Susie in the Afterlife (2010)
A very creative take on the afterlife
Susie in the Afterlife is funny, the dialogue is cleverly written and natural, there is a joke revolving around a laugh track that is both funny and darkly ironic once you think about it, the storyline over all is good. Director Gabe Rodriguez did a great job of directing with his limited set, and actors have great comedic timing, it's a short that's well worth your time. If do have however one little nitpick and I bring it up only because IMDb requires ten lines for this to be submitted, it's that due to the nature of the story, it taking place in one room and nearly two centuries, the pacing slows down at some points as we see Susie try to pass the time in the waiting room of the after life, it's not so much a problem as it is a limitation the director had to work around and overall did a good job at doing so however it does take a few minutes for the film to pick up but when it does the rest is a breeze. Overall not a must see but it is well worth your time.
Gummo (1997)
I Wanted to like it, but I just walked away indifferent
People who know me know I hate mainstream media, and love strange movies. So a friend told me about it, and how I would love how deranged it is and how it was shot. So I watched it on IFC, I wanted to like it, and, as it went on, I started to get pretty bored by it, sure, there is a dude pimping his retarded over weight sister, a trans-gendered kid, a kid in a bunny suit being shot by younger kids in cowboy costumes, there's cat killing, molestation, talks about incest, but thats all there is, I pretty much told you what happens, because nothing happens much, no plot, just a lot of messed up stories told and shown. I normally like pictures like these, but this one just seemed to try too hard to be shocking, and when it was over, I just asked myself is that was it. I do recommend it because it's raw, there's no message or plot, it just happens because stuff like that happens, and in that sense its realistic, but is it a good movie? IN a traditional sense, no, its garbage, but then again so are all blockbusters, its all a matter of taste, really, and tolerance. its a profile of a town of bored and impoverished people. THats all it is, though. Well, enjoy it if you can, it was entertaining, but really bland.

Starship Troopers (1997)
Dumb and smart
For some reason or another, I decided to rent Starship Troopers yesterday, I remembered that I loved it as a kid so I decided, why not? I thought it'd be just another stupid action flick, so I picked it up. The first thing in the film is a Armed forces propaganda mini movie, By the way, watch for a hilarious one later in the movie involving soldiers letting kids play with their guns, which was just hilarious it had some pretty good lines in it that I had a good laugh at, and the first act played like a sci if edition of Dawsons Creek, in the chapter selection section it was called "The ago of innocence," and they were pretty innocent and pure, then the scenes in the camp happened, I expected a cheap Full Metal Jacket sequence and it sort of was but the "twists and turns" that happen were surprising, then the battle sequences begin, this is when the movie started to defy logic and fell into some clichés, the main character discovers that it takes a mess load of bullets to take a bug down when its in machine gun mode, but it only takes three when you use it as a shot gun, you'd think he'd learn from this, but he doesn't, at this battle bullets are never an issue, but get to later battle sequences and people are low on ammo left and right, the sacrifices made in war movies are made, and the clichés are followed. Now that the preceding excessively long sentence is completed, heres a new one to sum it all up: Don't watch this movie expecting academy award winning material, because you wont find it here, this is a fun and smarter than most action movie, I recommend for those who wish to kill two hours.

Saw II (2005)
No story to speak of, just Lotta gore and creative deaths
This movie is bad, not Uwe Boll bad, but just really bad. There is no character development, hell half the characters names aren't even spoken, there is no reason to care about any of them, the dad is a idiot and the kid is whiny, the ending is stupid, all I'm giving this movie credit for is the gore, which it has plenty of. I regret seeing this movie. Only people who would ever like this movie are emo kids and slipknot/mudvayne fans. It's very predictable and the "twist" ending had no build up it just happens because all horror movies nowadays try to have a twist ending, don't waste your time with this crap, go watch A History of Violence or just stay at home and watch Suspiria, Really I'm just writing another line because I hope no one watches this crap, though I'm late because the millions of angst ridden sad teenagers flocked to it opening weekend, I just watched it because I liked the first one's creativity which there wasn't any of in this movie, I hope saw 3 is better, and trust me, THERE WILL BE A SAW 3!
THX 1138 (1971)
A rip off of 1984, Kind of cliché'd, and slow paced but still good
I'm a fan of anything that has to do with a dystopia future society, so I was drawn to this film, so I rented it, the movies starts off kind of funny with and old school mini movie then the credits and then a montage of people opening a bathroom mirror and a voice coming over saying "What's wrong" repeatedly, and then it cuts into the factory where we see THX-1138 we follow him through his day as his house-mate messes with his pills and he gets knocked out, when he wakes up they f*ck and (now a cliché in film about negative utopias) they get caught and get in trouble, and then they go to this massive white room where they are reconditioned, but THX gets away and spends the final third of the film running away out of the city. Up until the ending, I thought that this was 1984 with a different title, I mean its basically the same story, and up until the third act all the events are the same, but this film is still very good, mainly visual with very little dialog, but you don't have to see it a second time to understand that this is a film about a capitalist society and a man breaking the rules and getting persecuted for it, pretty much every book, movie, or song about a dystopia society, but I would still recommend this to anyone, and i bought the DVD because I thought it was a good movie, so I do recommend it but only to those that are patient since it is very slow paced at times, even the chase scene is slow, one of the few movies that can make a car chase slow paced, but, like i said, I liked it, so I recommend it.

Napoleon Dynamite (2004)
the movie depends on vagueness for comedy but at times there is too much vagueness which results in nothing
I don't know why I even saw this movie, I should have known it was bad when I saw previews on MTV, and the last quality thing MTV has brought to us Clone High, USA, then a few weeks later the jocks started talking with a weird accent, saying "gosh" and "dang" at the end of each ending, then I during Algebra this little freshman and I started talking about movies and he brought up Napoleon Dynamite, he said it was really funny and started quoting it then more and more people started telling me that this movie was the funniest thing ever, even one of my friends said so, and we both have the same taste mostly, so later that day me and my friend went home and we decided to rent it, but just as we were about to, just as we were about to leave my little brother came home with a copy he just bought, we sat down and watched it, we started playing it, but then the stupid song came on, and we already had a reason to hate it, and then the actually movie started, and the time went by so slow! I mean it was less than an hour and a half but we were sitting through it trying to find out what was so funny about it, then it ended, and we just stood there in disbelief, my little brothers walked away, I guess they thought it was funny, we just sat there angry, we wasted an hour and a half on nothing, there was no plot the acting was atrocious, I mean this should have not been longer than 15 minutes, he just sits there and does nothing while nothing happens, and he always looks mad at something, there was nothing funny about it at all! NOTHING! We sat around screaming out loud at no one about how bad that was and how horridly overrated this tripe is the movie depends on vagueness for comedy but at times there is too much vagueness which results in nothing, and therefore there is nothing funny, we went to school the next day and I started talking to the people in my Math class again, and I was being yelled at by everyone for not liking it, the thing they almost always said was "You have to use your imagination to make it funny" WHAT?!?!?! How does that make a movie good?! To me all that says is that "This movie is so bad you have to think of funny things for it" WHAT THE F**K?!I'm all for use of imagination but I found it sort of ironic since to me anyways this shows that the American youth has become so stupid they could laugh at a movie that has nothing in it but an uptight white dude and his friends who are just as meaningless.I HATE THIS MOVIE WITH A WHITE HOT PASSION I DESPISE IT I'D GIVE IT 0/10 BUT SINCE I'M FORCED TO GIVE IT A ONE, I RELUCTANTLY GIVE IT A 1/10 STAY AWAY FROM THIS CRAP!
Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004)
Biased, but so was I
I hate George W. Bush, I hate the ideals of the Republican party, I hate the fact that so many innocent people are dying in vain in Iraq. I saw this movie the first time thinking that I knew a lot of Bush's regime and the state of the US, while watching it I realized, I had a lot more to learn. This film is anti-bush, and I was and still am, and therefore the film was biased yet a lot of modern political documentaries are. If you like bush you will hate this film if you are indifferent, it depends on which side you lean towards more, if you are democratic or independent, you will like this film. The way this film is played out is: Topic-Sub Topics-Examples, normally through individuals-Different topic, this repeats itself but in such a way that in the end it all wraps up strongly, leaving a lot of people (for lack of a better term) stunned. It gets under your skin by showing the inhumane attitude of desensitized soldiers, how gullible the average American is, and how sneaky the government truly is and how well they guard their secrets. The music and montages drive this film forward and at the end, the quote from George Orwell's "1984" Fits well with the theme of a doomed future, the music it accompanies drives the point in a hypnotic way and by the time the ending credits roll, you feel ready to actually do something. And though at times it seems that he exploits Lila Lipscomb, it is still a film that no one should miss, if you care for the state of the US or the world (lets face it the US thinks it owns the world) watch it.

Dawn of the Dead (2004)
Not that bad, actually
First of all, I would like to say that I saw this before I saw the Romero version. Now with that out of the way, I think that despite the fact that nearly all satire is gone from this film, it was still very good, the first fifteen minutes of the film were awesome, by itself it could have been a very, very good short film, but then the credits ended and the film got slightly worser and worser as it went along. The acting was not that bad, even though a lot of the dialog was immensely cheesy, mostly due to Ving Rhames, nearly no character development, except for the main security guard. The zombies were very impressive, but on the topic of zombies, they were fast, I'm not a fan of fast zombies, but maybe because I really love old-school zombie movies. But the main thing here that I did not like was that there are about Seven or Eight people in the mall this time, unlike in the original where there is four, giving very little times to really know most of the characters. But in the end it is still a better-than-average zombie movies. Not anywhere near as good as the original but still good.

Spider-Man 2 (2004)
After watching it a few times SPOILERS
I first saw this when it came out and I loved it I though it was awesome. Then I bought the DVD and watched it a few more times and I liked it less and less the more I watched it. First off the acting wasn't good, especially from Tobey, it isn't really that bad until you get to the ending and everything feels rushed, I mean that fight after Dock Ock visits harry was just too rushed, then the subway scene was corny as hell, as was the last speech made by Dock Ock and it was too rushed, then came all the speeches, its as if all of Peter's character development happened with speeches. the last speech wasn't long enough plus Aunt May wearing gloves on a clock hand with a umbrella and not slipping to her death made no sense. But despite the bad stuff there was good stuff, the CGI was better, and we got to see Dr. Connors. It still is good enough for me to not mind watching it a few more times but only if I'm forced to.

The Butterfly Effect (2004)
Cliché: The Movie
I wanted to like this film, mainly because I was prepared for a more Mainstream Donnie Darko, and hopefully I could somehow have my brain Slightly played with., what I got was overly-clichéd movie, even the plot is a cliché, the events in his childhood are clichéd, the disturbed best friend, the bad best friend that gets everyone into trouble, and the love interest. This movie fails to be original in the first scene (SPOILERS) where the teacher hands Evan's mother a picture he drew of what else? Him with a knife, the whole movie keeps getting more and more predictable, the only reason I would recommend this is for the style in which time-travel is done.
