Over two decades after the Oklahoma City Bombing, director Barak Goodman explores the evolution of the hateful, terrorist act in his documentary, aptly titled Oklahoma City. Starting with the bombing and its immediate aftermath, we track back into the past, digging into the resurgence of white nationalism in the far (and then not-so-far) corners of the United States.
The name Timothy McVeigh does not come up until halfway through the film, though his recorded courtroom comments haunt the entirety. The journey there is both interesting and infuriating. How did we get to the stage where trailer launches seem like bigger events than the movies they're promoting? Hype and buzz rule all, but that said we'll admit we still get a giddy thrill out of seeing a good trailer. The 2-minute promo has become an art form in itself, and in 2014 Hollywood went to town when it came to selling the biggest and best films.
Digital Spy looks at 10 of the best trailers of the year below...
10. Gone Girl
David Fincher knows how to put a trailer together, and the tease for his adaptation of Gone Girl used Richard Butler's rendition of 'She' to gloriously unsettling effect. On first glance this looks like a fairly routine disappearance thriller, but in keeping Rosamund Pike's Amy Dunne in the background there's a sense that maybe Fincher and author/screenwriter Gillian Flynn are holding something back.

The promotional push is on for the October 3 release of David Fincher’s latest offering Gone Girl starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike.
Along with a new influx of trailers has come the slow leak of music from the film’s original score, once again provided by favoured musical collaborators Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
While another Reznor/Ross score was tied to the film all along, though, Fincher decided to pull out another musical trick for the first glimpses of the film, provided earlier this year. Mimicking a stylistic choice from his teaser for The Social Network back in 2009, the Gone Girl teaser featured clips over an eerie cover.
For the previous film, it was a children’s chorus taking on Radiohead’s “Creep." Fincher kept it atmospheric but took a more grown-up vibe on the Gone Girl teaser, choosing Psychedelic Furs front-man Richard Butler and his cover of...

Last month, we got the first trailer for David Fincher's fall thriller "Gone Girl," and as expected, it really got people talking. Based on the novel by Gillian Flynn — who has since clarified her remarks about how drastically the ending has been changed or not from her book — it stars Ben Affleck as a man who becomes the prime suspect when his wife, played by Rosamund Pike, goes missing. But as always, the truth is never quite what it seems. And while the trailer was clever — archly powered by a cover of Elvis Costello's "She" by Richard Butler of the Psychedelic Furs — it kept the tone of the movie just out of reach. Well, one person who has seen it is Trent Reznor. And he has some interesting things to say. The Nine Inch Nails frontman is one again teaming with Atticus Ross to score Fincher's film,...

The first full length trailer for director David Fincher's Gone Girl was released earlier this week. Featuring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, the story seemingly revolves around a flashback/modern day narrative in which Ben Affleck's character searches for his wife who has gone missing, and judging by the final shot of the trailer, is presumably dead. I am a pretty huge fan of Fincher's Zodiac and am more than thrilled that he is returning to the true crime genre. All the Fincher staples appear to be present, with the dark cinematography, the seemingly slow burn, yet stylized narrative, and inspired music choices with Richard Butler's cover of Elvis Costello's "She."...

“I did not kill my wife. I am not a murderer.”
Following in the tradition of releasing trailers that are downright awesome, the first teaser for David Fincher’s latest film – Gone Girl, based on the best-selling novel by Gillian Flynn – has made its way online. And just like the trailers we glimpsed once upon a time for the likes of The Social Network and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, both of which went on to receive critical and commercial acclaim, Gone Girl’s minute and a half teaser is appropriately gripping and eerie – something akin to a work of art in itself, even.
The trailer is rendered in a series of characteristically Fincher-esque shots, then, backed by a bizarro world rendition of Charles Aznavour’s “She” (by Richard Butler), which evokes memories of that Social Network trailer and its cover of Radiohead’s “Creep.

[Youtube "sOPLieLQQQs"] "I did not kill my wife. I am not a murderer." Ben Affleck has only a few lines of dialogue in this spellbinding first trailer for Gone Girl, David Fincher's movie adaptation of Gillian Flynn's celebrated thriller. But he's in almost every frame - a husband haunted by his wife Amy's disappearance. The trailer is almost like a dark and brooding music video, set to a Richard Butler cover of the famous Charles Aznavour song "She." Fincher's trademark stylized gloom is everywhere, as Affleck, playing Nick Dunne, feels pressure from a growing media frenzy and from police...

20th Century Fox has debuted both the first poster and trailer for David Fincher's adaptation of Gillian Flynn's hit novel "Gone Girl" which hits screens October 3rd. Ben Affleck plays a man who emerges as the prime suspect after his wife Amy (Rosamund Pike) mysteriously disappears after celebrating the couple's fifth wedding anniversary.
If you're a Fincher fan you'll know what to expect out of this trailer. There's a heavy use of a cover of a classic song, in this case Richard Butler of The Psychedelic Furs is doing a new version of the Charles Azanavour classic "She," combined with underlit digital cinematography and super quick cutting.

The first trailer for Gone Girl, the highly-anticipated thriller starring Ben Affleck, was released on Tuesday.
Gone Girl Trailer Released
In Gone Girl, Affleck plays a husband whose wife goes missing. Following her disappearance, he’s haunted by visions of her as he finds himself as both a suspect of the police and a fascination of the media and public. Directed by David Fincher, the film is an adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s haunting novel of the same name. Flynn also wrote the film’s screenplay.
The trailer for Gone Girl is sparse on dialogue, setting the tone of the film through glimpses of an at times tense-at times loving marriage between Affleck’s character Nick Dunne and his wife Amy Dunne, played by Rosamund Pike. In the background of the somewhat chilling trailer plays Richard Butler’s cover of Charles Aznavour’s “She.”

There's a cover version of "She" that Elvis Costello recorded for "Notting Hill" that positively floors me every time I hear it. I think Costello has one of the great male signing voices of the last 40 years, and that song is positively perfect for him, full of longing and regret and that particular blend of joy and pain that distinguishes the best love stories. It's not a song he wrote, though. It was first recorded by Charles Aznavour in the '70s, and he did versions in several different languages. I've always wanted to use the Costello version in a particular film. I've had it in my head since I wrote a scene in a script at least a decade ago, and since then, I've hoped that no one would use it, that it would pretty much completely fade away. And now David Fincher's gone and ruined that for me,...

David Fincher: Gone Girl director's career in trailers
Gone Girl, the big screen adaptation of Gillian Flynn's best-selling novel, has premiered its first trailer.
David Fincher's film stars Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike as Nick and Amy Dunne, whose marriage is rocked when the latter disappears on their fifth wedding anniversary.
The teaser is soundtracked by a chilling cover of Charles Aznavour's 'She' from Psychedelic Furs frontman Richard Butler.
Flynn, who previously described Fincher as her "all-time favourite director", has written the script for the movie. Reese Witherspoon is producing the thriller alongside Bruna Papandrea and Leslie Dixon.
The film version will deviate from the alternating chapters of the book - Nick and Amy takes turns narrating in the first person - and also feature a reworked ending.
"Ben was so shocked by it," Flynn said of the revised third act. "He would say, 'This is a whole new third act!

20th Century Fox has unveiled the first trailer David Fincher's “Gone Girl,” which stars Ben Affleck as a man who comes under suspicion when his wife (Rosamund Pike) disappears. The film is based on Gillian Flynn's bestselling novel of the same name. The last time Fincher adapted a bestselling novel was “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.” For the trailer, Fincher employs Richard Butler's cover of “She” to haunting effect as search parties look for ‘Amazing Amy’ and the media hounds her husband, who maintains his innocence. Tyler Perry and Neil Patrick Harris co-star in “Gone Girl,...

Head, a new exhibition at Bosi Contemporary, orbits eccentrically around the notion of the human head as an avatar for the human condition. Curators D. Dominick Lombardi and Robert Curcio have gathered 36 idiosyncratic examples of the head as social signifier, troubled mask, and dream-like presence. The eleven artists represented here unsettle us with their evocations of head as the repository of the psyche which demands to make itself known.
The spirit of the show is embodied in Nina Levy's hyper-realist sculpture of a standing woman in a little black dress, one hand clutched across her body, the other thoughtfully cradling her chin. "Spectator" is the perfect gallery goer, except for a monstrously large head which covers her own – the self-conscious ego worn like the costume of a team mascot.

Washington, Mar 28: Approximately 201 million years ago, the Triassic-Jurassic mass extinction killed off a slew of huge predators, including hefty beasts that looked like crocodiles and enormous armadillos which resulted in domination of dinosaurs, a new research has suggested.
Some of the prehistoric predators-animals known collectively as the early pseudosuchians - most likely preyed on certain dinosaurs, which later evolved some of impressive characteristics of the ancient pseudosuchians.
Those features included were sturdy body armour and strong tails for fighting off enemies.
Co-author Richard Butler, a paleontologist at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitat, told Discovery News that it is likely that dinosaurs prospered.

If you haven't seen the T-shirts being given out to the crew for "Toy Story 3," you're definitely going to want to check out director Lee Unkrich's posts today. They're must-sees Disney and Pixar fans. I almost gave him Twitter Pic of the Day status, too, but Kevin Nealon's shot with Sarah Silverman in a headlock edged them all out. Furthermore, I couldn't pick just one side of one of the shirts to spotlight.

Juliana Hatfield once said that happy lyrics don't come naturally to her, and her slick, mellow eighth album offers little to contradict that statement. How To Walk Away features a series of unsentimental examinations of what it means to be alone, to be left behind. In "This Lonely Love," over a sturdy piano, Hatfield sings about a love that lacks "the touch of flesh and blood." (Richard Butler of The Psychedelic Furs sings in the background, but his distinctive rasp is lost in the gloss.) "Now I'm Gone" is the closest thing to a full-bore rocker: Meaty guitar punches through the aural varnish as Hatfield gives an aristocratic lover the kiss-off. In "Remember November," the simple rhyme of the title efficiently expresses the resignation felt by someone filled with pleasant memories of a short, passionate, necessary affair. The song finds Hatfield playing a libidinous alpha female who enjoys...
