Hugh Grant's homemade iPhone audition clip left the 'Unfrosted' writers "stunned".The 'Notting Hill' star features in Jerry Seinfeld's comedy 'Unfrosted' as Thurl Ravenscroft – the actor who played Tony the Tiger for several decades – and his home-filmed try-out couldn't have gone down any better.Recalling his audition, Seinfeld's co-writer Spike Feresten told IndieWire: “He had a glass of wine in his hand, and he was on the couch.“We were just stunned on how homemade his audition was — and how good it was. Here’s Hugh Grant at 8 o’clock at night before he goes to bed, crushing the lines. Crushing. That’s when we said, ‘Jerry, close this for us. Get this guy.’”It was no doubt a relief that Grant was perfect for the role because they were "terrified" of not being able to cast anyone.Seinfeld - who also plays Bob Cabana,...

While Jerry Seinfeld and his writing partner Spike Feresten didn’t necessarily have an initial plan for the casting in Unfrosted, the pair knew they had to have Hugh Grant as Frosted Flakes’ mascot Tony the Tiger.
The director and writer recently spoke to IndieWire about how they scored the Notting Hill star for the role of Thurl Ravenscroft in the Netflix Pop-Tart comedy.
“There was a long time where we didn’t have anybody to make this movie. We had the budget, we had the script, but we didn’t have any people to play the parts,” Seinfeld recalled. “That was one of the most terrifying moments. We would go into this little room that we had with each part on a 3×5 card on the wall. And we had [Jim] Gaffigan as Kellogg — and that was it. And there were like 30 parts.”

Bill Burr was in the middle of a standup set in the original room at The Comedy Cellar when his cell phone rang: It was Jerry Seinfeld. What do you do? Burr answered.
Seinfeld wanted Burr to play JFK in his Pop-Tarts (fake) origin story, “Unfrosted.” Burr immediately accepted the role — and then went back to telling jokes to the paying customers.
It was the fastest (and the most public) “yes” that Seinfeld and his writing partner Spike Feresten say they got from a tremendous ensemble comedy cast that includes Seinfeld himself, as well as Jim Gaffigan, Melissa McCarthy, Amy Poehler, Hugh Grant, Max Greenfield, Christian Slater, James Marsden, Jack McBrayer — there’s honestly just too many to list. That wasn’t always the case.

In what will surely come as a huge shock to the general public and cause no small number of monocles to pop out, Amazon MGM Studios has elected to retitle Zoë Kravitz's feature directing debut, which was previously going under the not-at-all provocative moniker "Pussy Island." Kravitz's film will instead be released as "Blink Twice," which for me conjures memories of David Tennant's 10th Doctor desperately warning Carey Mulligan not to blink around the Weeping Angels in the classic modern "Doctor Who" episode "Blink."
That association isn't entirely inappropriate, either. "Blink Twice," like "Blink," is a potpourri of horror, mystery-thriller, and humor with an English actor at its core. In this case, it's Naomi Ackie of "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker," "Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody," and "Master of None" season 3 fame starring as a young woman who accompanies a tech billionaire -- played by Kravitz's current real-life significant other,...

By now, movies should surely have taught us all that going to remote tropical paradises with mysterious billionaires should be right up there on the travel danger list with, say, flying Ryanair. Yet still people keep accepting those invitations. And we suppose when the person doing the asking is Channing Tatum in full Chanrisma mode, it's hard to turn it down, but Naomi Ackie finds that out to her cost in the first trailer for Blink Twice, which you can find below…
With Zoë Kravitz making her directorial debut here, the film finds Ackie as cocktail waitress Frida, who meets tech billionaire Slater King (Tatum). There's an instant connection and soon he's whisking her and her best pal Jess (Alia Shawkat) away to his private island to party with his loopy trustafarian friends.
Initially, it all seems wonderful — sun soaked days, party-filled nights. But then strange things start to happen.

It helps to have friends. Look no further than the first trailer for Zoë Kravitz’s Blink Twice, which boasts a stronger ensemble than your average directing debut: Channing Tatum, Simon Rex, Adria Arjona, Haley Joel Osment, Alia Shawkat, Christian Slater, Geena Davis, and a last-second appearance from Kyle MacLachlan. The cast is led by Naomi Ackie, and ahead of an August 23 release there’s a first, LCD Soundsystem-punctuated trailer that suggests she did well hiring Adam Newport-Berra.

“Disorientation replaced the movie business,” Seinfeld told GQ. “Everyone I know in show business, every day, is going, ‘What’s going on? How do you do this? What are we supposed to do now?'”
Seinfeld was speaking to the outlet in connection with his film Unfrosted, which releases on Netflix next month. The project marks Seinfeld’s directorial film debut.
“It was totally new to me,” he said of the experience. “I thought I had done some cool stuff, but it was nothing like the way these people work. They’re so dead serious! They don’t have any idea that the movie business is over. They have no idea.”
Elaborating on his point, the comedian added he “did not” tell his coworkers that film is over. “But...

The Spiderwick Chronicles released on Roku this past Friday and as part of the show’s press junket, I got to sit down and talk with two of the show’s stars. Beloved character actor Christian Slater, known for classic 80s and 90s movies like Heathers and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and recent TV hits like Mr. Robot and Inside Job, who plays the show’s villain Mulgarath; and the lovely and talented Joy Bryant, known for films like Honey and Get Rich or Die Tryin’, who plays Helen Grace.

In 2003, Tony Diterlizzi and Holly Black introduced the world to the Grace family. After they move into the Spiderwick Estate, things get fantastical for twins Simon and Jared, as well as older sister Mallory. It was only the beginning of this magical story. With the books and a feature film release in 2008, the stories are back. After originally being produced for Disney Plus, The Spiderwick Chronicles series has found a home this weekend on Roku. Showrunner Aron Eli Coleite looked to expand on the world, with the help of its creators. And the impressive cast led by Christian Slater and Joy Bryant, are all in on the fantasy.

Christian Slater currently stars in Roku’s The Spiderwick Chronicles as Mulgarath, an extremely powerful ogre who can shape-shift into any form he wants, whether human or animal. Zack Snyder made his name with his gruesome, much more action-y remake of George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead in 2004. The director then tried to line up an even bigger sequel called Army of the Dead for years, but there were many detours along the way, including his eventual role as the chief architect of the early Dceu. He finally returned to his long-lost zombie sequel in 2021, this time as the launching point of a whole new cinematic universe for Netflix, which also included a crime thriller prequel called Army of Thieves and even an animated series about the initial outbreak in Las Vegas.
There was also talk of a direct sequel to Army of the Dead, which left no shortage of mysteries left to answer in a part two. Were Dave Bautista’s Scott Ward and his team of mercenaries in a time loop all along? What...

Magic is all around in the world of The Spiderwick Chronicles. Most of it is hidden away from the eyes of humans, tucked into obscure corners or shielded from human eyes by glamours. Still, those with hearts and minds open enough to see what’s in front of them — like our 15-year-old hero Jared (Lyon Daniels) — might find in the sleepy town of Henson, Michigan, a veritable haven of otherworldly life. Unicorns frolic in a glen. Sprites flutter alongside fireflies at dusk. Just outside the doors of a nondescript grocery, a goblin market trades in mythical weapons and pumpkin spice lattes.
But if such extraordinary sights are everywhere, the sense of wonder that ought to accompany them proves to be in disappointingly short supply. Even as The Spiderwick Chronicles‘ head drifts into the clouds, powered by fantasies of faeries and ogres and witches and dragons, the Roku Channel adventure is...

I’ll be honest, I had no idea what to expect going into The Spiderwick Chronicles. The original books, despite likely being right up my Percy Jackson-loving alley, completely passed me by as a kid. And while I have vague memories of the trailers for the 2008 film adaptation, I never actually saw the film for myself.
As such, I cannot speak to how the new series, originally produced for Disney+ and nearly thrown in the bin as a cost-cutting measure before being rescued by The Roku Channel, plays as an adaptation or how faithful it is to the source material; though given that the original authors are executive producers, I imagine it’s at least faithful enough.

Minnie Driver claims producers for 1998’s Hard Rain told her she couldn’t wear a wetsuit because “they wanted to see my nipples.”
The Good Will Hunting actress said on Mondays’ episode of the I Weigh With Jameela Jamil podcast that she was made to feel like “an idiot” when she pushed back on a costume decision for the disaster action thriller, despite filming in “20 million gallons of water.”
“It’s set during this massive storm,” she explained. “There were huge rain machines. We shot crazy hours. It was tough…. Last week, Max finally released the trailer for their much-anticipated The Batman spin-off series, The Penguin, teeing up its fall release date. Overall, it looks highly reminiscent of Matt Reeves’ film, with the cinematography very much in the Grieg Fraser mode. But what else do we know about The Penguin? More than you may think.
The Penguin is set after The Batman.
The plot of The Penguin is set to follow the title character, once again portrayed by Colin Farrell, as he rises through the ranks of the Gotham City criminal underworld. After the events of The Batman and the flooding of Gotham, including the death of Carmine Falcone, Cobblepot desperately wants to fill the power vacuum. Colin Farrell has also indicated that the film will serve as an origin story for the Penguin, something we have seen twice on screen before in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns, played by Danny DeVito.

What’s the deal with Pop-Tarts? Jerry Seinfeld is here to provide an answer.
Netflix just released the first trailer for “Unfrosted,” Seinfeld’s feature directorial debut that ostensibly explains how Kellogg’s invented the breakfast treat beloved by millions for decades.
“Michigan, 1963. Kellogg’s and Post, sworn cereal rivals, race to create a pastry that will change the face of breakfast forever. A tale of ambition, betrayal, sugar, and menacing milkmen,” reads the Netflix description.
But as shown in the trailer, “Unfrosted” is anything but straight-faced, and instead treats this de facto arms race like an actual arms race, with Post (led by Amy Schumer and Max Greenfield) positioned as the Soviet Union to the United States of Kellogg’s (where Seinfeld and Melissa McCarthy are the heroes). The all-star cast also includes Jim Gaffigan, Hugh Grant, James Marsden, Bill Burr, Christian Slater, Jack McBrayer, Thomas Lennon, and Bobby Moynihan.

Jerry Seinfeld found directing ‘Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story’ “a little more difficult” than he expected. The 69-year-old comic has worked behind the scenes on a number of projects over the years but the Netflix comedy marks his first feature and he admitted the budget for the film, as well as a star-studded cast that included the likes of Hugh Grant, Christian Slater and Melissa McCarthy, presented more challenges than he realised. He told Empire magazine: “Directing is really just telling people what to do, but it was a little more difficult than I expected because there’s a lot of money involved.“And people in the film world tend to be bigger personalities to deal with.”And Jerry also had to tackle some unrest amongst the crew.He admitted: “We had a blow-up on the set. Somebody in the set department started screaming at somebody else.“I said, ‘Everyone just stop.

A recognized cereal aficionado, Jerry Seinfeld turns his attention to another breakfast treat, the Pop-Tart, in the trailer for his upcoming film, Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story. He gives the subject matter the full Oppenheimer treatment, satirically showing a countdown and a launch of the beloved confection before giving a brief history of cereal. The film, which premieres on Netflix on May 3, marks Seinfeld’s directorial debut.
The trailer shows Seinfeld, in some sort of character, enthusing about the discovery of the Pop-Tart and the ensuing fracas between Post and Kellogg’s.

Jerry Seinfeld’s self-titled sitcom Seinfeld remains to this day one of the most successful, not to mention lucrative, sitcoms in television history. Seinfeld co-created the show with Larry David, and starred alongside Jason Alexander, Julia-Lois-Dreyfus and Michael Richards. The film is set in the aptly-titled Battle Creek, Michigan in 1963. “Unfrosted” marks Seinfeld’s directorial debut.
The all-star cast includes Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Amy Schumer, Max Greenfield, Christian Slater, Bill Burr, Daniel Levy, James Marsden, Jack McBrayer, Thomas Lennon, Bobby Moynihan, Adrian Martinez, Sarah Cooper, and Fred Armisen. Hugh Grant also plays an early Tony the Tiger mascot, swapping the Oompa Loompa orange from “Wonka” for tiger stripes in a full-on costume you have to see to believe.
