Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire star Dan Stevens truly has a spring in his step right now.
Over the next five months, the English actor has three unique genre films hitting theaters, beginning with Friday’s Godzilla x Kong, which marks his long-awaited reunion with his The Guest director, Adam Wingard. A decade ago, Wingard cast Stevens as David Collins, an unhinged super soldier who ultimately terrorizes the family of a fallen friend and fellow soldier, and the project served as the London native’s breakout feature film role. The Guest continues to increase its cult status with each passing year, and Stevens and Wingard, as well as writer Simon Barrett, have fielded countless requests for a sequel ever since.

Investigation Discovery’s The Curious Case of Natalia Grace and Lifetime’s The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard both opened with stellar ratings, highlighting the continued success of true-crime on television.
In fact, it’s the “Barbenheimer of true-crime,” according to Warner Bros Discovery exec Jason Sarlanis.
Sarlanis, President, TBS, TNT, truTV, ID & Hln for Linear & Streaming at Wbd, said, “What [Lifetime] was able to do with Gypsy Rose and we had with Natalia Grace was like our own little Barbenheimer of true-crime happening. That only really happens if you’re willing to find the good things and find the optimism in every single meeting.”
Sarlanis was speaking Monday at Realscreen in New Orleans on a panel alongside Lifetime’s SVP Original Programming Brie Miranda Bryant; Scout Production co-founder David Collins; WME partner and agent Ryan McNeily; and Susie Jones, head of factual at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

A new season of Queer Eye hits Netflix on Jan. 24, and the rollout is underway with a boost last Sunday from a sixth straight Emmy win in the structured reality category. Series stars Jonathan Van Ness, Antoni Porowski and Tan France have also started teasing season eight on Instagram. Van Ness, the show’s hair guru, called it “on another level,” and food and wine expert Porowski posted, “back for more beignets” as a nod to New Orleans, the production headquarters for the previous season seven and the new batch of episodes. France shared, “Get ready folks, this season’s a great one.” But according to sources, it was also pretty scary.
Season eight of the reality show will no doubt showcase Queer Eye’s trademark mix of humor, heart and life-altering transformations, but there’s a storyline from New Orleans that audiences won’t see. A string of crime...

“Queer Eye” has its “Fab Five” and the crew of Hulu’s “Living for the Dead” ghost-hunting show have nicknamed themselves the “Spooky Bitches,” co-executive producer Rena Lombardo of Scout Productions told TheWrap ahead of Wednesday’s series premiere.
The paranormal show is from executive producer Kristen Stewart, who brought the idea for the series to Scout with her friend C.J. Romero, who also serves as an e.p.
Described as a sort of “gay Scooby-Doo,” it was a natural fit for Scout Productions, whose shows include Netflix’s “Queer Eye” and HBO series “Legendary.” In each episode, the cast visits notoriously haunted locations around the country and commune with both the the dead and the people whose lives have been disrupted by the ghostly happenings.

A new generation of the “Chrisley Knows Best” family will lead an upcoming unscripted docuseries announced by Scout Productions Monday.
The untitled series will follow Chase, Savannah, Grayson, Chloe and “Nanny” Faye Chrisley after their parents — reality stars Todd and Julie of “Chrisley Knows Best” — were sentenced to prison for tax evasion and bank fraud in November 2022. There is no network attached to distribute the show yet.
“The time was right to share our story and we couldn’t have found better partners in Scout Productions,” Savannah Chrisley said in a press release obtained by TheWrap. “They’re ability to balance popular culture and empathy through authentic storytelling is unrivaled and I know they’re going to find the right home for this next chapter of our lives. “We’re so happy to be back.”

The Chrisley family is returning to television with a brand new unscripted docuseries from Scout Productions. Following the lives of Chase, Savannah, Grayson, Chloe and “Nanny” Faye Chrisley, the series will pull back the curtain on one of the most turbulent times for the family since starring in “Chrisley Knows Best” and its multiple spinoffs.
Todd and Julie Chrisley were sentenced to 12 and seven years in prison, respectively, amid a conviction of tax evasion and bank fraud. Their prison sentences have undoubtedly shifted the Chrisley family. In their absence, 26-year-old daughter Savannah acquired custody of her younger brother Grayson and her half-brother’s daughter Chloe. The series will show how the family is doing amid these major changes in their lives.

Exclusive: Todd and Julie Chrisley were sentenced last year to a combined of 19 years in prison for crimes including tax evasion and wire fraud.
However, that hasn’t stopped other members of the Chrisley Knows Best family from their television careers.
Chase, Savannah, Chloe, Grayson, and “Nanny” Faye Chrisley are set to star in a new reality series from Queer Eye producer Scout Productions.
The docuseries, which is in development, will see the kids and Todd Chrisley’s mother pick up their lives after their parents were locked up.
There’s plenty of drama surrounding the family outside of their parents; Chase Chrisley recently split with his fiancé Emmy Medders, while Savannah Chrisley recently revealed that she spends thousands of dollars a month on therapy for herself, her brother Grayson and niece Chloe.

Not long after Bravo canceled Queer Eye for the Straight Guy in 2007, the show’s creators thought their showbiz careers were over. Despite masterminding one of the 21st century’s seminal reality TV hits, David Collins, Rob Eric and Michael Williams — the team behind Scout Productions, founded in 1994 as a scrappy indie film outfit based out of Boston — were struggling to find another hit now that they’d been rebranded as unscripted lifestyle guys. “In 2004, we won an Oscar for The Fog of War and an Emmy for Queer Eye,” Collins says. “Two years after that, we could not get arrested. There was a moment where I was like, ‘All right, am I going to become a barista?’ “

Based on its first trailer, FX’s upcoming docuseries about Hillsong Church seems as though it’s going to be as explosive as its subject matter.
In this first look at “The Secrets of Hillsong,” the series accuses Hillsong of “child abuse, labor abuse and sexual assault.” The four-part series is set to premiere on FX on May 19 at 10 p.m. Et/Pt.
The trailer features interview footage of disgraced ex-pastor Carl Lentz. The celebrity pastor served as a spiritual advisor to Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber and Kendall Jenner before he was fired in 2020. According to Hillsong Global Pastor Brian Houston, Lentz was fired for “leadership issues and breaches of trust, plus a recent revelation of moral failures.” But as the docuseries teases, there may be more to this story.
“You do not want to be in this chair. I cannot stress it enough,” Lentz says in the trailer.

We’ve seen “Queer Eye” make over all types of heroes over the years — from ranchers to gay pastors. But we’ve never seen anything like what Season 7 is promising. In Netflix’s first trailer for the new season, which premieres on May 12, the Fab Five are going to be helping the brothers of Lambda Chi Alpha.
“That’s right, we’re doing a frat house,” Bobby Berk says in the trailer.
It isn’t long before those cheery quips become screams of horror as the five enter this mold and fly-covered party house. It’s all part of Berk, Antoni Porowski, Jonathan Van Ness, Karamo Brown and Tan France’s new season in New Orleans. But it’s not going to be all sequins and Mardi Gras masks. In the tear-filled trailer, the team asks their heroes to confront everything from toxic masculinity to their own internalized homophobia.

FX has set a new docuseries, “The Secrets of Hillsong,” which will feature the first interviews with married couple Carl and Laura Lentz since they were ousted as pastors of the infamous megachurch.
The four-part series is based on reporting from Vanity Fair’s Alex French and Dan Adler about Hillsong, which became famous for attracting celebrities like Justin and Hailey Bieber and Kylie and Kendall Jenner — before the church was exposed for involvement in misconduct including marital infidelity and child sexual abuse.
The church was previously the subject of the Discovery+ docuseries “Hillsong: A Megachurch Exposed.”
Along with the Lentzes, “The Secrets of Hillsong” includes interviews with former congregants and others connected to the church, such as Tiff Perez, Ashley Jones and Mary Jones, Josh Canfield, Janice Lagata, Geoff Bullock, David Shoebridge, David Cowdrey and Tanya Levin.
Stacey Lee directs the docuseries, which hails from Scout Productions and Vanity Fair Studios.

HBO Max’s cancelation of voguing competition series Legendary has not gone down well in the LGBTQ+ community.
The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) organization has slammed the move, which came last week as part of a swathe of cuts and cancelations at the embattled Warner Bros. Discovery streamer.
The series was fronted by Mc Dashaun Wesley with judges including Leiomy Maldonado, Jameela Jamil, Law Roach, Megan Thee Stallion and Keke Palmer and was one of the most inclusive non-scripted series on television.
“Legendary raised the bar for inclusivity on TV programming on so many different levels, especially when it comes to celebrating Black and queer culture,” GLAAD noted. “While Legendary is unfortunately just the latest LGBTQ-inclusive programming to get canceled by their network this year, the creative team and Scout Productions prioritized uplifting unheard talent and voices and we’re hopeful that these types of stories are able to be told again.

The New York ballroom-style competition series “Legendary” has been canceled at HBO Max after three seasons, TheWrap has confirmed.
On the one-hour reality competition series, vogue dancers represented their houses and battled it out on the stage, going against one another in nine balls that were judged on the basis of fashion, style and uniqueness. At the end, the winning house would leave with 100,000.
The judges included Leiomy Maldonado, Law Roach, Jameela Jamil and Keke Palmer, with the show’s host being Dashaun Wesley. Megan Thee Stallion served as a judge on the first two seasons. The series won two Emmy awards this year for Outstanding Contemporary Makeup for a Reality Program and a TCA award for Outstanding Achievement in Reality Programming.

Reality competition series “Legendary” has been canceled at HBO Max after three seasons.
The news comes just one day after Variety exclusively reported the cancellation of “FBoy Island,” another fan-favorite unscripted project at the streamer.
The series took place within the New York ballroom scene, following different houses of vogue dancers as they competed in balls and fashion showcases in order to achieve “legendary” status. Among the cast were Mc Dashaun Wesley and DJ MikeQ as well as celebrity judges Law Roach, Jameela Jamil, Leiomy Maldonado and Megan Thee Stallion. Season 1 premiered in 2020, while Season 2 came in 2021 and Season 3 premiered in May of this year.
Like with “FBoy Island,” the end of “Legendary” points to a larger story within the continued impact of the Warner Bros. Discovery merger. CEO David Zaslav brought with him not just a stacked unscripted slate from across the Discovery brands, but also a rather brutal cost-cutting spirit.

Exclusive: The reality cancellations are coming thick and fast at HBO Max.
The streamer has canceled voguing competition series Legendary after three seasons.
It comes after it emerged that FBoy Island was canceled after two seasons.
Similar to the Nikki Glaser-fronted dating series, Legendary is a relatively expensive show for a streaming service that pulled out of original unscripted orders earlier this summer. At the time, the streamer noted that while it wasn’t ordering any new unscripted originals, it would consider renewing existing shows but FBoy Island and Legendary are more expensive than the David Zaslav-run company would like to spend on unscripted shows.
It’s also a blow for diversity in unscripted programming as Legendary was one of the most inclusive reality shows on air and praised by GLAAD.
Legendary features a group of voguing houses, each featuring five performers and a leader called the house mother.

TV phenomenon "Barney & Friends" is the subject of a forthcoming docuseries that breaks down how the beloved children's show became a target for hate. "I Love You, You Hate Me," a two-part event from Peacock directed by Tommy Avallone, highlights the astronomical rise of Barney in the early '90s, as well as the friendly purple dinosaur's terrible treatment from furious public backlash.
In the trailer for "I Love You, You Hate Me," talking heads like Bill Nye the Science Guy, NBC's Al Roker, and others share stories about how the world turned on Barney's positive messages of love, acceptance, and inclusion - all of which stemmed from creator Sheryl Leach - before the clip begs the question: "Why does the world love to hate?" "As her beloved character was heading into the stratosphere, people couldn't accept that this was just a show," Roker says.

Barney can be your friend, too, if you just make-believe him. But what if you just irrationally hate him?
Hit children’s series “Barney and Friends” promoted loving each other despite differences, but new Peacock docuseries “I Love You, You Hate Me” chronicles the rising backlash to Barney’s message.
The two-part limited series premieres October 12 and features a deep dive into the rise and fall of Barney the Dinosaur’s furious backlash — and what it says about the human need to hate, per an official synopsis. From Barney-bashing to frat parties to homicidal video games, something in American society broke into a million pieces, and it’s never been put together again…or is this just who we were all along?

Finnish director Klaus Härö makes his English-language debut with Toronto Film Festival premiere “My Sailor, My Love.” A gentle drama about a retired sea captain falling in love one last time will be spotlighted at the Helsinki-based event Finnish Film Affair next. Global Screen is handling the sales.
Härö, an experienced filmmaker behind Golden Globe-nominated “The Fencer,” didn’t feel “desperate” to make a movie in English, he says.
“I hope it doesn’t feel forced. With English, there is always this thought that maybe this way, it will reach more people. But it just felt natural to set it in Ireland.”
“I love the loneliness of this landscape, its proximity to the sea. Also, ‘The Fencer’ was shot in Estonia and my next film will be in Finnish, German, Hebrew and Yiddish.”

George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road is simply one of the best movie reboots/resurgences of all time. The film was such an instant classic, in fact, that it garnered six Academy Awards in 2016 and has placed on countless Best-of lists since its release, including our ranking of the Best Sci-Fi Movies of the Last 15 Years. A version of this story about “Queer Eye” creator David Collins first appeared in the Down to the Wire: Comedy issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
Since debuting on Netflix in 2018, “Queer Eye” has won the Emmy for Outstanding Structured Reality Series four times in a row. Now the show — in which the Fab Five travel the country helping people with grooming, fashion, cooking, home decor and life coaching — could make Emmy history. If “Queer Eye” wins this year for Season 6, it will set a new record for the most consecutive triumphs in that category, breaking its current tie with ABC’s “Shark Tank.”
For David Collins, who created the “make better” reality series with his company, Scout Productions, the milestone is “nothing short of mind-blowing.”

Amy Poehler and Peacock are cleaning house. The NBCU streamer has ordered a non-scripted series based on Margareta Magnusson’s book The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning.
Parks and Recreation star Poehler will produce via her Paper Kite Productions, alongside Queer Eye producer Scout Productions, and will narrate the series.
The hour-long transformation series features people who are at a major crossroads and need to get their houses and lives in order. A Swedish “Death Cleaner” will help organize and demystify homes, lives, and relationships, allowing us to prepare for death while we enjoy life
The Swedish Death Cleaner will turn each home upside down as they uncover and undo decades of collecting. With their distinctly Swedish sensibility, they liberate each person from the clutter in their lives, and allow them to pass on treasured mementos — and the deeply personal stories behind them — to their family, friends, or neighbors.
