Ryan Murphy is not one to shy away from many things. This even includes casting names not normally known for acting, such as Lady Gaga’s early crossover role when she made her appearance in the FX series, American Horror Story. Recently, Murphy even cast Kim Kardashian in a later season of American Horror Story, who isn’t the most popular figure, given the amount of exposure she’s received for years. Murphy would drop a teaser for his upcoming horror drama for FX, which you can watch below, and Deadline has reported that Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce will be making his Hollywood debut in Grotesquerie.

Travis Kelce continues his push into Hollywood, scoring a role in Ryan Murphy’s FX horror series Grotesquerie.
Grotesquerie star Niecy Nash-Betts confirmed Kelce’s involvement in the show in an Instagram video posted on Tuesday. Although details on the show are scant, Nash-Betts along with Courtney B. Vance and Lesley Manville are among the announced castmembers.
No details have been revealed on what role Kelce will be playing. In February, Murphy dropped a teaser for a new series titled Grotesquerie in an Instagram post. The cryptic teaser features Nash-Betts’ voice, sounding very disturbed about a crime scene.
Kansas City Chiefs star Kelce, who is having something of a pop culture moment due to his relationship with Taylor Swift and his team winning the most recent Super Bowl, has been increasingly upping his off field entertainment work and even dabbling in the dramatic arts. The Impact of Height in Celebrity Self-Perception: Madonna’s Perspective
She once mentioned feeling like a “shrimp” in an interview due to her height, although she believed it was average. For context, the average American woman typically has a height of around 5 feet 4 inches.
I’ve always wanted to be taller. I feel like a shrimp, but that’s the way it goes. I’m five-foot four-and-a-half-inches – that’s actually average. Everything about me is average. Everything’s normal, in the books. It’s the things inside me that make me not average.

Norman died Sunday night of natural causes at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, his family announced.
Norman collaborated frequently with director Henry Jaglom, with the two working together on Tracks (1976), Sitting Ducks (1980), Venice/Venice (1992), Babyfever (1994), Déjà Vu (1997), Festival in Cannes (2001), Hollywood Dreams (2006), Irene in Time (2009), Queen of the Lot (2010), The M Word (2014) and Ovation (2015).
In Robert Zemeckis’ action-adventure Romancing the Stone (1984), starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner, Norman and Danny DeVito play the smuggling cousins Ira and Ralph, respectively.
“Look at those snappers,” Ira says in admiration whenever he sees a croc.

Sacha Baron Cohen and Chris Rock had the good sense to arrive early at the Jean-Michel Basquiat Made on Market Street exhibition at the Larry Gagosian Gallery in Beverly Hills.
They surveyed the 30 or so Basquiat art works in relative peace ,before the throng arrived.
Cohen tells me he came straight from writing something “for TV” that might shoot in Los Angeles or in London, he wasn’t sure. Interesting.
There may also be a film. But before anything else he’ll be seen along with Cate Blanchett, Kevin Kline, Lesley Manville and Louis Partridge in Disclaimer, the TV drama thriller Alfonso Cuarón has written and directed for Apple TV+.
Jeffrey Wright at the Basquiat exhibition. Photo Bamigboye/Deadline.
Rock and Cohen had skedaddled with pal Guy Oseary to see Madonna by the time Oscar nominee Jeffrey Wright presented himself at the gallery. It was wholly appropriate that the American Fiction star be there.

Tracee Ellis Ross has spent time in LA, NYC, and Milan this February. The busy star has embraced several aesthetics this month, including her most recent, a Carhardt-inspired workwear look. Follow along on her February fashion journey.

Ross last wore Prada in mid-January, donning a business-casual gray collarless jacket and pencil skirt, reports Fashionista. This time, the 51-year-old headed to the Prada Fall/Winter 2024-25 Womenswear presentation wearing head-to-toe Prada again.
A sheer navy skirt and white blouse served as the base of her workwear-inspired look. A mint green fringed collar livened up Ross’s top and echoed the label’s 2024 aesthetic. The daughter of Diana Ross topped the ensemble with a distressed Prada utility coat in a classic workwear colorway: tan and mahogany.

The 39th Santa Barbara International Film Festival came to a close Sunday, but one of its highlights came three days earlier, with the last of the filmmaker tributes that serve as the spine of the fest.
On Thursday evening, inside Santa Barbara’s historic 2000-seat Arlington Theatre, veteran stage and screen actor Jeffrey Wright — who is Oscar-nominated for the first time in his nearly 30-year film career, for his leading performance in Cord Jefferson’s American Fiction, a dramedy about race in America — was feted with the fest’s Montecito Award following a deeply engaging career-retrospective conversation with Sbiff executive director and passionate Wright admirer Roger Durling.
Wright, 58, spoke about being raised by his mother and his aunt, and never really even considering acting until he got to Amherst College, where he began to fall in love with the craft (and to abandon the notion of attending law school). He...

Claire Foy and Richard E. Grant are set to lead a new period drama directed by Peter Glanz.
Titled “Savage House,” the eighteenth century black comedy also stars Bel Powley (“A Small Light”) and Jack Farthing (“The Lost Daughter”).
Kila Lord Cassidy (“The Wonder”), Richard McCabe (“Napoleon”), Vicki Pepperdine (“Poor Things”) and Pip Torrens (“The Iron Lady”) round out the cast. The film recently wrapped in the U.K.
“Set against the backdrop of eighteenth century England, a massive pox outbreak, and Jacobite uprising – this is a timely and darkly satirical story of Sir Chauncey Savage (Grant) and Lady Savage (Foy) and their blind pursuit of a better life,” reads the logline. “It is not without a tinge of irony that their family name is the Savages, for this is a Savage House indeed. Joe Biden didn’t score an endorsement from Taylor Swift on Super Bowl Sunday, as some had predicted. But her boyfriend Travis Kelce is using the president’s renewable energy tax credits to finance the film “My Dead Friend Zoe.”

While filming Basquiat, the 1996 film from director Julian Schnabel, Jeffrey Wright was tasked with slipping into the world of the artist Jean Michel Basquiat. If the nature of the role wasn’t creative enough, he was on set working alongside David Bowie, who was cast to play Andy Warhol. Soon, the lines between the different forms of art at play — film, music, painting — started to blur. During a recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Wright recalled Bowie playing unreleased music while on set.

In 1987 in Hamburg, Germany, the first ever “art amusement park” opened to the public, featuring works by legendary artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring and even Salvador Dali. For three short months, families came together to experience the artistic oddities of the park — before the whimsical creations were soon forgotten. Locked away in 44 shipping containers for 36 years, the rides and pieces created for the original Luna Luna were seemingly forgotten.
Now, thanks to curation and restoration provided by Drake, fans and art aficionados are once again able to experience these one-of-a-kind works, up close and personal, at Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy in Los Angeles.
Tucked away among industrial warehouses in downtown L.A., the park features 19 rare and pristinely restored works by many of the world’s most well-known modern artists. It is divided into two main rooms for viewing.
On the first side, there’s a painted chair ride designed by Kenny Scharf.

By far one of the most delightful films of the year––even when it breaks your heart––Pablo Berger’s Robot Dreams is a deceptively simple take on companionship that uses robots and animals to tell a very human story about friendship and life.
Adapted from Sara Varon’s 2007 graphic novel of the same name, Berger’s lively film respects the form, telling its story without dialogue and instead relying on music and sound effects to drive the story of Dog and Robot forth. Dog spends his life in a sterile East Village apartment, circa the 1980s––eating microwaved meals, playing pong, drinking Tab, and yearning for companionship in the shadow of his Yolo poster. Flipping around the channels, Dog stumbles across an ad for a companion robot and spends the next few days assembling his new friend.

Don’t expect Jay-Z to follow the trend of veteran artists selling their masters. In a two-part interview with CBS News’ Gayle King, the rapper recalled how reacquiring his master recordings was “the fight of my life” and said he would leave the decision of selling his catalog to his children.
“I get why people do it, I’ve been fortunate enough to make money in this place, but for me, it was the fight of my life,” Jay told King about getting his masters back from Def Jam. “You know from being an independent company from the beginning and then going through the Def Jam system not really understanding how that works and then having my masters, then going back to Def Jam as the president and then saying, ‘Okay, I’ll do this job and part of this job is my masters has to be reverted back to me.

Tkay Maidza has shared another preview of her upcoming sophomore album Sweet Justice with the new single “Wuacv.” Along with it, she’s unveiled a run of album release shows in the US and Europe.
An acronym for “woke up and chose violence,” “Wuacv” is a biting revenge anthem. Over its ominous, blaring instrumentals, Maidza both flaunts her success and warns her enemies, likening her artistic prowess to that of Jean-Michel Basquiat and her thirst for blood to Freddy Krueger’s. As she explains in a press release: “I wanted to write a song where I could express my bubbling anger toward people who had manipulated me during the last phase of my life.” The song arrives with an accompanying Bel Downie-directed music video, which features Maidza with various weapons, dangerously sharp jewelry, and a muzzle.

A scrappy urban tale of misspent young adulthood, Olmo Schnabel’s “Pet Shop Days” evokes the blown-out, stolen-shot 16mm character studies of 1990s independent cinema, as well as the bohemian oeuvre of painter and filmmaker Julian Schnabel, his father. This isn’t attributable merely to the fact that the younger Schnabel includes a scene in which his characters watch Julian’s 1996 “Basquiat,” whose themes and aloof tone — not to mention the events of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s actual life — would seem an obvious inspiration for his first feature. But in a contemporary absence of true New York stories told by filmmakers with seemingly more moxie than money, newcomer Schnabel distinguishes himself with a debut that feels tactile, real and suitably off-putting as he attempts to capture the sensibilities (if not always common sense) of twentysomethings.

Drake's son is quite the budding artist. On Aug. 21, the 36-year-old rapper revealed the cover art for his much-anticipated upcoming album, "For All the Dogs," which was illustrated by his only child, 5-year-old Adonis. Against a black background is a drawing of a dog with long ears and bright red eyes, shaded in with messy crayon lines.
After initially keeping his family life private from the world, Drake and Adonis's mom, Sophie Brussaux, started sharing glimpses of the adorable child in 2020, and as he's gotten older, we're learning more about his personality and interests. Adonis recently appeared in his first interview with Drake, fielding questions for an episode of "Sundae Conversation" in February. During the conversation, the 5-year-old adorably opened up about his friendships and relationship with Drake. Now we're discovering Adonis has creative talents like his dad. Fans even compared Adonis's work with that of legendary artists like...

Robert Douglas Spedden’s grave is located in his family plot, usually surrounded by freshly cut grass. The headstone is incredibly small and stub-like, so no matter how many times you’ve been to Brooklyn’s Green-Wood Cemetery, you’ve probably never noticed it before. You were maybe there to visit Leonard Bernstein, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Samuel Morse, or any of the other 600,000 graves.
Spedden was a child who survived the sinking of the Titanic, famously depicted in Francis Browne’s photograph, where he’s standing on the ship’s deck playing with a spinning top.

"Captain America 4" now has a new name. Originally titled "Captain America: New World Order," the movie is now "Captain America: Brave New World." Whether the new movie will pay tribute to Aldous Huxley's classic 1932 sci-fi novel "Brave New World" remains to be seen, and reps for Disney did not respond to Popsugar's request for comment about the change.
Anthony Mackie, who stars as hero Sam Wilson, announced the news on his Instagram on June 6. "When Harrison Ford tells you how kicking ass should look, you listen!" he wrote in the caption. "LoL… Thanks for the on set wisdom and laughs my friend! Can't wait to do it again… Marvel Studios' Captain America: Brave New World in theaters May 3, 2024." However, shortly after Mackie shared that post, Marvel pushed back the film's release by two months.

Ava DuVernay’s arts and social collective Array has announced its slate of summer programming, including an actor’s masterclass taught by Emmy winner Niecy Nash-Betts, a cinematic celebration of Jean-Michel Basquiat and the debut of two new commissioned projects from Array’s Law Enforcement Accountability Project (Leap).
The summer lineup is curated by Array’s SVP of public programming, Mercedes Cooper, and in keeping with the Array’s mission of “igniting social change through the cinematic arts,” all events are free to the public.
“Array’s focus on instigating narrative change through our non-profit Array Alliance allows us to gather audiences around issues aligned with our core mission and everyday work,” said Cooper in a statement announcing the lineup.
“With film and art as the doorway, this summer’s programs invite conversations around otherness, authority and privilege, love and loss, as well as Black masculinity,” she continued. “Our ongoing...

Exclusive: Oscar-shortlisted Panamanian filmmaker Abner Benaim (Plaza Catedral) is gearing up to direct a feature adaptation of Nemesis, the final bestseller by Philip Roth to be published prior to the famed author’s 2018 passing.
Dealing with such timely themes as an epidemic and antisemitism, Nemesis was described in The New Yorker as having “the elegance of a fable and the tragic inevitability of a Greek drama.” The novel published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt in October of 2010 is set in the summer of 1944, examining the impact of a polio epidemic on a Newark, NJ community and its children.
Peter Glanz (The Longest Week) adapted the screenplay. Pablo Larraín, Juan de Dios Larraín and Andrew Hevia will produce for Fabula — the production company behind Foreign Language Oscar winner A Fantastic Woman, the Kristen Stewart starrer Spencer, and the upcoming drama Maria starring Angelina Jolie. Fernando Loureiro produces for Tigresa.

Here’s the rewind and context if you’re unsure who John Lurie is (And you’ll only be mildly forgiven if you don’t). A cult musician, actor, director and in recent years, painter, Lurie started his career in the New York scene in the 1970s and ‘80s with the provocative punk/jazz/afrobeat band the Lounge Lizards. Lurie just seemed to be a magnet for stardom while seemingly missing most of it himself. He was a best friend and mentor to a young Jean Michel Basquiat, who saw the rise of New York artists first hand like Madonna, Julian Schnabel, knew Andy Warhol, etc.

The extensive 10-floor project took four years to complete and was overseen by architect and designer Peter Marino. On the main floor, what was once an interior of dark wood paneling has been transformed to become a light and bright space, including oversized arched “windows” that are actually video installations depicting the surrounding city. From couples who bought matching jewels that commemorated their love to cherished gifts that marked a milestone, the stars of New York and Hollywood embraced a common theme at Thursday night’s party to celebrate the reopening of Tiffany & Co.’s historic Fifth Avenue flagship: Something they’ve given or received in the jeweler’s iconic blue box is a memory they’ve never forgotten.

Jay-Z took the stage of the Louis Vuitton Foundation Auditorium in Paris on Friday for the opening of a new art exhibition entitled “Basquiat × Warhol. Painting Four Hands,” honoring the work and collaborations of Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
While a live Jay-Z affair is fairly rare these days, the 53-year-old rapper came out in full force to support the event sponsored by the Louis Vuitton Foundation and Tiffany & Co. Videos from the evening show off Hov’s classy, suit-and-tie look, and reveal that the setlist included hits like “Ni**as in Paris,” “Diamonds from Sierra Leone,” “Encore,” and more.
The appearance is no surprise for Jay-Z, considering that he’s been a longtime fan of both Warhol and Basquiat, with the latter especially impacting his style. In addition to posing with his own Basquiat in photos, he even has made references to the artists in his songs. “I got...

The strikethrough is a typographical choice that commands attention; it demands that you notice it to the temporary dismissal of everything else around it. Jean-Michel Basquiat, the pioneering painting prodigy who rose to great acclaim before his untimely death in 1988 at age 27, used this device on his canvases intentionally. In fact, for a young, dreadlocked Haitian and Puerto Rican artist navigating the predominantly white fine art world of New York City in the late 1970s and 1980s, his very presence was a strikethrough — attracting eyes, intrigue, critique and passive observation. His outsiderness, ultimately, was outsized only by the ingenuity of his work.
Neo-expressionist painting (the movement Basquiat helped popularize) was direct and challenging in its commentary, elbowing the politeness of minimalist concepts that dominated the midcentury out of the way in exchange for high-energy canvases defined by their vividness and honest portrayal of reality. In that tradition, Lisane Basquiat and Jeanine Heriveaux,...

Jay-Z may have "99 problems," but his bank account certainly isn't one. According to Forbes, the musician and mogul's net worth has reached $2.5 billion as of late March 2023. "Even in a year without a tour or album release, Jay-Z mints millions from his Armand de Brignac champagne and D'Usse cognac," the outlet reported. "Jay-z's assets range from entertainment company Roc Nation to a fine art collection including works by Jean-Michel Basquiat."
In 2019, Jay-Z became the first hip-hop artist to ever become a billionaire. In addition to his music ventures, he amassed his billions through investments in companies like Uber, and his Marcy Venture Partners - named after the housing project in Brooklyn where he lived as a child - raised $85 million that year. Best Play is always a crowded field thanks to a slew of limited engagements that pepper the Broadway calendar, and this season is no different. 18 new works will attempt to be singled out as one of the five nominees.
“Leopoldstat” opened in October to a rapturous response from critics and audiences. It’s the latest drama from Tom Stoppard, who has won this category more than any other playwright. At the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Wednesday night, eight performers who, at different stages of their careers, experienced a big screen breakthrough in 2022, were feted with Virtuoso Awards: Austin Butler (Elvis), Kerry Condon (The Banshees Of Inisherin), Danielle Deadwyler (Till), Nina Hoss (Tár), Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All At Once), Jeremy Pope (The Inspection), Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All At Once) and Jeremy Strong (Armageddon Time).
The Virtuoso Awards gathering at Santa Barbara’s historic Arlington Theatre was moderated, as always, by TCM’s Dave Karger, who spoke on stage with each honoree individually before convening the entire group for a conversation.
Strong, an Emmy winner for Succession, said of being asked to play director James Gray’s father in Armageddon Time, “The responsibility felt massive,” noting that the character was “A Jewish Stanley Kowalski with a PhD.”
Quan, always full of energy, reflected on his journey...
