers.

Actors, directors and producers also capitalised on the audience opening up to the relatively new medium and made content exclusively for the Ott market. Even though many of the big south Indian releases scheduled for this year were postponed, there were several notable films which were released. Perhaps these wouldn't have received the same attention if they'd gone to theatres first, considering the competition. In all the films which came out this year — in theatres and Ott — several actors made their mark. Here's a look at such performances from Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada cinema that left us impressed, irrespective of whether the films worked overall or not. The list is in the order of the release.
