At just 17, McKenna Grace already has a number of TV and movie hits on her hands. From starring in the charming drama-comedy Gifted in 2017 to her career defining role as a child bride in the popular dystopian series The Handmaid’s Tale, Grace has accumulated praise from all corners of the industry.
Recently, McKenna returned for a second helping in the latest instalment of the rebooted Ghostbusters franchise as Phoebe. In a conversation with HeyUGuys earlier this week, the young actor talked to us about her reaction to the insane Ghostbusters fandom and her time on the film’s press tour alongside.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, the famous Hollywood action star, has a net worth of $400 million. However, some risky decisions may have affected his wealth.
For instance, take the movie Kindergarten Cop. Even though the film was a huge success, according to the former-bodybuilder, it could have earned $25 million more.
Kindergarten Cop (1990)
Kindergarten Cop follows the story of John Kimble, a tough cop played by Schwarzenegger. In the movie, Kimble goes undercover as a kindergarten teacher to track down the ex-wife and son of a dangerous drug lord, who are in hiding.
Suggested“We’ll just cut her out”: James Cameron Sent a Threat Through Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Agent to Get Sigourney Weaver Back For Aliens’ Sequel
Its legacy is a complex one. While it did well financially, it also stirred up discussions about what’s appropriate for children in movies. While some people enjoyed its humor, others were concerned about the level of violence it portrayed.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito appeared together in 1988’s buddy comedy movie Twins, produced and directed by Ivan Reitman. The story follows two fraternal twin brothers, streetwise Vincent and intelligent but naïve Julius, who were separated at birth.
The movie, upon its release, was a commercial success, and the audience lauded the performances of the actors. Despite being a commercial success, the movie received mixed reviews from critics. Arnold Schwarzenegger, in an interview, recalls the prank he played on Danny DeVito while they were filming Twins.

Warning: The following contains mild spoilers for the Ghostbusters franchise.
Yes, Ghostbusters is a horror movie – gateway horror to be exact. Setting aside the fact that the title literally contains the word “ghost,” a foundational element of the scariest genre, the franchise follows a group of paranormal researchers who battle entities attacking from beyond the grave. After countless rewatches, the classic films and newer sequels may not scare us much anymore, but how many times have we as genre fans asserted that a film does not have to be “scary” to be considered horror?
Genre classification is nebulous and any film that centers on ghosts has a place in the sprawling house of horror. Yes, it’s true that most viewers over the age of thirteen will find more to laugh about than scream while watching a Ghostbusters film, but each entry contains a handful of terrifying moments. It was a bit of a good news, bad news situation for Sony Pictures over the weekend. The good news is that "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire," the latest entry in the long-running comedy/horror franchise, topped the box office with a $45 million haul. That was at the high end of expectations, which was certainly positive, and theaters could use the help right now. At the same time, the movie carries a $100 million budget — which was quite a bit higher than 2021's "Ghostbusters: Afterlife." And yet, at the end of the day, both movies opened to just about the same number domestically. This provides proof that this franchise has a pretty well-defined ceiling commercially, which likely limits what can be done going forward.
What's interesting is that the last three movies in the series all opened in an eerily similar range. 2016's female-led "Ghostbusters: Answer the Call" took in $46 million on its...

It's official: "Ghostbusters" is now a $1 billion franchise. Just shy of 40 years after the classic horror/comedy originally arrived in theaters back in 1984, the films have hit a major milestone at the box office thanks to the latest entry, "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire." Thanks to the new film's opening weekend haul, the series has now ascended the ranks to become one of the relatively few franchises in cinema history that can claim to have made ten figures or more in ticket sales.
Director Gil Kenan's "Frozen Empire" opened to $45 million over the weekend domestically, putting it on top of the charts in its debut. The Sony Pictures release also pulled in $16 million internationally, giving the film a $61 million start to its theatrical run. Looking at the bigger picture, that was enough to push the franchise past the $1 billion mark. The films have collectively grossed $1.005 billion through the years across four decades and five films.

For a moment, allow your mind to drift back to 1984. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis, the three actors who played the iconic Ghostbusters, defended the city against grotesque creatures.
Unbelievably, the legendary film, which turns 40 this year, has spawned innumerable reboots and sequels, including the recently released Gil Kenan’s Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. If you share our nostalgia for the original Ghostbusters flick, let us take a trip down memory lane and learn some fascinating facts about Ivan Reitman’s 1984 movie.
Even now, audiences are intrigued by this timeless masterpiece, distributed by Columbia Pictures. What many fans might not know, though, is that Ghostbusters’ original title and abandoned futuristic plot could have severely damaged this beloved classic.

Obviously, blasting March with franchise sequels was the way to turn things around after a number of slower months at the box office. Read on for the weekend box office report.
The big new release for the weekend was Sony’s sequel, “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” which opened in 4,345 theaters, with much of the returning cast from 2021’s “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” including Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, and McKenna Grace, as well as many of the original Ghostbusters from Ivan Reitman‘s ’80s comedies. It also introduced new characters played by comics Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, and James Acaster.
By Thursday, the movie had only racked up 45% on Rotten Tomatoes, showing less critical support than “Afterlife,” but it still was able to open with $16 million on Friday, including $4.7 million in Thursday previews. Sony has estimated an opening weekend of $45.2 million for the action-comedy, averaging just over $10,000 per location, just slightly ahead of “Afterlife’s” $44 million opening,...

“Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” ruled over the domestic box office and arrived on the higher end of expectations.
The latest installment in Sony’s supernatural comedy series has collected $45.2 million in its debut in 4,345 North American theaters. Earlier in the weekend, “Frozen Empire” looked like it would top out with $42 million but estimates were revised up after a bigger-than-expected Sunday. At the international box office, the film ignited to a tepid $16.4 million from 25 markets for a global start of $61 million.
Still, those domestic ticket sales are just barely ahead of its 2021 predecessor, “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” which earned $44 million to start while the box office was deep in pandemic recovery mode. It’s a sign that the 30-year-old franchise hasn’t expanded its constituency beyond the original (and aging) core fans of the business of busting ghosts.
Plus, “Frozen Empire” carries a bigger budget than the last one, costing $100 million to produce and many millions more to market.

Sony’s Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire had no trouble winning a relatively quiet weekend at the box office: Stronger-than-expected Saturday turnout rescued the movie from opening behind the franchise’s last installment.
Sunday estimates show Frozen Empire launching with $45.2 million in North America thanks to multi-generational turnout and families. In 2021, the pandemic-challenged Ghostbusters: Afterlife debuted to $44 million. The new movie will need to have decent legs, considering it cost more to make — $100 million, versus $75 million for Afterlife. And there’s still concern that the film hasn’t broadened out to any notable degree in terms of new fans.
Overseas, the Sony tentpole started off with $16.4 million from 25 markets — it has a staggered rollout for competitive reasons — for a global start of $61.6 million. In like-for-like markets, Sony says it is pacing 15 percent ahead of Afterlife. The U.K. leads with $5.3 million, followed quickly by Mexico with $5.2 million.

‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’ Propels Franchise Past $1B As Sequel Opens To $45M+ – Sunday Am Update
Sunday Am: No snowstorm or sour reviews stood in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire‘s path this weekend, as the Gil Kenan-directed, Jason Reitman-produced sequel minted a $45.2M opening after a nice spike on Saturday from families.
Yesterday came in at $16.8M, 5% ahead of Friday/previews’ $16M. If the numbers hold up, that’s the second-best start ever for a Ghostbusters’ movie after the 2016 female ensemble of Kirsten Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon.
The domestic opening of the fifth movie takes the entire Ghostbusters franchise, per Sony, past $1 billion. I understand studio reports had the franchise through four films at $985M, a result that’s higher than Box Office Mojo. Mojo’s numbers on overseas are off on the first 1984 film.
Foreign for Frozen Empire was $16.4M from 7,500+ screens in 25 markets, bringing the global start here to $61.6M on the $100M production.

In Hollywood, casting decisions can make or break a movie. Sometimes, the biggest roles almost end up in different hands, which changes the story. Take Ghostbusters, for example, the classic film with the guys chasing ghosts. Well, imagine if Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts were carrying those proton packs! Alongside them, crazy, right?

We all know the Ghostbusters crew, isn’t that so? However, they might have looked totally different. Back in ’84, Ivan Reitman dropped this flick about a ghost-catching scientist in New York City, and it blew up. Fans and critics couldn’t get enough of it. Then, in 1989, a sequel was released, but it did not quite hit the same high notes.
Attempts to make a third Ghostbusters film persevered for quite a while, yet hit a roadblock with Harold Ramis’ passing in 2014. Paul Feig’s 2016 reboot of the franchise featured an all-female team with nods to the originals.

The Ghostbusters franchise is a pop culture behemoth. It started back in 1984 with a hilarious film about ghost-catching scientists, however its success stemmed from more than just humor. People loved the quirky characters and the funny story.

The “Ghostbusters” franchise has had a tumultuous run in the 21st century. Paul Feig’s attempt to retool the series with an all-star cast of female comedians including Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones with 2016’s “Ghostbusters” was a fairly standard studio reboot, but online backlash about the gender-swapped casting launched a culture war fight that arguably exceeded the actual film in terms of influence.
The series was re-launched again when Jason Reitman directed 2019’s “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” but the “Up in the Air” director quickly found himself in hot water when his comments about planning to “hand the movie back to the fans” were interpreted by many as a sexist dig at the female-led reboot.

Recently, I had the chance to sit down with Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon, who are out promoting Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Both Rudd and Coon have been outspoken in their love of the original Ghostbusters, as well as the original cast, and I couldn’t help but put them both on the spot a little bit. Given that young audiences are discovering the original Ghostbusters thanks to these new movies, I wondered which classic comedy featuring some of the cast Rudd and Coon might suggest younger audiences check out next.

Ghostbusters Franchise Ranked On Rotten Tomatoes: From Paul Rudd’s Frozen Empire To Bill Murray’s Og Film; Find Out Which Film Has The Highest Rating. (Photo Credit – IMDb)
The Ghostbusters franchise is once again back with the sequel of the reboot that came out in 2021. The original film came out in the 80s and was not only commercially successful but critically praised. The latest film in the franchise, Frozen Empire, has yet to have a worldwide release; it premiered in New York City’s AMC theatres a few days back and came out across the USA on Friday.
The latest release stars Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, McKenna Grace, and others from 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife. The 2024 film reunites the old and the new cast. The Og characters returned for this recent film, including Bill Murray and Annie Potts. Gil Kenan directed it, which is currently the franchise’s lowest-rated film.

This weekend sees the release of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Some will say this is the fourth Ghostbusters film, but of course, we all know it’s actually the fifth, as you have to count Paul Feig’s reboot to a certain extent. While critics have been cool on Gil Kenan’s addition to the franchise, fans seem to really be enjoying the film, which gives the Og Ghostbusters enhanced roles. All this got me thinking: what are the best Ghostbusters films? So, I had to do it – here’s my Ghostbusters Movies Ranked list. I’m sure this will inspire a little debate, so let me know what you think of this list in the comments below – even if you hate it. Note that this list is from worst to best.
Ghostbusters (2016):
Let me be clear: I didn’t hate Paul Feig’s female-led reboot as much as a lot of people did.

You probably already know what will be number one on this list. The “Ghostbusters” franchise has gone through its ups and downs, reboots and legacyquels. But as the first film approaches its 40th anniversary this June, there’s little doubt in anybody’s mind that it remains the definitive ghost-catching movie of them all.
In the early ’80s, Dan Aykroyd — then just fresh off his stint as an original “Saturday Night Live” cast member — was inspired by his own belief in the supernatural to write a script about a group of eccentric academics who start a pest-control business where the “pests” they’re catching are malevolent spirits. Recruiting former “SNL” castmate Bill Murray to star, comedian Harold Ramis to help rewrite the screenplay, and “Meatballs” and “Stripes” filmmaker Ivan Reitman to direct. The summer of ’84 was golden. The Summer Olympics and the Olympics Arts Festival transformed host city Los Angeles into an athletic and artistic mecca. Bruce Springsteen was burning up arenas with his “Born in the USA” tour. Geraldine Ferraro made history when she was named Democratic presidential candidate Walter Mondale’s running mate making her the first woman to be part of a major party’s national ticket.
And the quirky horror comedy “Ghostbusters” was scaring up big bucks at the box office. Taking in in nearly $300 million, it was the No. 1 film of the year. The Ghostbusters: Afterlife (watch it Here) sequel Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (which, of course, also serves as a sequel to the original Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II) is now in theatres – and in the review of the film that was written by JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray (you can read it at This Link), Bumbray said that it feels like it was “aimed at building the franchise out more extensively.” While talking to The Hollywood Reporter, franchise co-creator Dan Aykroyd hinted that we could see the franchise expand with globe-trotting adventures.
Aykroyd said, “We like New York, but that’s not to say that we couldn’t make New York the base and travel off somewhere else. But… hey, there are ghosts around the world.“
While the first two films and Frozen Empire are set in New York, Afterlife took place in Oklahoma. It sounds like Aykroyd wouldn’t mind seeing the...

Let the ghost hunting begin.
Sony’s spring event pic Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire has started off its North American box office run with $4.7 million in Thursday previews before rolling out everywhere on Friday.
That compares to $4.5 million in previews for the last film, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which succeeded in restoring the luster to the classic franchise created by the late Ivan Reitman. His son, Jason Reitman, directed Afterlife, but this time turned over helming duties to series co-scribe Gil Kenan.
Sony expects Frozen Empire to top the weekend’s box office chart with an opening in the $43 million to $44 million range, while tracking services are suggesting $45 million or more. (Afterlife, which debuted amid the challenges posed by the pandemic era, debuted to $44 million domestically). Critics didn’t exactly embrace either film, with Frozen Empire presently sporting a not-so-fresh score of 44 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Positive audience reaction, however, may boost the movie’s box office potential.

This article major spoilers for "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire."
As has become "Ghostbusters" legend, the original script draft for the film that eventually became the 1984 classic was a massive tome written solely by creator and star Dan Aykroyd, before collaborators like eventual co-star and co-writer Harold Ramis and director Ivan Reitman came aboard. That draft, entitled "Ghost Smashers," was a phone-book sized script that had a wildly divergent tone and narrative from what ended up as "Ghostbusters." Really, the largest element to remain intact from that initial draft to the finished film was the notion of ghostbusting being a profession, with the rest of the particulars being changed and found along the way.
However, that didn't stop the filmmakers using Aykroyd's original script for inspiration, then and now. Back then, some other elements seen in the first script, like the Onionhead ghost (which became Slimer) and the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man, made...

Gil Kenan was able to share the 'Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire' story with the original movie's director Ivan Reitman before his death. The 47-year-old filmmaker has helmed the latest picture in the supernatural franchise and admits that the approval of the late director – who passed away aged 75 in 2022 – kept the crew going through the writing process.Gil told The Hollywood Reporter: "We pitched an almost complete version of this film's story outline to Ivan before his passing, and that was really meaningful."Obviously, we didn't know that he wouldn't be with us for the film, but his validation of the pitch and his joy at hearing it was something that kept us going through the writing."Ivan's son Jason Reitman – who had been behind the camera on the 2021 flick 'Ghostbusters: Afterlife' - decided not to direct 'Frozen Empire' and Kenan was "honoured" to be given the...

"Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" hits theaters this weekend (read our review here), and along with the returning casts of both the original "Ghostbusters" franchise and the new generation of specter catchers from "Ghostbusters: Afterlife," there's another ugly little spud making a comeback. That's right, Slimer is back on the scene, green and still kinda mean. Well, at least he's hungry, and if you interfere with his eating (even though he can't really consume the food), he gets super annoyed. Every time Slimer comes back, some of that ectoplasm comes with him, but this time, the visual effects department on "Frozen Empire" came up with some cool new movie magic that they've never achieved with this green ghoul before.
With a little help from Ivan Reitman, "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" perfected the recipe for the slime that is so often left behind by ghosts, so getting the ectoplasm residue right was the easy part.

The release of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is upon us, and although the late Ivan Reitman sadly won’t get to see the movie, he did give his blessing before he died in 2022.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire director Gil Kenan told THR that Jason Reitman and himself did get to pitch the story for the sequel to Ivan Reitman. “We pitched an almost complete version of this film’s story outline to Ivan before his passing, and that was really meaningful,” Kenan said. “Obviously, we didn’t know that he wouldn’t be with us for the film, but his validation of the pitch and his joy at hearing it was something that kept us going through the writing.“
Kenan added, “I’m obviously very grateful to Jason for entrusting me with his family’s franchise. But I’m also really grateful that I was able to have a front row seat...

To succeed, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire needed to be fun and capture the spirit of the original Ghostbusters. It was and it did – with caveats. Seeing the Og Ghostbusters team strapping on their proton packs was a hoot, but this latest installment in the franchise made some odd plot choices. It also sticks around half an hour too long.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, a direct sequel to Afterlife, finds the Spengler family – teens Phoebe and Trevor, plus mom Callie – and former teacher-turned-ghostbuster Gary Grooberson moving into the iconic NYC headquarters. The foursome’s kept hopping, responding to kooky undead creatures, including a sewer dragon. If there’s something strange in the neighborhood, they’re on the case. Why? When Gil Kenan co-wrote Ghostbusters: Afterlife with his creative partner Jason Reitman, they knew full well that they were penning a touching tribute to Ghostbusters co-creator Harold Ramis and his character of Egon Spengler. Upon the release of Afterlife in November 2021, they ramped up their efforts to crack the story that would eventually become its sequel, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, however, just a few months later, another Ghostbusters co-creator, Ivan Reitman, passed away, turning Frozen Empire into an homage to the beloved filmmaker.
As it turned out, Kenan and Jason Reitman had the chance to share their Frozen Empire story outline with Ivan before he passed on.

Forty years ago, four men put on uniforms, came up with a catchy logo — a startled specter in a red circle with a slash going through it, no big whoop — strapped on some proton packs and saved New York City from an evil deity holed up in a penthouse. They were brave, they were bold, they were smartasses and, we can’t stress this part enough, they weren’t ‘fraid of no ghosts. It’s not a Stay Puft Marshmellow Man-sized leap to say that Ivan Reitman’s original Ghostbusters changed Hollywood blockbusters.

Carrie Coon is pleased that her 'Ghostbusters' character is "grounded in reality".The 43-year-old actress returns as Callie Spengler in 'Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire' and praised the film's writers for making her alter ego a mother with flaws.Carrie told The Hollywood Reporter: "Callie feels like a very real mom who's maybe not always great at the job, and makes mistakes and has to make repairs."That, to me, feels really grounded in reality in a way that movie moms aren't always, especially when they're serving a function in a story like Callie kind of is in this second film."And so I just appreciate that (co-writers Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan) are always writing a family dynamic that feels like it could be very, very real, even though we're busting ghosts."The 'Gone Girl' actress has admiration for Jason after he handed the...

Why do these new Ghostbusters movies land so unremarkably? Not Paul Feig’s 2016 reboot, which was attacked by pissant trolls. My opening statement is reserved for Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Gil Kenan’s Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Kenan tackles the third sequel in recognized Ghostbusters continuity, which hardly gives audiences a reason to stay excited about any more franchise continuations. Plotting feels superficially engineered to sell the nostalgia thrills of seeing the original Ghostbusters suit up or so we can relive old scenes anew; a film built around team poses and one-liners that misremember how Ivan Reitman’s predecessors made bustin’ feel so good.
After the events of Afterlife, the Spenglers and Gary Grooberson (Paul Rudd) move into the iconic New York City firehouse where it all started. Callie Spengler (Carrie Coon) sees her romance with Gary flourish, while her kids Trevor (Finn Wolfhard) and Phoebe (Mckenna Grace) make spectral entrapment a family business.

Before Carrie Coon busted ghosts with a proton pack in the Ghostbusters franchise, she battled the ghostly figures of the Guilty Remnant with a garden hose on The Leftovers. Of course, both projects are wildly different in genre and tone, but they’re two of several examples where Coon has added a welcome complexity to mother characters that is not as common as it should be. In Gil Kenan’s Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Coon picks up right where she left off in Jason Reitman’s 2021 franchise revival, Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Her Callie Spengler character, along with boyfriend Gary Grooberson (Paul Rudd) and her two teenage children, Phoebe (Mckenna Grace) and Trevor (Finn Wolfhard), are now full-fledged Ghostbusters, operating out of the famous firehouse in New York City.

The Ghostbusters franchise has never seen complete success in its tenure. While the original Ghostbusters starring Bill Murray has been a cult classic that has been paid tribute to and has been parodied multiple times over the years, the subsequent films have been a hit or miss. It hit a new low with the all-female reboot starring prominent SNL alumni.
However, the franchise seems to have gone further down the hole as its latest entry Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire gets the franchise’s worst Rotten Tomatoes score. The film came on the heels of the well-received Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which starred Paul Rudd and a new cast. Despite the presence of the beloved characters and the return of the Og Ghostbusters, the new film seems to be unimpressive. However, fans still seem to be excited.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire ventures into the realm of the supernatural once again, this time with a fresh perspective and a dash of nostalgia that fans of the beloved franchise will surely appreciate. Made on a lavish $100 million budget, the film is projected to open at a respectable $45 million stateside, matching its predecessor Ghostbusters: Afterlife. It’s evident that despite the passage of four decades, audiences still harbour a fervent love for this iconic series.
Stepping into the directorial spotlight alongside the returning producer and writer, Jason Reitman, is Gil Kenan, who inherits the reins from the previous Afterlife director. The film is also dedicated to the late Ivan Reitman, the original director of the first two films. Also making their return are Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard, The Handmaid’s Tale’s Mckenna Grace, Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon.

With "Ghostbusters: Afterlife," director Jason Reitman sparked a new direction for the sci-fi comedy franchise pioneered by his father, filmmaker Ivan Reitman. Much like the younger Reitman taking the reins of his father's cinematic history, the film grappled with the legacy of the movies that came before by delivering an Amblin-esque family adventure soaked in the nostalgia of the original "Ghostbusters." The result landed somewhere in the middle of being wonderfully entertaining and borderline self-indulgent, and that's coming from someone who has nothing but respect for the groundbreaking 1984 hit that came before it.
Two years later, the spook-nabbing franchise is continuing with "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire," this time directed by "Monster House" filmmaker Gil Kenan. Leaving behind the dusty, rural Oklahoma setting of "Afterlife," the sequel brings the action back to New York City, where the unconventional Spengler family have been handed the baton, or rather neutron wand, of the original Ghostbusters.

In Ivan Reitman’s 1989 sequel “Ghostbusters II,” a river of psychomagnotheric slime zipping underneath New York City gets charged up by the collectively angry feelings of the city’s addled citizens which, in turn, helps power up various evil spirits. A similar idea is at play in Gil Kenan’s “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” itself a sequel to (we’re already guessing) a more-liked first film (2021’s “Ghostbusters: Afterlife”), in which a nasty spirit attempts to kill off the human population by the power of, essentially, bad vibes.
Of course, that basic baddie bit isn’t the only similarity between Kenan’s film and the rest of the original “Ghostbusters” franchise. Such is the world of the legacyequel. But it provides the best roadmap for what Kenan and co-screenwriter Jason Reitman were attempting in their first follow-up to a mostly amiable reboot. A little winking and nodding to what came before?...

The Ghostbusters universe seems to be getting awfully crowded. The latest film in the franchise, celebrating its 40th anniversary (gulp), features a plethora of ghostbusters old and new, including the surviving members of the original cast, the characters introduced in 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and a variety of eccentric new figures who are bound to figure in future installments. The only ones left out, it would seem, are the female ghostbusters from 2016’s unfairly maligned reboot, who should at least have merited a respectful cameo.
Nonetheless, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire tries hard, very hard, to satisfy the series’ fans with plenty of nostalgic throwbacks and mainly succeeds. It’s not nearly as good as the classic 1984 original, but then again, neither was 1989’s Ghostbusters II, and that one was directed by Ivan Reitman and written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, all of whom were responsible for the original. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is getting ready for its big worldwide premiere on March 22, 2024, which is just a couple of days away. Sony’s $100 million sequel Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is looking at a $45 million opening at the domestic box office this week, give or take. The previous installment, Ghostbusters: Afterlife — released during the pandemic in 2021, directed by Jason Reitman and produced by the late Ghostbusters filmmaker Ivan Reitman — opened to $44M and legged out to $129M domestic.
Through four movies, the Ghostbusters franchise box office stands at $945.2M; the fifth title easily will put the brand past the $1 billion mark globally, if not this weekend then shortly thereafter.
‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is playing at 4,300 theaters and will have all the PLFs and a majority of the Imax screens (some still will be playing Dune: Part Two). Previews start at 2 p.m. Thursday in roughly 3,600 locations. Essentially, what we have here is more theatrical product serving the spring break audience, this Friday seeing 15% of K-12 schools off and 15% colleges on break,...

Ghostbusters movies stretch credulity, but this is ridiculous.
At the start of Ghostbusters II, Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) perform for bored kids at a birthday party. Who ya gonna call? Well, if you’re one of the next generation of Ghostbusters, you can probably ring up one of the Og crew, as it turns out they’ve been more than receptive to the younger cast of Frozen Empire. Finn Wolfhard and Dan Aykroyd living together? Mass hysteria!
As Wolfhard told The Hollywood Reporter in promotion for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (and some TV show called Stranger Things – the dude is busy!), the original cast has been welcoming to the new blood, saying, “We spent so many days together on set, and we hung out a few times outside of set as well. Dan [Aykroyd], Annie [Potts] and everyone are such open books, and you can ask them anything about their lives and their industry stories. You can ask Dan about SNL in 1975, and he just remembers it all off the top of his head. So it’s really surreal...

Paul Rudd is back for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, and this time, he’s in the drivers seat of the iconic Ecto-1 vehicle.
Following 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the franchise picks up with an ancient artifact unleashing an evil force, and Ghostbusters new and old join forces to save the world from a second ice age. Original stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson — who appeared briefly in Afterlife — return to their classic roles, starring alongside Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace.
“It was so great getting to work with them on this,” Rudd told The Hollywood Reporter at the film’s New York premiere on Thursday of working with the trio. “It’s so surreal honestly. I’ve been watching Ghostbusters my whole life and I’m such a fan of theirs and a fan of the film, to be part of it is a thrill, a total thrill.
