Jeff Margolis will never forget his first time directing the Academy Awards — we won’t let him.
This year marks the 35th anniversary of the 61st Academy Awards. You may not remember that “Rain Man” won Best Picture, Barry Levinson Best Director, Dustin Hoffman Best Actor, and Jodie Foster Best Actress for “The Accused.” But seared into our collective subconscious is the production number that opened the show — already, you’re cringing at the thought — featuring Snow White and Rob Lowe.
To this day, clickbait headlines (from The Guardian in 2019: “How Snow White and Some Coconuts Killed the 1989 Oscars”) are a testament to that debacle’s enduring legacy. Hollywood, nor the world, had never seen anything like it, which was kind of the whole point of the thing, according to Margolis, who spoke to IndieWire about his memories of what Collider just last year proclaimed, “the worst moment in Oscars history…...

That you should never meet your heroes, as they are bound to disappoint you, has become such conventional wisdom that it requires no author to affirm it. In a 2020 satirical New Yorker article, Alex Witt attributed the proverb to the faceless “they” (“They say, ‘Never meet your heroes,’ ” adding, “It’s good advice. I’ve met all of my idols, and I’ve been disappointed by every single one”). Some internet pages attribute the quote to the British comedian Alan Carr after meeting Paul Newman, though that appears more apocryphal than reliable.

Exclusive: The Masked Singer might just be getting the Coronation Street treatment.
ITV is understood to be preparing more Masked Singer mashups with its stalwart shows as The Masked Dancer’s budget is redirected, Deadline understands.
The Masked Dancer will definitely not air in 2023 and could be axed full stop, while ITV instead looks at making more Masked Singer mashups in the vein of last year’s The Masked Singer: I’m a Celebrity special, with several expected to be dotted throughout the year.
Sources from the UK entertainment sector said ITV will continue utilizing its tentpole brands for the mashups and one speculated long-running soap Coronation Street could be next.
Along with I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and Britain’s Got Talent, The Masked Singer has become one of ITV’s biggest entertainment juggernauts, with the final airing tomorrow. It regularly attracts more than 5M viewers.

Alan Carr has landed his first primetime quiz show for the BBC, a picture format in which contestants correctly identify images.
The RuPaul’s Drag Race UK judge is hosting Picture Slam from Ben Shephard and Ed De Burgh’s Triple Brew Media and Omg Scotland.
Teams will be presented with a board full of images that they need to correctly identify against the clock. If they clear a full board with correct answers for a ‘Picture Slam’ they’ll receive a cash bonus. Only the team who makes it to the final will take home any of their banked cash and, if they can find all the required pictures, they’ll take home the jackpot of up to £10,000.
Filming begins at the new Pacific Quay Studios in Glasgow later this year.
Carr has never hosted a BBC Saturday quiz before and the news will throw doubts over the future...

Good Morning Britain’s Robert Rinder was spotted at a TV premiere in London last night just hours after having treatment for a prolapsed disc.
After hosting the ITV morning programme on Monday (13 February) alongside Ranvir Singh, the presenter had shared photos of himself in hospital.
The Judge Rinder star tweeted: “Started the day holding politicians to account on @Gmb and interviewing Lulu and Richie Sambora… Finished it having a prolapsed disc in my back repaired and healed.
“Life can change in a moment... Hold on to joy wherever you find it (thanks brilliant medical team).”
A prolapsed disc, more commonly known as a herniated disc, is a condition that occurs when the soft cushion of tissue between the spine pushes outward.
This often leads to a pinched nerve, which can cause severe pain, numbness or weakness in an arm or leg.
Not all conditions require intervention, but those that...

Alan Carr is set to replace David Walliams on the new series of Britain’s Got Talent, reports have claimed.
In November, Walliams apologised after he was recorded making sexually explicit comments about a Bgt contestant during the 2020 auditions process.
According to a transcript obtained by The Guardian, the Little Britain creator allegedly compared one female auditionee to “the slightly boring girl you meet in the pub that thinks you want to f*** them, but you don’t”.
He also reportedly called a pensioner a “c***” three times after he lightly poked fun at Walliams on stage.
Walliams apologised at the time, telling The Independent: “I would like to apologise to the people I made disrespectful comments about during breaks in filming for Britain’s Got Talent in 2020. These were private conversations and – like most conversations with friends – were never intended to be shared. Nevertheless, I am sorry.”

When Jimmy Fallon’s popular late-night segment-turned-spinoff “That’s My Jam” launches on the BBC on Saturday, British comedian Mo Gilligan will be at the helm, making his debut in a major primetime slot.
Gilligan and Fallon have a lot in common: Both have reinvigorated late-night TV on their respective sides of the pond. With catchy segments like “History of Rap” and “Lip Sync Battle,” Fallon brought a musical flavor to late night long before James Corden’s “Carpool Karaoke” ever pulled up. Meanwhile, Gilligan, host of Channel 4’s “The Lateish Show” and “The Big Narstie Show,” shepherded a new wave of British late-night programming.
“It’s not to say there weren’t ones before,” says Gilligan, citing Alan Carr and Graham Norton as earlier U.K. late-night stars. It was more saying, “Where do I fit in, being a young Black guy? I really wanted to bring my own identity.
