The xXx franchise has always been known for its high-octane action and outrageous stunts, with Vin Diesel front and center as the legendary Xander Cage. The original film in 2002 was a box office sensation, raking in $277 million worldwide. But after Diesel skipped out on the sequel, xXx: State of the Union (replacing him with Ice Cube), the franchise took a nosedive with a much lower $71 million gross.

Fast forward to 2017, Diesel made a significant return in xXx: Return of Xander Cage, and the film earned a solid $346 million. Naturally, fans were buzzing about xXx 4, but now there’s a bit of a disappointing update from one of the franchise stars.

It's a bad day to be a Xander Cage fan. xXx 4 has just received a frustrating update from franchise star Ruby Rose.

Speaking with Screen Rant to promote her new movie Dirty Angels, Rose shared that it has been some time since she heard anything new regarding xXx 4. "I haven't heard anything. I haven't heard anything since 1974," she laughed. "No, I don't know. I would hope so because I would love to work with that cast and crew again. [They're] incredible people." As for what is holding xXx 4 up, Rose believed that "Vin [Diesel]'s busy doing lots of Fast and The Furious 312 and I don't know, but that would be, that was another really fun mission movie, I guess might've been my only other real mission movie, but very different tonally than Dirty Angels."

Los Angeles-based film producer and distributor The H Collective has formed a two-part alliance with Japanese Internet services giant Rakuten. Together they intend to produce and distribute movies in Japan, the world’s third largest box office market.

Formed in 2017, the H Collective is headed by former Paramount executive Nic Crawley. Rakuten has services that range from e-commerce to fintech. It is also one of the largest video streamers in Europe.

Their Rakuten H Collective Studio is a joint venture that will handle in-house film production, financing, intellectual property management, and the production, and the sale of video content. It plans to be involved in creating music, comics, games and other goods based on the content of its films, and to sell advertising through product placement.

Japanese Internet and e-commerce giant Rakuten has come on board The H Collective’s “xXx 4” and Sony’s imminent release “Brightburn.” The two companies will also form a theatrical releasing venture in Japan.

Under the investment agreement, Rakuten has provided financing to “Brightburn,” The H Collective’s first globally released feature film. XXX 4 is gearing up for production and they've just locked in a key piece of the puzzle. Legendary Japanese rockstar and drummer/co-founder of the band X Japan, Yoshiki is set to score the upcoming installment of the action franchise, in addition to composing a new theme song. It's amazing that it's taken this long for Vin Diesel's Xander Cage to get his own theme song, but better late than never.

Vin Diesel’s character Xander Cage is coming back, once again. A little more than a year ago, we heard that Diesel and his people were working on xXx 4, but since then, it’s been quiet. Now, we have confirmation that xXx 4 is indeed in the works, directed by the previous film’s helmer DJ Caruso, and we know who’s going to star opposite Diesel in the film.

The H Collective announced today that renowned musician, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, actor and director Jay Chou will star alongside Vin Diesel in XXX 4, the latest installment of the xXx franchise directed by D.J. Caruso.

Jay Chou is an Asian superstar who has won the World Music Award four times and appeared on soundtracks for films, including: The Green Hornet, Now You See Me 2, and Kung Fu Panda 3. With multiple world tours under his belt, the "King of Mandopop" has acted as a mentor for the past two seasons of The Voice in China. In Hollywood, Chou is known for appearing alongside Seth Rogen in the action comedy The Green Hornet and Jon Chu's Adventure-Comedy Now You See Me 2.

The pic is set up at Diesel’s One Race Films and The H Collective as both companies acquired the rights to the franchise from Revolution Studios.

Chinese actress Zoe Zhang also co-stars in the film that will see Diesel return as Xander Cage. The previous three films have a total worldwide box office tally of $694+ million. Production will commence sometime next year.

Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum will produce with Diesel, Samantha Vincent for One Race Films, and the H Collective. Chinese actress Zoe Zhang (“Chinese Zodiac”), a frequent collaborator with Jackie Chan, also joined the cast.

The H Collective said Tuesday that it will finance “xXx 4” alongside several investment partners, including Sparkle Roll Media, iQiyi Pictures, Dadi Huarui, Star League Media, and Fulcrum Management Co. Production is slated to begin in 2019.

The “xXx” franchise, which includes 2002’s “xXx,” 2005’s “xXx: State of the Union,” and 2017’s “xXx: Return of Xander Cage,” has collectively grossed nearly $1 billion at the worldwide box office. In 2017, “xXx: Return of Xander Cage” generated $168 million in China.

Vin Diesel’s upcoming “xXx 4” has been set as part of an expanded Hollywood-China partnership between The H Collective and Chinese streaming giant iQIYI.

Under a three-film agreement, iQIYI will also invest in horror pic “The Beast,” from H Collective president of production Sherryl Clark, and a currently untitled Manga project.

The two companies already have a three-picture co-production pact. The new agreement expands it to a six-film deal.

Los Angeles-based H Collective, which was established last year, seeks to develop and produce films that can be equally profitable in China and the rest of the world.

The Fast and Furious star has truly asserted himself as a man who can carry a franchise on his back and now, Stx Films has locked him down for the action/comedy Muscle. Diesel and One Race Films’ Samantha Vincent will serve as producers along with Reginald Hudlin and Byron Phillips, who brought the project to STX.

Diesel and The H Collective have also purchased full franchise rights from Revolution Studios. Revolution Studios retains its rights to the first three films.

His TV credits include “The Shield” for FX which earned two Golden Globe wins.

The H Collective, who will finance “xXx 4” alongside investment partners including Sparkle Roll Media, Hch Media, Dadi Cinema, and Angeleno Studio, is currently in production on an Untitled Horror Feature produced by James Gunn starring Elizabeth Banks and is also in post-production on Christopher Cantwell’s “The Parts You Lose.”

Revolution Studios retains its rights to the first three films. D.J. Caruso, who directed “xXx: Return of Xander Cage,” will return to direct “xXx 4” with Diesel reprising his role as Xander Cage. Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum will produce with Diesel, Samantha Vincent for One Race Films and the H Collective.

The companies made the announcement Tuesday. Diesel had said in early 2017 at the “Return of Xander Cage” premiere in London that Paramount execs had expressed interest in the fourth movie, but those plans were never solidified.

The H Collective and Vin Diesel/One Race Films have acquired rights to the xXx franchise from Revolution Studios, and Diesel will reprise his role as Xander Cage in the fourth installment that will go before cameras in December 2018. D.J. Caruso, who helmed last year’s xXx: Return of Xander Cage, is returning as director.

Under the deal, Revolution Studios retains rights to the first three films which have collectively grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide. The franchise, however, has been steadily losing audiences domestically. Xander Cage only opened to $20.1M in its debut weekend in January last year and ran out of gas at $44.8M. The first xXx opened 2002 and hauled in $142.1M domestically.

Vin Diesel is now the proud co-owner of the xXx franchise.

Diesel and his One Race Films have teamed with finance and production company The H Collective to acquire the rights to the action-adventure franchise from Revolution Studios, the companies announced Tuesday.

At the same time, Diesel and H Collective are suiting up to make a new installment, xXx 4.

D.J. Caruso, who helmed xXx: Return of Xander Cage, as well as such movies as Disturbia, will return to direct xXx 4, with Diesel reprising his role as extreme-sports athlete turned reluctant agent Xander Cage.

Vin Diesel is making xXx 4 with director D.J. Caruso after finalizing a deal to buy back franchise rights from Revolution Studios. Diesel first played extreme athlete turned government agent Xander Cage in 2002’s Rob Cohen-directed action thriller xXx. A sequel, xXx: State of the Union, was then released in 2005.

With Diesel becoming occupied by the Fast and Furious franchise, Xander Cage would disappear from movie screens for over a decade.
