‘Love Island’ Heads To Israel
Israel has become the latest destination to embrace Love Island, with ITV Studios-backed Armoza Formats set to produce a local version for new Keshet streamer Free TV. Filming will take place in May for a summer air date, as Israel becomes the 26th territory to commission a version following the announcement of Malta and Albania last week. Avi Armoza’s ITV Studios-backed The Four creator Armoza Formats is producing the local version. The company, which was acquired by ITV Studios in 2019, pivoted earlier this year to become ITV Studios’ production arm in Israel and has already produced two local versions of Come Dine with Me for Kan 11 along with the likes of The 1 Club and The Chase. The show will air on Free TV, Keshet and Rge’s streamer that is set to launch early next year. “Since establishing Armoza Productions and producing hits...

Danish editor Molly Malene Stensgaard, best known for her decades-long collaboration with Lars von Trier, won’t be returning for the third season of his cult series “The Kingdom,” she confirmed at Karlovy Vary Intl. Film Festival, where she also joined the Crystal Globe jury.
“It will be strange,” she admitted. Ghita Norby, Soren Pilmark and Peter Mygind will reprise their original roles.
“I did [‘The Kingdom’] less than a year after graduating from film school, where I learnt all sorts of rules. The first thing I heard from Lars was: ‘Forget them.’ It felt odd to stop this work relationship after almost 25 years. But it also felt right.”
After “The Kingdom,” which premiered in 1994 – with Jacob Thuesen and Pernille Bech Christensen also on editing duties – they went on to work on, among other films, “The Idiots,” “Dancer in the Dark” and “Melancholia,” with 2018 “The House That Jack Built” marking their final collaboration,...

The House That Jack Built is the latest, and reportedly final, cinematic effort from the meretricious and petulant director Lars von Trier. A visionary master of bold and repellent art, with a twisted irony of benevolent nature formulated in the most offensive and auspicious manner possible, Von Trier excels in the morally artificial and frugal seduction. His most recent effort is a masterstroke of meta and self-referential testy ravenous appalling nature, possibly so significant in fact, in a darkly evocative expose of mankind, it may just be his magnum opus.
Matt Dillon stars in the titular role of Jack. A haunting portrayal of monstrous bigotry and murderous gluttony. Dillon, an often overlooked actor with tremendous ability and filmography to prove it, provokes a grand sense of audacious...

Dubai Film Market is introducing a selection of Indian projects for the first time this year through a partnership with Europe’s Pjlf Three Rivers Residency.
The five projects are being scripted by hot new talents such as Kanu Behl, whose debut feature Titli premiered at Cannes’ Un Certain Regard in 2014, and Raj Rishi More, whose project is being produced by The Lunchbox director Ritesh Batra.
The Three Rivers residency provides writer-directors with a month-long distraction-free space to work on their scripts in the Italian countryside, with the help of an expert mentor, before presenting their projects at Diff. Although focusing on Indian projects in its first year, the organisers hope to open the programme to international writer-directors, including those from the Arab world, from next year.
“We feel writers sometimes need a much more concentrated period to hone their ideas and get away from all the distractions of a day job and daily life,” said producer...

Controversial director makes rare appearance and speeches at Danish film awards.
Lars von Trier has once more broken his “vow of silence” to accept an armful of prizes at Denmark’s Robert awards.

Veteran Dutch producer Stienette Bosklopper, owner and MD of Circe Film, is turning screenwriter and has written two projects already in advanced development.
Bosklopper, whose credits include Wolfsbergen and Brownian Movement, will be at this week’s Iffr CineMart in Rotterdam in a dual capacity - as screenwriter and producer of Nanouk Leopold’s new feature, Cobain.
The €1.6m film, which has already received backing from the Netherlands Film Fund, is being coproduced with Waterland Film.
“It’s part of a personal development you have at a certain stage in your career,” the producer says of her foray into screenwriting.
“I had been working with a lot of writers and directors. Somehow, there was an urge to contribute on a different level. To my own amazement, it is going very well. It comes quite naturally and I have the feeling that I will be continuing doing this.”

Here's a pretty disturbing proposition for you to mentally chop down into easily digestible chunks - Lars Von Trier's Nymphomaniac makes its way into cinemas this week. The controversial Danish director's new ensemble movie revolves around the reminiscence of a sex addict named Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg) who's found in the street by an academic (Stellan Skarsgård). Joe proceeds to tell him her personal story and the film plays out in flashbacks across different time periods, fleshed out by an array of well-known actors who engage themselves in graphic carnal activity.
In truth, however, none of the stars - among them Shia Labeouf, Jamie Bell, Uma Thurman and Willem Dafoe - have sex in this frank, visceral feature, even though it may appear that they are.

Lars von Trier is ‘happy’ with the two versions of the film; read Screen’s exclusive interview with Zentropa producer Louise Vesth to find out the details.
Zentropa producer Louise Vesth has confirmed to Screen International the launch plans for the two versions of Lars von Trier’s much-anticipated Nymphomaniac.
The shorter four-hour version will launch in Denmark on Christmas Day followed by release in other territories in the first quarter of 2014.
Lars von Trier’s longer, more sexually explicit, approximately 5.5-hour cut will be launched several months later. In addition to the longer running time, that version also has more close-ups of genitals.
“It was written recently that this was done against his will, and that’s definitely not the case,” Vesth explained to Screen on a call from Copenhagen.
“Lars told me he was happy that we could do it this way, for him it was very important that we have a long version for artistic...

"Melancholia" is the film to beat at this year's European Film Awards, which announced its nominated films Saturday at the Seville European Film Festival. The Lars von Trier film leads the pack with eight nominations including best film, best director, two best actress nods for Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg and best screenwriter. Following "Melancholia" -- all with half the number of noms it earned -- are Tom Hooper's "The King's Speech," Michel Hazanavicius' "The Artist," Aki Kaurismaki's "Le Havre," Susanne Bier's "In a Better World" and Jean-Pierre & Luc Dardenne's "The Kid with a Bike." "The King's Speech" and "In a Better World" won best picture and best foreign film, respectively, at the Academy Awards this year.
