An AT&T retail store.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has started issuing partial refunds to former customers of AT&T who were covered by a settlement over the company’s data throttling practices several years ago.
The action comes five years after AT&T agreed to settle an FTC investigation over improper data throttling practices and misleading consumer advertising regarding some of its wireless plans.
AT&T agreed to issue $60 million in refunds and bill credits to customers, and doled out $52 million to customers who still had wireless service through the company as of 2020. But around 267,000 former customers who submitted valid claims still haven’t been paid, a situation that the FTC is now remedying.
Around 213,000 former AT&T customers will be paid via checks, while another 54,800 will be issued a refund via PayPal, the FTC said this week. Collectively, former AT&T customers with valid claims will receive $6.3 million in refunds,...

Even long-lapsed "Doctor Who" fans perked up their ears at the news that Russell T Davies, the showrunner who brought the series back with roaring success in 2005 and helmed it throughout the Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant eras, is returning for season 14. He'll be kicking things off with three 60th anniversary specials, featuring Tennant as (somewhat confusingly) the Fourteenth Doctor and Catherine Tate as former companion Donna Noble, before embarking on a new series of adventures with the Fifteenth Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa.
In a new interview with GQ magazine, Davies summarized his reasons for leaving "Doctor Who" in 2010 as "other things to write." Specifically, he wanted to focus on his comedy-drama series "Cucumber," which he'd been working on intermittently during his tenure as showrunner. After handing the reins over to Steven Moffatt, Davies moved to America, where he finished writing "Cucumber" and even received an offer from George Lucas...

Oh, Amy. After warning Selina against Andrew’s toxic charms, Buddy Calhoun’s campaign manager and girlfriend became the “Lobotomy Barbie” she cautioned her old boss about, standing by her man as he apologized for making an ass of himself — and a joke of their sex life in the process. Both women got screwed by their chosen men, and not in a way they enjoy.
But the fuck-over-y (ovary?) didn’t end there. Selina was spurned by her fellow ex-presidents (all male) at the opening of President Hughes’ library. She, in turn, dismissed the idea of a female architect, telling Gary, “We’re not redoing a kitchen here,” while Marjorie and Catherine lamented the fact they need a man to have a baby. And of course, Selina ended up getting doubly boned by Andrew, first upon learning of his betrayal and then by the woman he cheated with,...

Following the recent news from Star Trek Beyond, we look at Star Trek's track record when it comes to queer issues and characters
Many Star Trek fans are celebrating following the news that, in the upcoming movie Star Trek Beyond, Sulu is confirmed as being in a long-term relationship with another man. This kind of queer representation has been a long time coming for the Star Trek franchise.
The Original Series wasn’t afraid to tackle social issues, with a racially diverse cast and episodes dealing – literally or allegorically – with women’s rights, racial divisions and the futility of war, but the later installments in the franchise have shied away from taking the obvious next step of including queer characters.
In 1991, Gene Roddenberry made a statement on his plans to include gay characters in Star Trek: The Next Generation, but following his death shortly afterwards,...

Byker! Byker! Byker! Byker Grove! A-ha, A-ha, A-ha!
Geordie youth club drama Byker Grove was one of the greatest children's TV shows of the '80s and '90s, and next month it will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a special party in Newcastle.
But what ever happened to the stars of the show? We look back at some of the programme's breakout stars and forgotten favourites.
1. Declan Donnelly played Duncan
In the show's first series, Dec was going solo as 'Duncan' and it wasn't until he was united with Ant's 'Pj' that he truly became a central figure in the series. While they are remembered as being best buddies on the show, Duncan did end up nabbing Pj's girlfriend Debbie. After Pj went blind in a paintball accident. They will face Nicola Bryant (Peri) playing with Andrew Hayden-Smith (Jake Simmons) and Louise Jameson (Leela) alongside Frazer Hines (Jamie McCrimmon in the 1960s).
Alexander Armstrong will host, with co-presenter Richard Osman receiving some robotic assistance in the form of the Doctor's loyal robot dog K9.
Eight new Doctor Who episodes will air on Saturday nights from March 30, with a number of additional projects also being planned to celebrate the show's 50th anniversary later in 2013.

Between trying to save the world and being hunted by the CIA, you might think Alexa Havins and Arlene Tur would not have much free time.
But the two Us stars of Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood: Miracle Day have confirmed that they'll both be meeting fans and signing autographs as special guests at next month's McM Expo London Comic Con.
Alexa Havins (pictured top) plays CIA analyst Esther Drummond, who finds herself working alongside fellow agent Rex Matheson and the Torchwood Institute's last surviving members, Captain Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper.
Arlene Tur (pictured right) plays tough-talking surgeon Dr Vera Juarez, who treats Rex Matheson and investigates what is happening to patients affected by the Miracle, a phenomenon in which no one on Earth is able to die.

Sir Ian McKellen, Samantha Fox and Paul O’Grady are three of the stars who have taken part in a new advertising campaign for a British charity.
The famous faces feature in a new PSA for the Albert Kennedy Trust, an organization that provides a range of services for young lesbian, gay, bi and transexual people in the UK. Set to Radiohead’s classic song, Creep, the video also features Sue Perkins, Hollyoaks star Kieron Richardson and actor Andrew Hayden-Smith.
“We’ve used some well-known personalities in these tough situations to help let young Lgbt people know where they can turn for support,” said Robert Harwood-Matthews, president of Tbwa UK. “Tbwa London is hugely proud to be a part of a such a groundbreaking campaign that hopes to increase awareness and shift behaviour towards a cause that too often goes unrecognised.”

I’ve decided to push all the Tracy Morgan news into a special edition section of Weekend Meme on page two. Feel free to catch up there.
As I write this, we’re less than 24 hours from the start of the Tony Awards, and our man Neil Patrick Harris has been making the interview circuit. He’s promising the “edgiest Tony’s yet” but much of that seems to depend on whether the 14-time nominated The Book of Mormon can get a song past the censors. As for Nph, he’s not going to make himself the center of the show, and you won’t see him in Spider-Man spandex. Spoilsport. Obviously, I’ll be tweet-snarking the whole thing live.

Which came first? The chicken or the egg? The NuWho episode or the Classic Doctor Who DVD release? There's a poser for dopey Professor Kerensky – maybe he should have devoted his time to organising a Doctor Who DVD schedule instead of building his infernal cellular accelerator contraption. At least, he wouldn't have ended up ageing to a skeleton.
So cast your minds back to 2006, when it was announced that Inferno and The Invasion would be out on brand spanking new shiny disc. Coincidence? Well, consider that the two-part Rise Of The Cybermen/The Age Of Steel (or Rise Of Steel as I like to call it) included the much-heralded return of the tinpot meanies, a reference to International Electromatics, a crazed entrepreneur with delusions of grandeur, and a doomy parallel universe. Which meant that the two DVDs would be popular choices for new generations of fans who had lapped up...

Happy 64th Birthday to Sir Elton John! Okay, name your top five Elton songs! What's your favorite? "That's What Friends Are For," "Candle in the Wind," "Don't Go Breaking My Heart?" I'll get the ball rolling by naming my top five 80's Elton singles: 5. "Empty Garden;" 4. "I'm Still Standing;" 3. "Little Jeannie;" 2. "Flames of Paradise," (neglected duet with the incomparable Jennifer Rush); 1. "Blue Eyes." DVD Watch! This week sees the release of the underperforming James L. Brooks comedy How Do You Know, featuring Reese Witherspoon and Paul Rudd. Also out is the much maligned The Tourist with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. And the certain-to-be...
