Stephen Amell’s place in the world of superheroes and monsters was established the first time he uttered the famous words: My name is Oliver Queen. Soon after, he became to DC Television what Robert Downey Jr. was to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As the godfather of DC TV, Amell was never so impactful as during his role as Green Arrow in the show that effectively launched the Arrowverse.

“Will & Grace” broke new ground on television for its depiction of LGBTQ+ characters, and involved the exploits of a group of four friends: Eric McCormack’s Will, Debra Messing’s Grace, Sean Hayes’ Jack and Megan Mullally’s Karen.
However, fans of the show might be surprised to learn that when the pilot was shot, there was a fifth pal thrown in the mix.
McCormack made that revelation during the inaugural episode of “Just Jack & Will”, the new podcast he co-hosts with Hayes (as reported by Deadline).

Will & Grace almost had a fifth wheel.
The first episode of the new podcast Just Jack & Will saw the show’s Eric McCormack and Sean Hayes reveal that the pilot featured them, Debra Messing, Megan Mullally, and – wait for it — Cress Williams.
“There were five characters as regulars,” McCormack recalled. “And the fifth was my partner at my small law firm.” Describing the character as a “straight guy” who was “probably written as Jewish” initially, McCormack claimed that Will’s friendship with Williams’s character was meant to be “just as important” as Messing’s Grace and Hayes’s Jack.
That lasted a beat.
Director James Burrows told Will & Grace creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick that five people was too many. “I felt so terrible,” McCormack said. “It was nothing he did or didn’t do… It just didn’t fit what the show is supposed to be.

Texas offers vast, open spaces and is beefing up its industry infrastructure to attract production not only across the state but in several pockets that have become hubs for all types of media production. From the central regions in and around Austin and Waco to the western panhandle near Amarillo, the Lone Star State is positioning itself for a production boom, aided by the Texas Moving Image Industry Incentive program, recently passed by the state legislature.
“We were able to receive such great funding and have such support from the legislators across the board on both sides of the aisle, from rural areas to the cities,” says Mindy Raymond, communications director for the Texas Media Production Alliance, noting the leap in funding from the previous legislative session ($45 million) to this one ($200 million).

New York based actor, producer, filmmaker and former Capetonian – Stelio Savante – has joined thousands of South Africans in celebrating the South African Supreme Court’s ruling on citizenship. The court summary declared that it was constitutionally invalid for South Africans to lose their citizenship when acquiring those from other nations. The ruling comes after the Democratic Alliance (Da) appealed a high court order that originally dismissed the party’s application that the legislation was inconsistent with the South African constitution. However this new ruling reinstated Sa citizenship for all those who lost it.

Savante – who has 135 international credits to his name – described the elation that he and other South Africans were experiencing – “I gratefully wake to celebrate with the tens of thousands of fellow South Africans who’d unnecessarily and inadvertently been deprived of their citizenship courtesy of a flawed and contradictory law that violated international human rights.

When The Flash arrived on the CW, it was pitched as the anti-Arrow, a feel-good series about the joy of being a superhero. After all, the title character (Grant Gustin) was wearing a crimson and yellow suit; hard to be moody in that.
As with all CW superhero series, it was quickly over-populated with too many powered supporting players, frequently taking the focus off the hero. It also grew too reliant on speedsters, the Speed Force, and time travel, so a sameness was infused throughout each successive season. There was every reason to believe this was to be the final season, so it was plotted as such. They could have done better. Much better.

Anne Heche, the award-winning star of “Six Days Seven Nights” and “Walking and Talking,” died Aug. 14 at the age of 53 after being involved in a car crash in Los Angeles. Her life and career were often overshadowed by tabloid coverage of her three-year relationship with Ellen DeGeneres, a union that helped usher in a new era of gay representation in media, but one that came at the expense of Heche’s privacy.
Heche never recaptured the level of stardom she had achieved in the late 1990s, but she worked at a high level on television, film and Broadway. One of her final completed features, “What Remains,” a murder mystery that co-stars Kellan Lutz and Cress Williams, wrapped in late 2021. Its director, Nathan Scoggins, shares an emotional tribute to Heche in which he praises her talent, kindness and resilience.
Anne Heche gave me her very best, and I’m forever grateful.

NBC has ordered the drama “Found” to series, Variety has learned. In addition, the network is passing on its pilots “Blank Slate” and “Unbroken.”
“Found” hails from writer and executive producer Nkechi Okoro Carroll with Shanola Hampton set for the lead role. The show is built around the fact that, in any given year, more than 600,000 people are reported missing in the U.S. More than half that number are people of color that the country seems to forget about. Public relations specialist Gabi Mosley (Hampton) — who was once herself one of those forgotten ones — and her crisis management team now make sure there is always someone looking out for the forgotten missing people. But unbeknownst to anyone, this everyday hero is hiding a chilling secret of her own.
The show also stars Brett Dalton, Gabrielle Walsh, Arlen Escarpeta, Karan Oberoi, with Kelli Williams, and Mark-Paul Gosselaar.

The Flash is bringing back another familiar face.
Robbie Amell, who last appeared on The Flash Season 3, is returning for a two-episode arc.
Entertainment Weekly broke the news, but there's no telling whether he will be playing Ronnie again or if he will be on board as a new character.
If you watch The Flash online, you know Ronnie died after saving the city from a giant wormhole at the end of The Flash Season 1.
Amell played the Speed Force during The Flash Season 3, and has not been seen or heard from since.
Ronnie was an immediate fan-favorite on the series, with his character in a relationship with Caitlin.
Reuniting the pair would be fun for fans, but nothing is ever that simple in the Arrowverse.
News of Amell's return comes around six weeks after it was revealed the original star Rick Cosnett would be returning for an episode.

The Flash is back and he’s only got five weeks to save the world. For the launch of his eighth season, our boy Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) is gathering a group of Arrowverse alums and all-stars for “Armageddon,” a five-episode battle against DC Comics’ villainous psychic alien Despero (Tony Curran). Showrunner Eric Wallace recently told us that he wouldn’t reveal “exactly why he’s there, but he’s got an agenda that sets the whole thing off,” leading to a lineup of guest heroes that includes Sentinel (Chyler Leigh) of Supergirl; Black Lightning (Cress Williams); Mia Smoak, aka, the new Green Arrow (Katherine McNamara) of Arrow; The Flash‘s Reverse Flash (Tom Cavanagh); Batwoman (Javicia Leslie); The Atom (Brandon Routh) and Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough) from DC’s Legends of Tomorrow; and Ryan Choi (Osric Chau), who last appeared in the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover. But this is not your usual crossover,...

We miss Arrowverse crossovers and big team-ups. Of course, we understand why that wasn’t in the cards for the most recent seasons of our favorite DC TV shows. The pandemic made the logistics of filming TV shows at all a challenge, let alone ones with the kind of scale we’ve come to expect from the CW’s lineup of DC Arrowverse shows.
Not only that, their most recent crossover, Crisis on Infinite Earths was literally So big that topping it in any capacity was going to be almost impossible. It’s one of the most recognizable and beloved stories in all of DC Comics history, and the TV version managed to encompass much of the scope of DC TV and movies. It was a massive storytelling accomplishment, and the various Arrowverse showrunners had already said that their next crossovers would be smaller in scale, even before Covid hit.

“Supergirl” may be ending this season, but that doesn’t mean we’re losing all the Super Friends right away. Chyler Leigh is set to return as Alex Danvers this November as part of the “Armageddon” crossover event on “The Flash,” and she’s thrilled to have more time to be Sentinel.
We don’t know much about the plot of the special itself, beyond the fact that Team Flash is facing “a powerful alien threat arrives on Earth under mysterious circumstances.” That alien threat is apparently powerful enough to wipe out humanity, causing Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Iris West-Allen (Candice Patton) to call in some reinforcements.
“What I will say is I am very, very, very grateful to be part of it. I was asked if I was interested, and if I wanted to, you know, take part and I was like, ‘Uhhh, hell yeah,'” Leigh told TheWrap.

"I decided to do what I do." What a terrible line. Saban Films / Paramount have released an official trailer for a very generic action thriller titled Crime Story, which is getting a theatrical + VOD release this August for anyone who might want to watch this. The pitch: an old man suffering from cancer seeks revenge on the thieves who have destroyed his life. Academy Award-winner Richard Dreyfuss stars as an infamous ex-mob boss who "must finally face the consequences of his dark past" when his family also gets caught up in his vengeance plot. The full cast includes Mira Sorvino, Cress Williams, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Derek Russo, Haviland Stillwell, and Andrea Frankle. Despite starring two Oscar winners, this is straight-to-the-bargain-bin, derivative "content" that everyone will just forget as soon as they finish watching. Oh well. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Adam Lipsius' Crime Story, direct from Paramount's YouTube:...

Spoiler Alert: The following story contains details from tonight’s series finale of The CW’s Black Lightning.
On Monday, Black Lightning came to the end of its four-season run on the CW, signing off with a passing of the torch.
When series finale “The Book of Resurrection: Chapter Two: Closure” opens, it looks like our hero Black Lightning (Cress Williams)—aka Jefferson Pierce—might soon be shuffling off this mortal coil. Tobias Whale (Marvin “Krondon” Jones III) has the superhero right where he wants him—namely, in a coffin buried underground.
Fear not, though. In the end, Black Lightning is able to escape by harnessing his powers in a way he’s never been able to before. Tobias, meanwhile, ends up dead, after he’s thrown out his office window, impaled and electrocuted by Black Lightning.
With his epic battle for the future of Freeland over, Pierce finds himself in a festive mood,...

Don Johnson‘s long-gestating Nash Bridges revival is finally coming to fruition, with production set to begin in May in San Francisco.
As previously reported, the project — which was initially set up at USA Network — will air as two-hour movie, but producers are hopeful it’ll serve as a backdoor pilot for a full series relaunch. A rep for NBC Universal declined to comment on Nash 2.0, including whether it is still bound for USA Network (versus being poached by NBCU’s reboot/revival-hungry streamer Peacock).

This Black Lightning review contains spoilers.
Black Lightning Season 4, Episode 4
Black Lightning has been dealing in trauma for the entirety of its run and that has not changed in this, the final season. And while that can be exhausting, writers have used it to a mostly positive effect, driving the emotional core of the show. Jefferson has cocooned himself in his grief and he expels those feelings in fits of violent rage that have left more than one—admittedly deserving— person severely injured. Fighting in Lala’s illegal cage matches may have given Jeff an outlet, but he still carries his hurt with him. When Lynn confronts him about the fighting, which was discovered by Jennifer and Tc, he lets loose a verbal grenade that she returns in kind. Jefferson and Lynn are in different types of recovery, and introspection could only take them so far without also confronting their unresolved anger toward each other.
