Natasha Lyonne has racked up over 130 screen acting credits over the course of a career that stretches back to the mid-1980s – and now she’s ready to make her feature directorial debut. Variety reports that Lyonne, who has co-founded an AI production studio called Asteria, will be taking the helm of Uncanny Valley, a film that will be made by “combining AI tools with traditional filmmaking techniques.” Asteria is described as an “artist-led, ethical AI film and animation studio.”
Lyonne wrote the screenplay with Brit Marling, the co-creator and co-showrunner of The Oa and A Murder at the End of the World. Lyonne and Marling will both have acting roles in the film, which is set in a parallel present and follows Mila, a teenage girl who begins to lose her grip on reality as a globally popular augmented reality video game starts glitching feverishly with increasingly dangerous real-world consequences.

Poker Face star Natasha Lyonne is to direct and star in Uncanny Valley, a sci-fi film which uses generative AI for its virtual world.
Days before the return of hit murder mystery series Poker Face, its star, Natasha Lyonne, has announced a separate project. The actor and filmmaker plans to make a science fiction film that will – in part – be made using generative AI.
Called Uncanny Valley, it’s said to be about a teenager named Mila, who begins to play an augmented reality game that begins to have some sort of disturbing impact on the real world. The script was co-written by Lyonne and Brit Marling, best known for her work as an actor in such cult items as Another Earth and TV’s The Oa, and both will star in their movie in undisclosed roles.
The potentially sensitive bit is the way it’s going to be created:...

We’ve been waiting to see what some true Hollywood mainstays can do with artificial intelligence in filmmaking, and announced today is a project that has the potential to break through into the mainstream in a big way.
“Poker Face” and “Russian Doll” star Natasha Lyonnne is set to make her feature directorial debut based on a script she co-wrote with “The Oa” and “Another Earth” writer Brit Marling. But what really sets the film apart is that it will be a live-action feature film that will blend with it generative AI animation. Lyonne is also teaming with Jaron Lanier, the futurist, author, VR pioneer, and visual effects artist, on the project to give the film a new look and show what they believe AI can really do.

AI production studio Asteria revealed its first live-action feature, titled “Uncanny Valley,” which will also mark the feature directorial debut of studio co-founder Natasha Lyonne and will be made by combining AI tools with “traditional” filmmaking techniques. Asteria describes itself as an “artist-led, ethical AI film and animation studio.”
Lyonne and Brit Marling – co-creator and co-showrunner with Zal Batmanglij on “The Oa” and “A Murder at the End of the World” – co-wrote the screenplay and will co-star. Set in a parallel present, “Uncanny Valley” follows Mila, a teenage girl who begins to lose her grip on reality as a globally popular augmented reality video game starts glitching feverishly with increasingly dangerous real-world consequences.

You are not a gadget — but you might be immersed in an artificial intelligence-generated film.
In one of the more unusual creative collaborations to come along in a while, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Jaron Lanier — the longtime technology innovator and sometime-skeptic — is teaming with Natasha Lyonne and Brit Marling for a new feature film that will be set in the world of immersive video games and make abundant use of AI.
Uncanny Valley, as the project is called, is backed by Asteria, the new AI-based studio founded by Lyonne and Los Angeles-based filmmaker and entrepreneur Bryn Mooser. Lyonne will direct from a script she wrote with Marling; both will star.
Centered on a teenage girl who becomes unmoored by a hugely popular Ar video game in a parallel present, the movie will blend traditional live-action and game elements. The latter will be created by Lanier as well as Lyonne and Marling.

Jason Isaacs is a widely admired English actor who has been doing standout work on stages and screens big and small for some 35 years. But he has never been more at the center of the cultural conversation than he has been over the past few months, during which seemingly everyone has been devouring, dissecting and discussing the third installment of Mike White’s hit HBO drama series The White Lotus, on which he played Timothy Ratliff, a wealthy businessman who is on vacation with his family in Thailand and privately spiraling as his life begins melting down back in North Carolina.
During an episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast that was recorded just days after the season finale of The White Lotus in front of an audience at the Miami Film Festival — where Isaacs was being recognized with the fest’s Precious Gem Award for “one-of-a-kind artists...

Netflix has a problem. The streaming platform, which once almost completely dominated the market, has been feeling the pressure when it comes to creating original content. Recently, fans were shocked to hear the streaming giant won’t be bringing back some of its most beloved originals, including David Fincher’s Mindhunter. It appears that Netflix won’t think twice when it comes to axing great shows: if it happened to series like The Oa, anyone (except Stranger Things) could be next. That said, the idea of a revival of The Oa isn’t off the table, at least according to Jason Isaacs. It’s been six years since The Oa’s cancellation, and the wound still hurts for many fans who were left dumbfounded by Season 2’s shocking cliffhanger. To make things worse, series creators Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij had intended the show to last five seasons, leaving many...

Spoiler Alert: This post contains details from the Season 3 finale of HBO‘s The White Lotus.
It turns out that drinking a piña colada or smoothie from the fruit of the suicide tree isn’t a great idea, after all.
Jason Isaacs’ Timothy Ratliff had a pretty eventful hour and a half in the Season 3 finale of The White Lotus. When he wasn’t making suicide cocktails or holding his half-dead son by the side of a pool, Ratliff found some sort of redemption or happiness.
Isaacs tells Deadline that his character finally realized that his visit to the monastery allowed him to realize his “love is greater than his fear” and that he doesn’t need to kill his family to protect them from the shady business that he was getting up to. “He has the biggest spiritual journey of anyone, not just in the show, but in anything Mike’s ever written,...

“The White Lotus” Season 3 is finally here. As is always the case with the HBO anthology series, though, it’s returned with a new cast of actors and characters for viewers to follow and either grow to love or revile. “The White Lotus” has also left its Hawaii and Italy hotels behind in favor of a new exotic setting: a wellness retreat in Thailand. Prepare for a lot of awkward social moments, barely hidden resentment, and, of course, some murder.
Here are all the characters you need to know in “The White Lotus” Season 3 as well as who play them.

The platform, known for reviving abandoned fan-favorites, took up the sword this time for Manifest, a supernatural thriller that was left to fade into oblivion by NBC in 2021.
Manifest: From Cancellation to Resurrection
Much like its legendary intervention with Lucifer in 2018, Netflix stepped in at the perfect moment, breathing life back into a show that had been left on an agonizing cliffhanger.
The story, centered around a group of passengers who boarded a flight from Jamaica to New York only to land five years later, seemingly untouched by time, had captivated audiences. The eerie visions and unexplained phenomena they experience after their return only deepened the enigma, making NBC’s abrupt cancellation a bitter pill to swallow for fans.

A whimsy, southern gentleman turning into a drug-addicted maniac stealing his wife's lorazepam is one of the many joys while watching Season 3 of The White Lotus. Jason Isaacs' descent into madness is a funny, scathing satire on privilege, and Mike White's latest installment of the Max series is really kicking into high gear halfway through its season. Starring alongside the likes of Carrie Coon, Parker Posey, Michelle Monaghan, and Walton Goggins, Isaacs is one of the most colorful and comic characters, but it's far from his typical on-screen persona. Known for playing sinister villains with ease, his most diabolical and evil remains that of Hunter Aloysius "Hap" Percy in Netflix's The Oa.

Jason Isaacs is best known for giving life to Lucius Malfoy in theHarry Potterfilm franchise, and has said something that will probably make you shed a few tears if you're a fan of the wizarding world. In the same spirit as his character in the movies, Isaacs is not exactly joyful when he reminisces about playing the character and says that the movies "weren’t that much fun to make."
Isaacs was featured on the BBC's talk show The One Show, where he spoke about his career. Having appeared films like The Patriot and TV shows like The Oa and, most recently, The White Lotus, he played the antagonist Lucius Malfoy in six of the eight Harry Potter movies. Lucius is the father of Draco Malfoy, Harry's enemy throughout his run at Hogwarts. Although Isaacs wasn't typecast for his role in the Harry Potter universe, it's undeniable that Malfoy...

Despite being a huge franchise in the gaming world, this series never shed some light on the silver screens, but that might become a reality in the near future.

It's been a long two years for fans of the hit Netflix series Alice in Borderland. Ever since the Joker card appeared in the final episode of Season 2, we've been waiting patiently for what comes next. Thankfully, that wait is almost over, as the streamer has finally revealed when Season 3 of Alice in Borderland will make its long-awaited debut, and to coincide with the news, they've also released some new images and a brand-new video showcasing all the action that's to come.
Per What's on Netflix, Alice in Borderland Season 3 will premiere in September 2025, and while that's still seven months away, it at least gives fans something to look forward to. Based on the manga by Haro Aso, Season 1 made its debut in 2020 to rave reviews, with Season 2 hitting the streaming service in 2022. By now, Netflix subscribers should be used to long stretches between seasons, but that still doesn't make the wait any less grueling.

In the world of ice dancing, nothing is off limits. That’s the tone and story that Layne Fargo set to tell with “The Favorites,” her latest novel that has become the talk of social media since its January release.
Per the book’s description, “To the world, they were a scandal. To each other, an obsession. An epic love story set in the sparkling, savage sphere of elite figure skating, starring a woman determined to carve her own path on and off the ice.”
“The Favorites” is told through multiple storylines — both from Katarina Shaw’s point of view as she falls in love with Heath Rocha as a kid and begins her Olympic journey; and that journey told by others via an unauthorized documentary celebrating the tenth anniversary of Shaw and Rocha’s final skate.

Warning: contains spoilers for Green Lantern: Fractured Spectrum #1!
If you are judging Guy Gardner by his looks, then sorry–you are actually missing out on one of DC’s best Green Lanterns. Although Gardner has been part of the DC Universe for decades, mainstream audiences met him in the trailer for James Gunn’s forthcoming Superman film. Fans laughed at his somewhat ridiculous appearance, but Gardner’s actions in Green Lantern: Fractured Spectrum #1 should silence his many haters.
Green Lantern: Fractured Spectrum #1 is written by Jeremy Adams and drawn by V. Ken Marion. The Sorrow Lantern, a newly created aberration of the Emotional Spectrum, has stolen the Book of Oa for unknown reasons. The Green Lanterns despair over the situation, but Guy Gardner swoops in for the win, revealing that, over the course of years, he had been copying the Book of Oa. Gardner even went as far as to do this under Thaaros’ nose.

Amy Schumer is back with a new movie, resuming her Netflix relationship despite their disagreements eight years ago when she wanted more than $11 million for a stand-up special. The trailer for Kinda Pregnant has been out for a week but has just 55 thousand views (and 1.7 thousand likes) as of Jan. 13, 2025. That's compared to the more successful trailers for relatively little-known upcoming Netflix titles, like Don't Die: The Man Who Wants to Live Forever (509 thousand views), Cassandra (138 thousand views), Bandidos Season 2 (208 thousand views), and one of several trailers for Sakamoto Days (3 million views in three days).
Perhaps this has to do with the lengthy history of negativity towards Schumer, for various reasons. She has certainly had a contentious relationship with her audience (who she refuses to be photographed with in most instances), frequently fueled by social media, that great catalyst of catastrophe.

Netflix is not just a great producer of original content. Sure, many of the original series of the streamer are terrific, but are they immortal? Empire put together a list of the best series ever in 2024, but how many of them can you see on your favorite streamer?
To be fair, Empire's list is of top 100 shows ever. We are just focused on the top 20 here. Once you get past that, the ranking is even more arguable.
But if you want to try and see if the site is correct, you could stream several of the shows on your favorite subscription service. That would be Netflix, obviously. So here is what you can binge-watch in the next week.
If you like Empire, you will love these series on NetflixNo. 20 - Band of Brothers (originally on Max)
The one-season series feels more like an adjunct to Saving Private Ryan, and that makes sense.

CBS' new update effectively spoils Jubal's (Jeremy Sisto) fate in FBI after his suspension. Jubal has been an integral part of the FBI's New York Field Office since the procedural's premiere. However, his fate was left up in the air after he overstepped to protect his son from potential misdemeanor charges in "Pledges," leading to speculation about whether Jubal was leaving FBI.
Jubal's dilemma came at the end of the outing episode when the team was investigating the murder of a Hudson University student during a protest related to immigration policy. While on campus, Jubal discovered that Tyler (Caleb Reese Paul) had been arrested for trespassing along with several other protesters. Jubal didn't want Tyler's criminal record to impact his future dream of becoming an FBI agent, so he pressured a cop to let Tyler go. Later, Isobel (Alana de La Graza) suspended Jubal pending an investigation, making it...

Maggie and Oa's partnership in FBI has remained a pillar of the series since it first debuted on CBS in 2018. With the procedural now in its seventh season, their bond only continues to grow with each installment. Season 7, episode 8, "Riptide," serves as FBI's fall finale and features several impactful moments between the duo. Maggie learns why Oa feels indebted to Clay and chooses to remain by her partner's side, despite distrusting his former army buddy.
When speaking with ScreenRant, star Zeeko Zaki was asked if he could see the show switching up its character dynamics in later seasons by exploring a potential romance between Maggie and Oa. While viewers have varying opinions on their relationship, Zaki shares that he would like the partners to remain friends throughout FBI's run. The Apple TV+ sci-fi comedy series Sunny has been canceled after just one season, leaving viewers with a cliffhanger ending and concerns for the future of other streaming sci-fi shows. The ending of Sunny season 1 left several plot points open to exploration in season 2, including a shocking main character betrayal. As Apple TV+ has confirmed that viewers will not get a Sunny season 2, this continues a worrying trend for streaming channels. Sunny might be the latest canceled TV show that ended on a cliffhanger, but it is far from the first, with sci-fi shows often being affected.

Patrick Gibson jumped onto the scene with his recent roles in two Netflix series, The Oa and Shadow and Bone. However, it's his latest role in Paramount+'s Dexter: Original Sin, that's earning Gibson much more of a deserved limelight. The actor is currently nailing his portrayal of a young Dexter, who's just starting at Miami Metro in the prequel series. Dexter is just beginning to figure out how to implement his father's code so that he doesn't kill indiscriminately (and so that he can control his Dark Passenger). But before Gibson sunk his teeth into this killer role (pun intended), he captivated viewers in a gripping British crime drama called Before We Die.

Some shows are canceled way before their time, leaving us with major cliffhangers and questions. The axe can often come for sci-fi and fantasy shows, since they often have bigger budgerts than other kinds of series. We’re looking back at five shows that were canceled way too soon.
In some cases, these shows just needed another few episodes of a movie to wrap things up, or maybe they got their chance to finish things but didn't do in a way that did the rest of the show justice. In some cases, they wrapped things up well, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want more.
2024 saw some major cancellations. However, this list will take us back a few years (or even decades)!

Over the years, we’ve welcomed and then lost a bunch of sci-fi and fantasy shows. Some of them were canceled way too soon, leaving us with a lot of questions. A lot of these deserve to make a comeback in some sort of way.
Sometimes shows actually do come back. Series like Night Court and Dexter are getting revivals (and prequels) while shows like Matlock and Hawaii Five-o are getting or have had reboots happen. It’s rare that the sci-fi and fantasy genres get the same treatment, though, and this is the genre with some of the best storytelling.
Here are five such series that deserve to make a comeback, and one of them is from 2024.
Quantum Leap

Oa is in for some big changes on FBI and actor Zeeko Zaki is hinting at what's coming!
Caution: This article contains Spoilers for FBI Season 7 Episode 8
Throughout Season 7 of FBI, Oa has reconnected with one of his old army buddies, Clay (Guy Lockard). Oa realized Clay was involved with some shady deals and enlisted him as a confidential informant, with Maggie worried Oa was letting his friendship with the man cloud his judgment.
In “Riptide,” the team was tracking who was responsible for a heist of a cargo container of gold that led to the deaths of several officers. Clay seemed to be working with the team but when the heist turned into a shootout, Oa realized Clay was trying to steal the gold for himself.
What happened with Clay in the FBI season 7 midseason finale?
The two fought with Maggie interfering and Oa ended up forced to shoot Clay in self-defense.

If you're looking for a high-concept, mysterious sci-fi show in the vein of "Under the Dome," "From," or "Manifest," Stephen King has a recommendation for you. The master of horror has always loved sharing recommendations for spooky genre offerings on social media, and this week he took to Threads (he left the cesspool formerly known as Twitter in November) to highlight the UK-made series "The Midwich Cuckoos."
"The Midwich Cuckoos (Amazon): Surprised there hasn't been more talk about this," King recently posted on Threads. "It's a brilliant re-imagining of John Wyndham's classic sci-fi/horror novel." The title of one of Wyndam's best-known novels may not sound familiar to you, but the name of its earlier film adaptation might: "The Midwich Cuckoos" became "Village of the Damned" when Wolf Rilla adapted it in 1960. Some viewers tragically lose their favorite shows after only one season. However, the lucky fans of Showtime's eight-season hit Dexter are now enjoying its highly-anticipated prequel, Dexter: Original Sin. The new series comes only a few years after getting its time-jump revival, Dexter: New Blood, and right before its upcoming spin-off, Dexter: Resurrection, which will be released in the summer of 2025.
Creator Clyde Phillips returns as showrunner and writer, alongside its titular star, Michael C. Hall, now an executive producer and voicing the inner-narration of an early adulthood version of the beloved vigilante. The series centers on Dexter Morgan's life after college with the Miami Metro Police Department. Retroactively exploring the Bay Harbor Butcher's inception, audiences will get a closer look at how he evolved from paid forensics intern to serial killer, mastering his craft, covering established kills, and encountering some of the characters from the original series for the first time.

The following contains major spoilers from FBI Season 7, Episode 8, "Riptide," which debuted Tuesday, Dec. 17 on CBS.
FBI Season 7, Episode 8, "Riptide" has all the hallmarks of a midseason finale. It offers up plenty of action sequences, has an emotional subplot for one of the main characters, and concludes on a note meant to shock the audience. But the most interesting part of the hour is actually its casting choices, because the episode brings back someone from perhaps the most underrated TV crime drama ever.
"Riptide" starts out focusing on an international robbery crew, but pivots away from that into a story about police corruption. It has enough plot twists and turns to keep the audience on the edge of their seats and the acting is solid throughout. There are some aspects that the audience will have cause to debate and disagree with, but ultimately it pauses the Dick Wolf drama on a high note.

“Dexter: Original Sin” brings fans back to the serial killer they all know and (perhaps worth examining) love, but he’s wearing a different face this time around.
No, not literally. Dexter Morgan isn’t that kind of psychopath. He just has urges to kill people, and in the prequel series now streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime (premiering on-air on Showtime this Sunday), we see how he learns to deal with those urges, and implement the Code that his father creates for him to do it somewhat safely.
There are plenty of characters you’ll recognize in the series, but all new faces, so let’s run them down, shall we?
Paramount Dexter Morgan (Patrick Gibson)
Since “Dexter: Original Sin” centers on Dexter Morgan as a teen, Patrick Gibson plays the serial killer this time around. You’ll recognize him from Netflix’s “The Oa” or maybe “Shadow and Bone.

Dexter Morgan is back — and in more ways than one, thanks to “Dexter: Original Sin.”
The prequel series, now streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime, not only brings back Michael C. Hall’s Dexter — at least, in voiceover form — but it also introduces fans to Dexter as a teenager (played by “The Oa” and “Shadow and Bone” star Patrick Gibson), when he’s just learning how and who to kill.
Here’s everything you need to know about the new series and when you can expect new “Original Sin” episodes.
When does the show premiere?
“Dexter: Original Sin” premieres on streaming on Friday, Dec. 13. If you do not have the required subscription package though, you won’t be able to watch it until it hits cable on Sunday, Dec. 15.

The Dexter prequel series Dexter: Original Sin features a slate of new actors playing familiar characters from the original series. Developed by New Blood creator Clyde Phillips, the prequel series chronicles a post-college Dexter as he embraces his "dark passenger" through the guidance and teachings of his adopted father, Harry. Dexter implements Harry's code to satisfy his violent urges while making sure never to get caught. The original Dexter featured a variety of flashbacks of Dexter's upbringing with Harry and the formation of the code, which the prequel expands on.

Ever wonder what led up to Dexter Morgan’s first kill? You’re about to find out.
In Dexter: Original Sin, a prequel set 15 years before the original series, Irish actor Patrick Gibson (The Oa, Shadow and Bone) steps into the titular character’s shoes as he’s starting a post-grad internship at (where else?) Miami Metro Pd. Not only do we get to watch a young Dex channel his bloodthirsty urges and inner darkness, but the future Bay Harbor Butcher’s first blood drives much of the action and drama in the show’s early episodes. "In the beginning, there was blood." It's time to return to the world of Dexter Morgan, first brought to screen by Michael C. Hall, who lends his voice, yet again, to the killer's inner monologue in the Paramount+ prequel series Dexter: Original Sin. In the series that started it all, Dexter was bound to his adoptive father, Harry Morgan, (played by Christian Slater in Original Sin), by his dependency on Harry's "code," a set of rules that would allow Dexter to channel his deadly urges into what would become a career with the Miami Police Department. Now, fans will see The Oa's Patrick Gibson as young Dexter put those rules to the test for the first time.
