Exclusive: Aaron Sorkin is reconfirming his dedication to chronicling the rise and scandalous fall of a presidential candidate. The Newsroom and West Wing creator, one of Hollywood’s most outspoken voices in the recent Sony hacking attack, has extended his option on Nyt bestseller The Politician, Andrew Young’s explosive 2010 tell-all about the adultery scandal that ended former North Carolina Senator John Edwards’ 2008 Democratic Presidential campaign.
Young exposed shocking details of the married Edwards’ secret affair with campaign staffer Rielle Hunter that yielded an illegitimate child. The Politician revealed how Young, a volunteer in Edwards’ 1998 Senate run who became his trusted right hand man, was asked to help cover up Edwards’ adultery, fake paternity test results, and claim the child as his own for the Presidential hopeful.
The lid was blown when a tabloid newspaper uncovered the affair, which blindsided Edwards’ cancer-stricken wife Elizabeth and led to the implosion of Edwards’ presidential run.

Disgraced former U.S. Senator John Edwards won a $13 million settlement on Thursday for a 4-year-old boy who suffered brain damage, in his first trial since returning to the practice of law last year. "I was happy to be back in the courtroom," a beaming Edwards told Wnct as he left the courthouse in Greenville, North Carolina. "We fought like crazy for this kid. That's what this case was all about," Edwards said of Kaiden Gaymon, whose family claimed the boy was physically injured and suffered brain damage while being treated at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in 2009 for a respiratory virus.

In an upcoming "tell-all" book, Rielle Hunter calls the late Elizabeth Edwards a "witch on wheels" who drove former Senator John Edwards into the arms of other women, including Hunter's.
The book, "What Really Happened," is Hunter's account of her scandal-fraught affair with the one-time presidential and vice presidential hopeful. In it, Hunter characterizes Elizabeth Edwards as a "crazy" woman who yelled at her husband and even physically attacked him. She also says Elizabeth fired Edwards staffers and was wild with jealousy about her husband's "numerous" affairs.
Still, she says the cancer-stricken Elizabeth (who died in 2010) managed to keep up the public persona of a "saint."
She also alleges that Elizabeth "stalked" her after finding out about Hunter's affair with Edwards, calling and hanging up "at all hours of the day and night from various numbers."
Hunter details alleged affairs Edwards had with other women over two decades, though she says she was the last.

Sony Pictures has officially announced that The Social Network screenwriter Aaron Sorkin will adapt Walter Isaacson’s Steve Jobs biography for the big screen. This is a no brainer as Sorkin is one hell of a talented screenwriter! He's also written films such as A Few Good Man, Charlie Wilson's War, and Moneyball. Sorkin has been circling the project since late last year, but it looks like he's finally agreed to jump on board and write it. The guy is definitely the right man for the job, and there's no doubt he's going to knock out a tremendous script.
The announcement was made by Co-Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, Amy Pascal, who said,

Aaron Sorkin has officially signed on to adapt Steve Jobs, Walter Isaacson’s biography of the late Apple co-founder, Sony Pictures announced late Tuesday.
Sorkin, of course, won an Academy Award for his screenplay for The Social Network about Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, which led to speculation as far back as last October that he might take on the task of marshaling Jobs’ formidable life story into a workable feature-length film. ”Steve Jobs’ story is unique: he was one of the most revolutionary and influential men not just of our time but of all time,” said Sony Pictures co-head Amy Pascal in a statement.

With his untimely death last year, it’s no surprise that Hollywood is moving fast on a feature biopic surrounding Apple and Pixar co-founder Steve Jobs. Ashton Kutcher is currently sporting the look (see photos below via TMZ) of the technology pioneer for one currently-shooting adaptation of his life story and now Sony Pictures has news of another. Last year we heard that The Social Network Oscar-winner Aaron Sorkin was circling a biopic based on Walter Isaacson‘s book.
Tonight it becomes official, thanks to an official press release from the studio. Sorkin is of course a good fit, but I’d actually rather see him take his talents to a different arena, as some of the similar themes have already been covered in David Fincher‘s excellent work. Nonetheless, it’s hard to complain when one of Hollywood’s best writers continues getting gigs. Check out the official press release below,...

An escort told investigators that John Edwards paid her for sex in 2007, while he was married to Elizabeth Edwards, but the former Senator "denies that he was involved with any prostitute or service." Former Senator John Edwards has been accused of hiring a call girl, employed by Madam Anna Gristina, while he was married and running for President. The escort told investigators that John paid her for sex during a 2007 visit to New York City to raise money for his failed White House bid, according to DNAinfo. The mother-of-four-madam has been accused of running a multimillion dollar New York City prostitution ring with a little black book filled with powerful and wealthy clients. John's late-night rendezvous allegedly took place at a hotel suite located in Manhattan's upscale upper east side neighborhood. “Mr. Edwards categorically denies that he was involved with any prostitute or service,” said Allison Van Laningham, one of John's lawyers.

Commentators continue to guess at whether Gop candidates at the June 13 debate in New Hampshire will live up to their promises. But their faces never lie. Sensory Logic's Dan Hill analyzes their expressions for Fast Company to reveal what traditional pundits can't.
For those following the cycle of punditry, the June 13th Gop presidential debate from New Hampshire is all tucked in and sealed with a yawn. This guy.Over the weekend, there were a few developments in the sorry tale of John Edwards—a tale that is officially called, we’re pleased to remind you, U.S.A. vs. Johnny Reid Edwards. On Sunday, the Raleigh News and Observer reported thata plea deal imploded because the because the “government wanted to dictate a sentence that would result in up to six months of prison for Edwards.” As the former North Carolina senator has two young children, his lawyers “wanted the ability to at least argue to a judge for alternatives, such as a halfway house, weekend releases, home arrest or some arrangement that would allow Edwards” to care for them, according to the paper. Negotiations with prosecutors ultimately fell through last Friday; announcement of the indictment came minutes later.

Both the short-term affair of John Edwards with Rielle Hunter and Arnold Schwarzenegger with his affairs with multiple mistresses including Mildred Baena, the family housekeeper, were behind the scenes and out of the eyes of the media and their respective wives, Elizabeth Edwards and former first lady of California Maria Shriver, both resulted in a love child. John Edwards, expensively groomed former presidential candidate and bad liar, has been indicted “on federal campaign finance charges for allegedly using campaign donations to conceal an extramarital affair while he was running for the White House,” The Washington Post reports. Charges against him include conspiracy, false statements, and illegal campaign contributions. According to The New York Times, “Investigators have said that Mr. Edwards used more than $1 million from two top supporters, Rachel Mellon, a 100-year-old banking heiress, and Fred Baron, Mr. Edwards’s campaign finance chairman.” Hilariously, the federal trial is called “USA v. Former Senator John Edwards has moved back into his and Elizabeth's family home to raise their two young children, Emma, 12, and son Jack, 10.
Elizabeth Edwards had asked John to leave when his affair became public, but maintained a cordial relationship with him so their children could benefit. "They'll need to have a good relationship with their father," Elizabeth once told Larry King. "That's enormously important to me. He's been a great father to them in a lot of ways.

Elizabeth Edwards with her daughter Cate at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, Boston. By Elise Amendola/File/AP Photo. I will remember Elizabeth Edwards first and always as a mom. I think that’s the role she cherished most among the breathtaking range of roles she played. To be sure, lawyer, friend, political adviser and consigliere, sister, author, wife, advocate, and survivor were also deeply important to her and gave voice to her incredible intelligence and myriad passions. But nothing defined her more completely than the life she worked to build for and around her children. I met Elizabeth for the first time at a children’s birthday party in the spring of 2002. My husband, Todd, and I had moved back to Washington from Los Angeles the previous fall with our 18-month-old daughter, Kate. In the subsequent weeks, Kate met and became fast friends with two impossibly cute, tow-headed kids from the neighborhood,...
