According to rudimentary Googling, Apple has a generally well-regarded parental leave policy. But according to the output at Apple TV+, there is anxiety in the water in Cupertino (or in the company’s Los Angeles offices).
Dropping this Friday, The Changeling is the second Apple TV+ series in five years blending fairy tale and horror to delve into maternal and paternal anxieties about nature, nurture and the price paid when parents are forced to leave babies behind to return to work.
Perhaps not as bluntly effective as Servant, The Changeling is an admirably ambitious series, especially on thematic levels, where it seems to be bursting with commentary on 21st century parenting. As storytelling, though, Kelly Marcel’s adaptation of Victor Lavalle’s novel is a mess. Though the series isn’t lurching through time and frames of reality without intent, its refusal to build any sort of momentum becomes increasingly frustrating.

Lily-Rose Depp looks stunning in a tiny tank top and a miniskirt while walking around SoHo.
Depp was recently seen walking around the iconic New York neighborhood, SoHo, wearing a white striped tank top.
She paired this with a baby pink mini skirt, adding a little color to her outfit.
For her shoes, she opted for a pair of beige monks, as well as some white socks.
Like many people around the world, Depp also likes a good tote bag. This time, she decided on a white one with red straps.
The model was all smiles as she held an iced coffee in one hand and her phone connected to some headphones on the other.

Two new major releases in A Quiet Place Part II and Cruella helped to breathe life back into the box office last weekend, though results were stymied by the closure of cinemas across Victoria.
Paramount’s A Quiet Place Part II was one of the first films to be delayed by the pandemic. Some 14 months later than planned, the John Krasinski-helmed sequel premiered ahead of the 2018 original, topping the box office with $3.1 million from 542 screens. With previews from the previous weekend, it sits on highly respectable $5.2 million.
In the US, where it is Memorial Day weekend, the horror, starring Emily Blunt, Krasinski, Cillian Murphy, Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe is expected to post $58 million by Monday.
Despite a simultaneous PVOD release on Disney+, Cruella, starring Emma Stone in the titular role, still drew a respectable crowd for the Mouse House, bowing at no. 2 from $1.5 million from 452, or $1.6 million with previews.

Dueling Emmas face off in a battle of fashionistas behaving badly, in Cruella, in which Emma Thompson’s Anna Wintour-like fashion giant is challenged by Emma Stones’ Vivienne Westwood-like punk designer upstart. Cruella is more entertaining that one might expect for the live-action backstory of a Disney villain, Cruella de Vil from the animated classic 101 Dalmatians. Cruella is more entertaining that one might expect. Creative, energetic, dark and spiked with campy humor, Cruella is a surprising bit of fun.
Cruella is sympathetic backstory that paints the famous Disney villain as a misunderstood underdog, but one of the best things about Cruella is that it is not another Maleficent. If you liked that Disney villain origin story, you may not care for this one, as Cruella takes itself far less seriously.

What’s black and white and red all over? A Dalmatian thief with a diaper rash. Or a scarlet-frocked Disney de-Villainess making her debut in the London tabloids.
Starring Oscar winner Emma Stone as the monochrome-coiffed fashionista with a soft spot for puppy fur, “Cruella” takes its cues from the “Wicked” playbook — or more recently, Warner Bros.’ “Joker” — to deliver a dark yet sympathetic portrait of a cult-favorite character whom audiences only thought they knew. That character, of course, is “101 Dalmatians” dognapper Cruella de Vil (previously embodied by Glenn Close for one of the studio’s first live-action adaptations), who turns out to be more fierce than cruel in a franchise offering with an identify of its own.
What “Cruella” is not — to the immense relief of many, I’m sure — is another “Maleficent.” (Although who could top the casting of Angelina Jolie as Sleeping Beauty’s misunderstood nemesis?...

Aspiring fashionista Cruella is out for her boss’s skin in a riotous 101 Dalmatians origin-myth set in 70s London, starring Emmas Stone and Thompson in dynamic form
Kindly step back and make way for a sensational couple of Emmas: Stone and Thompson. Together, they are the highly strung dysfunctional double-act that post-lockdown cinema didn’t know it needed.
There’s an unexpectedly huge amount of old-fashioned fun to be had in Disney’s spectacular new origin-myth story from screenwriters Aline Brosh McKenna, Kelly Marcel and Steve Zissis, prebooting Cruella de Vil, the wicked dognapper from One Hundred and One Dalmatians. She is now an icily supercool supervillain, and Stone gives it everything she’s got – which is a considerable amount – as Estella, a young orphan girl with a genetic quirk of black-and-white hair. I was hoping for some Susan Sontag gags, but you can’t have everything. She grows up...

Early word is in for “I, Tonya” director Craig Gillespie’s flamboyant spin on the origin story of iconic Disney villain Cruella de Vil, and the film looks to be a winner. Emma Stone is being praised for her wicked twist on the “101 Dalmatians” villainess. Emma Thompson is also being singled out for her turn as Baroness von Hellman, the head of a swank fashion house and also a renowned haute fashion legend. Check out first reactions below.
Disney’s synopsis for “Cruella” reads: “In 1970s London, young fashion designer Estella de Vil becomes obsessed with dogs’ skins, especially Dalmatians, until she eventually becomes a ruthless and terrifying legend known as Cruella.”
Like many indie filmmakers, Gillespie turned his indie film success into a Disney tentpole directing gig. The filmmaker last worked with Disney on two projects: “The Finest Hours” and “Million Dollar Arm,” although neither title found great box office success.

In the latest trailer for “Cruella” we see how Emma Stone’s Disney villain got her “killer instinct,” one nurtured by a cutthroat fashion designer played by Emma Thompson.
Thompson is giving us some serious Miranda Priestly vibes as the Baroness von Hellman, a fashion legend who is described as “devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute.” She spots Cruella’s flair for fashion as part of the punk rock revolution in London in the 1970s and gives her a job, only for that relationship to set off Cruella’s wicked side — including her first big crime of swiping the Baroness’ dogs.
“Let me give you some advice. You can’t care about anyone else. Everyone else is an obstacle. You care what an obstacle wants, you’re dead,” Thompson says in the trailer. “If I’d cared about anyone or thing, I might have died. You have the talent. Whether you...

Is Emma Stone the new Joker in “Cruella” as some online fans have speculated? Is the origin story a new trend we’ll see for every franchise property going forward? Look, it’s a dark origin story, based on the “101 Dalmatians” film, but maybe not that dark. “It’s very different from Joker in many ways” director Craig Gillespie told Total Film recently, rejecting the Joker theory, “I would never even remotely compare myself to Joaquin Phoenix…I wish I was more like him.”

Exclusive: In its first 24 hours after dropping on Feb. 17, the trailer for Disney’s edgy live-action feature Cruella about the famed 101 Dalmatians villainess drew a very notable 71M views per sources.
That’s a very exceptional number for a trailer dropping during the pandemic, even beating the 24 hour trailer viewership figures of pre-Covid theatrical releases Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (61.7M) and Will Smith-Guy Ritchie hit Aladdin (60.8M).
True, Cruella‘s traffic is a far cry from Disney’s Lion King trailer which posted an awesome first day record of 224M global views after dropping on Thanksgiving Day 2018. Disney found blockbuster success in 2014 by telling the origin story of “Sleeping Beauty” villain Maleficent (the Angelina Jolie-starring tentpole grossed $758 million worldwide and led to an underperforming 2019 sequel), and now the Mouse House is hoping to have similar luck with “Cruella,” a deep dive into the younger days of the iconic “One Hundred and One Dalmatians” villain Cruella de Vil. "You have to experience the good... to appreciate the bad." Whoa! Amazon has unveiled an official trailer for an indie sci-fi drama titled Bliss, the latest from the director of Another Earth and I Origins. What?! No idea he was even making a new film! And it's out in less than a month. A recently-divorced guy falls for an enchanting woman's theory that they live in a harsh, alternative simulation inside of a beautiful, blissful reality. When their newfound 'Bliss' world begins to bleed into the 'ugly' world they must decide what's real and where they truly belong. Owen Wilson stars with Salma Hayek, plus Nesta Cooper, Madeline Zima, Joshua Leonard, Ronny Chieng, and Steve Zissis. I love the concept in this - exploring a timely idea of whether or not a delusional world is more interesting to live in than the real one. A must see trailer.

Showtime has officially released a trailer for upcoming two-night limited series “The Comey Rule,” featuring Jeff Daniels as former FBI director James Comey and Brendan Gleeson as President Trump. The miniseries, written and directed by Billy Ray and adapted from Comey’s book “A Higher Loyalty,” premieres on Sunday, Sept. 27.
Focusing on the events leading up to and following the 2016 U.S. presidential election, the first part of the series looks at the earliest days of the Russia investigation and the FBI’s prove of Hillary Clinton’s emails.
In the trailer, a voice on the phone says, “Russia — we think they’re trying to sabotage Secretary Clinton’s campaign.”
“How?” asks Daniels as Comey.
“Ever spend much time on Facebook?” is the reply.
The second part of the series dives into the uneasy dynamic between Comey and Trump in the early months of Trump’s presidency. In the trailer,...

As America gears up for the 2020 presidential election between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, Showtime will be taking two nights ahead of Election Day to reexamine the turbulent 2016 election between Trump and Hillary Clinton thanks to the upcoming miniseries “The Comey Rule.” Written and directed by “Captain Phillips” and “Shattered Glass” scribe Billy Ray, “The Comey Rule” is based on the bestselling book “A Higher Loyalty” and explores the relationship between Trump and former FBI director Joseph Comey.
Showtime is billing “The Comey Rule” as “an immersive, behind-the-headlines account of the historically turbulent events surrounding the 2016 presidential election and its aftermath, which divided a nation.” The miniseries’ official synopsis adds: “Rather than a biopic of one man, the series tells the story of two powerful figures, Comey and Trump, whose strikingly different personalities, ethics and loyalties put them on a collision course.”

Showtime has just set a late November premiere date over two nights for its limited series The Comey Rule, the $40 million budget adaptation of A Higher Loyalty, the book by former FBI head James Comey that is about his battles with President Donald Trump.
