Following up on my previous article, “Watch 15 Great Horror Short Films,” which received a very positive response, I’ve researched and collected 13 more superb horror short films. As with the first article, I limited the choices to stand-alone live-action horror short films not produced for an anthology film and the selections were narrowed down by availability.
In further keeping with the criteria of the first article, animated horror short films and horror-comedy short films were excluded from consideration as both of these categories would make good subjects for their own individual articles. Sorry, Brutal Relax and Fist of Jesus fans.
It should also be noted that a number of highly regarded horror shorts readers might clamor to see in an article like this such as Ryan Haysom’s Yellow continue their long festival runs and have not been posted for online viewing and were therefore not considered for this piece.

The anthology horror film is back in the wake of the success of chapter-style horror films like The Theatre Bizarre (2011) and its announced follow-up, V/H/S (2012), the soon-to-be-released sequel V/H/S 2 (2013) and The ABC’s of Death (2012).
While this movement generates a good deal of conversation about the fondly remembered Amicus productions of the 1960’s and 1970’s like Dr. Terror’s House Of Horrors (Freddie Francis, 1965), Torture Garden (Freddie Francis, 1967), The House That Dripped Blood (Peter Duffell, 1971) and Asylum (Roy Ward Baker, 1972) among others, the comparison is not exactly accurate across the board.
While the segments of V/H/S are unified by shared visual style and a wraparound story, The Theatre Bizarre and The ABC’s of Death come off as collections of essentially unrelated horror short films loosely bound by a flimsy wraparound segment in the case of The Theatre Bizarre or a basic concept as...

I know many of you may be thinking enough already with the American remakes of foreign films. French horror thriller Them is set to be remade for American audiences. Variety reports that Spanish commercial director David Alcalde is set to take the helm.
The original film was written and directed by French helmers David Moreau and Xavier Palud in 2006. The story focuses on "a young couple who are terrorized in their secluded country home." StudioCanal and Nostromo Pictures are producing the remake. They recently brought us Rodrigo Cortes' Buried and are behind the upcoming thriller Red Lights, with Robert De Niro and Sigourney Weaver.
Alcade is a respected commercial director in both Spain and Mexico, having directed more than 200 commercials. He also directed the short film Happy Birthday to You, which won Screamfest in 2006 and was well received at the San Sebastian and Slamdance Film Festivals.

Fans of David Moreau and Xavier Pauld’s 2006 home invasion horror Them (Ils), will be pleased to hear that StudioCanal has gained the rights for a remake, now named Six. Back in 2008 Rogue Pictures expressed some interest in remaking the psychological slasher, but were unable to pull the project together. Now, three years later, StudioCanal have landed the rights and have bagged David Alcalde to helm. The newly signed Alcalde is a respected commercials director, with over 200 credited adverts. He's also made several shorts,...

The latest in a never-ending line of American horror remakes, Variety says that StudioCanal will bring a new version of the 2006 French thriller Them (or Ils) to the screen, which commercial director David Alcalde will be helming. The original film, written & directed by David Moreau and Xavier Palud, centered on “a young couple living in an isolated home who are terrorized by hooded assailants over the course of one terrifying night.” (Insert obvious joke about this already being remade as The Strangers here.) Adrian Guerra of Nostromo Pictures, who’s collaborated with Rodrigo Cortés on Buried and Red Lights, will be producing,
To make a judgement on how this could turn out, the two main things to look at here are a) the directing work of Alcalde, and b) reviews of the original movie. The former is actually somewhat tough to get a grasp on; though random ones picked from YouTube aren’t bad,...

It was announced back in 2008 that Rogue Pictures was to remake David Moreau, Xavier Palud's awesome French home invasion slasher Them (Ils) as Six. Nothing ever came of it and now StudioCanal has landed the rights tapping commercials helmer David Alcalde to direct. The original concerned a young married couple living in an isolated home who are terrorized by hooded assailants over the course of one terrifying night. One of the most respected commercials directors working out of both Spain and Mexico, Alcalde has over 200 spots to his credit. His short film "Happy Birthday to You" won Screamfest in 2006 and was well-received at the San Sebastian and Slamdance Film Festivals. Helmer was previously attached to direct Gold Circle Films' remake of the Spanish horror film Who Can Kill a Child?...

No, it's not the classic giant ant flick getting reworked (though we imagine someone will get around to that too one day). What we have here is the French film Them (or Ils for you purists out there) getting the American redux treatmen.
According to Variety, StudioCanal has tapped commercial helmer David Alcalde to direct Them, an English-language remake of the 2006 French horror film Ils.
The original flick concerned a young married couple living in an isolated home (that was as big as most hotels) who are terrorized by hooded assailants over the course of one terrifying night.
Adrian Guerra's Barcelona-based banner Nostromo Pictures is producing the remake. Guerra, who specializes in genre films, recently produced Rodrigo Cortes' Sundance hit Buried and the helmer's upcoming thriller Red Lights, which stars Robert De Niro and Sigourney Weaver.

It only took four years, but it looks like the Hollywood machine is moving forward with a remake to 2007's Them . Variety reports David Alcalde has been tapped to direct for StudioCanal. His background includes a few short films and a number of commercials. The original was helmed by David Moreau and Xavier Palud. Both went on to give us Lionsgate redo of The Eye . During interviews for that film, Moreau and Palud told Shock that a Them was being discussed. Part home invasion film and part survival horror, Them concerned a couple who were preyed upon by unknown attackers wearing hoodies. It was released here in the U.S. by Dark Sky Films.

Horror remakes are definitely the hot new trend in Hollywood and I had no idea just how many remakes were being planned until I sat down and drew up a list of as many as I could find. I stopped at 7 pages and needless to say it seems that just about every movie you can imagine is getting a remake-prequel or reboot into 3D.
Here is a pretty complete list of upcoming horror remakes as of today in alphabetical order. Note: There are a few on this list that are only in the early phases of discussion and in some cases I included franchise reboots as well.
13 Tzameti: Starting the list off 13 Tzameti is more thriller then horror but still worthy of making the list. The film which started filming in New York awhile back will star Mickey Rourke and Jason Statham. The original film is a tale of Russian roulette with gruesome outcomes.

Marcel Langenegger has signed a deal to develop the horror film "Mile Zero" for Phoenix Pictures. Milla Jovovich is in talks to star.
Benderspink is producing the film, derived from an original screenplay by Holly Brix that has been set up at Phoenix since 2007. In Brix's spooky genre effort, a young woman takes a job on an Alaskan oil rig so she can prove her father's innocence in a series of murders.
Phoenix execs Mike Medavoy, Arnold Messer and Brad Fischer and "Zodiac" scribe James Vanderbilt are producing.
Jonathan Liebesman, Erik Van Looy and David Alcalde previously were involved with the film as potential helmers.
Phoenix produced "License to Wed" and "Zodiac." It has the Weinstein Co. drama "Shanghai" and the Martin Scorsese-directed Paramount thriller "Shutter Island" set to release in the fall.
Langenegger, repped by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners, directed the Ewan McGregor-Hugh Jackman thriller "Deception.

Yesterday we broke the news that David Alcalde would be directing an untitled remake to the '70s film, WHO CAN KILL A CHILD? This morning, B-D reader 'Mario' sent us an e-mail from Spain where he reveals that Filmax is producing the film with Gold Circle under the title IN THE PLAYGROUND, with Diego Luna (Vampires: Los Muertos) attached to star. In addition to a longer synopsis, you'll also find a pre-production poster for the film, which is used to sell the film at various film markets. Watch for more on this project soon. An English couple and a photographer head off for their holidays to La Isla Verde, a remote Mexican island, in the hope that Paul can finish the children's book that he's writing.

Sometimes it is just a better idea to stay on the mainland. If you're new to a certain area, don't go gallivanting off with your spouse to some mysterious island or cornfield where adults are strangely absent. It never bodes well.
Bloody Disgusting is reporting that David Alcalde, director of the short "Happy Birthday to You", will be at the helm of the remake of Narciso Ibáñez Serrador's disturbing Who Can Kill a Child? (review). This info also appears on IMDB with Alcalde getting screenplay credit with David Muñoz. The title, which could change, is listed as In the Playground. It isn't really as snappy, eh?
The original film was based off a novel by Juan José Plans, but it changed around a few things and omitted the cause of the children's madness all together. Does this mean Mr. Alcalde and crew may try to make a more faithful adaptation?...
