Actor Jared Leto had a brief run as the Joker in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. But Ayer wondered if Leto perhaps went too far into his character’s psyche.
Jared Leto shot way more footage for Joker in ‘Suicide Squad’ Jared Leto | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
David Ayer’s Suicide Squad introduced audiences to Leto’s take on the Gotham super villain. The film’s director, David Ayer, hoped to offer a unique interpretation of the Joker that audiences hadn’t seen before.
Leto is known to take a deep dive into his film roles. So with the Joker, the actor went to some frightening places both for him and the director. So much so that Ayer would actually refer to Leto by his character name on set.
“I’d call him Mr. J. and I’d be very respectful. You have to create a safe-space for actors. I mean,...

“The White Lotus” creator Mike White’s idea for Season 3 of the hit show has already gone down well with HBO bosses, confirmed Casey Bloys at Series Mania.
The executive revealed at the French drama festival on Thursday that White has “just pitched us the idea and it’s great. It’s a really fun idea and he’s shown it’s possible.”
Speaking to entertainment journalist Edith Bowman, Bloys added that White is “casting people you know” in the show, but writing their characters in a way that “allows you to rediscover them or see them in a new light” — an obvious nod to now Golden Globe-winning actor Jennifer Coolidge.
The HBO exec also noted that he “would have taken more” seasons of “Succession” but respected showrunner Jesse Armstrong’s decision to end the hit drama with Season 4.

The character Jake Sully has been the narrator of both the first Avatar (watch it Here) and the sequel Avatar: The Way of Water (read our review Here), but now franchise mastermind James Cameron has revealed that he is losing his narration job as of Avatar 3, which is set to reach theatres on December 20, 2024. During an interview on Soundtracking With Edith Bowman, Cameron gave away the fact that the narrator of the next sequel is the son of Jake Sully and Neytiri, Lo’ak. Several celebrities and public figures have fiercely condemned Jeremy Clarkson’s “vile” and “hateful” rant against Meghan Markle in a newspaper column.
In an op-ed for The Sun published on Friday (16 December), Clarkson wrote that he loathes the Duchess of Sussex “on a cellular level” and wants people to “throw lumps of excrement” at her.
“Everyone who’s my age thinks the same way,” Clarkson added.
Now, several prominent figures – from comedians Kathy Burke and John Bishop to Countdown star Carol Vorderman – have criticised Clarkson’s comments.
Bishop tweeted that the remarks were a “blatant appeal to incite humiliation and violence on a woman”.
He added: “Some have excused it as dark humour. There is no joke here Jeremy Clarkson, and no excuse.”

On the eve of the premiere of the fifth season of “The Crown,” Edith Bowman hosted a virtual press conference with six of the Netflix drama’s new cast members: Elizabeth Debicki, Lesley Manville, Jonny Lee Miller, Jonathan Pryce, Imelda Staunton, and Dominic West. Having inherited their roles as British royal family members and associates from the younger cast of Season 4, these performers are tasked with depicting their established characters’ “biggest challenge yet: proving their continued relevance in ‘90s Britain.”
Read their responses to questions regarding the experience of bringing these iconic figures to life.
Imelda Staunton (Queen Elizabeth II): “When you’ve got the writing there that does probably about 80, if not more, of the work… the challenge is getting the audience to come inside, hopefully, and see what you’re feeling without showing what you’re feeling… I think for all of us… this family… we are locked.

NBC’s ‘New Amsterdam’ To Be Remade In Turkey
NBCUniversal Formats has struck its first licensing deal for New Amsterdam, with Turkish network Show TV picking up David Schulner’s hit NBC show for a reversion. Hayat Bugün (Life is Today) is being produced locally by 03 Medya in association with Universal International Studios, with Schulner consulting on the series. The Turkish version follows Dr. Bariş, the newly appointed Chief of Medicine at one of Turkey’s most famous and oldest public hospitals, as he works to reform the neglected facility by tearing up its bureaucracy to provide exceptional care to patients using creative solutions. The U.S. original, starring Ryan Eggold, Freema Agyeman and Janet Montgomery, is based on an Eric Manheimer book and has run for four seasons on NBC since 2018. Schulner said the 03 Medya team have “taken the hard-earned optimism of New Amsterdam and made it their own.

Much of the conversation surrounding this year’s Best Limited Series Emmy race is focused on Netflix, partly because it produced the most recent winner in the category (“The Queen’s Gambit”), but also thanks to its robust slate of one-off shows that aired during the 2021-2022 season. Among these is “Anatomy of a Scandal,” a legal thriller centered on an effort to hold a British politician accountable for his abhorrent actions. Showrunner/executive producer/writer Melissa James Gibson and cast members Michelle Dockery, Rupert Friend, Sienna Miller, Naomi Scott and Josette Simon recently sat down with Edith Bowman for a 2022 Emmys FYC panel during which they expounded on the importance of the show. Watch the video Q&a above.

Aussie actress Rebel Wilson has been set as the host of the 2022 BAFTA Film Awards, which are taking place in person on March 13, 2022.
The ceremony, staged at London’s Royal Albert Hall, will be broadcast on BBC One and iPlayer.
Wilson takes over the reins from Edith Bowman and Dermot O’Leary, who hosted last year’s semi-virtual edition.
The actress previously brought down the BAFTA house in 2020 with this speech:
BAFTA nominations will be unveiled on February 3. The longlists were published this week.
Yesterday, the Critics’ Choice Awards confirmed that due to TV scheduling they will be moving to the same date as BAFTA, a potentially thorny issue for talent who are nominated at both awards shows.
“I am very honoured to be hosting the Ee British Academy Film Awards in March, where Covid will no longer exist because it will clearly have been canceled by then. It’s going to be so much fun!

Rebel Wilson will host the BAFTA Awards in March.
The “Pitch Perfect” actor stole the show at the ceremony in 2020 with a gag-filled speech while presenting the award for best director during which she managed to mention Prince Harry, Prince Andrew, coronavirus (then still but a conceptual threat), the lack of swag bags, “Cats” (in which she starred) and the lack of women nominated for best director.
Last year’s awards took place semi-virtually and were hosted by British presenters Edith Bowman and Dermot O’Leary.
“I look at the exceptional, daring talent nominated in this category and I don’t think I could do what they do,” Wilson said of the all-male nominees. “Honestly, I just don’t have the balls.”
Given everything that has happened since February 2020 – including Prince Andrew effectively being fired as a royal and of course the global pandemic – she will no doubt have plenty of material for the event,...

During a conversation with Edith Bowman at his BAFTA: Life in Pictures event supported by Tcl Mobile, Daniel Craig reflected on his career thus far as his time as James Bond comes to a close with the release of “No Time to Die” on Oct. 8.
During the interview, Craig discussed the long-standing belief that the 2004 crime drama “Layer Cake” was the catalyst for him to play James Bond, saying that he didn’t see it that way at the time while acknowledging that it did elevate his career.
“They always want to talk about ‘oh, you know ‘Layer Cake,’ it must have been your audition,’ and I was like, ‘believe me, it was the last thing on my mind that I was ever gonna play James Bond at that point,'” Craig said. “It definitely changed, shifted things in a way. It’s been a strange year, but cinema endures. The 2021 British Academy Film and Television Awards took place at the Royal Albert Hall on the 11th of April, 2021. In a first in BAFTA history, four women have been nominated in the Director category, including Nomadland director Chloe Zhao, Sarah Gavron for Rocks, and Shannon Murphy for Babyteeth. Other notable nominees include Promising Young Woman, The Trial of the Chicago 7, The Father, Saint Maud and Minari. It is a diverse line up, and a very unusual time but the red carpets are rolling out, even if they are in living rooms around the world.
Yesterday director Ang Lee was entered into the BAFTA Fellowship, and Noel Clarke was awarded the Outstanding British Contribution to cinema. This evening Edith Bowman and Dermot O’Leary hosted the awards and it was a delight to see Yun-Jung Youn’s incredible win for her role in Minari.

“Nomadland” has been named the best film of 2020 at the Ee British Academy Film Awards, which were handed out on Sunday by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). Director Chloé Zhao’s haunting road film also won awards for best director, best leading actress (Frances McDormand) and best cinematography, making it the ceremony’s dominant film and giving it yet another prize in a year in which it has already come out on top at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, Producers Guild Awards and Directors Guild Awards.
Coming one day after the film’s DGA victory on Saturday, the BAFTA win gave “Nomadland” a very good weekend leading into the Wednesday start of Oscar voting.

Donohue took a good idea to the extreme, hitching a ride on a Merchant Marine ship, then carrying the beer through the jungle as he tried to track down his three friends. Dressed in shorts and Hawaiian shirts, he was mistaken for CIA, which made his effort a bit easier.
Efron would take on the lead role of Donahue.

With true crime series hitting the popular heights of audience interest, John Lee Hancock’s latest psychological thriller, ‘The Little Things’ couldn’t have come at a better time to suck people further into this world of the serial killer and the detectives whose worlds are turned upside down in pursuit of justice.

Instead, he becomes embroiled in the search for a killer who is terrorizing the city. Leading the hunt, L.A.
