Going into season 6, Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter had warned fans that it would be the most violent one yet. And he wasn’t joking. That means the FX drama’s special effects supervisor, Chris Nelson, was a busy man. Back in October, we asked Nelson to take us inside two particularly graphic scenes in the deadly episode “Los Fantasmas.” Revisit the conversation below. You may never look at watermelon the same way again.

Spoiler alert! If you haven’t watched the “Los Fantasmas” episode of Sons of Anarchy (read our full recap), stop now. We asked the FX drama’s special effects supervisor Chris Nelson to take us inside its two most graphic scenes. You may never look at watermelon the same way again.

Charlie Hunnam: ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ gets its Christian Grey (photo: shirtless Charlie Hunnam in ‘Pacific Rim’) In the last couple of weeks, the world has been rocked by several revelations that have left earthlings — depending on their particular expectations, prejudices, and mental health — infuriated, terrified, shocked, thrilled. Am I referring to the reported chemical attacks in Syria and the Obama administration’s determination that the U.S. should get involved in that country’s bloody civil war? Syrius Chemical Civil War? Is Obama endorsing a new video game? Is it in 3D? Nope, that’s not what I’m talking about. Nor am I referring to the ivory trade and the relentless poaching of African elephants, which will quite possibly lead to their extinction in the very, very near future. Or to the nearly 1,000 manatees and dolphins that have met with slow and agonizing deaths in Florida’s grossly polluted waterways.

It might be one of the more "prestigious" film festivals, but Sundance still squeezes in the scares, the sleaze, and the strange. Check out their lineup for Park City at Midnight.
Ass Backwards / U.S.A. Hell Baby / U.S.A. (Directors and screenwriters: Robert Ben Garant, Thomas Lennon) — An expectant couple moves into the most haunted fixer-upper in New Orleans – a house with a demonic curse. One of my favorite parts of the Sundance Film Festival is the Park City at Midnight movie line-up. This is where they put on a lot of the horror, sci-fi, comedy and other genre type films. They've also announced the movies that will be a part of the Spotlight and New Frontier sections.
Once again it looks like we've got a lot of solid films to look forward to. Of course there's going to be a few duds in the mix, but for the most part this looks like it's going to be an exciting year at Sundance. I can't wait to watch these movies!
Look over the list, read about the films, and let us know which movies sound interesting to you that you'd like to more know about!

It's hard to believe it's already time to start talking about the Sundance Film Festival, but the 2013 Park City at Midnight lineup was announced today and should be of interest to horror fans. We have all the info here along with some new stills and a few other treats.
Before we get into the meat of Park City at Midnight, it's worth noting that Sightseers, a film we've been covering for a while now, will have its Us premiere as part of the fest's Spotlight program.
Sightseers / United Kingdom (Director: Ben Wheatley, Screenwriters: Alice Lowe, Steve Oram) — Chris wants to show girlfriend Tina his world, but when events conspire against the couple, their dream caravan holiday takes a very wrong turn. Cast: Alice Lowe, Steve Oram. U.S. Premiere

Sundance Film Festival 2013 announced its initial line-up last night, with a very promising slew of films competing in the Us and World Dramatic and Documentary categories, as always.
Tonight, we have more news from Park City, Ut, with the announcement of the films that will be screening in the Spotlight, Park City at Midnight, and New Frontier categories.
Rising young star, Alice Englert (Ginger & Rosa, Beautiful Creatures), will be heading to the festival in the Park City at Midnight category with Jeremy Lovering’s horror, In Fear, which has a very tense and promising synopsis.
Ben Wheatley’s Sightseers will be getting its long-awaited Us premiere, having debuted at Cannes earlier this year, and been earning critics’ praise ever since. Steve Oram and Alice Lowe co-wrote the film and star in the leads, and with the ever-brilliant Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), there’s...

We accurately forecast the inclusions of Jim Mickle’s We Are What We Are and Calvin Lee Reeder’s The Rambler (see pic above) as two of items we’d find at Sundance this year, and with all the media items that were recently released, it became clear that the Simon Barrett, Adam Wingard, Edúardo Sanchez, Gregg Hale, Timo Tjahjanto, Gareth Evans and Jason Eisener directed S-vhs (the second installment in the V/H/S series) was well into the completed stages and were likely going to camp out in the lieu where they showed the debut film. Of course, we didn’t have the slightest clue about what else would be part of the make-up of this year’s slate.
We have Alice Englert (who we promise one day not to mention is the daughter of Jane Campion) toplining the sections’ only non North American entry of the group...

Sundance’s Midnight Movie selection can always be counted on for some high-octane weirdness.
This year brings Rob Corddry and Leslie Bibb in a comedy about a pregnant couple who move into “the most haunted fixer-upper in New Orleans,” a provocative documentary about sex, submission and domination, and Star Wars’ own Luke Skywalker, Mark Hamill, co-starring in an action-adventure about young men obsessed with a first-person shooter game.

[1] Breakout star Melissa McCarthy has signed up for ID Theft, which will team her with the ubiquitous but charming Jason Bateman. As suggested by the title, the comedy follows a man who becomes the target of identity theft. Bateman will play the victim, and McCarthy the thief. McCarthy's role was originally written for a man, but Bateman (who's also producing) pushed to cast McCarthy in the part after seeing her inspired, scene-stealing performance in Bridesmaids. Shooting for ID Theft will begin April 2012, at the start of McCarthy's hiatus from Mike & Molly. The script was originally written by Steve Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness), and is currently in rewrites with Craig Mazin (The Hangover Part II). [Deadline [2]] After the jump, new gigs for Natalie Portman and Parks & Recreation lovebirds Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally. Natalie Portman has been offered the lead role in the indie drama Adaline. Katherine Heigl was once attached to the part,...

Last Thursday night, following hosting a screening and ensuing Q&A of Matt Zettell’s Resurrection County at The Los Angeles Film School (and the after-party at Kung Pao Kitty in Hollywood, CA), Dread was tipped off by the director that he’d just received a script for a sequel to his 2007 flick Cellar Door.
Entitled Cellar Door 2: Preymate, Zettell (pictured l to r with Resurrection County screenwriter James Cotton and stars Kathryn Michelle and Adam Huss) revealed of the film’s plot, “Herman has been locked away in a institution for the criminally insane. There should be nothing to fear. But Jody is running scared. A mysterious copy cat killer is stalking her, taunting her with the last words on earth she wants to hear; “Herman wants to play!.”

Despite being nominated for Best Drama and having its star Anna Paquin win Best Actress in a TV Drama at this year's Golden Globes, "True Blood" was shut out of the major categories for the 2009 Emmy Awards, which announced its nominees earlier today. But that's not to say it, and a few other genre-related shows, won't be showing up at the party.

It's a good day for funny people, especially if your name is Tina Fey or Seth MacFarlane.
Fey's series, 30 Rock, was handed 22 Emmy nominations this morning, which stands as a record for a comedy series. She and Alec Baldwin were also nominated for acting awards. Plus, for the first time some of the other actors on NBC's laffer were recognized. Jane Krakowski, Jack McBrayer and Tracy Morgan all picked up supporting nominations.
MacFarlane's Family Guy was also nominated for best comedy series, the first time an animated show has cracked that category since The Flintstones in 1961. Two years ago MacFarlane decided to pull his show from contention in the animated series category to have it considered for best comedy.
Mad Men, the drama about the advertising world in the sixties, picked up 16 nominations in the drama categories, including a best actor nod for Jon Hamm. Hamm is also nominated as...
